ESPN Rise boys' high school basketball All-Americans

To the best of my knowledge the people who formerly named the ESPN Rise boys' high school basketball All-Americans, have moved to HighSchoolHardwood.com now that ESPN HS has been closed. U16, U17, U18, U19, WUG medalboxes in infoboxes

I know that we have decided not to make Navboxes for age-qualified national teams, but we have consistently mentioned them in text and I see a lot of inconsistency on their inclusion in medalboxes in infoboxes. Has there been a consensus on this anywhere? I put the 2013 U19 gold in infobox medal boxes for Jahlil Okafor, Aaron Gordon, Jarnell Stokes, Marcus Smart and Rasheed Sulaimon. Task Force on women's basketball

I'm gathering feedback for the possibility of starting a Task Force on women's basketball, with the intent that it would be a task force of WikiProject Women's sport as well as WikiProject Basketball (and maybe college basketball). I've read Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Guide/Task_forces#Setting_up_a_task_force_structure, but I did not see whether one is supposed to get permission from the Wikiproject to form a task force, or if one should be bold and just do it. I posting this as a third way - if someone identifies that I am required to get permission, I'll start that process, if I do not hear back soon, I'll be bold.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 14:20, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Matches quantity is a useful data in basketball tournament, it is part of Template:Infobox international football competition and Template:Infobox Rugby World Cup, 2002 FIBA World Championship was a 54 matches sport event 2006 FIBA World Championship and go on is a 80 matches/games event, Women or Men are each a 38 games event in the most recent Basketball at the Summer Olympics, more games mean more tv-money and more ticket to sell, "| matches =" 38?80? must be part of the Template:Infobox FIBA tourney--Feroang (talk) 22:03, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Less than 100 articles to "One infobox"

All- Over the last few years we have been migrating over all players to Template:Infobox basketball biography, which has helped bring consistency to pro player articles and enable quick transitions as active players move leagues & geographies. A few actions that have occurred over the last several years include: Merging of Infobox:PBA player, adding team colors for Euroleague, PBA and NBL Australia clubs, and conversion of the vast majority of current Australian NBL players to the standard infobox. We now stand at less than 100 players using Template:Infobox NBL player (full list here). After these are converted, we will have essentially 100% of male pro basketball players on the same infobox (not including a few incorrectly using "sportsperson," "college" or other boxes). I'd like to ask for help in converting the last set (see link above) to the standard. I can convert a few a week, but it will be faster if others chip in. Thanks and good job everyone! The project page is outdated and a bit clunky, plus it includes a lot of NBA information that is really covered in WP:NBA. I am try to re-write it this weekend. The section at 2005–06 Polish Basketball League#Playoffs needs to be reformatted into something other than the hiddeous mess the wikitext source is. I'd rather not spend my time unpicking that into a handrolled table if your project has some standard way of presenting things. Improving two templates

I've created two potential replacement templates for

• {{CBB roster/Header}} and
• {{CBB roster/Player}}

so that if the parameter sex= is set to w, not only will it change the title as it does now, but also that it will suppress the weight column. Those interested in the use of the template for men's team are likely to have no interest, other than to confirm that it won't break any of the existing men's articles.

Looking for some direction for disambiguation please. There is a former Dominican national team player with this name, and a current Venezuelan national team player with the same name. You can use birthdates, if both are available. That seems to be the most common method of disambiguation in cases like these. Eg, Dee Brown (basketball, born 1968) and Dee Brown (basketball, born 1984). Zagalejo^^^ 00:21, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

"George" Zidek

Looking at George Zidek, today known in Europe as commentator Jiří Zídek Jr, son of Jiří Zídek Sr., the use of his name from 3 years in America 1996-1998 looks strange. This isn't a case of someone who became a US citizen like hockey player Bobby Holík, but of someone who had a green card for 3 years then went to play in Europe under his Czech name. Standardization of 2014 FIBA World Cup articles

Perhaps after the EuroBasket (during the off-season before club seasons begin) is the time we can standardize articles related to the 2014 FIBA World Cup, including qualifying tournaments. Things such as colors that are used, when to use those colors, sections and their titles, article structure, any daughter articles and the like. The eventual goal is for all world and continental championships (men, women and under-X) to have identical (or at least standard) formatting.

Liaoning Flying Leopards

Hey, could anyone help me with the Liaoning Flying Leopards? I can't find anything that states that they have changed their name to Flying Leopards. For the Liaoning team, there are so many names going around: Jaguars [3], Hunters [4] [5], and Dinosaurs (not sure where Dinosaurs comes from; again, I can't find anything for Dinosaurs either). At Eurobasket.com, the history has nothing about any of these names except for "Hunters": [6]. Does anyone know anything about the CBA? Could anyone share some light on this issue? Cheers. Dinosaurs does seem to be the name frequently used i.e. Li Xiaoxu or Josh Akognon. Where does Hunters, Leopards and Jaguars come from? Are they all the same team, just different names over the years? DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:14, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Walk-on, or not?

Normally, a player is either a scholarship player or a walk-on. (In fact, it is common to use the term "walk-on" as if it means non-scholarship. even though the player may have been recruited, may have even received a scholarship at one time, but is no longer receiving a scholarship.) Our templates have the ability to identify players who are walk-ons. What should be done when a player is a walk-on and they are on scholarship?

Briana Pulido is, the real sense of the word, a walk-on for the UConn basketball team. She was on scholarship as a track and field athlete, but responded to a tweet looking for walk-on players. She made the team. She has given up track and field, and is on scholarship. Should she be identified as a walk-on or not?

I have identified her as a walk--on in the roster at 2013–14_Connecticut_Huskies_women's_basketball_team. I just now read she is on scholarship, so wondering if I should change her status. It may be relevant that a reliable source refers to her as a walk-on. Is it that simple, and her status should be changed iff reliable sources change?--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:14, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

What is the process for updating these templates? I looked at two at random, and it looks like they are being updated by random editors who choose to update them. Please contribute to a discussion on amending MOS language with respect to date formats

Hello - there is currently a discussion underway at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers#Date range redux to come to a final resolution the way dates for club tenure in infoboxs are displayed (e.g. - with a club from 2001–2007 or 2001–07). If you have an opinion one way or the other, please take part. The value in coming to a final resolution (either having language added to allow 8 digit date spans for this purpose or expressly forbidding it) is that it would provide certainty to these cases and stop needless reverting of this format one way or the other. If you do take part, please be sure to ground your arguments/opinions in fact, Wikipedia precedent and real world examples as opposed to preference only as this will help the project make the right call. There are thousands of articles (touched by thousands of editors) that use summary club tenure information in infoboxes, so there is clearly an advantage to settling it in a clear manner so all can comply. Serbian league signee?

There has been a lot of weird Partizan activity lately - the same thing was happening with Scott Machado's article about a week ago which seemed to come from this Tweet. I checked their their official site (which has an English version - though the news stories usually lag a few days from the Serbian version). And since Partizan is a Euroleague club I checked the Euroleague transactions page. Not finding anything there I went to Sportando.net's transaction page and still nothing. My guess is that Partizan is shopping for a guard and people are reacting to rumored signings in some Serbian-language press. College stat templates

I was looking for a template to create a table of stats for a college basketball players.

I notice that the college stats of Juwan Howard are presented with an NBA template. While I cannot think why that would be a problem, I wanted to check to see if there was a template designed for college.

I was also surprised, in a small quasi-random sample of notable college players Jimmy King, Jalen Rose, and Michael Jordan, how few had college stats. It seems like an obvious inclusion, is it less likely when they are better know as pros, or am I missing something?--S Philbrick(Talk) 23:53, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

I have added college stats to some articles (such as Dionte Christmas), but there isn't a hard and fast format so far as I know. Division I men's college stats are easy to find for pretty much anyone from about 1996 to now through sites like statsheet.com (blacklisted on Wikipedia for a questionable reason) or [[7]]. For anyone who has played in the NBA since about the late 70s/80s college stats are usually present at the bottom of the player's basketball-reference.com profile. Otherwise, they are often (though not always) found in school media guides. Worth noting that lower division, NAIA or junior college stats are usually pretty hard to find. Not sure if women's stats are as easy. Personally, I'd love to see college stats on every player article, there just is so much else to do and I have found creating stat tables quite time-consuming (and tedious). I made {{Basketball box score header}} several months ago which was supposed to be used as a header for basketball box scores. Box scores everywhere are surprisingly almost universal; the only deviations I encountered were 2FG instead of FG (2s and 3s), BS (blocked shots) and BA (blocked attempts), and the use of dashes and slashes on shots made/attempts.

Basketball notability guidelines

Just a note that there is a list of "fully professional" ice hockey leagues that essentially confirm notability (found here). This is consistent with the list for football/soccer and the is an increasingly easy standard for baseball as well. At what point does adding leagues to the basketball standard (which IMO should probably at least mirror hockey as it is a higher profile world sport) take something less than an act of god and/or reams of research? I'm not that knowledgeable about those other projects, but I think we should stick with GNG as much as possible before adding to NSPORTS. Think WP:NOTBUREAUCRACY, and keeping rules to a minimum. If not having it in NSPORTS is causing a major identifiable problem (e.g. lots of stubs being contested on people later found to be notable), I'm all for adding to NSPORTS if say 3 identifiable sources for that league can be shown to pretty much consistently cover all players in that league. For the NBA, that might be local team's newspaper, ESPN, and Yahoo. The real test is for players who didn't play college basketball, as most college players talented enough to play professionally have enough notable coverage from HS + college alone, and their hometown papers are likely to follow their overseas career somewhat.—Bagumba (talk) 00:00, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
