Missing summary of NBA television coverage

There is no section in the NBA article about the NBA on television and I can't find a summary article either. There are huge numbers of articles about specific programmes, but what I was hoping to find (and other sports have) is a summary of the main contracts and what they are worth. Could this be added please, either to the NBA article or as a separate article? Merchbow 06:49, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Standardization

Basketball pages in Wikipedia currently have no or little standard. Even infoboxes aren't. Why don't we make this our first goal? Standardization of content a la Football project did? --Howard the Duck 04:28, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm all for it. I think the first thing we should do is make a "to do list" to keep us focused on the projects' tasks that have a glaring need. Perhaps send out a few messages to the participants of the project and try and get a good discussion going on what to add to the to do list for now. Hopefully this will add some stability and organization to this project. Once we get a to do list created, I think we can focus on accomplishing the tasks at hand. Now I think a Basketball MoS is a good idea, and that might be something that we should collaborate on with the NBA project. KOS | talk 12:27, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

NBA team section

I've made 6 tables, to organize the NBA teams in this section: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Basketball#NBA_Teams I feel that will allow the project quick access to any of the NBA teams one might want to work on, not to mention it is more organized and just looks better. :) If anyone has better coding, or a more applicable table instead of the 6 I created please let me know. Anybody want to start doing the 2006-07 NBA season like the FA Premier League and have box scores for the games? Might be a little much since there are so many games nightly in the NBA, but hey, this is Wikipedia. Here's some of the pages for the FA Premier to look at for an example:

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Categorisation by playing positions

As far as I can see, there's no categorisation of players by position: would that be a good idea? More specifically, I note that the Category:United States basketball biography stubs are getting very large, and by position might be a way of splitting them up. Alai 23:49, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

National team templates

I'm planning to create template shortcuts like {{USAf}} or {{USAc}}. Since some "b" sports are taken over by bandy, I'm planning to name them {{USA-b}}. But I'll need help since there are a lot of countries. For example, {{USAf}} has the following code:

I've mentioned this in Howard's talk page, but I have created a generic template {{bk}} that can be used for all FIBA teams. There is no need to create and maintain a collection of single team templates.

For example, instead of {{USA-b}}, you would write {{bk|USA}} to achieve the same result. Also, since "bk" is built on top of the same system as the familiar {{flagicon}} and {{flag}} templates, all of the features of those templates are present. For example, you can add a second argument to create a historical flag variant, if you choose, such as {{bk|MEX|1934}} to render Mexico. You can use a nation's full name instead of three letter country codes if you want. {{bk|LTU}} and {{bk|Lithuania}} both produce Lithuania.

Request Amendments on WikiProject Basketball Userbox

Although this is just an aesthetic matter, I think we should adopt the all- orange colour for the entire Userbox without any white areas. It is a matter of pride to have our colour (very similar to the colour of basket ball) and will certainly be a more attractive logo. Why there is not any {{Infobox Basketball Player}}? In the wikiproject page it appears, but it is empty. I think an infobox for not NBA basketball players should be created, it could be like the NBA one, but without draft. MontanNito 19:44, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

If all you're going to do is take off the draft, then it's pointless to creat a new one. Just use the NBA, and just don't put a draft. The draft stuff is optional on the template. You could just rename the NBA player template to Basketball Player and add an option for league if you really wanted to. --Jaysscholar 01:49, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Numbers in sports

Numbers that appear in the official rules of the game, such as the total number of players per team, number of game partitions (e.g., 9 innings in baseball) are worth mentioning in the number articles.

A record is worth mentioning if it is from a Major League player, or if it appears in the Guinness Book of World Records. Be sure to indicate the year the record was set in order to facilitate removal when a new record is set.

In sports where the number on a player's shirt is not determined by the position he plays, only numbers that have been retired by a Major League team are worth noting. But if a player's number is determined by the position he plays, this probably falls under the rules of the game consideration above.

NASCAR numbers

Car numbers of teams that have won the Daytona 500 or the NEXTEL Cup Series championship are worth noting in the articles on the corresponding numbers.

WikiProject Basketball and WikiProject NBA

What role does this WikiProject fill which can't be done under the guise of the NBA Project? I do not wish to kill this off before it starts Wikifanatic, but could you please let us over at NBA WIkiProject know what you see as being the different roles. Thanks. Harro5 04:53, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Basketball isn't just an American sport. In recent years, it has extended all over the world, particularly in Europe. Thus, a WikiProject whose purpose is to explicitly help NBA-related pages technically (and in this case, in actuality, at least for now) will not edit other basketball-related pages. So this project has a point. But as a member of the NBA Project, I think this project, on the surface, seems to be almost in competition with the NBA Project. I think it would be much more effective (and much less repetitive) to merge these two projects, either by moving the entire NBA Project under the Basketball WikiProject, or expanding the scope of the NBA Project to include all things basketball. I favor the second implemention simply because the NBA WikiProject has more members, but this WikiProject Basketball has a more accurate name. Of course, this argument is effectively nullified by the current outline of this Project's purpose, so I would hope that you would either expand the scope of either Project to cover all aspects Basketball, or merge the Projects. I would remember you that even more NBA teams are signing players from European leagues, so the importance of Europe is growing year after year. And, remember, in all sports, the American way isn't necessairly the best, d'you remember the last Italy-Dream Team match? Spectacular isn't synonimous of good, not necessairly. Inspired by some heated discussions here, I have now created "Areas of Interest" for WikiProject Basketball mainly based on elaborate categories at: dmoz Open Directory Project Basketball section, just to demonstrate how an NBA WikiProject will not be able to cover at all, as it remains fixated on one special league in one special location (United States) with a single additional team in Canada. I also join my voice to Gurulegend in proposing to make NBA a part of the WikiProject Basketball. I would also be willing to stick by a compromise that the Basketball area abstains from all NBA coverage for now so as not to trespass on the eforts of the NBA Project. We have so many areas as is, we may welcome the notion of being spared the huge task of following the NBA teams -- Werldwayd 12:37, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Difference Between The Two Projects

The NBA is for the NBA only; while this one comprises the Euroleague and every basketball league outside the NBA, even the NBA can be included here, too. --Howard the Duck 14:13, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

NBA is the NBA is the NBA. Regardless of the strength of that league, it is admittedly a limited part of the basketball movement. Basketball is something much more universal and not confined by any particular league, however dominant. Here are what NBA and an NBA WikiProject cannot cover at all (and it is not a matter of just the Euroleague!). Matters totally out of the scope of an NBA WikiProject would include subject matter on FIBA, the Olympic Basketball events, Basketball World Championships (that includes U21, U18 etc), National Basketball Teams, continental leagues (Euroleague, African, Asian, Latin American tournaments etc) and regional leagues (Caribbean basketball, pan-Arab championships, WABA, ASEAN), hundreds of country basketball leagues in almost every country. An NBA WikiProject cannot furthermore cover adequately basketball even within the USA. How about the WNBA? How about other professional leagues in the States (ABA, CBA, many others etc), college basketball (NCAA and lower NCAA basketball leagues 1,2 and 3, NAIA, JUCO) and amateur basketball leagues all over the country. Furthermore it is only a universal basketball WikiProject that can tackle for example wheelchair basketball, streetball, water basketball, mini-basketball, recreational basketball, history of basketball, rules of basketball. Need I go on? Coaching techniques, playing techniques, basketball injuries and health issues, travelling teams, church leagues, YMCA Basketball, GLBT basketball, ethnic and religious basketball leagues (e.g. Chinese-American league, Native American leagues, Muslim basketball, Jewish American basketball....). I propose in case there will have to be a merger, that NBA WikiProject joins WikiProject Basketball, or the truly universal WikiProject Basketball can take over all basketball matters and specifically and intentionally exclude for now the narrowly specialized NBA project regarding all matters NBA. This way there will be no overlapping in purposes. We can live with a duopoly - Basketball General and NBA Basketball in two separate WikiProjects -- Werldwayd 09:52, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

I suggest merging these two projects and deleting the NBA project. The NBA project clearly does not to exist. This project already overlaps the NBA project. Also basketball isn't just about NBA, there are college leagues and many international leagues. If like this, there should be many other projects about different leagues such as WikiProject college basketball or WikiProject Euroleague or something. Creating a WikiProject on the NBA is clearly US biased. All the members in the NBA project could be a member of this project after. Brave warrior 00:24, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I think I can. In fact, my first idea was to do exactly that, in order to have only one infobox template for all continental tournaments. But then I preferred to start small and see what you people thought. But I'll try to code it for the remaining championships.

OK, what I did was create individual subpages to the infobox template page to store headers specific for each continental championship (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania), then depending on which value you give to the continent= and year= infobox parameters, it calls that subpage and displays the appropriate header in the infobox. It was actually worse, see FIBA Oceania Championship 2007, the infobox goes into the scores so it's obscured. If the logo can either be made smaller or if some infobox parameters can wrap with the logo, it'll probably solve the problem. --Howard the Duck 00:06, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Well, it seems to me that that is an article-specific problem. That article has less content (prose and sections) than similar ones and it even doesn't have a table of contents (TOC) which usually pushes sections downward leaving more space for the infobox. As an example, I've forced the TOC to appear on that article and the infobox no longer superimposes the scores. If you don't like this, all I can do is decrease the maximum image height. International Leagues

I think it'd be great if we can increase coverage on some international leagues/clubs/players. I've been trying to create some articles for them, but all I'm really capable of doing is creating stubs. The French Wikipedia has some great articles on their basketball clubs that would be good to translate, but I don't read French, myself. I made a stub for the Swiss league yesterday. Someone has been posting the WikiProject banner on the talk pages, however, there is no centralized basketball MOS and templates. I've tried imposing my will >:) on using some templates and they're mostly successful and has been emulated on other pages, such as the recent intercontinental championships articles. Basketball players, coaches, etc. work group

There is now a proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Basketball players for a group which would work specifically on articles relating to biographies of individual players, coaches, and other related individuals. Any parties interested in working with such a group are encouraged to add their names there, so we can see if there is enough interest to start the group in earnest. Thank you. Tony Harris

I've put together an article for the late Tony Lee Harris, but I've run into a problematic source. A press release for a Cyprus team claims to be about Tony Lee Harris, but it's obviously not his picture, and may be Tony Dwayne Harris. Some of the information seems to pertain to Tony Lee, though, and conform with the news reports generally. There's also a third Tony Harris! All are African-Americans, but with distinctly different appearances. Weirdly, the LatinBasket.com site seems to show this third guy's photo for the team that Tony Lee was supposedly signed to. How accurate is LatinBasket? Where do they get their info from (like, could they just have pulled the wrong one from somewhere, or do they get it from the team)? What other sources might there be? What to do about the Cyprus press release? (A Portuguese or even Spanish speaker would be helpful in gleaning from regional media.) Thanks, yes, but I'm past that question. The article doesn't have to have anything more than from current press sources to meet WP:N and WP:V, and without his career it's just less WP:ENC than it could be, so this isn't necessary to pursue. From what I can tell, they have all played for professional teams, but I can't be certain that all those teams are in "fully professional leagues" per WP:BIO. It certainly seems so, but I don't follow international basketball. --Dhartung | Talk 00:35, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Help request: GA backlog

Hello. There has been a large backlog at the Good Article Nominations page for a while. Since most of my editing is in the Sports and Recreation category, that is the area that I am currently focusing on. To try to cut down on the backlog, I'm approaching projects with the request that members from that project review two specific articles over the next week. My request to WikiProject Basketball is to try to find time to review Matt Hardy and Joe Delaney. If these are already reviewed by someone else or you have time for another review (or you'd rather review something else altogether), it would be great if you could help out with another article. Of course, this is purely voluntary. If you could help, though, it would help out a lot and be greatly appreciated. The current article on the Russian Basketball Super League only deals with the Division A, not Division B. Depth Charts

I believe that depth charts are very arbitrary. Players are often substitued in for positions and in different orders contrary to they way they are listedin the depth chart. Having the rosters is good enough. NBA rotations are much more complicated for a wikipedia editor to decide. • Once again the issue of laziness for reasons to make less info on wiki rather than more comes up. Not everyone is lazy. Depth charts should only be on a team that will have a few people maintain them. I have yet to find a depth chart on a team page that is not being maintained by a few people. I also do not understand why this issue of NBA depth charts is being applied to teams from every pro league on Earth. Certain members are deleting depth charts from leagues a whole world away from the NBA.

This issue is about NBA depth charts and not even pertinent to that, so why is the NBA issue being applied to leagues on the other side of Earth? Also, I would point out that depth charts are arbitrarily being singled out for deletion for certain teams only, while on the other hand, they are being allowed for dozens of other teams. In other words, a few people demanding them to be deleted is outweighing dozens of people that keep adding them in and a few people on each team page that has them, that are maintaining them. This discussion is simply a bit bizarre.

It would only be logical to delete depth charts per team as you see them if they are somehow completely egregious or completely out of date or somehow totally not being maintained. But to want properly maintained and properly updated depth charts to be "banned permanently" from the site simply because you may not agree with them, may not like them, or simply because you do not want people to see it, or simply because you have an issue with a player lower on the depth chart occasionally playing in a different spot seems to be a personal issue to me, not a universally site governing issue in even the least slightest way. Of course, I believe the depth charts should be removed at every team page. I only mentioned the NBA because that's what I'm most familiar with, but I doubt the situation will be much different with other leagues.

It's not a matter of editors being too lazy to maintain these charts. The problem is that these charts are fundementally impossible to maintain. So literally about 3 people on wiki that want depth charts gone simply for the 100% completely biased and totally individually speculative reason that "no wiki editor is capable of handling them" are going to outweigh the dozens of people that are in fact already handling and properly editing the depth charts. Right. You don't have a leg to stand on. And if your best argument is that the depth charts can change once in awhile based on rotation changes and injuries and such, then you are completely out of touch with this subject. Because in that case player positions, player boxes with positions listed, player pages with positions listed, and certainly player roster templates, listing player rotations ALL must also be deleted. Because they too then are incorrect and "no wiki editor can possibly manage them". They too change EXACTLY AS OFTEN as depth charts change and they too are also "entirely arbitrary" then. Since uniformity is always cited as the goal of the sports sections, then dually note they must all also be deleted if you want depth charts deleted. Otherwise kindly add double standard wherever a few editors see fit to the guidelines.

So all roster templates should be deleted form this site also. After all, if a player is listed in a roster template as a point guard and plays a game at shooting guard then based on your argument for why depth charts have to be deleted then so to ALSO should the roster templates be deleted. While we are at it, why not just delete all the basketball team pages form the site as well? Seems that "no wiki editor can possibly manage them properly." The thing is, we have sources describing the rosters and the player positions. What source are you using for the depth charts? You can't rely on your own judgement; that would violate WP:OR. In the first place this what source am I using thing is out of line. There are many, many people here putting and editing depth charts and your insistence on making this personal is getting over the top, besides that you are not using any sources either and the roster template argument you make is simply wrong or you choose to make up your own facts as practically every roster template has errors on a weekly basis so if you ever feel the need to make an argument that actually makes sense, please do so.

On another note Sergiogr (I don't want any guff from any mods about directly using his name here with threats of "against site rules" because he has personally threatened and insulted me numerous times and the mods NEVER EVER do anything about it so at what point do they ban people that actually deserve it? Does it ever happen?) is trying to cause problems in this site out of spite or personal issues and who knows how many people he does this to. The only reason I even got into this discussion was because I went to a page of a team that had a depth chart and it had an error in it. I fixed it and immediately I was attacked with an all out barrage of attacks, insults, reports to mods, and dozens of my edits being reverted, not to mention some hateful messages by Sergiogr. Not to mention an incredibly immature "Depth charts are BANNED and NOT ALLOWED!" message. Consider me 100% till the end of time in favor of depth charts from that moment on. I cannot stand wikipedia net Nazis and we have a prime example of it here. It turns out this depth charts issue is bringing them out left and right. And to anyone that threatens me with another "I'll report you" which I keep getting, and the mods method of simply deleting a message complaining about it, know ahead of time I have been keeping a very detailed log of the hundreds of site violations by Sergiogr and this will be submitted if I get banned, not only that but also the name of the banning moderator to show how they banned legit contributors, yet allowed this Sergiogr to be so ridiculously out of control. I am very put off by what is going on here.

I once made an edit to something like adding the height of a basketball player and he threatened me. I once updated the team a player played on and he attacked and threatened me, I could go on and on. Not to mention the insistence that users are always the same people or the most absurd of all that ANY person editing the Panathinaikos related sections is "an out of control fan boy" and should be banned. One of the most glaringly blatant reasons these depth charts have issues is because of people like this being allowed to run rampant all over this site with never ever being stopped. Like for instance constantly reverting pages like dozens of times an hour. Gee imagine that "the depth charts are outdated", then saying things like "see they can't keep the depth charts up to date". I have seen this guy literally revert a page 50 times in an hour because he was furious that "someone from my hometown had something posted about them that I personally am unaware of". The list is endless. He's probably had 20 people banned from this site over things as simple as well, let me say here he recently had a hissy fit over a date being changed from October 15 to October 15th, yeah I've been watching him like a hawk and it's just hundreds of examples like this and he's done it to numerous people and they were banned.

Maybe just maybe instead of people spending their whole time in this site thinking up ways to "ban" things they should spend it stopping people that keep reverting things a million times. Would that be a little more constructive? I've made so many contributions here and I can't hardly make the simplest edit without having a mod all over me because I keep getting reported on as being "an out of control fan boy", etc. I'm sorry but this kind of thing is absolutely ridiculous. And on this NBA issue you don't even "know the other teams or leagues" and you are complaining incessantly and on an on about depth charts of teams and leagues you admit you know nothing about. That's borderline crossing the line of discourse here.

Not one person has even given a slightly legit reason for depth charts to be "banned" in the first place. The best you can come up with is, "they are arbitrary", "editors are not mentally capable of handling them", and "it's data that can possibly change". At this point I am strongly considering spending a bunch of time to go through the histories of all the sports sections to see just how much vandalism and how much wiki Nazi editing has been going on here, because it's starting to look really suspicious to me. The mere fact that you are backing up this Sergiogr guy and acting like he's some legit editor, when he's one of the most abusive people on the site, really is telling to me, that you are then trying to dictate what is and is not allowed here. You haven't even been able to judge a blatant harasser and vandal like him properly.

I just spent a lot of time working on fixing two team's depth charts. I can 100% assure you that there is nothing at all wrong with them and at this moment they are much more accurate than the roster templates on the pages. Now if this would be allowed to be continued they would be fine as they can be constantly updated, but guess what? it's impossible to do that when people like Sergiogr revert the ENTIRE PAGE EVEY SINGLE TIME they see ANYTHING AT ALL they don't like, and will do it literally a hundred times if needed. And if they get say 3 or 4 people trying to add info in and they can't revert it all because of that they simply report "abuse" to a mod that is a friend and have all 3 or 4 users banned. Now you tell me just exactly you deduct in your mind that is an example of "editors not being able to handle depth charts", because I am really extremely curious to know just exactly how you deduct in your mind that that's what that is. On depth charts for the dozens of non-NBA pro leagues (and many teams right now have them) I think the policy should be that as long as they are being maintained and updated they are fine, right now I have been looking at them and found many and they are all pretty much current and updated and being maintained. I think it would be completely natural to either remove or update one that was quite old or completely wrong. But I'm not really finding ones that are. Also cbs.sportsline.com also has NBA depth charts so that could also be used as a source for NBA ones if someone wanted to attempt one for an NBA team, for example Houston Rockets depth chart.

Should the title "national basketball team" refer to the men's national team while women's teams are called "women's national basketball team"? It seems a bit sexist to say that the Australia or any other national basketball team only refers to men. As far as I can tell, football (soccer) does the same male-preference format that basketball does (see England national football team for example). New Infobox

I have created a new infobox (Template:Infobox NBAretired‎) for retired players because the current one is just not cutting it, yes it is very similar to Template:Infobox NFLretired, but I believe that it is way better than the current one. There are still many errors, like the link to stats and things like that, so if anyone could fix that it would be great. Succession boxes versus navigation templates

I fear I may be abusing the language, because a succession box is a type of navigation template, but I think people know what I mean. I read somewhere that the use of succession boxes was preferred to navigation templates. I've searched, and I can't find the reference. While succession templates may make sense in some cases, I think in the case of awards, such as Naismith award, the navigation template is far better - better looking, more information using less real estate, and more useful to the reader. There are some cases where I would like to replace a succession box with a navigation template. Specifically, Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. The reason I ask is that I wanted to put templates in a collapsible nav box called awards and achievements when the number exceeds five. For example, Candace Parker. One of her achievements is her Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year award, but that's a succession box. I tried an failed to get the succession box inside the collapsible nav box, and that why I wondered if I should convert it to a nav template. If someone can tell me how to get the succession box inside, I can live with that - it looks odd as it is. (Presumably, it is possible, as in Micheal Jordan, but that's a different type of box, I couldn't figure out how to accomplish the similar goal with Parker)--SPhilbrickT 14:27, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

08 Stockholm Human Rights article

I'm assuming that as this isn't the NBA project, you will cover international basketball!

I have expanded the above article using a couple of sources I found, but I don't read Swedish, so I am limited in what I can do! There were a lot of references to the club using Google Search (2990 hits for "08 Stockholm Human Rights"), so there may be many more suitable references, which others may be able to use.

I have the impression from what I have seen that this is a very notable basketball club, so I think it would benefit from more knowledgeable editors looking at it and improving it.

In particular, I am not at all sure that the Merit List section is correctly translated and formatted - perhaps a Swedish basketball fan might be able to improve this.

To be honest, I only came across the article as it had the {{unreferenced}} tag with no date on the tag, which is a category of articles I often look at to find references. It now has the {{Refimprove|date=August 2009}} tag.

Infobox - why no Championships?

Someone just tried to add a championship to an awards and honors section of an infobox. IMO, a championship is a notable accomplishment, but is neither an award or an honor. I started to move it to the appropriate section, then realized that InfoBox NBA and Infobox WNBA do not have an entry for championships, even though NCAA athlete has such a distinction.

Is there a reason for this difference?

I'm tempted to make a change, but my experience with templates is limited - I'm chary of making a change to a commonly used template and finding I've messed up a transcluded template used in many places. Not to mention that I'd hate to go to the effort, and find out there was a conscious decision to exclude the championship entry, and have the work reverted.

If it does make sense to add an entry for Championships, is there someone more familiar with template construction who can help?--SPhilbrickT 11:00, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

GAN backlog reduction - Sports and recreation

As you may know, we currently have 400 good article nominations, with a large number of them being in the sports and recreation section. As such, the waiting time for this is especially long, much longer than it should be. As a result of this, I am asking each sports-related WikiProject to review two or three of these nominations. If this is abided by, then the backlog should be cleared quite quickly. Some projects nominate a lot but don't review, or vice-versa, and following this should help to provide a balance and make the waiting time much smaller so that our articles can actually get reviewed! Convert template fixed

Wikid77 (talk · contribs) has fixed the convert template for conversions from ft-in to cm. Previously, the default setting of the template yielded conversions like

• 6 feet 1 inch (190 cm), 6 feet 2 inches (190 cm), 6 feet 3 inches (190 cm), 6 feet 4 inches (190 cm) etc.

The default conversion now is

• 6 feet 1 inch (185 cm), 6 feet 2 inches (188 cm), 6 feet 3 inches (191 cm), 6 feet 4 inches (193 cm) etc. --JN466 09:20, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Player height in the template--"official" or "actual"?

I see a lot of edits where a player's height in the player template is changed without explanation or a cited source. Sometimes this is trivial vandalism, sometimes it's based on something else, and in some cases it can get quite contentious.

Without doubt, the height used in the template should be based on a cited source (for example Basketball-Reference.com). But what of a situation such as Hakeem Olajuwon and Bill Walton, where a highly reliable source (in this case, a 1994 The New York Times article) reports that the listed heights for these players were intentionally misstated?

The skinny on Hakeem Olajuwon is that he was taller when he was Akeem Olajuwon. He used to be a 7-foot center, when he played for the University of Houston and for many of his years here with the Rockets. He never looked seven feet. In fact, when he played against the Boston Celtics in the 1986 finals, he appeared to be dwarfed by Bill Walton, who was listed as 6 feet 11 inches. Walton was 7-2, at least, but didn't enjoy the stigma that went along with it. Asked that year why he looked so much taller than Olajuwon when he was supposed to be one inch smaller, Walton said, rather testily, "The floor's warped." About the time Olajuwon corrected the world on the spelling of his first name, he also admitted he was closer to 6-10.[1]

My own inclination is that the height used in the player template should usually be the "official" height stated in the cited database (7'0 for Olajuwon, 6'11 for Walton); conflicting reports about actual height can be footnoted and/or discussed in the article (as is currently done in the Olajuwon article but not the Walton article). Wow, I've always believed Hakeem was a 7-footer, and the article you cited was from 15 years ago(1994). In any case, I think that official pre-draft measurements should be the listed height for all NBA players. Or at least the ones that are listed at DraftExpress.com's measurement page. It dates back to 1989, and probably should be used to cite the official heights for all players that came into the league after the year 2000. DD2K (talk) 14:20, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Book-class

Since a couple of Wikipedia-Books are basketball-related, could this project adopt the book-class? This would really help WikiProject Wikipedia-Books, as the WP Basketball people can oversee books like 2008–09 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team much better than we could as far as merging, deletion, content, and such are concerned. Eventually there probably will be a "Books for discussion" process, so that would be incorporated in the Article Alerts.

About merging the PCC and CCL page and changing PCC to Philippine Collegiate Champions League

Maybe somebody could just merge the PCC and CCL page and change the name to Philippine Collegiate Champions League since it is the present name of the tournament and the organizers still refer to previous tournament editions and it was mentioned at the broadcast that the league is on it's 7th year.
