Kosovo

Hello. There's a discussion and vote going on at Talk:Kosovo#Kosovo:_terminology as to whether or not it's better to use Kosovo rather than Kosovan or Kosovar in the Wikipedia articles. Zdravo Vanja. --Pockey (talk) 23:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Rock music WikiProject

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. I have started a Wikipedia:Request for comment on this topic at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#RfC on ESCKaz reliability. This discussion originates from questions on the reliability of the ESCKaz website and if it should be used in Eurovision articles on Wikipedia. It has now being extended to fully review all sources used in articles covered by WikiProject Eurovision, including ESCToday and Oikotimes. This is a very important issue to the project as sourcing is a key part of articles, and consensus needs to be reached on which sources should be used when, where and how. This discussion however has so far lacked a wide range of editor participation, and as you have listed yourself as a member of WikiProject Eurovision I invite you to add your thoughts. In particular more input is needed from editors which have a high level of experience with relevant guidelines/policies such as Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability, and who have up until now stayed outside this debate, though all contributions are welcome. Thank you. Camaron | Chris (talk) 11:09, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Jugovizija

Great job with making those Yugoslavia pages. One question though, you said that the selection was "Jugovizija". Some had told me before that it was known by a different name and Jugovizija was a newer name for it. Do you know anything about this? See Yugoslavian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest which is what we came up with, assuming that there were different names for it over the years which is what I was assured there were. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 18:56, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I guess we should put the name of the final that year, though I have no idea what it was. Anyway, I can almost guarantee that user:Imbris will come on and change a bunch of stuff when he finds the articles. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 19:07, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Regarding the move of Hoćemo gusle to We Want Gusle

My apologies for the late reply to your query regarding my reason for moving the article you created, Hoćemo gusle to We Want Gusle. Although I attempted to briefly state the justification for the move in my edit summary, the subject obviously requires a much greater elucidation to serve as a possible guideline and point for future discussion. As most Wikipedia editors know, it has been a longtime policy to retain the original spelling of names and places rendered in the Latin alphabet, including accents, diacritics and occasional no-Latin-alphabet characters, such as letters from the Icelandic alphabet (for example, Þórður Friðjónsson). As always there are exceptions—individuals from past centuries known in English and some other other languages by their Latinized names: (Nicolaus Copernicus and variations thereof in other Western European languages, rather than Mikołaj Kopernik and variations thereof in other Slavic languages). Original place names are generally retained except for major world cities and other key geographical designations which have traditional names in each language. Myriad discussions on talk pages of various locations present arguments for the use of local or traditional names (Talk:Kraków, especially the archived section, with arguments for the retention of the long-used English form, Cracow). There are also orthographic disagreements over Tbilisi/Tiflis, Mumbai/Bombay, Beijing/Peking and numerous other designations, as well as political disputes over name usage, perhaps best exemplified by Macedonia naming dispute which, as in the case of issues raised in Hoćemo gusle, stems directly or indirectly from unresolved matters inherent in the breakup of Yugoslavia. Various components of the Manual of Style set out consensus points on these issues. Among them are List of alternative country names, List of country names in various languages, Names of European cities in different languages, Help:Page name, Wikipedia:Naming conflict, Wikipedia:Naming conventions and its subdivisions Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people), Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names), Wikipedia:Naming conventions (operas) and particularly Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English). In discussing the specific topic in question, the name of a work of art, the primary guidelines appear in Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Use the most easily recognized name and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English): "Use the most commonly used English version of the name of the subject as the title of the article, as you would find it in verifiable reliable sources (for example other encyclopedias and reference works)". This must be understood as requiring the main title header to state literal English translation of titles for which no standard or well-known English-language appellations exist. Redirects, of course will still enable editors to find the work in question via its original title. Although this is the English Wikipedia, exceptions are made for some, but not the majority, of titles in the five most-commonly used Western European languages, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Rare exceptions are also made for well-known titles in Japanese and other non-Western languages. Works of art, in a wide definition, include novels, plays, poems, works of non-fiction, operas, songs, music albums, paintings, sculptures and myriad subcategories thereof. Only Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera formulated naming conventions stating, specifically, "The name of the opera should be in its original language except:

  • When the opera is commonly known in English-speaking nations by another title (i.e. The Marriage of Figaro).
  • When the opera's full original title is widely known in an abbreviated form (i.e. I Lombardi).
  • If the opera's title is rendered in its original language, capitalization should follow the usage in the most recent editions of New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians and New Grove Dictionary of Opera.
  • If the opera's title is rendered in English, use standard English usage."

The "original language" indication, it should be noted, applies primarily to German, French and Italian operas with exceptions for works in other languages, such as Russian, which use the name of a character—Boris Godunov, or Yevgeny Onegin (which is generally performed in English-speaking countries under the title which uses the protagonist's Anglicized given name, Eugene Onegin). A well-known title which does not lend itself to easy translation, Khovanshchina, is another rare example. Operas with titles in Polish, Czech, Hungarian and other languages are known almost exclusively under their English-language titles (The Haunted Manor not Straszny dwór, The Cunning Little Vixen not Příhody Lišky Bystroušky and Bluebeard's Castle not A kékszakállú herceg vára). Examples, needless to say, can always be found within Wikipedia of editors using original titles unknown to English-speaking audiences, such as Ero s onoga svijeta, as well as Szibill and Zsuzsi kisasszony, which played in New York as Sybil and Miss Springtime, respectively. These titles and a number of others should eventually be moved to English-language headers. The titles of books, plays and films adhere to English almost entirely. The only exceptions are for easily-pronounced, well-established titles in German, French, Italian and Spanish such as Das Boot, Les Misérables/Les Miserables, La Dolce Vita and Volver. A handful of recent Spanish-language film titles such as Amores Perros and Y tu mamá también/Y tu mama tambien have also remained in their original form. As for the rest, it's The Blue Angel not Der blaue Engel, In Search of Lost Time/Remembrance of Things Past not À la recherche du temps perdu, Big Deal on Madonna Street not I soliti ignoti and The Spirit of the Beehive not El espíritu de la colmena. Another handful of classic titles in other languages includes India's Pather Panchali and Aparajito (the third film in the Apu Trilogy, Apur Sansar, however, is known in the English-speaking world as The World of Apu and should be moved to that title) and some Japanese titles such as Ugetsu, Kagemusha, Ran and Dodes'ka-den (thus rendered on film posters and in film reference books, not the Japanese transliteration, Dodesukaden, as it currently stands). As previously stated, this is an extensive topic and more will be added in subsequent discussions. As to titles of record albums, even if the Wikipedia community were to accept WikiProject Opera's "original title" standard (no such consensus currently exists), it would still only apply to German, French, Italian and Spanish titles. The process might include Alizée's French album, Mes Courants Électriques, which you gave as an example of a foreign-title album retaining its original title, or it might not, that proposition will need to be tested to determine community consensus. However, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Romanian, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish and Slavic-language titles (as well as others too numerous to mention) face an extremely high hurdle.—Roman Spinner (talk) 21:24, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Prokletije

Evo da probam ovako:

Maja je naravno vrh, na šiptarskom.

  • Maja Jezercë je Jezerski vrh, najviši vrh Prokletija. Ostali vrhovi bi bili:
  • Gusan, 2539
  • Bogdaš, 2533 m
  • Žuti kamen, 2522 m
  • Marijaš, 2510 m
  • Tromeđa, 2366 m

Nisam do sada imao nikakvu podršku osim par vas?

Tek, eto tako! Javi šta misliš, i šta ćemo dalje!

POBEĐUJEMO!!!

Croats talk page

Hello. I removed your comments from the talk page as they are trolling and indeed, off topic; for example, if the article is about "cars" you cannot just come to a talk page and talk about your favourite cars.

I refer you specifically to this section of talk page rules. Specifically, these two points

  • Keep on topic: Talk pages are for discussing the article, not for general conversation about the article's subject (much less other subjects). Keep discussions on the topic of how to improve the associated article. Irrelevant discussions are subject to removal.
The discussion of "famous women", actually the way you worded it, was trolling, not for the improvement of the article. Therefore, your comments were off-topic, and liable to be removed.
  • Stay objective: Talk pages are not a forum for editors to argue their own different points of view about controversial issues. They are a forum to discuss how the different points of view obtained from secondary sources should be included in the article, so that the end result is neutral and objective (which may mean including conflicting viewpoints). The best way to present a case is to find properly referenced material (for an alternative forum for personal opinions, see the Wikibate proposal).
Your comments were not objective; they were biased, and even though you may not have intended to, the words could be seen as offensive to some.

Please keep this in mind when posting in the future,

I do agree with a large portion of your edits. You seem like a very good editor - which is a rare thing to find when dealing with Balkan related articles. I realise you were probably just trying to be funny, and, while it was funny, it was also irrelevant and worded badly. However, the point you made about famous women does seem valid - you should bring it up in a neutral, and non-condescending manner. I've noticed many of the ethnic group articles, particularly those of Eastern/South-Eastern peoples, have only men in their picture. It really should be changed, so people don't think all these people are so misogynistic.

Cheers. 124.186.135.244 (talk) 10:15, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

<references/> and {{reflist}}

Hello, just thought I'd drop you a line about this edit. While I have no problem using either {{reflist}} or the traditional references format, you might want to note that {{reflist}} is generally used only when there are many references, to reduce the space taken up. As stated on the {{reflist}} template documentation: Use this template to create a reference list in small font for an article. Note that there is no consensus that small font size should always be used for all references; when normal-sized font is more appropriate on an article, use <references /> instead. Again, I have no problem with using either, but changing to the template is unnecessary and not supported by consensus. Best wishes, – Toon(talk) 00:02, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

This RfC is critical as it will help determine how current and future Eurovision articles are sourced, and as much participation as possible is needed for a consensus to develop. You are being notified as you are listed as an active user of Wikipedia:WikiProject Eurovision, and hence the results of this RfC could have a large impact on the articles you edit. Cao! Pozz --89.216.69.125 (talk) 12:44, 7 July 2009 (UTC) --Ogggy (talk) 12:45, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Super S Karamelom

Promenio sam (vratio zapravo) ime clanka u Super S Karamelom. Ostalocutanje (talk) 23:02, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Straw poll on reliable sources for Eurovision articles

The second RfC on sourcing for Eurovision articles has now being running for several weeks, you can view it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#RfC on reliable sources for Eurovision articles. In order to help gauge the spread of opinion and draw conclusions from this discussion a straw poll has been started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Straw poll. All project members are encouraged to read the RfC thoroughly and then cast their votes as they see fit. Rationales are still encouraged in the main discussion area above the poll, and participants can add appropriate new sources or options to the poll as they wish. Kosovski boj

In note, it appears that only Serbia doesn't recognise it. There are majority of UN nations (130) that agree with Serbia. It this note, there are no information about that. Following NPOV, that must be changed. I invite you to join discussion, and vote.

Lista ambasadora

Pozdrav. FkpCascais (talk) 17:37, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Nema problema, ja sam juce to spojio.
