Alfred 'Ken' Gatward

Hello. I see you added a curation note on this page - Alfred 'Ken' Gatward - I created. I've tried to decipher what needs to be done but can't fathom what's required. If you can update the first reference, I'll follow suit on the others. Or, alternatively, direct me to a page with the correct citation format and I'll update the page accordingly. I changed two of of the references on Alfred 'Ken' Gatward using {{cite news}} and {{cite web}} but I could have used {{London Gazette}} for at least one if I had known that template existed when I made that first edit. That should be enough to get you going on Gatward. It looks like you've created a bunch of pages already using the same reference style -- I'm not surprised this issue hasn't been mentioned by another editor because properly citing references can be a real pain. However, there are several templates you can use for making neat citations (and explanations on how to use them) at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, Wikipedia:Template messages/Sources of articles#Examples, Category:Citation templates, and Wikipedia:Template messages/Sources of articles/Citation quick reference (the most concise). - ʈucoxn\^talk 12:53, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. I think the anon editor above (IP: 172.14.57.185) was talking about that page. You can see that the anon editor only wanted to make a redirect to a foreign language wiki article, something that I think is outside WP policy. Anyway, the article had to be deleted to be moved. Re International School of Project Management: the rule book says very clearly that anybody, including the article's author may remove a prod tag and once it has been removed, it must not be put back. The talk page message was inaccurate: you did not second the prod - you reinstated it. Seconding a prod is the use of the {{prod2}}. I didn't take the International School of Project Management article to AfD simply because I'm hesitant to open one of those discussions. I don't want to build a history of proposing/starting deletions that get denied, as happened here. Hi Ajayupai95, Although I would like to read it, I unfortunately have not read the book and don't have access to it at my local library, which is rather small. There are several content issues in the article that someone who has read the book should fix. Articles for deletion

Hi, regarding your comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edit (application), I found that too be a bit uncivil (eg: does the nominator have something against historical Apple software) I actually found all the articles at once from at link at the Edit article. It was already tagged for notability and I could not find anything for it. You can prove me wrong without those fairly uncivil comments, by adding reliable sources and addressing my concerns in the article (thanks for starting to do that according to your recent response). I must agree with you and I removed those comments. I did not intend to be uncivil. It might have helped had you explained in your AfD nomination that you found all the articles at once from at link at the Edit article. Suwa FC

Hi. Think you might have made a couple of errors in the move here. Firstly the move itself should not have been made as it is not, as you would have been I formed when attempting the move, uncontroversial since both the old and new files show the spelling of the club to be Suwa not Suva. Just because they are from Suva doesn't mean the club would be spelled the same way, particularly as Ws and Vs are readily interchanged in pronunciation.

The second issue is with the logo you have substituted. Firstly there is no indication that that is a more up to date logo and from the state of the image my first impressions would be that it is probably not. Secondly there is a technical issue with the fair use rationale you have added. You state the source of the image is another wiki but this image does not have a correct fair use rationale as it does other state from where the original image has come from.

I'm not saying your changes were wrong but they are currently unsourced and contradictory to the images supplied. Also you need to update the f.u.r. Fenix down (talk) 22:34, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

I think the "Suwa" logo was either a well-intentioned graphic editor's mistake or a hoax. Either way, I live in Suva and the updated graphic is what I see on shirts here. Some new looking graphics (here and here) appear on facebook pages (here and here) but I don't know that those graphics are the official logo. Well it certainly seems that that logo is the correct one. I was surprised at such a simple logo, but weltfussballarchiv is usually quiet reliable. I wonder whether we can use the facebook link as the source for the image (which is clearer than the current upload and in colour). It appears to be an official page, and to be honest I can't see many questions over reliability being raised. Who would do a fake page?! Maybe it would be better for you to replace the current image with the first one above that just shows the logo alone and to alter the f.u.r. so it points to the facebook page. I understand. I'd like to ask some people (again, I live in Suva) to see if the images on the Facebook pages are really the official logos being used on shirts. Unfortunately, the majority of Fiji professional association football teams have not put their own crests on their game jerseys for several years; the Fiji Football Association logo and sponsors logos appear on jerseys now but team crests and logos appear on fan shirts -- Labasa F.C. is an exception because of their strong fan base. Lots of these so called "Official" Facebook pages are not sanctioned by the team -- this is a phenomena in many developing countries and I wouldn't be surprised it the above referenced pages were hoaxes, as such. Hi again. I noticed your fine copyedits, but there's one item I'd like to check with you additionally. You changed "Krbava Polje" to "Krbava Field". Even though Croatian word "polje" indeed translates into English as "field" and some sources do term the area as "Krbava Field", this is somewhat different situation. Polje is a term in English as well, denoting karst plains - such as the Krbava Polje/Field. I was unsure which term to use as both are found in sources and even though polje is a valid term in this specific situation, I was concerned that the term might be too "scientific" in this, arguably non-geological article. Thanks for keeping an eye on my copyedits. I took a moment of reflection when I make that change, even looking up the Battle of Krbava Field as well as the translation of Polje as a karst field. As someone knowledgable on the subject, do you think the activities on 7 August 1995 on Krbava Polje were at the same location as the 9 September 1493 Ottoman battle? Another option (and better, I believe), would be to keep the term "Krbava Polje" and the wikilink to Krbava but make it read "approaching from the opposite side of the Krbava Polje (Croatian: Polje or karst field)" (which is "approaching from the opposite side of the [[Krbava|Krbava {{lang|hr|Polje}}]] ({{lang-hr|[[Polje]]}} or [[karst|karst field]])"). (Also, note that the link for karst field redirects to polje.) This copyedit notes that "polje" is an English and a Croatian word (I think it's indeed a pan-Yugoslav word). I don't think it's poor editing to add this bit of geology/geography to a military history article, especially since it would now be part of a translation; in fact some military operations enthusiasts might be interested to know that part of the campaign was fought on land like other poljes. I'm not quite sure how to handle the polje/field issue - when I opted for one writing the article, I had to choose something but I was far from certain what would be the best solution. I'd prefer a simple solution but I cannot honestly say which one should it be. As far as the 1493 battle is concerned, yes that's the same geographic area (mind you, the Krbava Field covers 67 square kilometers, and exact spot of the 15th century battle is anybody's guess).--Tomobe03 (talk) 14:07, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Regarding "Lička Kaldrma" mentioned in the 8-14 August 1995 section, is this the town/village of Kaldrma (translation: network of paved roads) with a population of about 30 in the Lika region? Ideally, there should be at least one wikilink here since this is the first/only time the town is mentioned in the article, if it's a notable town. Actually, the village's the same, except that its name was changed from Lička Kaldrma to just Kaldrma at some point between 1995 and 2013. Not sure when though. There's nothing spectacularly important about the village, except its position on the border (see: hr:Kaldrma) is where the specific unit noted in the article reached the border.--Tomobe03 (talk) 02:28, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

user blocked while an adoptee

Re: Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Banaticus, I was rather upset with what happened to Darkfire. 1) When he got into trouble I felt he should have asked me for help instead of going and smashing his head against a wall. Just be calm. 2) I felt that the person who blocked him should have come and said something to me instead of indef blocking him -- he had an adoptee message on his page and obviously he needed more guidance. I was trying to provide that, but 3) I can't possibly oversee every edit an adoptee makes, especially when they don't bother to let me know ahead of time what edits they're making and don't bother sharing when they get into trouble. I have a job, at the time I was also enrolled in college classes -- I can't watch a person's edits 24/7 or generally even watch edits as frequently as every few days. If an inability to provide constant unceasing overwatch means that I shouldn't be an adopter any more, well I stopped adopting quite a while ago. Banaticus (talk) 13:52, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

I added 9 templates. Here is my rationale for each (Stating "I believe" is a way of expressing my interpretation of the article and the article creator's username — reasonable people can certainly differ on their interpretations of such things.):

1. {{refimprove}} - Added because I believe that there are "some, but insufficient, inline citations to support the material currently in the article".
2. {{coi}} - Added because I believe the "article is biased or has other serious problems as a direct result of the editing done by the subject of the article or a person with a close connection to the subject". Specifically, I believe the article creator is "professional public relations staff" for the subject.
3. {{pov}} - Added because I believe the article lacks a WP:Neutral point of view.
4. {{disputed}} - Added because I believe the I believe the article creator was acting on behalf of the subject and may have added factually inaccurate content.
5. {{BLP sources}} - Added because this is an articles about a living person and I believe it "need[s] additional references, and [is] therefore in need of immediate attention."
6. {{original research}} - Added because I believe the article creator was acting on behalf of the subject and added unreferenced information, like for example "Since 1999, he was not directly involved in politics."
7. {{recentism}} - Added because I believe this article places "undue emphasis on recent events" — indeed, it was likely originally written at this time because the subject is a candidate for an upcoming election.
8. {{unbalanced}} - This template adds articles into Category:Articles needing more viewpoints. It was added because I believe the article creator was acting on behalf of the subject and added unbalanced information, in favor of the subject. I believe the article could benefit from additional viewpoints.
9. {{uncategorized}} - Added because the article had no categories. Demiurge1000 added Category:Pakistani politicians here and rightfully removed that template.

You can certainly be WP:BOLD and remove whatever templates you want — this is wikipedia. Indeed, Demiurge1000 removed a few and I don't intend to revert those edits. I do not expect you to respond here to each, or any, of my comments.

My description of Richard Ingle was meant to be constructive

My contribution of giving a description to Richard Ingle on Ingle_(surname) was NOT vandalism. The book written about him is subtitled "Maryland Pirate and Rebel". See the first page: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/26958/26958-h/26958-h.htm

It seems odd Richard Ingle is the only Ingle on that page that has no description. If you look at the history, he plundered Maryland, so I think "pirate" is a very accurate description. If you want to water it down, you could just say he was a "colonial seaman and privateer", but that's lame IMO. Please reconsider your edit here.

Hello Rauzaruku. The prose in those articles could use some serious work. Also, (not including the lists) they're 3921 words and 2818 words, respectively; which means that each article would likely take me more than an hour to copyedit up to the GA standard. You did the right thing by listing them at the WP:GOCE requests page. It also looks like you already asked APerson to do the copyedit, which was accepted here and I don't appreciate being the second/backup person requested to do this. I'll try to get to it but I rarely take personal copyediting requests. Hi. I will start working on the Thiago Pereira article after September 1, if someone else hasn't already claimed it. It looks like nobody has yet removed the duplicate links from the César Cielo article. The Thiago Pereira article also has several duplicate links (including to Michael Phelps, which is linked twice in the header section -- sloppy). You can find the duplicate links with the tool found here: User:Ucucha/duplinks. I strongly suggest that you remove the duplicate links in both articles. In this part of Wikipedia's Manual Of Style it says: "Generally, a link should appear only once in an article, but if helpful for readers, links may be repeated in infoboxes, tables, image captions, footnotes, and at the first occurrence after the lead." Federated

Meaning of a federated athlete, in Brazil = Person / thing that is federated, united in confederation. One who is part of a federation. I don't know if the United States use another term, when the athlete begins to participate in championships defending a club or a state / national federation or something. It's like "it's no longer an amateur, is defending anything official, and he is receiving money, cost assistance, support, stay and study" I just don't know exactly how to explain, if he is defending his club or a federation of a Brazilian state, as an American was defending Florida or Texas or any other state. Rauzaruku, before reading this article I had never seen the term "federated" used in this way before. Usually, the words "confederated" and "federated" are used when talking about a government. I also looked it up in google and only found Spanish and Portuguese related websites using the term related to athletes. Can you point me to a Portuguese language page about athletics that uses the term "federated" (when translated into English)? We'll try to get the correct English term from that. Well, CBDA (the high level Brazil's organ in terms of swimming) is the Brazilian CONFEDERATION of Aquatic Deports. The words "federation" or "confederation" are widely used in Brazil in the case of any state or national sports association. It is a designation used for government agencies of the Brazilian country or Brazilian states, like "Brazil Federation of Tennis" or "Rio de Janeiro Federation of Water Polo". GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation

December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page! The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December. Not going to be cleared...

Hi Tucoxn, looks like never going to reach the goal of clearing the backlog... an experienced editor (11 years, 360K+ edits) is protecting their own articles on the Rongorongo text in a way that to me seems crazy. Articles written Feb 2008, images deleted from commons June 2008 - so the images were up for 4 months and been unavailable for 5.5+ years, yet every removal promptly reverted. I challenged why they were defending such old dead links [1] and all I got was "As a reminder they need to be restored"! I agree that they look like desirable images, but if there simply are no 'free' images available then it's just pointless and makes the articles look crappier. I googled for a while but couldn't even identify copies of the images in non free source, so I assume just in books. Oh well — KylieTastic (talk) 12:18, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
