Chew Cheong → Chew Pok Cheong – Newspapers and the Malaysian Cricket Association use the name Chew Pok Cheong and not Chew Cheong (see below). Pok is not a "middle name" in the Western sense and in general it is not correct to drop syllables from Chinese names like this. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 09:51, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
- Comment analysis of newspapers as mentioned in rationale:
- The Borneo Post: 71 hits for "Chew Pok Cheong" [1], 0 for "Chew Cheong" [2]
- Utusan Malaysia: 3 hits for "Chew Pok Cheong" [3], 1 for "Chew Cheong" which is not about him [4]
- The Star (Malaysia): 2 hits for "Chew Pok Cheong" [5]. 21 hits for "Chew Cheong" but none are about him, they are all fragments of other people's names like Chew Cheong Soon and Chew Cheong Huat [6]
- New Sarawak Tribune: 5 hits for "Chew Pok Cheong" [7], 0 for "Chew Cheong" [8]
- Dawn (newspaper): 1 hit for "Chew Pok Cheong" [9], 0 for "Chew Cheong" [10]
- Malaysian Cricket Association: 3 hits for "Chew Pok Cheong" [11], 1 for "Chew Cheong" [12]
- The Straits Times (via National Library of Singapore archives search): 15 hits for "Chew Pok Cheong" [13]; can't find any hits for him among the results for "Chew Cheong" [14]
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
