Irish translation of her name edit

The correct Irish translation of her surname is Ní Chorra (the feminine version of the surname) as opposed to Ó Corra (the male version of the surname).

A Little Respect Please edit

AJC has worked her butt off throughout her career and deserves better than the US college boy treatment continually longing for an HFH foldout with her nipples brushed by Christie's editors. If you are going to expound for a mile and a half about her supposed ambivalent attitude towards doing the 'AMERICAN THING' like every 'Kristi san Misti' before her THEN BACK IT UP - use citations. More Sources edit

Can we please have more sources to verify the information we add. Much appreciated. =) σмgнgσмg 12:06, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

GA review edit

  • three siblings, Caroline, Sharon and Jim. As a band, she and her 3 siblings are - repetition of three siblings (also either use 3 or three)
  • They are also - who is "they" you were referring to Corr - remove the redundant "also"
  • link tin whistle upon first mention in the text
  • You have reference in the middle of sentences which break up the prose, why not put them at the end of sentences for readability
  • Caroline and Jim play keyboards - play -> played, past tense
  • Moreover, - what's the use of this term at the start of the sentence?
  • Delink solo years, 1990 -> 1990
  • n 1990, she and her siblings formed a quartet, called The Corrs.[20] Andrea had joined the band directly from school. - does not flow well, merge the two together
  • The album sold well in Ireland and in Australia, Japan, and Spain. - is not well written and does not go well with the other sentences
  • lukewarm responses -> lukewarm reviews
  • The album was initially met with lukewarm responses but when they released a new version, it topped the charts in many countries -> re-write sentence
  • This track was also featured on Th
  • Home is regarded as a traditional Irish album; the band covered many traditional Irish songs [42] taken from their mother's songbook[43]to commemorate their 15 years as a band.[44] - references at the end of the sentence please
  • Andrea launched a solo career. She released her first solo album - you say she launched a solo career, no need to again mention a solo album
  • Are you going to refer to her as Corr or Andrea? it changes throughout the article and needs to be consistent
  • Corr formally entered the film industry in
  • They are also ambassadors
  • Queen Elizabeth II.[60]The Corrs have been keen - space after reference
  • n recognition for their charity performances, the Corrs were made Honorary Members of the Order of the British Empire in 2005 by Queen Elizabeth II. - you DO realize this sentence appears twice in the same paragraph?
  • All references need a publisher, retrieve date, date and author if applicable like reference 23
  • A lot of the information in The Corrs section relates to the band, not Andreas, try trim it down.
Once these are taken care off I'm going to have to run through the article again as there are quite a bit of awkward sentences. M3tal H3ad (talk) 04:27, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
As you are on holiday i am removing the GA tags, get back to me when you return. M3tal H3ad (talk) 03:27, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Remove weasel words like "Mistress sings the memorable", "a launching pad for The Corrs' career ", have been keen philanthropists - keen", "Unlike their previous albums, In Blue broke away from folk rock to become pop music" - who said this?, remove links to solo years, make the spelling of English words consistent with either American or British spelling, depending upon the subject of the article. Examples include: honor (A) (British: honour), honour (B) (American: honor), meter (A) (British: metre), travelled (B) (American: traveled). M3tal H3ad (talk) 04:40, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think I've addressed these problems. Please take a look and suggest further re-improvements. By the way, do I have to re-nominate this article for the GA review? σмgнgσмg 05:11, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
The Corrs section is written like it would on The Corrs page. Only keep relevant information relating to Andrea, and no you don't. M3tal H3ad (talk) 07:32, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry about the delay, but the Corrs' section's information relates to Andrea Corr. I just reworded it and rewrote some sections. Have a look. σмgнgσмg 01:55, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Religion edit

Andrea Corr is definetely a Roman Catholic. Look at these quotations. "Andrea wrote the lyrics to a song called Humdrum which featured on the last album, about the way people sometimes take each other for granted in marriages. “I would like to marry somebody with the knowledge that if he’s not treating me right, or he’s taking me for granted, I’ll leave – I don’t want to take somebody else for granted, either,” the singer says, adding: “I know that’s probably controversial on a Catholic level.” She likes the ‘steadiness’ of marriage. “I would like to say ‘that’s my husband’ or I’d like to have a next of kin, if something happens.”"Mistico (talk) 17:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Aside from the fact that nothing in that proves she's a Roman Catholic (there are different meanings of the word 'Catholic' in any case), the category is specifically for "Members of the Roman Catholic Church, either past or present for whom their membership was or is a defining characteristic or related to their notability". So - priests, nuns, saints, martyrs, etc. Not pop singers. Except maybe Dana. BastunBaStun not BaTsun 17:25, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, her religion has to be notable and relevant to the article. σмgнgσмg 23:51, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also musicians, writers, politicians, scientists, etc. In what world do you live ? Look at other categories related with religion.85.244.55.239 (talk) 19:09, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

That makes no sense... musicians, writers, politicians, scientists, etc., who achieve notability becuase of their music, writing, political activity and contributions to science get categorised appropriately. Should we also add Andrea Corr to 'white people', 'people with black hair' and 'people with siblings' categories - no, because she's not notable for any of those things. BastunBaStun not BaTsun 22:04, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

According to WP:EGRS, religious categories should not be added to articles unless the individual clearly identifies as such, it is related to their notability, and there are reliable sources to verify the information. All this is applied to Andrea Corr. She is definetely a Roman Catholic, so she belongs to the category.213.13.243.65 (talk) 17:51, 2 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Where has she clearly identified as such? Certainly not in the quote above. She is notable for her music - not her religion (if she has one). No reliable sources are cited. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 22:58, 21 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Flute piece on Titanic song edit

The article states that Andrea wrote and played the flute piece for Celine Dion's song "My Heart will go on", but I am unable to find a reference for it. Could someone please provide a citation for this? Thanks! Achitnis (talk) 19:14, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the reference. The Titanic piece was performed by Tony Hinnigan, and composed by James Horner Ref http://andybrouwer.co.uk/tonyhinnigan.html. The confusion arises from the fact that Andrea has performed this song with Celine Dion on stage (lots of YouTube videos available). Achitnis (talk) 04:31, 4 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Roman Catholic Category edit

There is a user who does have a special obsession to delete Andrea Corr and other Irish musicians from that category. It does not make any sense at all. It is according to the Wikipedia policies. According to WP:EGRS, "Categories regarding religious beliefs or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their notable activities or public life, according to reliable published sources." It means that the individual clearly identifies as such. There are plenty of notable musicians in the Brazilian, Spanish, Argentine, Italian, you name it, Roman Catholic categories. So it doesn't make sense to exclude Andrea Corr, if it is according to Wikipedia policies, or you would have to delete a large amount of people from these categories.81.193.220.131 (talk) 23:46, 20 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

You misunderstand the WP policies. The article does not mention the words "Catholic" or "Roman Catholic" once, so there's nothing to show she has "publicly self-identified with the belief". Even if she had, she would still need to derive her notability from her religion - she doesn't, she derives it from her music. Please actually read Category:Irish Roman Catholics - it's for priests, nuns, members of religios orders, martyrs - not for "famous people who happen to be Catholic" or "Irish people who happen to be Catholic" - otherwise 90% of Irish biographical WP entries would have to be included, which would be ridiculous. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 22:56, 21 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is your opinion. It is not for many others Wikipedia editors who have been adding Roman Catholic people to others nationalities categories. Strangely enough you seem not to have a problem with that. I think we should do a vote to decide if the Irish Roman Catholics category should fit other people too.81.193.24.62 (talk) 00:17, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
