RfA Q&A

Thanks for the answer, which makes sense as I also appreciate alliteration.

I'm still working on the poem and it occured to me to also ask ChatGPT, which is good at this sort of synthesis. FYI, it replied:

What does Wallace Stevens mean by "fire-fangled feathers" in his poem "Of Mere Being"?

In Wallace Stevens' poem "Of Mere Being," the phrase "fire-fangled feathers" is a vivid image that serves to convey a sense of heightened experience and intense vitality. The poem explores themes of existence, perception, and the transformative power of imagination.

The line in question appears in the final stanza of the poem:

"The palm at the end of the mind,
Beyond the last thought, rises
In the bronze decor,
A gold-feathered bird
Sings in the palm, without human meaning,
Without human feeling, a foreign song.

You know then that it is not the reason
That makes us happy or unhappy.
The bird sings. Its feathers shine."

The phrase "fire-fangled feathers" suggests feathers that are illuminated or adorned with fire, symbolizing a kind of extraordinary brilliance or radiance. The image evokes a sense of something ethereal and otherworldly, transcending the ordinary. It implies a transformation from the mundane to the extraordinary, where the feathers themselves are imbued with the transformative power of fire.

Overall, the phrase "fire-fangled feathers" contributes to the poem's exploration of the realm beyond rational thought, where the ordinary boundaries of existence are transcended, and a deeper, more profound reality is encountered. It captures the ineffable quality of that experience, emphasizing its intense and vivid nature.

Our own article about Wallace Stevens is quite good and I was especially amused that he wrangled with Frost and literally brawled with Hemingway. How very like Wikipedia where our discussions so often turn into fights...

Andrew🐉(talk) 07:27, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Andrew, I wonder if "brawling with Hemingway" is synonymous with "spent more than ten minutes in his company"? There are many critical takes on the poem, and JSTOR tends to cover most of the good literature and poetry journals. If you're signed in to The Wikipedia Library, this link will get you at some of them. The poem is often treated as Stevens' last one, though it's unclear, so it gets a lot of critical and biographical attention. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:25, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've seen this movie before, and experience has shown that there is no correlation between how much support you get at RfA, and how good you actually are in an administrator. Indeed, I've found those passing with 80-85% support seem to be better administrators as they are the ones prepared to make difficult decisions that will get blowback. So hang in there. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:06, 11 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

The ones who get 86 or 87%, though, they're the worst. --JBL (talk) 23:14, 12 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Having seen you around here and there, I know you'll do a great job as an admin and will continue to be a credit to the project. RFA debrief

I am grateful to all the participants in my RfA. Even the oppose rationales that I disagree with have given me plenty to consider, and it's helpful to have a smudged-barometer reading on the viewpoints of a sizable minority of the community. My nominators and some thoughtful and generous emailers and Discord-DMers provided some much-needed support in a nerve-wracking time; I assume the best way to pay them back is to demonstrate that their faith in me was deserved. If there's something else I can do, I hope they'll let me know.

Involved

By far the most interesting and prolific concern raised about my candidacy is my understanding of INVOLVED. I hope those holding that concern will be comforted to know how seriously I take it. I hope also to see some further community conversation, and I have some early thoughts on that which I'll share below. I want to make it clear that there are some among my opposers on these grounds—one example being RoySmith—who could tell me that I've crossed the line and I'd strongly consider a voluntary desysop.

The main discussion I'm aware of that focused on whether INVOLVED should be evaluated at the whole contentious topic (CT) level is this 2021 unblock request. There was some reasoned pushback against the idea that the blocking admin was involved in the entire "gender-related disputes" CT area, and the unblock appeal was declined. After that discussion, I started a village pump thread to discuss the issue, but it didn't attract much attention.

My best read on the status quo is that most current administrators do not appear to hold such a broad understanding of the policy, meaning that if involvement is to be construed this way, it would be preferable to have it become explicit in policy. I would be likely to oppose such a change, but I haven't yet seen the strong arguments for it that are sure to develop.

Civility

A quick note on the other major reason for opposition, or caution in the level of support: civility. I think Lourdes' points about the need for a cultural shift in tolerance of civility are well-made. You're likely to see me push back against incivility more often.

Toxicity

RFA is frequently described as a toxic place. I feel very fortunate not to have felt that during my run. It was still a tense time for me and my family, all of whom expressed as much relief (often bundled with profanity) as congratulations when it was over. I counsel all who are considering RFA to pick a light week (as I did) and to avoid falling ill during that week (as I did, mildly). Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:20, 26 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I counsel all who are considering RFA to pick a light week (as I did) and to avoid falling ill during that week (as I did, mildly). Imagine that, me taking a week-long vacation from work solely to go run an RFA. That seems less like a vacation and more like some other type of ordeal-prompted compulsory absence. I enjoyed reading your debriefing. Best of luck with your new responsibilities! Cheers, WaltClipper -(talk) 13:25, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks WaltClipper! (I resisted the urge to call you "WC") Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 13:30, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I was taken aback by how quickly the RfA went from "Huh, FFF has a different understanding of INVOLVED than some of us," to concerns that you were going to go rogue the minute the admin buttons were installed. Joyous! Noise! 14:11, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

question from ZomRobWiki

im a new user from MicroWiki and im not sure if the rules are the same so i want to ask a question; are we freely allowed to make pages like Daeng Koro [id]? because i want to make an english version of Daeng Koro's page. ZomRobWiki (talk) 00:36, 6 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi ZomRobWiki, and welcome to English Wikipedia! I am not knowledgeable about the rules of MicroWiki, but I would assume that they differ from the policies here. You are technically not allowed to create new pages in article-space quite yet. Once you're autoconfirmed, which will happen when you've made 10 total edits, you'll be able to do so. If you'd like to get started on a Koro article sooner than that, you can start it in draftspace at Draft:Daeng Koro. We have notability policies governing what should be a standalone article, and the most applicable one for Koro would probably be WP:NBIO. At a glance, I think it's likely he'll qualify. If you're translating from the Indonesian page, I recommend reading Help:Translation, especially the parts about crediting the source article. Let me know if you have any follow-up questions. Are templates like disambiguations editable? --ShesGucci (talk) 00:51, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi ShesGucci. You may be asking about editing the templates themselves: many are editable (though it can take some technical skill or experience) and some require other user rights to change. When you see a template used in an article, it can usually be tweaked, added, or removed by any editor. This includes many of the disambiguation/navigation templates like Template:About or Template:Redirect. Can you tell me more about what you're hoping to do? Hi, I need to update the logo for the company I work for. I don't see an option to upload it, it's in SVG file format.

Can you please guide me? --Manjeetcares (talk) 13:04, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Manjeetcares. It looks like you already found Wikipedia:Files for upload. I would recommend following the advice of the volunteers there. It looks like they need you to upload the file somewhere on the internet and then provide a link. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:33, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Firefangledfeathers I have updated the link so that logo an ben accessed via our cdn folder. can you please check if this is fine?
Thanks, in advance.

Manjeetcares, you should update the link at WP:FFU. Have you checked to make sure it's accessible to users outside of your organization? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 17:10, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Padmeone (15:31, 21 August 2023)

Hello, I am working on publishing a professional page for a Doctor in Aspen Colorado. I finished the sandbox outline and working on citations. Would there be a way to look at this page and give some advice and guidance to finishing out the publication and having the page go live? --Padmeone (talk) 15:31, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Padmeone. I gave it a skim. Give me another half-day or so to look into it a bit more and give you some feedback. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 17:07, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Padmeone (talk) 18:21, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ok, Padmeone. I have some thoughts:

  • Your first hurdle is showing that Fraser is notable, the bar for whether or not a subject needs a Wikipedia article. Notability for people generally comes down to the criteria at WP:BASIC. You'll want to pull together reliable sources that are independent of Fraser that devote significant amount of coverage to him.
  • It's possible you have a conflict of interest when it comes to Fraser. If this is so, or possibly so, I encourage you to read WP:COI and ask questions if there are parts that are unclear to you.
  • If you can show that Fraser is notable and you don't have a COI, or if you appropriately handle your COI, you'll need to rewrite parts of the article to comply with WP:NOTCV. There's some promotional language that needs to be rewritten, and it'll be important that you frame the article around the coverage in those reliable, independent sources and not on Fraser's CV or sites associated with him.

I know that's a lot, and there's more I didn't bring up since those are the major barriers to publishing the article. Please let me know if you have any followup questions. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 02:00, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the suggestions and recommendations. I will work through the bullet points you outlined and reach back out for more help after resolving the current conflicts with the page. Padmeone (talk) 16:49, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Leo Frank Short Description

I understand your desire to avoid a back-and-forth on the talk page of the article, but what is the objective basis for proclaiming that Leo Frank was wrongly convicted when no court has ever overturned the ruling? How is it not simply a matter of opinion? Livius Plinius (talk) 20:08, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think you feel like you have a really unassailable point. If so, the input of other editors who recognize its obvious correctness will surely drown out my opposition. Let's leave some time for that to happen. I think further content discussion here is pointless, where so few involved editors can participate. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 20:11, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I am merely asking you to elaborate your stance. In what sense do you think it is an objective statement or “fact” that Leo Frank was wrongly convicted? Livius Plinius (talk) 20:24, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm pretty sure I understand what you're asking. Please don't feel like you need to restate your request in different ways. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 20:32, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

24 vs 48

You wrote there that you pblocked TA for 24 hours, however the block log says that you actually pblocked them for 48 hours. Not a big deal but for the sake of correctness it should be clarified that the pblock's duration is 48 hours. Ktrimi991 (talk) 21:16, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Block

I did a mistake at Pashalik of Yanina and im not going to ask for an unblock (although you asked me to self-revert and then decided not to wait for my response). After youve defended their version many times with page protections and the "new rule", why didnt you block them as well for reverting [3]? They have made more reverts than I have. Is it wrong to revert only when the version you have been protecting for a month is being removed? Tsepelovitis Alvanitis (talk) 00:38, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi TA. Thanks for acknowledging the mistake. I am strongly considering an unblock, and I'll post a few questions for you at your user talk page. The answer to your question about sanctioning the other user is now at the article talk page. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:44, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you but what is the point of an unblock? I got a mark in my block log which can't be hidden with an unblock, and the other editor who reverted, did not get the same "mark". Youre asking me not to revert there anymore, why dont you ask them as well not to revert anymore? Because they are supporting the version which you protected? Tsepelovitis Alvanitis (talk) 01:41, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi again TA. I certainly won't force an unblock on you. My reasoning for not blocking the other editor is still at the article talk page. I would prefer that no editors revert there anymore, and I'm happy to tell anyone who asks. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:45, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
If you dont want more reverts there as you claim: if I revert there again and the other party reverts me again. Will you block us both or will you block me only again? I dont want to be unkind, but do you have any off- wiki connection with the other party? Tsepelovitis Alvanitis (talk) 02:08, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't feel you're being unkind, and thanks for the polite inquiry. No, I don't have any off-wiki connection to any of the editors involved in this dispute. If you revert again after your partial block expires, yes I will block you again. Do you anticipate doing so, or is this just hypothetical? Question from Archivistwannabe (16:10, 25 August 2023)

Hello! I just wrote an article in my sandbox. It's not 100% but it's nearing completion. At what point will I be allowed to write and publish articles for the general public to see? Is there an approval process? Please let me know! -Archivistwannabe --Archivistwannabe (talk) 16:10, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi there Archivistwannabe, and welcome to Wikipedia. Once you reach autoconfirmed status, you'll be able to directly publish articles. This happens after (A) your account has been registered for at least four days and (B) you've made at least 10 edits. Looks you have a bit more editing to do and three more days to wait. You can also move your sandbox into draft-space, where other editors can review it and decide if it should be published. You can learn more about this at Wikipedia:Articles for Creation. I glanced at your sandbox article, and I'd urge you not to publish it, even when you're technically capable of doing so. We very much value having info in Wikipedia by supported by citations to reliable sources, and your article is so far uncited. It's hard to write a whole article while also learning the ropes around here. Help:Your first article has some good info about this. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:30, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I find the learning process easier when I have content to "shape" and improve, rather than merely learning tools out of context. Also, perhaps a friendlier way to put your request of urging me not to publish might be to recommend building a list of citations first, which was my plan all along. All I did was inquire about the process, so you glancing at my sandbox seems a bit premature. Again, thanks for the quick response. 2600:1001:B025:D6D3:D69:B797:3E73:84F4 (talk) 16:36, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
A friendly urge! Happy to hear you're working on the citations. You can see more about how to format them at WP:CITATIONS. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:50, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Help request with dealing with incivility

I would like to request help in dealing with a user acting incivily. About a month ago I added a topic on the Lesbian talk page talking about a possible change to the definition from "homosexual woman" to "woman with same sex attraction" for various reason among which was the fact that aromantic and asexual people also use the term to refer to themselves too. The conversation initially started off fine but as it prgressed I started to get some bad feeling ending in the fact that I was out of the blue accused of "erasing homosexuality" and being a "revisionist" despite tha fact that I'm also lesbian and not rewriting history or facts to suit my agenda.

I'm seeking action only right now since I was hoping that other people would comment on the topic but seeing as how a month has passed with no conversation I know that it's going to be ignored. I considered going to the content dispute page and might later for the suggested change to be actually considered, but right now I simply want to deal with user's behaviour so that they don't do it in the future. Hope to hear back from you soon. EldritchEmpress (talk) 14:46, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi EldritchEmpress. I have Lesbian on my watchlist, so I'm vaguely familiar with that discussion, though I haven't read it all the way through. I don't think there's anything I can do with my admin hat on. I encourage you to follow the steps of WP:CONDUCTDISPUTE, which starts with a polite comment at the other user's talk page. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:49, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I understand that I probably should, but I just don't feel comfortable doing that considering they were willing to bring out such accusations purely out of disagreement on a single idea when I wasn't even being hostile or annoying to them. EldritchEmpress (talk) 16:10, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
EldritchEmpress, I can empathize with not wanting to engage further. If you think you might be up for it after waiting a little while, I do think it would be worth it to start with some user talk page outreach. I have seen editors skip that step and go right to WP:ANI and WP:AE, but I wouldn't recommend it. Other than listen and commiserate, there's nothing I can do here, but I'm happy to do those two. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:43, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Alright thank you, I'll try in maybe like 2-3 days EldritchEmpress (talk) 07:44, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

second question from zomrobwiki

sorry to disturb, but whenever im just making the translation for daeng koro, it keeps showing that around 85-95% of the text is translated from machine, even if i rarely used it on the article. im pretty confused by this, so can you explain this to me? thanks a bunch. regards, Zombie Robby the Wikiman (talk) 13:30, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi again @Zombie Robby the Wikiman. I'm not sure why that would be happening. Because you don't have the content you're translating on a wiki page, I can't see what's going on. If it's just content copied from another language's WIkipedia (and not from some other copyrighted source) and then at least partially translated, you could paste it into a subpage like User:ZomRobWiki/Koro as long as you include an edit summary that says something like "this edit includes content copied from [link to the exact article]". Question from Khunou S on Wikipedia:Contact us (22:15, 29 August 2023)

Hi! I have a question on page translation. With thatal being said, i wanted to translate English articles to my local language i.e. Khiamniungan Naga (kix) but unfortunately I cannot. I am not sure how to add languages as well. Therefore, in this regard would you like to help me out so that i can translate. Thanking you in anticipation. --Khunou S (talk) 22:15, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Khunou S. This is not something I have experience with, but I still hope I can be helpful. There's a guideline for you at Wikipedia:Translate us. Am I right in thinking that there is not currently a Wikipedia in the Khiamniungan language? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:35, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes. You are right Sir. Would you help me create because i am not in a position to do it. You are definitely empowered to do this. I really want to translate important English articles to my language.
Please consider my request. Thankyou Khunou S (talk) 00:44, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi again Khunou S. As far as I'm aware, the place to discuss starting a new Wikipedia project is at m:Requests for new languages. Any new proposal needs to comply with the m:Language proposal policy. I do not have any more power over this than you do, since it's not something that English Wikipedia admins have any control over. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions, and I'll do my best to at least point you in the right direction. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:48, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thankyou so much for being helpful. Actually, I did try twice to create but in the end it says I am not in a position to do it, if I am not mistaken. It seems Ive to be an admin to create one. Isn't it? May be I am wrong. Khunou S (talk) 00:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
When you see a message that says you are not in a position to do it, can you link the exact URL you are at? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:01, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Semi-protection at Ó Fearghail

Hi, Firefangledfeathers. You said at the RFPP for Ó Fearghail yesterday that you were protecting Ó Fearghail for 1 week from then, but the log says it's only protected until tomorrow (i.e. two days). Is it too late to fix that? The IP has already made an edit request on the talk page to add the disputed content (ignoring the discussion right above it). If they find that semi-protection has expired, they'll start right back on their disruptive edits. Scolaire (talk) 17:44, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Ingridach (09:39, 2 September 2023)

Hello, hope you're well. I'm trying to make a biography page for a musician, and my page keeps being rejected for lack of notability or reliable sources. I have 10 references from different interviews, magazines, charts etc. How many does it take? I also have to mention that the musician has appeared numerous times in printed media in the 90s and I don't know how to prove that - should I attach pictures of the newspapers? Let me know if you have any tips for this, thank you in advance! --Ingridach (talk) 09:39, 2 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ingridach. What you're looking for are at least three high-quality sources. You need them to be
  • independent of Jones himself,
  • reliable,
  • and focused on Jones specifically, for at least a paragraph or two.
It's ok for sources to be offline (like newspapers). You need to provide enough bibliographic detail that someone else can find the source. It's nice if you provide quotes and it's possible other users might ask you to email a picture. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:38, 3 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from Bmishra2 (17:16, 2 September 2023)

Hey!! I am looking to create a new page on my company, it's a startup, just to provide more information about it to the people. I am wondering how do we create a new page? --Bmishra2 (talk) 17:17, 2 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bmishra2. It can be very hard to successfully navigate learning to edit Wikipedia while also trying to create an article about something with which you have a conflict of interest. I posted a welcome message at your talk page that includes some links to relevant policies and guidelines. The first thing you'll run into is that we strongly discourage directly creating an article about a company you're involved with. You can start it in your sandbox or in draft space, and eventually an uninvolved editor can decide if it's ready for publication or not. I encourage you to try your hand at editing some articles where you don't have a conflict of interest; you're likely to learn some skills and norms that will be helpful down the line. Protection of Marlon Brando

No one appreciates your zeal in logging protections under CTOPS as much as I do (probably), but I do think it might interest you to know that Brando died over ten years ago, so not even BRDP, much less BLP, applies to him anymore. You might want to rethink that one (although that does not affect the protection).

I guess we could say he was larger than life  . Daniel Case (talk) 02:56, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Well gosh that's the most terrible news. Are you sure? Fixing now. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:00, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hey User:Firefangledfeathers is the protection supposed to be 99 years or indefinite? You said indefinite in the description area but set it for 99 years. If you meant for it to be indefinite, can you please change it? Thanks. Visualian (talk) 11:48, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
The difference between 99 years and indefinite is going to be someone else's problem. I'll be long dead by then, and anyone wanting unprotection can submit a request without consulting me first. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 12:13, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello there, i was just wondering if it was possible to retrieve my old edit of the austria hungary page. I accidentally exited the tab and was wondering if i could get my work back --Advt123 (talk) 23:44, 10 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Advt123. I'm sorry this is happening to you. If you're editing on a computer, there's a chance that your browsers "Recently closed tabs" option will remember the work you did. Ctrl+Shift+T or Cmd+Shift+T usually work, though you may have to hit it a few times if you've since closed other tabs. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure there are any other options. Wikipedia itself doesn't store unpublished article edits, so we're hoping your browser did. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:44, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from TriosLosDios on Carpenter Gothic (05:56, 14 September 2023)

Hello I have a question about editing a wikipedia article (gallery) ... In neither visual or source editor I am unable to see an option for media to add photo image. Maybe you can explain or help with this progress here. Thanks --TriosLosDios (talk) 05:57, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi TriosLosDios. First, you need the image to be uploaded to either Wikipedia or Commons (instructions here). In source editor, at Carpenter Gothic or any other article, find the <gallery> and </gallery> tags. Between the tags, you want to paste the file name of your uploaded image, something like "File:Example.jpg", optionally followed by a pipe character and a caption, like "File:Example.jpg|An example image". Help:Gallery tag has more info on more complex uses. Let me know if you have any questions! Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 11:10, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello Firefangledfeathers. The instructions that you provided for editing Wikipedia article (gallery) was helpful. After, the content was added to article/gallery the link associated with content is red. Also, the red link reads that there's no page related to the content. My question is what content is required on a factual basis pertaining to creating a page ? Any suggestions will be appreciated. TriosLosDios (talk) 01:25, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, TriosLosDios. Thank you for adding that image. The redlink is to Saint Mary's Episcopal Church (Milton, Florida), and redlinks are not a bad thing. See WP:REDLINK for info on when and why we might keep them around. It would be better to have an article about that church, presuming it's "notable". Notability is an important concept here, where we decide whether or not a given subject deserves a dedicated article. The church might be notable if it passes either the "general notability guideline" or a specific guideline about buildings. If you're interested in creating the article, a good way to start is to look for strong sources that say quite a bit about the church and evaluate them against those guidelines. See also WP:FIRST for info on creating your first article. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:39, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Citation needed? Help needed!

Hey! Thanks for your attention to the parental rights movement article. I'm pinging you because of your citation needed tag. I want to make your suggested changes: my goal is to continuously improve this article because the name is obviously being used more and more, and causing confusion, but I'll admit I'm a green editor here on Wikipedia. Would you mind clarifying what part of the lead you found confusing and (if you don't mind) suggesting how you would go about adding or writing that section of the article, or pointing to what needs expanding? I'm trying to follow the style for other articles that revolve around the far right and LGBTQ+ issues more broadly, but I've run into some limitations. Thanks! MicrobiologyMarcus (talk) 15:44, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi MicrobiologyMarcus. I have a busy stretch of time ahead, so I may not be able to get back to you until 8-10 hours from now. I'll poke at it sooner if possible. I think the article really deserves to exist and I'm glad you made it. I do think you need to review the sources you collected and find which ones support that the movement is "far right". There should be a line in the body that uses that descriptor and cites those sources. If that can't be done, we should remove that part of the lead. I'm breaking my rule on really trying to keep these sorts of discussions at article talk pages, so please respond there if you think there's more to say. Question from The Joyful Sound on Saint Titus (22:39, 15 September 2023)

Greetings. The Wikipedia article reads, "Titus from Ephesus to Corinth, with full commission to remedy the fallout precipitated by Timothy's delivery of 1 Corinthians" and references 1 Cor 16:10, 11. However, 1 Cor 16:10 says, "Now, if Timotheus come...," clearly suggesting, contrary to the article, that Timothy had not yet come and could not have delivered this epistle especially in light of 1 Cor 4:17 and that this being addressed to those already in Corinth. Advise. --The Joyful Sound (talk) 22:39, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi The Joyful Sound. I can't quite wrap my head around the particulars here. I highly recommend posting at Talk:Saint Titus. If no one responds after a while, it might help to ask for input from related Wikiprojects, like WP:WikiProject Christianity or WP:WikiProject Bible. An unambiguous improvement would be to find non-biblical sources that comment on Titus' actions and movements. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:46, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, hope you are well. I have another question - I've been trying to upload at least one picture of my page's subject. However, they keep getting deleted for various reasons. For example, I had a picture of the subject from a very close contact to him and it was agreed to release this image on wikipedia under a free license. But the image got deleted by wikipedia because there were doubts about its origins. Another image was one I took, and was again deleted due to doubts & its small size. I am a bit hopeless seeing that I am not allowed to share even my own images. Do you have any tips for this? Perhaps it is something I am doing wrong? --Ingridach (talk) 14:32, 20 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi again Ingridach. The uploading you've been doing has been at Commons, a related but separate project. I am not so experienced a Commons user. I can tell that your images are much more likely to stay if you can get the rights owner to confirm the release via the Commons:VRT process. You can ask for more help over there at the Commons:Help desk. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 17:44, 20 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from SolTellsAll (12:11, 22 September 2023)

Hi, Am I able to create multiple sandboxes or no. Thanks in Advance, SolTellsAll --SolTellsAll (talk) 12:11, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @SolTellsAll. You can create multiple subpages in your userspace. This means you are free to create User:SolTellsAll/Sandbox, User:SolTellsAll/Sandbox2, User:SolTellsAll/Sandbox3, etc. You can also name them by topic, like User:SolTellsAll/DraftAboutSomething. See Wikipedia:User pages for the policy on what is permissible in your userspace. Generally, you have wide leeway to edit there as you wish, as long as you generally keep it oriented toward encyclopedic activity. New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Firefangledfeathers,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Clarification on evidence threshold for CheckUser

What evidence would I have to present to prompt a CheckUser investigation of a user that I believe may be connected to "Vizorblaze", "Lois Lane", and the IPs? Philomathes2357 (talk) 02:20, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Philomathes2357. I don't have any special admin knowledge on this, so I'm mainly speaking as someone who's filed SPI requests, including CU requests. I'd look for evidence based on shared focus areas, time of edits, any verbal "tells", shared edit summary patterns, etc. There's not much advice out there, but Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/SPI/Guide to filing cases might help a bit. Question from Simpet Slnz UG (06:27, 26 September 2023)

hello I want to create awareness on menstrual hygiene management how do I start --Simpet Slnz UG (talk) 06:27, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Simpet Slnz UG, sorry about the slow reply. Have you already read the existing article on Menstrual hygiene management? At a glance, there's plenty of work to be done there. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 13:04, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wide reaching implications

Hi, it's me again(and no I didn't have the courage what I promissed to do last time). Today I have a different concern though involving three different pages. I made an edit on the page for Japan linking to unitary in the infobox section, however it was reverted and similar edits had been before too. When I asked why I was pointed towards a page about link etiquette which I felt like was a misapplication since it was in refrence to sentences and not infoboxes along with the fact that the template documentation specifically asked to link every label. In response the other editor changed the documentation and said that all the country pages that do it, which afaik is all of them except Japan, are wrong. idk if that was the correct thing to do though considering the fact that they didn't ask anyone else before making the edit.

So what should be done? I feel like there should be some kind of talk between the template and country page editors to decide before such a decicion is made, though idk how to make that happen. EldritchEmpress (talk) 00:08, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi again EldritchEmpress! As a disclaimer, I have a bias here because I think Nikkimaria is amazing. It's not the I would never disagree with her, it's just that I'd want to cross my i's, dot my t's, look both ways, pray to a god or two, etc. Part of the background also is that Japan is a featured article, which has at least two consequences. One, it must follow the style guidelines, including MOS:SOB, per the FA criteria. Two, it's reasonable for editors to steward any ongoing changes per WP:FAOWN. That said, it probably won't hurt to talk it out more at a talk page—either the one you're at or the infobox template talk page. Infobox template documentation frequently has very little consensus backing it. The guidance you referred to was added back in 2012, so it has a not insignificant amount of implicit consensus behind it. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:11, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Cheers :-) I did check and AFAICT it wasn't discussed at the template's talk page before being added, so it's more likely a case of nobody reads the documentation. Nikkimaria (talk) 01:18, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, hello! Doesn't surprise me much. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 01:22, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think it should probably be had on the template page as otherwise it would be cloggin up the talk page of Japan with a mostly unrelated conversation. If they don't mind I'd want to also ask @Nikkimaria to join that conversation since they started it. EldritchEmpress (talk) 06:41, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

The Information quote

The Talk:Molly White (writer) section is gone now but in case you still wanted the quote:

... she said over a Zoom call from her home outside Boston. ... Editing such entries felt important to White, not just because of her leftist politics (she describes herself as skewing socialist), but because of her firm belief that “one of the ways to make society change is through the spread of information,” she said.

Thanks

Thanks for being nice to User:KeroppiKid as you did here. He's new and young and didn't understand about not panicing about vandals. It was his first experience as a victim. We've explained things to him and he's calmed down now. Thanks, fr33kman 18:32, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question from FlameproofLAB (04:36, 8 October 2023)

Hello! I would like to reinstate a Wikipedia bio page that was removed without permission by an unidentified person several years ago. Is there anything special I need to do since there was a page published prior? --FlameproofLAB (talk) 04:36, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi FlameproofLAB. I can look into it. What was the bio page called? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 13:03, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
This was 10 years ago. It was Adriana Sanford - a bio page. FlameproofLAB (talk) 21:39, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, FlameproofLAB. It looks like it was deleted back in 2011 for being a copyright violation, and another version was deleted in 2016 after this "Articles for deletion" discussion. There's no rule against recreating the article, but it would be wise to read the 2016 discussion and try to preempt those concerns. You will not technically be able to create new articles until you are "autoconfirmed", but you can get a headstart by beginning the work at Draft:Adriana Sanford. Question from Aid1969 (16:25, 14 October 2023)

Hi, you seem to be my mentor!

If you've got the time...

Topic: Foreign language citations.

Short: WP:RSUEC

Long -hopefully not TLDR🙂: As I'm new to Wikpedia I've come to ask you this after reading that the top of your wiki wishlist coincides somewhat with mine! I had been editing Lake Chad as an IP and found that a user user:newbamboo had seen fit to delete a third of that article with very little tolerance for opposition. I have no problem with the new edits per se, but that user had also rewitten parts of the article including a number of Chinese citations which link to external Chinese sites written wholly in Chinese. My question, after noticing a similar trend on many other articles in recent years is: Politely: Do you know of any discussions in the Wikipedia community that consider whether WP:RSUEC needs updating to reflect more recent times and ever changing values? Crudely: Is anything being done about the Chinese state slowly rewriting English Wikipedia?

Thanks, congrats with your new admin status and apologies for my probably nebulous question; I am being serious though.Aid1969 (talk) 16:25, 14 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
