Mauritania (/ˌmɒrɪˈtniə, ˌmɔːrɪ-/ (About this soundlisten); Arabic: موريتانيا‎, Mūrītānyā, French: Mauritanie), officially the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is a country in Northwest Africa.
