Thank you

You do come up with some creative ways to say your appreciations. I first saw that and thought it was a science fiction quote. I have been having wiki "nightmares" the past few days. It has been getting me down. This post yesterday also was wonderful to see. Thank you. Bgwhite (talk) 07:49, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Namàste, dearest Tito, how are you? Here it's too cold, but I hope Spring will come soon!

It's a long time I don't make new page in Wiki.en.: that's it! I ask, please, 5 minutes of your time to read and correct my mistakes in this short page.

Thanks a lot for your precious help!

Namaste

A random hello! Are you by any means involved with the Wikimedia India Chapter and are you attending this years Wikimania? Can we talk via email if that's all right. Sorry for the out-of-no where drop in. Samar Talk 10:01, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

  • I am not much involved (in real life) with Wikimedia India/Kolkata. I was thinking for Wikimania but have not decided anything yet. I tried to apply for scholarship, but could not submit form due to error. I have mailed them. I'll see if I can find out anyone who has excellent first hand knowledge about this project. TitoDutta 17:40, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Sure, thanks. Samar Talk 18:45, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

March GOCE copyedit drive

Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors

The March 2014 backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles in need of copyediting. The drive begins on March 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on March 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copyedit all articles tagged in December 2012 and January 2013 and to complete all requests placed in January 2014. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copyedits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: number of articles, number of words, number of articles over 5,000 words, number of articles tagged in December 2012 and January 2013 and the longest article. We hope to see you there!

Wikimania

Tito, I've just seen your conversation with Bgwhite. Here's the deal: you put in for that scholarship and if you get it then I'll make bloody well sure that I come down from Manchester for a meet-up. I'll buy you a meal if needs be - we can't have excellent contributors missing out just for the sake of a few bucks. Ok, I may not be able to hear you on the day but you can always satisfy the desire of many of your countrymen by punching me in the face or whatever! - Sitush (talk) 17:30, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

And if it is USD24 for your passport then I'm happy to fund that. No big deal. - Sitush (talk) 17:57, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
  • (edit conflict) @Sitush: Thank you. I was trying to know the people from my known and reliable circle who are going to join. If there are some guys we may go for a group presentation. I have submitted a presentation. I have just started preparing it. If you are going to be there, we may go for a better/another presentation. You may lead the presentation, I don't care about it. I have few ideas—
Presentation topic
(rough title)
Short details
"An introduction to the very own characteristics and problems of WikiProject India" You know there are many issues (specially religion, province and caste related articles) where you need some basic knowledge on India and WikiProject India to handle issues. What are the issues etc.
"Wikipedia as a Messiah for India and our responsibility" Unlike Western countries' topics and subjects, we know Indian topics sources are not so much available in the web. There are MANY topics where Wikipedia has become almost the only online guide. I sometimes see people even get redirected to Wikipedia from Google to learn about "hospital's contact details", "police stations", "competitive exams" etc. But these are never recommended! Our articles on IAS, IBPS, are very much backdated.
So, how Wikipedia is opening a new horizon for Indian free knowledge? What are the advantages, disadvantages etc?

You may suggest any other topic and let's go for it. It'll be excellent. TitoDutta 18:00, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

I stumbled upon this conversation and then read the thread at Bgwhite's page as well. I do not know about the scholarship grant process, so cannot comment on that. However, as Sitush has gracefully offered to help out if needed, count me in that, too. If you need some assistance, I'll feel privileged to be of use.
However, I may not be able, due to work pressure in real life, to help in the presentation. Regarding the passport processing time (and then the visa processing time, which should not be much lengthy though), make sure you try to get the information on how long does it take to have a new passport. If that is too lengthy (say, two months), you'll need to apply in tatkaal category. That would cost more (I guess around $60).
I genuinely feel you should attend Wikimania and present there. Please be in touch with others in Indian wikimedia chapter. Jayantanath can help you with getting in touch with the honchos, if you are not in contact with anybody. You are one of the few wikipedia editors residing in India who really do enhance the content in WP:EN. So, you'd be a very good representation of WP:EN content editors from India. --Dwaipayan (talk) 01:34, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
  • @Dwaipayanc:, I should apply within a few days. I am not much optimistic. I have posted in Tinu Cherian's and Jayantanath's talk pages. I don't know who else to write. And I am personally very much reluctant to ask. Are you coming there at London? --TitoDutta 02:04, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
  • No I am not going there. I could not even attend it last time when it was in Washington DC. I think you better email those people. Jayanatanath, Tinu, and perhaps Karthik Nadar, Bishdatta (although I am not sure about the latter's role now, perhaps Jayantanath can confirm) for guidance.
  • Yes, apply for passport ASAP. And again, ask about the expected time of processing. You should definitely apply for visa by early July (latest) for the early August conference dates.--Dwaipayan (talk) 02:21, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
Tatkal passport should take less than 7 days (I got my name corrected on my passport in less than 7 days), the new Passport seva kendra are really good. Get an appointment online today also unlike the US Visa, UK visa processing is bit easy. All the best. -sarvajna (talk) 04:43, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
Email me, Tito. I'm not sure if India has any restrictions on currency movements, for example. Also, ask at WT:INB to see if anyone else is going. I can probably help with suggestions for what to raise in a presentation but with my hearing as it is, I have very little control over my voice levels + I tend to stumble over things when the tinnitus is bad (which means more or less permanently at the moment because the hearing aids help mask that issue). - Sitush (talk) 08:22, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
  • User:Netha Hussain and User:Karthikndr are quite active off-wiki in India Chapter's work. They might be going too or would at least know who else is going. They both can also drop emails on some emailing lists i guess. (I suppose not everyone can. I have replied to one of those emails i received from mailing list and got no reply or anything. Maybe they censored it.)   §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 11:05, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Nizar Habash

Hi Tito - (1) You said: "Thank you for your submission, but the subject of this article already exists in Wikipedia." But there is no such article on Dr. Nizar Habash on Wikipedia.

(2) You asked for more citations, etc. But there are other articles of people in similar status as Dr. Habash with the same number of citations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Collins_(computational_linguist).

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.59.245.95 (talk) 17:30, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Article for creation

Hello Tito! I was hoping you could help me. I have a previously written article on the bonded labor expert and activist Siddharth Kara and have just created an article on another activist in bonded labor and prison reform, Rani Dhavan Shankardass. I would ask one of the users who have assisted me and reviewed my pages in the past, but they don't seem to be active anymore. Please could I trouble you to review the article and provide your feedback? Thank you so much! Martinjonson (talk) 10:44, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Rudra john cena claims here that you ar his brother and that you have been sharing an account. This is a serious issue so could you please comment on it. Thanks. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:14, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

  • Brother/sister (to unknown /newly known people) is a common Indian salutation. It is like "friend" in the western countries. I don't know him. --TitoDutta 02:22, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I guessed that's what he probably meant - I've lived and worked in India and it's the same here in Thailand too. Thanks for the clarification. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:21, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Tito, why don't you call me brother? You said it was customary to call people #($*@( and &($*@?@!, which is why you call me that. Hmmmmm. Bgwhite (talk) 05:57, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Oh really Bgwhite !..... Ok Tito from next time I will surely call you this #(¢¥€@( instead calling you brother. Hahaha. Jim Cartar (talk) 21:24, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

AfC

Hello there, I had observed that you have included a notice in this AfC draft. I deeply appreciate your point of view. But there is a catch, after you added the notice I took a quick search with all the possible terms to address the subject. Unfortunately I haven't found any results. I have also gone through the category Indian History to find similar articles, but it is not there. And you suggested to change the Articles name. Can you please provide me some reasons for why should the reviewer must change the name of the article. It will be pretty helpful for both me and the reviewer if you mention some reasons. Thank you for the help. Jim Cartar (talk) 21:33, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
