I am very overwhelmed

- Hi, @OhioGirl42986! Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been quite busy IRL. The best place to start is to just read articles that are of interest to you and see if you can improve them -- fix typos, for instance. WikiCup 2022 May newsletter
The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.
Our top scorers in round 2 were:
Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.
The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

New administrator activity requirement
The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Guideline and policy news
- Following an RfC, a change has been made to the administrators inactivity policy. Under the new policy, if an administrator has not made at least 100 edits over a period of 5 years they may be desysopped for inactivity.
- Following a discussion on the bureaucrat's noticeboard, a change has been made to the bureaucrats inactivity policy.
Technical news
- The ability to undelete the associated talk page when undeleting a page has been added. This was the 11th wish of the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey.
- A public status system for WMF wikis has been created. It is located at https://www.wikimediastatus.net/ and is hosted separately to WMF wikis so in the case of an outage it will remain viewable.
Arbitration
- Remedy 2 of the St Christopher case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to place a ban on single-purpose accounts who were disruptively editing on the article St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine or related pages from those pages.

- Valereee, I appreciate you taking the time to review my request. I'd like to clarify both of the tags you've put on the page and the discussion you've opened on the article's talk page. For notability - I'm confused by your reservations. This Wiki discussion suggests that significant coverage in local sources can establish notability for all subjects except companies. The Steve Salis article includes national sources, like National Restaurant News, where appropriate. The paid contributions tag is similarly puzzling as I'm a declared COI editor following all of Wiki's policies; all the content added has been vetted by veteran, unaffiliated editors. - @Sheena 2022, sorry, I'm not sure what in that long discussion you're referring to. It's four years old, so probably finding information in actual policy rather than in discussion is better. Declared paid is still paid, and it concerns me that other paid editors are also involved and that some of them may not have declared themselves and that clearly Mr. Salis paid to have an article created about him and is still paying people to make sure it says exactly what he wants it to say.
- FWIW, the best advice you can give your boss is that Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. And paying people to write about you unfortunately will absolutely attract hostile attention from other editors, which means that things he doesn't want in that article could end up in it even if they wouldn't have in the normal course of things. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello Valereee,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 819 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 860 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

I am not following you around. I check AfD a lot and I guess you nominated more than one article that caught my interest. My participation in AfD discussions has nothing to do with who nominated them. I see you deleted this question, so were obviously borderline about asking, but I think it's a fair question to ask, I've been asked before when I also found myself commenting on more than one AfD by the same author and it prompted me to adjust my user page to clarify that I take an interest in AfD.

The New topic tool helps editors create new ==Sections== on discussion pages. New editors are more successful with this new tool. You can read the report. Soon, the Editing team will offer this to all editors at most WMF-hosted wikis. You can join the discussion about this tool for the English Wikipedia is at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Enabling the New Topic Tool by default. You will be able to turn it off in the tool or at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.
The Editing team plans to change the appearance of talk pages. These are separate from the changes made by the mw:Desktop improvements project and will appear in both Vector 2010 and Vector 2022. The goal is to add some information and make discussions look visibly different from encyclopedia articles. You can see some ideas at Wikipedia talk:Talk pages project#Prototype Ready for Feedback.

Guideline and policy news
- Several areas of improvement collated from community member votes have been identified in the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement guidelines. The areas of improvement have been sent back for review and you are invited to provide input on these areas.
Technical news
- Administrators using the mobile web interface can now access Special:Block directly from user pages. (T307341)
- The IP Info feature has been deployed to all wikis as a Beta Feature. Any autoconfirmed user may enable the feature using the "IP info" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. Autoconfirmed users will be able to access basic information about an IP address that includes the country and connection method. Those with advanced privileges (admin, bureaucrat, checkuser) will have access to extra information that includes the Internet Service Provider and more specific location.
Arbitration
- Remedy 2 of the Rachel Marsden case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to delete or reduce to a stub, together with their talk pages, articles related to Rachel Marsden when they violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.
- An arbitration case regarding WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has been closed.

- @Justanothersgwikieditor, so here's my feeling.
- The "You can disagree with us" article in The Straits isn't about Shoukouwa. It's about the vagaries and controversies of Michelin assessments, including among other oddnesses the fact Shoukouwa got 2 stars in the inaugural SG Guide within weeks of being opened. The restaurant itself is barely mentioned in the article. I would not count this toward notability.
- "Sushi worth its stars" in The Straits is a lengthy review of the restaurant. I understand that SG media is trickier to assess because it's all "national" media and, as you've pointed out, there's a history of gastronationalism among it and its neighbors so we might not be able to expect the same kind of coverage that, say, a notable Chicago restaurant might get in the NYT or LATimes. Still, a truly notable sushi restaurant ought to at least get mentioned in press somewhere else. But I'll accept it as one.
- The "Life Food & Drink" article (also in The Straits) is barely more than a directory listing. On top of that, I generally am reluctant to use for assessments of notability for restaurants anything that comes from the same source, no matter how reliable. These are all from the same source and in the same year. And this directory-ish piece is only a few weeks after the review.  Squash is a racket and ball sport played by two or four players in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball. The players alternate in striking the ball with their rackets onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court. The objective of the game is to hit the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return.

Thank you for your interest in the violinist. You added to a closed discussion, the DYK nomination, and I don't know where to answer. You say "your hook" but - please read the discussion - that was not "my" hook, - my hook spoke of music (which I heard, pictured on my talk). Others changed it, and the prep builder made a completely different thing of it, and then changed again. My hook said he was from Odessa and is teaching at Folkwang (which is in Essen, Germany, for those who don't recognise the name). I thought that told about his two nationalities background better than some "Ukrainian-German". I am not into diplomatic finesse, sorry, and I believe that even having a German passport would not have prevented him being held as the holder of a Ukrainian passport at an age able to defend. - No problem. I returned from an outing, fresh air was good. I thought about why I am so unhappy with the Semenenko hook, and arrived at - short version - that I experienced him playing the music by Ukrainian composers as the voice of Ukraine that will not be silenced, and none of that shows in a hooks saying only that due to him forgetting something he was in a situation beyond his control. Just for you to understand. - Completely different topic: I think I told you about WP:ITNN, under-staffed especially on weekend. Would you be willing to watch it? Right now, I have a "recent death" there, entered 1 June, marked ready today, - that's not "recent" any more, and is still not on the Main page. - I see, - silly me, I think I even noticed that but forgot. - What is DYK for? May be I misunderstand. - @Gerda Arendt well, for me the article is for covering the important stuff about the subject. DYK is for mentioning something interesting about the subject so that others will go read the article and possibly improve it. The more people we can get to a new article, the more likely it is one of them will try to improve it. That's the reason I nom pretty much everything I nom.
- It's kind of like the cover of a book, which has one job: gets you to pick it up and read the copy on the back. The copy on the back has one job: get you to read the first page. The first page has one job: get you to buy the book.
- DYK has one job: get people to the article. So every DYK hook should be created with that in mind. Once they're at the article, they'll see all the important stuff about the subject. But if we don't get them to the article? No one will see it. valereee (talk) 19:05, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
- That's a good theory. But 1: millions click the Main page each day, but only some four-digit number will turn to the article. For the others, the hook will remain all they'll ever read about the subject. But 2: a "cover" telling me that a forgetful person was kept where he didn't want to be would not get me into wanting to find out more. - So I'll keep trying to put as much positive information as possible in each hook, facing to be turned down again and again. - That's a good theory. But 1: millions click the Main page each day, but only some four-digit number will turn to the article. For the others, the hook will remain all they'll ever read about the subject. But 2: a "cover" telling me that a forgetful person was kept where he didn't want to be would not get me into wanting to find out more. - So I'll keep trying to put as much positive information as possible in each hook, facing to be turned down again and again. - No problem. I returned from an outing, fresh air was good. I thought about why I am so unhappy with the Semenenko hook, and arrived at - short version - that I experienced him playing the music by Ukrainian composers as the voice of Ukraine that will not be silenced, and none of that shows in a hooks saying only that due to him forgetting something he was in a situation beyond his control. Just for you to understand. - Completely different topic: I think I told you about WP:ITNN, under-staffed especially on weekend. Would you be willing to watch it? Right now, I have a "recent death" there, entered 1 June, marked ready today, - that's not "recent" any more, and is still not on the Main page. Ukrainian peace music is "on" today, with the conductor! I use that hook with more enthusiasm than the passive "stranded" for the violinist. - Pentecost (on last Sunday and Monday in Germany) brought a rich harvest of great music in two church services (one with me singing in choir) and two concerts with my brother in the orchestra, - four pictures I took besides the symphonic one. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:48, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
