Title edit

No need to mention it was previously called "REM". Many things happen to a show during its production so I've removed it. It will be relevant to include it if there is a "Conception" or "Development" section in time.

Merger proposal edit

I am making two separate proposals for mergers into this article.

First, I am proposing that the articles Michael Britten, Hannah Britten, Rex Britten, Britten family, and List of Awake cast members be merged.

Second, I am proposing that List of Awake episodes and all the individual episode articles (Pilot (Awake), The Little Guy, Guilty (Awake), Kate Is Enough, Oregon (Awake), That's Not My Penguin, Ricky's Tacos, Nightswimming (Awake), Game Day (Awake), Slack Water, Say Hello to My Little Friend (Awake), Two Birds (Awake), and Turtles All the Way Down (Awake)) all be merged into the main article as well.

The need for both these mergers is obvious. The show ran for less than three months, had terrible ratings, and has been completely ignored by the culture at large. I've already tried to bring the main article itself down to a reasonable state; having 19 auxiliary articles in addition to the main one is absurd.

I feel the character articles are an obvious enough merge. Anything "important" in them can be said in the main article itself; none of these characters merit having their own article. None of them have had any cultural impact at all. I mean my god, if Norma Desmond redirects to Sunset Boulevard, what justification is there to have articles on all THREE characters from this forgotten one-season wonder AND a SEPARATE article on their fictional family (which has nothing to add that isn't already in those articles or the main one), and on top of all that a "list of cast members" that has essentially no content whatsoever?

The list of episodes, and individual episode articles, is different from the cast/character pages, but I've listed it for essentially the same reason: it is totally unnecessary and there is nothing in them, or the context surrounding the show, justifying having it. Plenty of shows that lasted longer and made a bigger cultural impact have a simple episode list within the main article itself; it's completely excessive for this show that ran half a season to have a breakout article and separate articles on every single episode.

Thank you for your consideration. It's time to get rid of this nonsense.

  • Strong oppose and speedy close. No need to have merge tags sitting on all these articles for a long time. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:39, 9 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • First of all, I suggest toning it down a bit; you come off a bit angry. Calling it "nonsense" is an insult to the editor that did all this work several years ago when this series aired. Moving on... I agree that all the various character articles could be merged into the main article, since the Characters section is not that large; do you plan on doing the work for that? As for the episode articles, I would say no to most of them, as several of them are GA-level, including two FA-level articles, are well-written and have several citations to support notability. Game Day (Awake) could easily be redirected due to lack of content and Ricky's Tacos too, which has content but is weirdly lacking citations. I also would support a merge of List of Awake episodes, as anything in the lede would be mentioned in the main article and the episode list is small enough for it to exist in the main article. @Literally Satan: It's almost been two weeks, do you still want to move forward with this in any way? If not, then the tags should be removed from all the articles so they're not sitting there forever. Thanks. Drovethrughosts (talk) 12:46, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I want to move forward on this. What is the process for that? -Literally Satan (talk) 18:25, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Well, did you read my original comment? What are your thoughts on that? I am in agreement with the merging of the various character-related articles, but only if the worthwhile content that are in those articles are actually merged into the main article. Since you are the one advocating for this mass-merge, do you plan on doing that? I also agree with the merge of List of Awake episodes (see my original post for my reasons). For the episode articles, that's a hard no; 7 of them are classified as WP:GA and two of them are WP:FA. There are only two problematic episode articles that could be merged (which I mentioned above). Drovethrughosts (talk) 20:47, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what the rules around merging are. I can certainly take it on, but I don't want to get yelled at or blocked or whatever. As far as the episode articles, I don't see how the quality of the writing in any given article changes the fact that the episodes themselves aren't notable. I could (theoretically) write the most beautiful piece of writing the world has ever seen about what I had for lunch last Tuesday, but that wouldn't change the fact that my lunch isn't a worthwhile topic for a separate article, and said article would rightfully be deleted. And I definitely disagree with the assertion that the citations in those articles support notability; as far as I can see they all (except for some in the pilot episode) link to websites that just review every single episode of whatever TV show they've chosen to cover. None of the episodes has ever appeared in (for example) a TV Guide retrospective about "the best TV episodes of the past decade" or whatever; there's nothing in the citations to show that any of these episodes has made a real, lasting cultural impact beyond the life of the show itself. All they show is that the episodes aired and some people talked about them in the week following the broadcast. The same is true of virtually any TV show aired in the past 15 years, most of which (including ones that lasted longer and had more of an impact than Awake) don't have—or deserve—separate breakout articles for the individual episodes. Nothing in any article makes a case why this series should be the exception. -Literally Satan (talk) 08:39, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I would have liked to have thought you would know given you suggested that over a dozen articles should be merged... but, essentially you would be taking any content that you think is notable enough from the character articles and inserting them into the main article. For example, the Casting section in the main article is only two paragraphs; arguably, some of the info from the characters articles could probably be moved there. But again, you'd have to be the one to do the work here, as you're advocating for the merges. I would be happy to merge List of Awake episodes though, as that is mainly just moving the episode list. Your comparison about your lunch isn't a good one, since obviously no reliable third-party sources (to support notability) would be commenting about your lunch, right? The fact is, you're going to have a hard time convincing people that GA- and FA-level articles deserve to be merged. You can always leave comments at the talk page for WP:TV for more opinions, because I don't think anyone else is going to chime in otherwise. Drovethrughosts (talk) 20:44, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Literally Satan: It's now been almost a month since my last comment and nothing has been done nor have you replied. So I'm going to give this one last go and then I'll be removing the tags in 24 hours. If you wish to still pursue this, you can try WP:AFD but I don't think anyone's going to support to merge/redirect of several GA- and FA-level articles. Thank you. palette edit

To distinguish the two realities for the viewer, Michael wears a red wristband in the first reality and a green one in the second.

Also, iirc, the two worlds are presented to the viewer with contrasting color palettes. Is that the word I want? Is there a better way to say this? Do we have an article on the use of palette in cinema? —Tamfang (talk) 16:43, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I would say "palette" is the correct word for this usage. You could also use "color scheme", but I think palette sounds better. Drovethrughosts (talk) 19:40, 24 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Merging proposal from List of Awake episodes into Awake (TV series) edit

I am proposing to merge List of Awake episodes into Awake (TV series). There is a long-standing general consensus on MOS:TV and WP:TV that one season with 13 episodes is not enough to have a separate List of episodes article. Based on MOS:TVSPLIT and Wikipedia:Article splitting (television), WP:SPLIT, WP:SUMMARY, WP:SPINOUT, WP:LENGTH still apply. — YoungForever(talk) 03:16, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Support, I guess. Why was it decided to make this a separate article in the first place, especially after just four episodes? And why make it a featured article at all? This merger proposal makes this separate list of episodes page questionable. I'm not sure if a Featured List should be merged into a Good Article at this point, but I'm leaning towards Support. How about after this merger takes place, we get the main Awake (TV series) article promoted to Featured Article status next, huh? Jim856796 (talkcontribs) 01:56, 26 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
