Concerning Nostalgia, Ultra edit

I had some free time and I wanted to work on the Nostalgia, Ultra article, perhaps to promote it go GA status. Mostly out of boredom and because I really love Frank's music. But I can't really do anything with the article because of all the Nostalgia, Lite information.

I propose that since the EP has been indefinitely delayed, the article should be only about the original mixtape, and it should mention the planned EP in the article itself. I don't know though... you're the main contributor on the article. Bruce Campbell (talk) 21:10, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

For what it's worth to you, the article is now a GA, and you have a majority of the credit for that. Bruce Campbell (talk) 00:31, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

February 2012 edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Goodies (album). Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Please note that the edit you are reverting is not WP:Vandalism. Toddst1 (talk) 20:53, 1 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 3 days (multiple instances of edit warring ) for edit warring, as you did at Goodies (album). Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Toddst1 (talk) 23:19, 2 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Teflon Peter Christ (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

This block seems unwarranted. I made a talk page post for the IP user (who was not blocked) to make his case for his controversial change, which he was aware of and did not, continuing to make the controversial change. I even asked several other editors to comment there, getting one response. Then, after Toddst1 warns both of us of our edit war, I try to explain this to him. Afterwards, some genre warrior makes an unexplained genre change (as were all of this user's edits to other articles) to the Goodies article. So I ask Toddst1 whether I can revert this vandalism (his talk page), but he doesnt give me a clear answer. I would have backed off he said no, even though this was a different user I was reverting, and it didnt seem to be within a 24 hour period. But three days? Seriously? The IP didnt even get blocked. Hell, I was the one who reported him to WP:AVI to begin with. BUT, I do realize that the overriding of the IPs edits, back and forth, the past week was warring, and the block would have been justified. But I was not blocked after that, but after reverting the genre change. So I would not have been blocked had I left it alone? Dan56 (talk) 06:15, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

You were edit warring on the article, over a period of about three weeks. Wikipedia's policy on edit warring is, essentially "don't edit war", not "don't edit war unless you are right". Toddst1 gave a perfectly clear answer, which is that he/she can't give you permission to continue the edit war. I don't understand why you think that is unclear, nor why you seem to imagine that an editor can give permission to another editor to continue edit warring. I can only echo the following comment that Toddst1 made: "It sounds like you don't know what an edit war is", which, considering your past history, is astonishing. Considering your past history of numerous blocks for edit warring over a period of just under four years, I find a three day block surprisingly minimal, and I certainly see no case at all for reducing it. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:44, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

For your information, a few words about two things you mentioned in your unblock request, but which were irrelevant to that request. Whether the IP editor should have been blocked has no bearing on your block: have you ever read WP:NOTTHEM? I see no reason to see your last edit to the article ("reverting the genre change") as relevant one way or the other, but if you are interested in knowing whether that influenced the decision then you will have to ask the blocking admin after the block has expired. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:44, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I read the lead of WP:Edit war, and it says it's when editors dispute over content. My reverting of the genre warrior's change is seperate from the content with the other editor, where I opened a forum for consensus at the article's talk page and he refused to follow. WP:Edit war also says "There are certain exemptions to 3RR, such as reverting vandalism", and I thought one of numerous genre warrior edits are vandalism. Had the dude that blocked me not been so stiff and just replied "yes" or "no", I would not have made the last revert, and I would not have been blocked. I tried to take it to the talk page, and it wasnt that blatant reverting the IP. He would show up like once every four or five days, before it turned into warring and I tried to take it to the talk page. Dan56 (talk) 21:38, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
And was is it with this attitude that I have a serious history with edit warring. It comes up like once a year when some amatuer make some dubious edits or vandalism, and I admittingly go a little overboard, but I've done ridiculously far more good than bad. I reported the IP after he was unwilling to even look at the talk page/consensus idea, and I'm the one that's blocked for reverting an unconstructive edit seperate from the content in the edit war, made by a different editor. When I said it wasnt clear what Tod said, I meant about his response "I can't give you permission." I thought he was either telling me I shouldnt or it wasnt up to him, like he isnt someone with that kind of authority. Doesnt any of this seem reasonable? Re: Comment on my proposed changes? edit

Wasn't me... just a user that recognizes the effort people do for GAs. (though in Wasting Light's case, he must have only looked at the editcount, as you have 96 edits but I'm the one who expanded, nominated, and did the GA requests) Did a short comment on 21, as I also can't understand as well why that editor disregards your additions - it's not bloating, misleading or anything. May the Force be with you, hope that one will be solved. I have no idea how to post links but I'm telling you they do say at the Mobo's that it sold over 17 million albums. Unfortunatly I can't post link to it but I was hoping you could as you know how to post links clearly. Just type in Amy winehouse mobo awards tribute. They are talking about back to black as Frank did not sell 7 million albums worldwide which it would have to in order for B2B to have only sold over ten thanks.--Mossty (talk) 19:43, 12 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean I can't be serious that was what they said at a major awards ceremony. Who are we to say its all bollocks --Mossty (talk) 23:05, 12 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Its actually something that was said at a major awards ceremony. I very much doubt that the presenter just said it off the bat it would have been whoever wrote that speech. Second the forbes magazine could just be making an estimate that it sold over 10 million albums worldwide, its been said in a number of magazine's since 2008 that back to Black had sold over ten million albums worldwide I will look and provide you with another source to that. So that clearly proves that Forbes magazine is wrong as it was published in 2011. Are you seriously telling me that Back to Black would not have sold at least one million in the four years since all over the world especially in the fuss around her death. Third even if they were beefing Amy up it would be quite a big deal to go from over ten million to seventeen million (pretty random number to pick out of the air) plus it is known that Frank did not sell even close to over 7 million albums worldwide which it would have too in order for Back to Black to have only sold over ten million albums worldwide. Face facts Back to Black has clearly sold more than 10 million and this tribute which clearly a lot of thought was put into (they got Dionne to sing picked one of Amy's lesser known songs) gives us a rough estimate of what it is.--Mossty (talk) 23:22, 12 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

It is not conjecture the facts back it up also if there is something that contradicts what has been written on this page like that source does surely you can't ignore it. It was said at one of the most respected prestigious awards ceremonies it can't just be dismissed as something a rabid Amy Winehouse fan said on the streets. Just because you trust forbes more how is that not conjecture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mossty (talkcontribs) 23:52, 12 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dan I thought we went over this... The albums second half is Eurodance and is cited my an unlimited amount of sources. But since you were so adement about not including it we decided on electronic dance. So why do you keep switching it back to just "dance"?--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 22:39, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Because if half the album is Eurodance, it should be included in the infobox, I'm not here for misleading people... Simply changing the genre to dance does not reflect the true genre of the album--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 22:46, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thats WP:NOR and thats not allowed, you can say what you want, but the sources disagree--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 01:03, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Whoops, I just remembered that I had sourced them into the infobox, so you should be able to find it in the "view history" section. I'm going to start to expand the article and make the composition section, and I just don't want it to be weird when half of the songs say "eurodance", "europop", "eurodisco" in the composition section, and then they see "hip hop, pop, dance" in the info box. Thats why I wanted to add in electronic dance, since all those fall under that, it would give a bit more a fair representation, know what I mean?--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 01:19, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Then you musnt of checked the right ones... Since you know on wikipedia, if it is sourced that an album is 50% of a genre, it can be added in. Look at the sources and youll see "shifts into the eurodance half" "then for the second half Minaj relies on Gaga esque Europop"--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 01:22, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Mixtapes/Compilations edit

I'm actually well aware that mixtapes aren't really compilations. Especially these days with up and coming rappers and R&B singers' careers in limbo, they release mixtapes to stay relavant. However, in Template:Infobox album, the green color, (which is used for compilation albums) is also used for mixtapes in default, with greatest hits albums, box set albums and remix albums as well. Generally all of them categorized as compilations: "Category:(Year) compilation albums". These days, the main album category (Category:(Year) albums) is only used for studio albums now. Perhaps a discussion should be started about this Mixtapes/Compilations issue, what do you think? QuasyBoy (talk) 19:01, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Re:Audio samples edit

The policy guideline you cite explicitly points to 64kbps as a suitable quality. Having just under 100 isn't the worst crime in the world, but as the article has been nominated at GAC, everything really needs to be done properly. J Milburn (talk) 20:36, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

If something is "usually" done, it's up to you to justify why your samples should not be treated in that way, not up for me to argue that they should. You ask me whether "30 more kilo-whatevers [creates] a potential copyright issue"- I don't know, I'm not a lawyer. I assume it's a somewhat arbitrary line-in-the-sand; from what I know about music production, it seems a fair one, as the lowest rate worth listening to; as I'm sure you know, the non-free content criteria require minimal extent of use- not just "a bit lower than it was before". We need as low as we can go without compromising the usefulness of the content. So- what is it that those 30 extra whatevers are adding to the article, and why are they needed in this case when they would not be normally? J Milburn (talk) 20:46, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks; I appreciate how it can look like uploading non-free content is an excercise in hoop-jumping. J Milburn (talk) 20:55, 10 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

re: Channel Orange edit

I think the rule of thumb is generally that if an album's title is stylized, there should be a note in the lead mentioning that, and that the rest of the article uses the most simple version, ie. Channel Orange. But I'm not really an expert on that, though I think channel ORANGE would look awkward. Also, I've just been screwing around with some of his older song articles, if you need any help with the Channel Orange article, I'd offer my assistance. New message:smithclark15 edit

Hello, I am the one who made those recent edits to the article "4 (Beyonce Knowles album)". I belong to an internet forum called atrl.net Many Beyonce fans commune there. The point is, "End of Time" was never released as a single in the United States, and only in the United Kingdom. Many people in her fanbase were expecting a US release, but it never materialized. I can give you my word that this happened. It should be pretty obvious considering that there have never been any American radio updates for that song.

Most, importantly, I feel that article should only highlight songs that were released as single in the US and worldwide. Songs released as singles only in certain countries should not be highlighted. "I Care" was an Italian single. "I Was Here" was an Australian single. Those are not highlighted. "End of Time" is only a UK single and therefore should not be highlighted. "Run The World (Girls)", "Best Thing I Never Had", "Countdown" and "Love On Top" are all US/worldwide singles and should be left there. Thank you! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smithclark15 (talkcontribs) 21:22, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

re: WHAT THE F@CK?!?!?!! edit

Actually you're the one who needs to learn how to read. As mentioned in that hatnote discussion YOU started, another editor noted "The music naming guidelines are overly brief, but yes, they don't include the qualification with an article: "When necessary, disambiguation should be done using "(band)", "(album)", or "(song)". Unless multiple albums [or songs, one assumes] of the same name exist (such as Down to Earth), they do not need to be disambiguated". There is more than one song called Window Seat, thus SOMETHING is needed and since a simple hatnote is the personification of evil to you, this is the only other solution. --TheTruthiness (talk) 15:45, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

There ALWAYS are, eh? 1 Again, you need to work on your reading/comprehension skills. 1) It's not out of date, the fact that Down to Earth (song) is a dabpage is proving the point (note it includes 3 songs without their own article), and WP:NCM doesn't include the qualification with an article. --TheTruthiness (talk) 15:57, 19 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Rhythm Killers edit

You're acting as if what I am doing is a bad thing and that a "C" is a bad assessment. I assess purely on content, not additional criteria which is required to be checked to receive even a B-Class rating. Based on the criteria for albums listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Assessment#Quality scale, the article obviously deserves a "C"-class rating right now and, for a brand new article, that is excellent. Most articles begin as "stubs", some get off to a good "start" with some decent info. I'm not blindly assessing anything; I looked at and read the article. It is very well done and I wish you the best in having it reach "GA" status. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:05, 21 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Why I changed it from 2011 to 2010, was simply due to common sense. The song was released on the 4th of October, 2010. So of course it can't be recorded in april/march of 2011.

Re: ¡Uno! edit

Sorry I didn't explain my intentions. Anyways, the reason I did that was is because drum/guitar techs, managment and coordinators don't have anything to do with the making of the album, so they shouldn't be listed. And I forgot that Billie Joe did the front cover photo, so I re-added that. And I was also trying to clean the personnel up a bit, because Billie Joe shouldn't be listed as composer in the personnel section, and I thought just listing all the performers and then the technical personnel would be easier and would stop this whole Jason being an official member or not. I was actually trying to improve things. --BLAguyMONKEY! (talk) 10:42, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reviews edit

We have a long standing consensus to abide by the wider Wikipedia consensus to turn lists into prose - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Moving infobox reviews into article space. I checked that the contemporary reviews (which is what the Reception section is about) were all in the Reception section, and so removed those from the infobox, and moved that box, which now contains all legacy reviews into the Legacy section. SilkTork ✔Tea time 21:12, 30 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

At some point someone will hopefully check that the important legacy reviews are turned into prose and so the remains of the infobox can then be removed completely. SilkTork ✔Tea time 21:13, 30 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

By infobox, you mean the ratings template, right? If that's the case, then while it's not mandatory, it's a supplement, and quality articles usually have illustrations in them; wouldnt the template serve as one? The aim is to summarise the reviews in prose. Read through Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Moving infobox reviews into article space. This is a long standing consensus. We first moved the ratings from the infobox into a standalone ratings box as part of the process, knowing that it would take a while to convert the links into prose. We didn't want to lose the information by doing away with the links entirely, so the ratings box was intended as a stop gap measure. What I did in Thriller, was ensure that the contemporary reviews were all summarised, and then moved the box into the Legacy section as the remaining links are all to legacy reviews - that is, those reviews which were not contemporary with the release, but are summarising the album's legacy - its importance as seen in retrospect. Apology edit

I apologize for the tone I took and the language I used in my response to you the other day. I will not attempt to excuse my behavior, but merely say that I was dealing with another situation at the same time that I was typing my response to you, and I allowed my frustration to show. As I say, it is no excuse. The topic of genres in regard to Tom Waits has come up so many times before, usually when someone changes them without discussion, and it has grown tedious. What I would like to do is have a centralized discussion somewhere, rather than discussing it on each album's talk page, which seems needlessly repetitive. I hope we can work something out. Cheers. ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 19:47, 16 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi there edit

Seeing as you voraciously edit music articles, I wanted your opinion on something. For critical reviews of music singles, is it necessary that only an article, with heading as "review of song XXX" is acceptable? Because I have seen many single articles which are GA/FA, take the review from articles which might be interviews, or production info of the artist/song/album. I had always thought that the reputation and reliability of the publisher is taken into consideration right? —Indian:BIO · [ ChitChat ] 10:01, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Trilogy (The Weeknd album), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Remastering (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Unapologetic edit

Hey what's up? I was wondering, why did you removed the Billboard review from the article's Critical reception? With all the respect, I think you prefer the mixed/negative reviews. Maybe I have the wrong impression though. Cheers! — Tomíca(T2ME) 11:31, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I hate how the reviewers give mixed reviews only because of "Nobody's Business" :@, they only mention that one. Idiots. Thanks for the explanation though. But, why can't we have Billboard in the text? — Tomíca(T2ME) 12:54, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

We've been confused with an issue regarding the origins of alternative rock with another user and currently we are not able to reach a proper concensus. Our debate continues on our talk pages [1] [2] and unfortunately we're yet to carry on this debate on the talk page of alternative rock. Lotus Billboard review edit

Isn't kinda hypocritical when Taylor Swift's album Red has Billboard's positive review included in the wiki page (and other wiki pages of studio albums too). Also, since the ratings template is only for ratings, we should remove the review of New York Times right? "mixed" is not a review either.Chronisgr (talk) 14:09, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Vandal edit

I declined your block request [3], Just because there is not a reference does not make it vandalism. If the info added is clearly wrong, and you know it is wrong because you checked, then it is vandalism. Per WP:PROVEIT you can challenge and remove anything the believe is not true, with the burden of proof resting on the person who want to include the material. Some moderation should be used in the exercise of this rule. If you go around removing the "sky is blue" statements just because they don't have references... Climax (Usher song) edit

I don't want to be rude and quick fail the article, but it does not meet the GA criteria at all. I think big additional work is needed before submitting it at GAN. — Tomíca(T2ME) 22:45, 16 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The song was a lead single by Usher a lot of other information can be also found for it to be complete. Also The quotes are too long, the release and promotion is too short as is the commercial reception, and the references need additional work.— Tomíca(T2ME) 22:48, 16 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
The point is, you have to make the article look good, then nominated it. I can take it now and quickly fail it, right? And about the release history, try amazon and itunes, it can look a lot better. — Tomíca(T2ME) 22:55, 16 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Tinashe Edits edit

This has been discussed on the talk page for Tinashe, but a verified Twitter account is a reliable source. Other than that, there are only Instagram and Facebook posts, both of which are confirmed official from the verified Twitter page. Regardless, it states "as its only attribution is to self-published sources" which is incorrect. If you check the sources, a good majority of them are not written by Tinashe, but from verifiable sources such as MuuMuse.com, MTV Buzzworthy, LoveBScott.com, Tommy2.net, All Access Music, Elle Girl and VIBE. I don't think that the tag is necessary at all, seeing as none of those are self-published sources. Stunners (talk) 17:46, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

In regards to this change, both this ref and this one suggest that it was in fact released as a single, with a song called "Don't Worry" as its B-side. I Am RufusConversation is a beautiful thing. 14:33, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough. I knew Discogs was not the most reliable source, but it was the only other example of a possible release I could find. It just seems an unusually high chart position for an album cut. I Am RufusConversation is a beautiful thing. 14:47, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Also, as the Discogs reference comes with a picture of the CD itself, I'd presumed that this was more practical evidence suggesting that it had been released as a single. It would help if we knew someone with a copy. I Am RufusConversation is a beautiful thing. 14:54, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
