Where is your reasoning? Is it the comment from the IP that claimed that BuddyTV is a "fansite"? If so, then that is patently false - the article that is used as a reference is written by Jon Lachonis, who is a senior writer on a paid salary for the website. What you can do is continue to warn the user on the talk page (as you have already done) every time he/she vandalizes a page. Once the warnings reach the 4th level ("final warning") and the vandalism continues, you can report the user to administrator intervention against vandalism with a brief explanation of his/her actions. You do have 155 - as of now. According to Milestone, your 150th mainspace edit was on 25 November 2007. To participate in the election, you had to have 150 mainspace edits by November 1st. As you say, the editcount is good - but it just missed the deadline. Sorry for the confusion. For what it's worth, you're good to go for future elections. You can also leave your vote in place, if you like, as a show of support for the candidate - though it'll be indented, it still says that you offered your support. Motto of the day

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

BLUE Adventure Lifestyle magazine/Amy Schrier

HI Yaksar,

1) I am interested in updating the BLUE magazine information. Currently, when wikipedia visitors search for BLUE magazine they get a gay mens magazine from Australia. But, published concurrently was a different BLUE magazine, an adventure travel magazine, that was also known as BLUE magazine.

First, I need to figure out how to change this confusion. There is a listing for BLUE, the Adventure Lifestyle magazine but it is under BLUE (tourism) magazine and no one would search this title.

It is significant in many ways. It won the award for best magazine covers of the past 10 years, among many other awards, it had notable contributers and staff.

It is notable now, because the archive will launch this month and many people will search Wikipedia for this magazine.

I would like to replace the BLUE (tourism) magazine with BLUE the Adventure Lifestyle Magazine which more accurately reflects its title.

If you could help edit any bias in the text it would be much appreciated.

2) An entry for Amy Schrier who was the founder of BLUE magazine and also previously mentioned in other Wikipedia listings, is launching a new media venture MISSION, a website and magazine about global travel and humanitarian issues, this is also significant and she should be listed, for such accomplishments as founding BLUE magazine and now founding MISSION. Again, if you could help me edit would be much appreciated.

Hi, I'm happy to help. The main issue with your article is that, while well written, it does not establish the notability of the subject. I'd suggest reading up on the requirements for establishing notability of a company on this page. If this is your own business, or one that you are inextricably linked to, I'd recommend adding it to an appropriate category at Wikipedia:Requested articles in order to avoid a conflict of interest. If you'd like, I can create a subpage for you to work on the article, where you can fix and improve it until it can be added to the encyclopedia without risk of being removed. No problem, A7 is a bit tricky, and everyone makes mistakes while they're learning it. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about deletion in the future. In this case, the article doesn't really meet any of the criteria for speedy deletion, so if you feel it should be deleted, you should nominate it for deletion through one of the other processes, Proposed Deletion (PROD) for uncontroversial cases, or Articles for Deletion (AfD) for the other cases. In my opinion, this article is a decent candidate for PROD, since the subject is obviously not notable. However, there are some editors who have a slightly lower threshold than I, and would object to the deletion of an article about a professor without discussion, so I have nominated it at AfD. Regarding your conflict of interest concerns, this is quite common with articles like this, but I find it best to simply treat the article as though it wasn't an autobiography. A conflict of interest isn't grounds for deletion alone: if the subject isn't notable, the article will be deleted anyway. Anyway, I hope that all makes sense. Howling Bells song pages

Hi. I'm a new poster, this is the first talk I have done so I don't really know what I am doing. I think that my articles are appropriate and deserving of a place on Wikipedia, because all the bands pages that I research on the site are structured in the same manner. Hey, first of all let me say I'm happy you've chosen to contribute to Wikipedia, you seem like a very able editor. I have to admit, I did feel terrible tagging the song articles for deletion. However, they simply did not meet the criteria for notability as outlined in Wikipedia:MUSIC. I'd suggest reading up on that, and then potentially adding any info you feel should stay into the appropriate pages. I could also copy those song pages into a subspace of your userpage in case you wanted to work on drafts. Firstly, thank you for the compliments, I feel that I put a lot of positive effort into it and contributed to a better documentation of the band, so your observation of that is appreciated. I did take the time to read up on Wikipedia:MUSIC, and from that I learned that indeed the band do meet the notability standards in at least seven of the twelve requirements as written under the heading, Criteria for musicians and ensembles. I took note of what numbers they are and added them on the articles' talk pages. I actually had nothing to do with any possible challenges to the band's notability, just the songs. The band may very well meet the criteria needed, but I'd make sure to check out this specific section on songs to make sure that the individual songs deserve their own page. This is an issue unrelated to whether or not the band is notable; it is a separate analysis of the songs. Your voluminous and enthusiastic contributions to Talk:Spark (fire) 76 and counting are giving the impression of badgering. When comment is requested (and typically these last for 30 days) it is best to wait until a discussion develops. There's not that much of a rush, and you don't have to attempt to agree with, or refute, every single post. Seek to enhance, not delete

Yaksar, it seems to me you have decided to enter a lot of deletion nominations. This seems to not be the best course of action in many of these cases. It would probably be better to look into the articles more and seeing if you can not find more sources before just reccomending deletion. This is especially true because it is a general rule of thumb that most tenured professors at universities are notable, however many articles on them may not actually document why they are notable accurately. I would agree that the Henry Torrey article was weak, and the Hafen article has probaby been inproved by needing to respond to a call for deletion, but especially in the case of LeRoy Hafen he is no where near being anything but notable. One issue with Hafen is you brought up the fact that there was only one item in te sources list, however you ignored the four items in the external links list. In this case some of those maybe should be under sources since they do constitute major sources for the article, but ignoring them out of hand because they are not under the heading "sources" does not seem to be a very good approach. One hard part about finding more sources to list for Hafen is that there are just so many listings of his 35+ books, and a large number of other sources that are places referencing one or more of his 35+ books, that it is hard to get to other information on him. I will try a search or two that I have not done yet, but his Handcarts to Zion is so heavily quoted in Mormon sources that turning to some of these to glean pertinent personal information is not as helpful for him as it is for many other Mormons.John Pack Lambert (talk) 06:22, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

In regards to Hafen, I did look through all of the links on the page. However, they all seemed to either be written by Hafen himself or simply a page showing his book in a catalog or library. While these are certainly fine to have in the article, they don't help give any evidence of notability. In regards to the other nominations, I only created an AfD if they didn't meet the criteria outlined at Wikipedia:Notability_(academics).--Yaksar (let's chat) 06:52, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

The DU Pedia article that was in the external links is neither created by Hafen nor just notice of the existence of works by him. The link to the Hafen Photography collection includes in it a biography of Hafen, which was why it was included. The biography was not written by Hafen. In fact as far as I can tell none of the links actually go to things written by Hafen, with the exception of the material based on his foreward to the 1981 edition of Broken Hand: The biography of Thomas Fitzpatrick. There are references to the "About the author" section in the 2004 Edition of The Overland Mail, but this was written 19 years after Hafen's death.John Pack Lambert (talk) 16:32, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Hafen passes the first possible condition for academic notability. "The person's research has made significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources." Hafen's large body of published work is the basis from which all later study of the western fur trade is done. People will write "Hafen missed a lot of sources of independent Deleware involvement in the trade" at times, but by doing so they recognize Hafen's work as the standard from which later historians must build. He probably also passes the widely influencial outside of academia standard, with the number of citations to his work on the majority of sites that mention the Santa Fe trade, many geneological research sites for his books on Colorado history, and lots of citations to his book on the Handcart companies. I have incorporated some of the more prominent references to Hafen in the article. I have not even yet done a search for just LeRoy Hafen on google. Um, regarding your last question, I'm not exactly sure I understand it... Are you asking about marking pages as patrolled? If so, don't worry too much about it. Jarlaxl is almost always oversighted, as his intentions (and comments) are purely disruptive and defamatory. Satndard operating procedure in this case, unfortunately, but easier to deal with than some of his disruption in years (literally) gone by. Crocker Highlands Elementary School merge

I've never really partaken in a merge, despite years of editing. Per the AfD comments and the merge notice, the merge target is not the list of Oakland elementary schools but the school district page for Oakland, CA. I see no good reason for those "list of schools" links from that page; one good paragraph should do it in each case. The lists themselves can go to AfD.

Organizational issues: Maybe a "Noted schools" section should be opened up? Sure, it looks weird to have one school singled out on that page. But "weird" is just another way to say WP:IMPERFECT. I don't doubt that other schools in Oakland have gotten some local press, though perhaps not nearly as much.

As for what to do with the Crocker Highlands text: see how much of it is redundant, or going into detail about tangential matters? Boldly condense or eliminate this stuff. For example, this:

Chelda Ruff a former vice principal and math administrator from Woodland Joint Unified School District near Sacramento, was the principal during the 2006-2007 school year. She had been a math and technology teacher in the Travis Unified School District in Fairfield, California, where she developed an algebra curriculum for students in all grades. That might be appropriate detail if this were a BLP of Ms. Ruff (and for all we know, she's independently notable, or will become so soon, so it might make sense to WP:PRESERVE the paragraph above on the school district talk page.) But it's altogether too much about her, and about a school she used to work for, in an article that's really about the school she worked for in the 2006-7 school year. I feel something like the following would be giving her due credit.

In 2006-7, Chelda Ruff, a former math and technology teacher who'd been noted for developing a successful algebra curriculum elsewhere, was principal.[7]

And I'm going to make that change. For now, the part I've cut is on the Crocker Highlands Talk page. It shouldn't be moved anywhere without noting the copy.

This discussion of trimming should move to the Oakland school district Talk page eventually, but a little local whittling on the article itself is probably OK for now, prior to merging.

It's a sizeable article, and I must admit, a pretty good one. Maybe if enough of it is appropriately WP:PRESERVEd, much of it could come back to life if WP:SCHOOL guidelines change enough to justify independent existence. I could support a WP:SCHOOL guideline that says it's basically WP:ORG for primary and middle schools, but with the usual WP:ORG requirement of more-than-local news coverage relaxed. Let me know if you'd like to support such a change -- we can userfy some version of this article as an example for that discussion, to suggest how that change might make Wikipedia better. sophistication

Oh, man. I want to scream "sophisticate this!" at CW. But if I go into the sophistication AfD so soon after "winning" on Crocker Highland and extravagance, he will have a wikistalking case against me (as he accused in the extravagance AfD discussion, getting my motivations wrong as usual.) The last thing I need right now, given my combative style in AfD, is a WP:BATTLEGROUND charge with some evidence to back it up. Would CW go there? Of course he would. That's the kind of oblivious hypocrite he is.

I must admit, on the basis of a desperately brief look at the sources listed, CW might have more of a case for notability than I had with my baby tryphé, carved out of extravagance by C-section on its brain-dead mother. I would really need to absorb something of the claimed sources on sophistication and think a while. In the meantime, consider sophistication (literary theory) as a dilution strategy.

I devoutly wish that Wikipedia had a WP:DEATHROW policy that addressed this practice of squatting articles and defending them in AfD on the grounds that they theoretically could be improved, but without ever actually improving them. The admin who closed extravagance with "Delete" might agree. It's said that there are no emergencies on Wikipedia, but I think the reason I'm attracted to AfD is precisely because it has something like deadlines. I can help kill! I can help rescue! But -- tick-tock-tick-tock -- time's quickly running out! Maybe this idea should be extended further, with overall benefits to Wikipedia. Like, if something doesn't get acceptably wikified within two months of being listed for wikification, it's automatically PRODded? I'm sure you can think of others. Ron didn't notice my delete vote because he closed the AfD a full 9 minutes early... (kidding) I agree with Ron that the result would probably be upheld at DRV just by the headcount alone. It's unfortunate that the AfD didn't get attention from a very diverse group though. Almost all of the keep votes were from ARS members, except Epeefleeche (whose vote was a WP:PERNOM, and he often tags things for rescue even though he isn't "officially" a member) and Guoguo12. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but most of us know that Colonel Warden and Dream Focus vote Keep about 99.9% of the time. Bearian is usually more reasonable. Anyway, I think you're on the right track, Yaksar. Wait a month and renominate if the article hasn't been significantly expanded, and if the AfD gets more diverse attention but still closes as Keep, then you'll have to accept that your opinion doesn't match up with consensus and move on. Hey there. First off, for simple conflict of interest reasons, I'd advise against creating pages for your own companies; it can make it look like there is a bias in the article or that it is simply an advertisement. Also, remember that your intentions in making the flag, no matter how right or noble, has nothing to do with the notability of the flag itself. And just because something may not be notable enough for it's own article does not mean it does not deserve mention in another. Maybe [[Betsy Ross Flag], Tea Party movement, Scott Brown, or something like Flags used by the Tea Party Movement would be great places to have a section on this topic.

Speaking only for myself, certainly not. There are times that IMHO a collapse is not appropriate. Usually, when one can divine how the effect that it will have is to hide pertinent information. Here, as I saw it, an irrelevant and false blue herring personal attack was launched. It merited a response for the (ever-growing) record. But had it not been made (the effect of a collapse), it would not have required any treatment at all. My only thought is that it may -- if it increases the ability of other editors to find it in a later search by other editors who encounter similar problems-- be worth uncollapsing it in the final archived version.
