Khalid Bakdash and the Syrian Communist Party

Hi Soman, I asked Arre this and he didn't know, and then it occurred to me that you were an obvious next target. I've just been wondering if I was right in saying Khalid Bakdash was sec-gen of the Syrian Communist Party uninterruptedly from 1936 or whenever on, as I have seen some references to Farjallah Helou as sec-gen at the time of his murder. Do you have any way of checking whether he retained the position while in exile from 1958-66? Palmiro | Talk 13:50, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry, i'll have to pass on that one. --Soman 13:53, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Seven Party Alliance

Are these the seven parties mentioned here - Nepalese legislative elections, 1999 or something else? --Horses In The Sky 17:20, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

NC, NC-Democratic, CPN(UML), Janamorcha Nepal, NWPP, Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anand Devi) and United Left Front. --Soman 18:21, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
By Janamorcha Nepal do you mean Samyukta Janamorcha Nepal? If so doesnt that contradict articles saying it has merged with the Rashtriya Jana Morcha to form the People's Front, Nepal? --Horses In The Sky 19:17, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Well I've made a Seven Party Alliance page but have assumed the People's Front, Nepal is one of them, if this is incorrect you might want to amend it. --Horses In The Sky 10:35, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
PFN and Janamorcha Nepal are the same. --Soman 15:51, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Nepal Janabadi Morcha

I changed this to Nepal Democratic Front just like I changed a few other Nepalese parties to English titles recently because, due to naming conventions this is the way things tend tp be organised. For example the page is Communist Party of the Russian Federation not Kommunisticheskaya Partiya Rossiskoy Federatsiy, it just seems easily to understand this way. --Horses In The Sky 20:17, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

the policy is that titles should be in English, unless another name is more commonly used in English. Thus NJM, RPP, etc. should have their Nepali names, as Nepal is a country were English is widely used and those names are used in English language media. Its the same as Sinn Fein, Likud, etc., were the title is not translated to English. --Soman 06:15, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Well seeing as NJM etc never really get mentioned in British press I'll leave it like this until evidence can come up to support either name, I just thought it might be easier to understand this way. Meanwhile can you comment on this question raised here, Talk:Seven Party Alliance --Horses In The Sky 13:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Ok, after looking at those links you posted on that talk page you are probably right about NJM and RPP.--Horses In The Sky 14:23, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Erasures on Olof Palme page

Soman recently erased my factually correct passages with the explanation of (to my knowledge, no foreign state treated the Baltic SSRs as disputed territory. One could say that Petsamo and Kaliningrad are occupied territories as well, by same logic.)

Unfortunately this proves that Soman has not the simplest knowledge of the matter. In fact, the US announced already in July 1940, that they do not recognise the annexation de jure. [1] No democratic Western state did it ever since. Sweden recognised the annexation de fact and was nearing de jure recognition, but this does not change the matter. Thus, the Baltic SSRs have never legally existed (ex iniuria iuria non obiter, is it?). I've heard that in the US some maps were printed with the Baltics marked as a territories annexed by the USSR, without international recognition.

I'd be glad if User:Soman gave me his/her sources for the alternate view.--Constanz - Talk 15:16, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

I was unaware of the US decision. But, wherein lies the distinction between US line 'not to recognise annexation de jure' and recognising the annexation 'de facto'? --Soman 15:23, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
These terms are elementary. Also, no state except for Sweden (and, I wonder if also Finland) even recognised de facto. --Constanz - Talk 15:40, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
On legal aspects: there exists also principle ex factis ius oritur, not only ex iniuria iuria non obiter. Otherwise we would have to see as illegal almost all changes of borders happening as a result of war. And the independence of Baltic states was restored in 1990-91 by Supreme Soviets of SSRs - modern Baltic states are heirs of these SSRs. On BalticSSRs - they were recognized by very many socialist countries. Aleksandrs Kuzmins 21:17, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Recent erasures of sourced material on Left_Party_(Sweden) [2]

  • If you find tone unsuitable, you are only permitted to change the wording. Since the beginning of dispute, first with User:Itake, then with User:Constanz, you have as well as exclusively erased whole passages.
  • There is no justification for removing accurate primary sources on Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.
  • Removing paragraphs depicting Swedish Communist Parties attitude to the Soviet aggression against the Baltic states can be regarded as whitewashing. Had I written it in Criticism section, you would have removed it with the pretext of the passages not fitting into the section etc.
  • From June 22, 1941 on, the party was actively supporting resistance struggles in Norway and Denmark. seems more correct than paragraph with no time specified: until the start of German-Soviet war, Western Communist Parties were not struggling against the Germans. This is the fact.
  • Removing passage on Swedish Communists' attitude to Stalin looks like whitewashing to me. The passage could be shortened, but not removed as a whole.
  • Criticism section has been disputed for a long time. Not a single time have you tried to edit the text there; its shortcomings have been a pretext for removing the critical materials as a whole (just as you have now done with Swedish communists attitude to the USSR matters).
    • Also, the disputed claims in Criticism section do have sources.--Constanz - Talk 15:37, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Added here:--Constanz - Talk 15:53, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

  • What are you doing? The Communist Party of Estland that emerged in 1990, existed only few months, and finished in 1991, and don't exist any more, and this was the same party, not some kind of different party than the "original" party.--£ 21:01, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
    • No, the original party was that which was founded in 1920. The 1990 party was founded by the pro-USSR minority when the split occured. The majority of the original EKP became EDTP. Also, I dispute the statement that the party would have been finished in 1991. For example it took sides in the 2001 SKP-KPSS split, and participated in 2005 & 2004 communist conferences in Athens. --Soman 07:26, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Nepal table

I have been trying to make an image to display all the changes in Communist parties in Nepal over the years and so far the best I got was this - [5]. Seeing as you know more about this than I was wondering if you could say A) Whether or not it is factually correct (I think it is) and B) Whether or not you think it is too messy to put on pages. Thanks. --Horses In The Sky 16:35, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Actually I just realised it is already incorrect as I put CPN (United) joining CPN (UML) along with CPN (Burma) when it should have been CPN (Amatya), oh well. --Horses In The Sky 16:38, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, its not an easy task you've undertaken. I think it looks very good. A few remarks. 1) The link between ANCCR(ML) and CPN(Pushpa Lal) might be incorrect. At the time the CPN was in a state of flux, but it might not be so that they belonged to Pushpa Lal's party. Rather the concerned district committee could have evolved as an autonomous unit from the main CPN. 2) Secondly, I'm not sure were to put NWPP. Rohit split from Pushpa Lal in 1971, but founded NWPP in 1976. Is NWPP to be considered as a split from Pushpa Lal? Not an easy case. 3) CPN(MLM) split in CPN(MLM) and NSP(Malema), reunified as CPN(UMLM). 4) CPN(Amatya) was technically the original CPN. --Soman 09:44, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
In terms of ANCCR(ML), I found this [6] which writes, In 1971, a radical peasant movement was organized by a section of the Party in Far Eastern part of Nepal called Jhapa district. The Jhapa movement created conducive environment to bring various revolutionaries from different parts of the country together and formed the All Nepal Communist Revolutionary Coordination Committee (Marxist-Leninist) in 1975.
When it writes a section of the Party it could be referring to CPN (PL) and the group is mentioned in the line before yet in that line it states Comrade Pushpa Lal formed a separate group in 1968 hoping to restore the unity and revolutionary activities of the Party so I assume the double reference to the Party (capitalized) makes it more likely to just be the original CPN. Horses In The Sky talk contributions
Yes, I agree. It was most probably not the PL party after all. --Soman 17:03, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Ok so after that I think the only unresolved issue you brought up appears to be the NWPP but I think they can be considered more a split from the CPN than the CPN (PL), so here is the latest version [7]. I think it is pretty understandable. Oh and I've changed it now so splits are shown by dashed lines whereas mergers/unifications are shown by solid lines. --Horses In The Sky 17:22, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

And you've visited Estonia recently?

Oh, you've been here again?[8] That's nice! Did you participate the demonstrations of opposing neo-Stalinists and nationalist demagogues near the occupants' memorial? I wonder if you, a world traveller, have seen such a memorial in the centre of another capital of a country, memorial dedicated to the occupying soldiers? If you have, please tell me! Anyway, hopefully you also took advantage of visiting the very interesting and commie-history related foundation I promoted a while ago! Some interest in Estonian communist politics has arisen in you at least! Regards, Constanz - Talk 17:48, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

I was actually about to ask you. The picture was taken back in 1998, I couldn't recall if it was taken in tallinn or riga. An interesting detail is that it appears that the inscriptions of the statue appears to have been removed. --Soman 19:18, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
You've got translation at my talk page. P.S. If you are a bit interested in certain parts of Estonian history, you better keep in mind that the monument you've chosen as your title image for Baltics is something like swastika to Jews. Your Baltic co-contributors may find it odd that their country collection is titled on your homepage by such a symbol instead of nice a independence memorial or tourist attraction! Constanz - Talk 15:53, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the translation. However, I think you misjudge the political context of the Guinea memorial. The 1970s was an extremly repressive period in Guinean history, in which entire ethnic groups were singled out as enemies of the state. The statue is erected not to far away from the city's main concentration camp (sort of an urban gulag). My intention of posting images at my userpage is not to glorify nor the opposite, but it is a arbitrary collection of images which each illustrate features of that country or its history. --Soman 08:12, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Right Honourable Constanz, please don't generalize. There are quite different opinions in Baltic states on their Soviet past. It's absurd to accuse the people for honouring monuments of anti-hitleric coalition that they are "neo-Stalinists and nationalist demagogues". And the term "ocupation" is not correct for Soviet power in Baltic states. See its definition in the CONVENTION RESPECTING THE LAWS AND CUSTOMS OF WAR ON LAND (Hague 1907), Art. 42 Aleksandrs Kuzmins 21:24, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Communist Party in Sweden

I’m not sure whether it is necessary to give the name of the party leader of the miniscule KPS, but if he should be named it should be the right person. I corrected the name, but you reverted it back to the wrong name. The party leader of KPS was called first secretary according to standard in many Albanian-leaning parties. The first secretary from 1982 into the nineties was AP, not GT. This could be verified by consulting the party’s magazine Kommunisten and other printed materials from KPS. - Brynolphus 03:19, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Ok, the good thing is that we now can clarify the title. What was the exact title (förstesekreterare?) in Swedish? --Soman 08:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

India

Hi Soman, I had reverted some additions by an anon user about Indian National Army to India. You have reverted them back. I would request you to go through the paragraph as a whole. The information seems out of context in the para.

Even though I have a lot of respect for Subhash Chandra Bose, a mention of Indian National Army may lead others to add a mention of many other freedom fighters who were just as important and played an equal role. Please consider reverting it again. -- Lost 13:24, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Problematic image uploads

  1. Two images you uploaded have been listed on WP:PUI, you cannot take a photo of a poster crop out bits and licence it under the GFDL. As a derivative work it can only be fair use.
  2. Galleries of fair use images are not a fair use. Please read WP:FU and WP:FUC to familiarise yourself with the requirements for fair use.
  3. These images eg. Image:Zcdua.jpg are not official party logos, they look like they have been taken from an elections result website, putting them in a table is not a fair use.

Once again, galleries or 7 images illustrating the same thing (like a political party) are not compatible with fair use, please desist.--Peta 03:35, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
To constitue/justify multiple fair use images all about the same organisation, those images need to be used in a context involving critical commentary and analysis, which was not the case on any of the articles where I removed images.--Peta 23:58, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

União dos Estudantes Comunistas

What do you think is the best translation of "União dos Estudantes Comunistas"? The present translation is Communist Students League. Do you find it correct? And the same for Young Communist League (Portugal). Why should we replace the word "Union" with "League" when translating? Thanks!

YCL is an English-language standard for communist youth leagues, just as UJC is in Latin languages. But perhaps UEC should be retranslated to 'union'. However, União and Union are not exactly the same in actual usage, and i wouldn't say that its entirely incorrect to translate to 'League' --Soman 13:35, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
It would be translated "League" if it was "Liga". That's my doubt. Perhaps Union would be better, but at the same time it has the syndicalist meaning. I don't know what to do. I'd translate "Young Communist League" as "Liga Jovem Comunista". Do you know any place where I can ask this question? Cheers! Afonso Silva 14:15, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

I seen that the OrphanBot tags logos, lacking source info, for deletion. re: Help with translation

Hi, I did the Finnish bit for you, but I'm afraid that Finnish is not a very straightforward language to translate because of all the agglutination. When affixes are added to words, the base forms often change a little, and it's not possible to know the word forms without actually knowing the language quite well. I managed to go around that in most of the cases in the list without making it sound artificial, but I'm afraid there's no way to do that for the first two and the last one - the affixes depend on the base form, and the base form may be changed slightly by the affixes. - ulayiti (talk) 08:40, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

most probably it will last at least 1-2 weeks until i start to produce articles in a systematic way. Anyways, thanks for help out and I'll get back if there are some additional words/sentences that i need translated. --Soman 10:26, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Political parties translation to PT

I've just added the ones I could translate. Portuguese has genders for "the", so I translated with masculine/feminine in places where the gender could be either. I currently don't know how to translate "Chairman", and I'm not sure how to translate the "Socialist International" and the "Liberal International", so it's mostly a guess. Hope this helps. --Phelan 21:55, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Hindi Translations

Hi Soman,

You have done good work, but there are a few problems. One of the problems I could find arose because of certain differences of Hindi with other languages. In Hindi, verbs have two forms (masculine and feminine) depending on the noun they qualify. So while the translation of "In the 2005 parliamentary election the party got 1000 votes." is "२००५ के संसदीय चुनाव में इस दल को १००० मत मिले ।", the translation for "In the 2005 parliamentary election the party got 3 seats." would be "२००५ के संसदीय चुनाव में इस दल को ३ सीटें मिलीं ।" (note the italics). This is because while the noun of "vote" in Hindi is masculine, that for "seat(s)" is feminine. The corresponding verb form is "(to) get". Since the sentence you provided was "In the 2005 parliamentary election the party got 1000 votes (1%, 3 seats).", I used the verb form of "(to) get" for "votes". — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 13:00, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Ripuarian/Kölsch translation (political Party)

Hi I completed the Kölsch (Ripuarian) translation today. See User talk:Soman/Lang-Help-ksh for additional comments. I did not want to take the risk to put it on the page User:Soman/Lang-Help-ksh so as to not break anything. I am sorry for not being able to find a genderless and numberless etc. wording for all messages. -- Purodha Blissenbach 15:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

San Marino

Ciao! yes I'm interested about San Marino politics and it's historical parties. Probably you are asking about what in english will sound like The Events of Rovereta if you are Italian like me, you can find the infos you are looking for, just checking this Page==>it:Fatti di Rovereta or on this website: [blacklisted link removed] anyway... was a kind of "golpe", not during the '60s or '70s but on 1957. will be really interesting to write about this on en.wiki now I've a question for you.... The following website: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/sm.html http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/5387.htm

as you can see are reporting that in English their People Nationality: Noun and adjective--Sammarinese .... so not San Marinese like reported in english wikipedia... so what we have do with the Parties name like San Mainese Communist Refondation and the others? Ciao! unfortunately I've no data aobut the Marxist Leninist Party of San Marino! soory! :(

Sardul Singh Caveeshar

You said there was a source on the talk page. Can you cite on the actual article?Bakaman Bakatalk 02:13, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

I noted you added your name to WP:NA

I note you added your name to Wikipedia:List of non-admins with high edit counts. You've got great editing/contributing experience and I liked the first dozen edits I reviewed. Have you been very active on the Wikipolicy end of things? Things like newpage reviews to identify potential articles for deletion, recent changes reviews to identify vandalism and spam? Also important to have followed the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship nominations for a short while. The current trend of reviewers for nominations use a reasonable count (somewhere around 500 Wikispace edits) in these areas as a measure of ones knowledge of Wikipolicy. Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 07:03, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

And just in case it wasn't obvious, I would be interested in nominating you for an admin role—if you’re interested in having me do so. But when nominated I do want you to be approved as Admin smoothly with no false starts. To do this, it is prudent to cover all the normal issues that have caught others before you. Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 07:09, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Pleased to see your positive response; I am impressed with your contributions. I'll analyze your potential RfA tomorrow this weekend (I've got to get on a plane tomorrow) and see if there is anything that jumps out that we want to work on before formally nominating you. Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 03:52, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Wow

Your pictures and article list are amazing. What is your profession? How have you had a chance to take all of these pictures? and thanks for sharing them.  :) 21:37, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Translation project?

Hey, didn't you start the translation project? What happened to it? We could use it a lot in the Bengali wikipedia, which currently lacks almost all the political party articles. Drop me a note if more help is needed with the translations. --Ragib 07:16, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

ohh, that's bad ... I was hoping to get the party pages automatically translated! Anyway, if you are using windows, you can enable Bangla rendering ... and may be type something too (phonetically) ... This link would give you the fonts and the typing manager. Similar things are available for Linux too. Thanks. --Ragib 08:31, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
PS, this gives a lot of Bangla fonts. However, you need to enable Bangla rendering (in XP, you should be fine if you have enabled other Indian languages). --Ragib 08:32, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

I noticed that Bengali was marked as incomplete in your lang-help page. It will be great if you could do the rest of the political party articles, when you have time. Thanks in advance. --Ragib 07:03, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Revolutionary People's Party

Hi, I'm readding Revolutionary People's Party to Secession in Turkey category if you don't have any objections.--Hattusili 05:54, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

putting old parties back in communist parties in u.s category

(1) What say we split the category in two: One for a category Current U.S. communist parties and one for a category Past U.S. communist parties, or something like that. (2) (1) was a nice way of trying to remind you that no one owns the categories or what goes in them or doesn't. It's childish for us to get into an edit-war over this, but I did extract the old parties from this category initially for clear reasons, not just on a whim. So please, the next time something like this is in threat of happening, I'd say it's a sign of more maturity to talk about it rather than just reverting constantly. 24.199.91.55 08:32, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Generally, borh existing and defunct parties are mixed in the Communist parties in... categories (see Category:Communist parties in India, Category:Communist parties in Nepal, Category:Communist parties in the Netherlands, Category:Communist parties in Portugal). However, a Category:Defunct communist parties in the United States could be created (in line with other Defunct political parties in... categories). That could be a subcat to both communist parties in the United States as well as historical political movements in the United States. --Soman 08:37, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

CGPI

Were they (CGPI) followers of Communist Albanian Party of Labour and Enver Hoxha? Clt13 05:01, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

The way I understand it, they belonged to the tendency led by Hardial Bains. The Bainsites were generally supporting Albania, but were a separate tendency parallel to the general pro-Albanian tendency. I'm not sure if there was any other pro-Albanian CP in India, but the Indian Hoxhaites gathered around the Indo-Albanian Frienship Association. --Soman 10:53, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Poor trade unions

I inform you that I put this tag on your work there : I've added the "prod" template to the article Trade Union Social Citizens List , suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk: Trade Union Social Citizens List . If you remove the dated prod template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

I'm sorry, because you seem to create plenty of pages about political parties, but please consider something about an encyclopedia. Notability is a good criterion, non notability leads one to disapprove your creation.

Does the FSB have a program, or a candidate, that is outstanding ? Is the place where they competed something special ? Trade union parties are worldwide and, yes, some did good job and this must be known. -- DLL .. T 20:09, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Excuse me, because an article once prodded - this is the case - can't be prodded again. I updated the Proposed deletion page about this ... Now do as you please but please try to answer to the point (notability). -- DLL .. T 21:14, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

"Legal formalities"

Please do not misrepresent my edits [14] [15]. The criteria for setting up a national political party are clearly outlined by the Federal Electoral Institute and are not negotiable. There are National political associations for smaller groups, but they are not "parties" on their own right and the vast majority are not notable enough to merit articles of their own. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 13:34, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

You have to differentiate two separate issues. IFE as a government entity has a task of carrying out registrations of political parties. They have certain criteria (probably politically motivated) for which organizations that are to gain that recognition. Those criteria are by no means necessarily linked to the criteria of political parties at wikipedia. Secondly, Mexico is a very sizeable country. To deny organizations that lack parliamentary representation an article at wikipedia would be highly deletionist. If you wish to delete articles, you are required to take up an AfD. Just changing to redirects is not feasible. --Soman 13:38, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Regardless of the alleged political motivations behind the IFE criteria, you have to understand these are the only, verifiable criteria we have at hand for Mexico. Moreover, national political associations do not have parliamentary association (did you read that article at all?) but regardless they are still mentioned in mentioned in the article and a list of those that had Wikipedia articles is provided. What you have to realize is that not every self-styled "communist" organization is notable, and if they don't even cross the threshold to become a NPA (or even a local political association, in each state) they are most likely not notable enough to deserve their own article. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 13:45, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, you have to go to the wiki article political party for the definition of a political parties as per wikipedia articles. Mexico is not an isolated island, and there is no reason why there should be any expection from wiki standards regarding the Mexican parties. --Soman 13:49, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Per the lead of the political party article (emphasis mine):

"A political party is an organization that seeks to attain political power within a government, usually by participating in electoral campaigns. Parties often espouse a certain ideology, but may also represent a coalition among disparate interests."

These "parties" are not allowed to stand in elections, thus rendering your point moot. And your point regarding "wiki standards" is wrong, otherwise there the creation of WikiProjects focused on each country wouldn't be encouraged (as part of countering systemic bias and "cultural imperialism" such as imposing blanket definitions which may not true for certain countries). -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 13:59, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Per the lead of the political party article (emphasis mine):

"A political party is an organization that seeks to attain political power within a government, usually by participating in electoral campaigns. Parties often espouse a certain ideology, but may also represent a coalition among disparate interests." --Soman 14:01, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

That usually is there to account for parties in countries like China or the former USSR were there are/were no formal democratic elections (hey, not calling the Communist Party in China a Party is a bit insane). Howerver, since the only recognized way to get into government in Mexico is by elections, I still don't see what are we arguing about, sinnce none of these groups advocate violent revolution as a means to get into power. Moreover few of these get public funds and those who do are not allowed to stand unless they get registered as parties. Calling them parties is simply, not verifiable, untrue and POV. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 14:11, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
I only just saw this discussion. Consider having this discussion on an article's Talk page; you could get some good insight there. --Duncan 14:26, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Hello Soman...I am curious...You seem to know Swedish...you are a staunch protector of all things Communist...you seem specially interested in Shining Path...are you a "Senderista"?--AAAAA 11:19, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
    • To be quite honest, for a person making repeated edits on the article, you seem to have a very limited knowledge about the dynamics of the communist movement. Study my edit history, and you will see at several points where my views differ from the sendero line. For example, see recent edits at Faiz Ahmad and Akram Yari. --Soman 11:42, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't know if you saw this diff, but it's pretty much the hight of hysteria. --Descendall 12:14, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Anecdotically, in a sense it might actually be one of the saner AAAAA edits. The 'Friendship Society Sweden-New Peru' is relatively quite wellknown in the Swedish left, mainly for odd and very long slogans. At some point I think there might have been more active senderistas in Sweden than in Peru. See [16]. --Soman 12:22, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
I think that there's a big difference between a handful of Sendero sympathizers and an actual "active cell." Maybe I'm just misinterperting AAAAA's comment. I don't think so, however. We're talking about a person who thinks that a 1960s Venezuelan urban guerrilla organization was a "branch" of the Shining Path, see Lilian Cristina Aya Ramírez --Descendall 13:44, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey Soman, Your recent edit to the Socialist Unity Centre of Inida 17 leaves it poorer, I am afraid. Please note that a wall writing of a political party is not a mural but at best a graffito. You can check here [18] If you are convinced please correct it.Kuntan 10:09, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

About Swedish general election, 2006

Usually when I follow the discussion in Swedish politics, read-green usually defines v-s-(mp)-c, also called by some "Rödgrön röra" (red-grean mess), if not the centre party is included in the group, then I think it shouldn't be defined as red-green (as green defines the centre, not mp). red-yellow perhaps is a bad term, perhaps more like "the left coallition" or something simlar. AzaToth 12:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

1) Yellow is never the colour associated with the Greens. 2) Red-Green is an uncomplicated term today. The Centre Party uses the green colour, but are not Greens in the political sense. --Soman 12:27, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps in an international sense, but in swedish politics, the scale is blue - green - red, but "The Greens" is more to the left than the Social Democrats. Also the term Read Green Mess came for when the Social Democrats and the Centre tried to corperate together. I just wanted to say that in sedish politics, the color green is associated with the "Centre", not the "Greens", the "greens" is associated with the color yellow. AzaToth 12:54, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Centre party are green, just not green like melon green(Green on the outside red on the inside). The Centre party proposes another way of getting good environment. They believe that people will take good care of their property such as piece of land or whatever if it's thiers(Who wouldn't?) and so it is in the best of interest if the state doesn't run the individual over with coersion of what one can do and not with ones possesions. If someone's property is damaged due to toxic waste or other enviornmental unfriendly means. A claim for reimbursement is the appropiate mesure from the destructive party. This is right on track with the agrarian political followers the party has. Something owned by the commons is something owned by no one and no one will take responsibility for it as have been demonstrated by the general populus of societies throughout time. Speedy deletions

Hi! I see you've been tagging articles for speedy deletion. I wanted to clarify a few things for you, to help you better patrol pages and to help the admin who deletes the articles.

  1. Please do not blank the article when applying the speedy deletion tag, even if the article is gibberish. It helps the admin to see exactly what you saw when you tagged it.
  2. Please use the official deletion tags, such as nonsense or db-bio. "NN" (non-notable) is not a deletion reason; not asserting notability is. Please review WP:CSD for information about the criteria and the appropriate tags to use.

Thank you! Please let me know if you have any questions. -- Merope Talk 14:36, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Congress (S) shenanigans

1978-80 was a confusing time, but not all members of the congress (U) went into the Congress (S). Jagjivan Ram was part of urs' party, and he split away first; YB Chavan left the party, anticipating a return to the Congress (I). The Congress (U) deserves its own page as the first proto-Third Front type thing, an national alliance of pure regional leaders. The rump of the Congress (U) did in fact become the Congress (S), but after its ranks were decimated and Sharad Pawar assumed command. Hornplease 00:45, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey Soma, Your last revert of Socialist Unity Ccentre of India was improper because it was simply meant to remove information. I don't think I need to say what such removal of text is called in Wikipedia.Kundan After Sundown 08:27, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

I understand that you are a tirelles revert warrior. Sometimes it is good, sometimes it is bad. Similar is the case of your propreitary feeling towards articles that have your contributions. I simply gave the criticism SUCI faces in a neutral way. That was not my point of view. Some Naxalite publications in Kerala published those things, I don't remember if Comrade or Vanguard did it. Your removal is based on ignorance, I am afraid. We had better refer this article for arbitration.Kundan After Sundown 08:48, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
I do not have a 'propreitary feeling' towards any article, except my own userpage and talk. I do not agree that you presented the view of the rest of the Indian left in a neutral way, and generally its not wikipedia's role to transmit political slander. The personal allegations against Ghosh were presented in an inpropriate way. Several formulations in your edit constituted OR. Moreover, there are several instances were other left groups have cooperation with SUCI. --Soman 09:12, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

You're right. I direct it to Nassrallah, responsible for the cevilians of northern Israel Which stood under mass bombigs, without any cause made by their country. 89.138.20.234 11:03, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Christian Democracy template

Thanks for doing this I asked people on the template talk to discuss such a change, but there was no movement in that discussion, I hope your being bold pays off. One question though, what kind of criteria did you use to exclude some, was it just your intuition? Because I'd prefer some sort of criterion to decide on which idea is included and which not, not only for this template, but also for others. C mon 16:40, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment. Basically I wanted to remove general ambitions that any ideology would publicly subscribe to (freedom, justice, etc.). The remainder is of course somewhat arbitrary. Generally, I think the CD template needs to be overlooked. I'm not an expert on the ideological history of CD, but there seems to be an imbalance towards theology rather than politics. In personalities, more prominence should be given to the politicians that formulated the modern CD, as opposed to religious leaders that might have inspired them. --Soman 18:31, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Estonia's Youth Communist League

It was fascinating for me to read about this and find research for it. However, I was disappointed by the lack of information about their publications, and the lack of English-language sources. I do wonder if further investigation in the museum archives will produce anything. Furthermore, JSTOR has quite a wealth of articles that mention this organization in a very passing way. But I am glad that my efforts produced something marginally helpful! At least it is somewhere to start! I might do some further research on it in books at the library. Communist International was a fascinating organization. --Ashley Rovira 12:02, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Would you be ok with that moving to Category:Political parties in the Palestinian territories instead? I only used the political body because I thought it would be most accurate, but if some of the parties really do predate the PNA, then I certainly wouldn't want to miscategorise them. Hi,

May I know why you deleted the list on the page? It was a list added by someone on the very first edit and was lost for some time during the re-writing of the page. I think some of the names could be useful information about her ancestral links.

Party for Socialism and Liberation

Hello Soman. I noticed that you edited the following sentence: "PSL's sustained participation in A.N.S.W.E.R. has been noted for it's previously unknown level of cooperation between communist and Islamist organizations" from the PSL article. I also notice that we both support "keep" position on the articles AfD. I inserted the sentence specifically to strengthen the articles "notability." I believe it is supported bythe FrontPageMagizine cite. I am not an expert in sectarian left politics so perhaps I'm missing something. Could you please elaborate on your reasons for removal of the sentence? At first I thought some editor was deliberately weakening the article during the AfD, but this seems highly unlikely in your case. Warm Regards. Edivorce 15:21, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Amicii - Amis

Hi and thank you. Cioroianu indicates that the actual overseeing body was the French section (around Barbusse). There apparently was no special body reuniting all the sections. He also indicates that Constantinescu-Iaşi took money straight from the Comintern (a detail which I did not pass as such into the text, seeing that it referred to a totally obscure German courier, but I have paraphrased it in the opening paragraph). My guess is we need an article on the Amis de l'URSS, and the info will be more or less covered. Dahn 14:59, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Well except the first one, none of the other articles contains relevant info about the EKP imho. If you want I can add something to your article or I can tell you what is written so that you can add yourself, let me know. In anycase I think I'll continue during the week-end, due to the fact that here now is very very late. Bye and goodnight!

This Template Will Self Destruct in File:Countdown.gif seconds

A tag has been placed on National Preparatory Committee of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party of Australia, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add hangon on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Flyingtoaster1337 09:48, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Communism template

The contents of the template you restored [19] are fine and an improvement over the previous edit. Inbloom2, however, seems interested in reverting back to a version featuring listing 'Leninism, Trotskyism, Left communism, Council communism, Luxemburgism, Anarchist communism.' [20] For reasons I get the impression you grasp, Inbloom2's version is inappropriate because it includes incidental entries while ignoring essential entries (Stalinism, Maoism, and to a lesser extent perhaps Eurocommunism). When reverting Inbloom2, please do not restore the red and white sickle and hammer, as you did in your last reversion. [21] If you object to the red and yellow symbol for any reason, I don't really care. The image is not too important. Just remove the image altogether, as I did when modifying your version of the template. [22] 172 | Talk 15:22, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Nepal Shiv Sena

The Shiv Sena was named after Sivaji. Was the Nepal Shiv Sena named after the Indian Shiv Sena? In which case the name refers to the same thing. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 06:48, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Semantically, maybe. But even in that case the reference is indirect. The choice of naming of NSS is to identify itself with the political legacy of the the Indian Shiv Sena. However, the Maratha heroism cult of the Indian Shiv Sena would hardly have been employed in identical manner by the NSS. Rather, it was a phenomenon that when Shiv Sena started directing energy towards building branches outside of Maharashtra that the interpretation of the name came change towards reference to the Hindu deity Shiva. It is probable that the Nepalese party argued in similiar ways, but to avoid entering into OR speculations, I suggest leaving out any comment about the meaning of the name unless there is any published material sharing light on the issue. --Soman 06:54, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Communist party

Why did you do that? Now CP of Lithuania article is a sub-stub and CP of Soviet Union incorporates stuff that does not belong there. CPofL was a (miserable) article on local history and local chapter of CPofSU. CPofSU has enough stuff about itself not to detail on every single chapter it had (if you add info about all CP in all Soviet republics it will bloat way beyond length requirements). I request you split the articles again. Thanks. Renata 16:02, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I agree that stuff needs to be differentiated. But to throw everything into one bucket at CPSU is not a solution. The way I think it should be: the local article (CP of Lithuania, CP of Estonia, etc) has simple headings like ==Pre-CPSU== ==CPSU== ==Post-CPSU== (btw, I believe that most CP changed their names after the Soviet Union disappeared so the post- stuff would belong to a separate article anyway). The way you are doing is bad for several reasons: 1. local article becomes a sub-stub; 2. CPSU article bloats because of info not really belonging there; 3. there is still no differentiation between pre- and post-CPSU... So I suggest un-doing your merges and cleaning up local articles. Renata 16:19, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
I have to disagree because CPSU-period CPs are most popular and important (and at least in Lithuania the CP before the CPSU was just a marginal group of very low importance). With all likelyhood that's what people are going to be looking for. Also, I don't think that splitting info into several articles is such a great idea because CPs before and after the merge with CPSU are still basically the same (usually, same people/leaders and same ideology). So it's not like those two CPs are completely different. One continues exactly where the other left of. I agree that stuff needs to be stressed, but it can be done in the same article. And looking practically, at leas at the momment, there is not enough info to split the articles. Renata 16:56, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Ok, do whatever you believe is best, but just don't merge everything to CPSU and don't leave local CPs mere sub-stubs. The Communist Party of Lithuania should deal with CPSU period because that's most important and prominent period. If you really want a separate article for pre-SU period, create some disambiguation like Communist Party of Lithuania (pre-1945) but I don't see any need for that (because that's just different stages of the same thing). AJ/PADS ministers

Hi. Are you sure you're correct about there being only two AJ/PADS ministers previously in the Senegalese government? The automated translation from the source being used on Landing Savane doesn't make it clear to me, but this source says there were five, and names them. I don't claim to know the specifics of the situation, though, so I could be misreading this somehow, or that source could just be inaccurate. Everyking 09:52, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. While Cioroianu backs the notion that there was some sort of central spot in Berlin, he does not clarify anything about its relation to the branches. In this respect, Cioroianu is the most specific source I could come across. Dahn 11:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Sounds great. I'll provide the summary on your talk page later today (in case other things come up, I'll add it in the main article, but I'll do my best to come up with it earlier - that way, you can edit the text with all pieces already available). Later, Dahn 13:51, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, Soman. I did finally added the info - it may be longer than requested, but I think that, ultimately, all summary sections could look something like that. Question about RIM etc

Dear Sonan,

I see that you have quoted:

Rawal, Bhim Bahadur: Nepalma samyabadi andolan: udbhab ra vikas. Kathmandu Pairavi Prakashan.

I havent checqued, but as it seems you have this work (in nepali? and can read it too?) I wonder if it is you who have included this as a source in the article about the RIM, too.

If so, I wonder if you can help me with several differences between the list of RIM founders quoted from this book, and the "official" list stored on the RIMs website:

You may answer me here, or write me offlist at tron@steinen.net

Best greetings Togrim, writer on the Norwegian Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.48.140.40 (talk) 20:40, 15 April 2007 (UTC).

Rawal also quotes the 'RIM Manifesto' as the source for his listing. Differences as I can see are:
  • Britain: In CRSP website the Revolutionary Internationalist Contingent is the founder, whereas Rawal lists the two constituents of RIC as co-founders of RIM. Rawal seems to make more sense, since RIC was founded in 1986.
  • Turkey: Rawal says TKP(ML), CRSP says TKP/ML. This needs to be clarified.
  • Moreover: Rawal does not mention Proletarian Party of Purba Bangla nor the Communist Committee of Trento in his listing.

--Soman 08:01, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Dear Soman: Rawal altso includes the Revolutionary Communist Party of Chile as a founding member. This seems to be a clear error, as the RCP - C was dissolved before march 1984. However, the RCP C was involved in the preliminary work. So I wonder if Rawal has used on his sources some pre-founding documents or notes? Greetings Togrim.
Rawal does not mention PCR-Chile in his listing. PCR has been mentioned as one of three initiators of RIM (along with CRC, CPI(ML) and RCP-USA), but I can't find written source for such a claim. --Soman 07:14, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Great work with new African stubs

Hi there, I just wanted to congratulate you on all the news stubs you are creating. I also want to suggest one thing. When you create a stub, please include the appropriate national stub with it at the bare minimum. For example, at the Socialist Revolution Party of Benin article, you can see that I added the 3 needed stubs. Please consider doing this in the future to ensure better sorting. Good job on the stub creations.--Thomas.macmillan 19:32, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

EPLA

Yes, Barberis et al have a short entry on it, and it certainly sounds like an interesting organisation, so I could write something up. But I'd like to find a second source before doing so; Barberis is quite vague on it, and having only one source suggests to me a possible lack of notability. Bot

Hi. Here are the translations in the same order:

These are acceptable translations I think. I don't know what an estate office is. A city is "مدينة" and a town is "بلدة". Municipality is usually translated to baladiya but it can also be as you said. --Mohammed Khalil 04:51, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Bot

I've modified Ganeshk bot script for Bengali wikipedia. For the Indian cities, the bot gets the long/lat values from Falling Rain website (http://www.fallingrain.com/ ). --Ragib 08:24, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, supplying the longitude/latitude values to the template usually takes care of that. You should get the template code and look into that to make the locator map work. --Ragib 08:53, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Re:Bot

The latitude and longitude values are pulled from Fallingrain website at run-time. While each town is processed, it is checked against the website to see if it exists, and the coordinates and altitude data are added in. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 15:31, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Just noticed Ragib had already answered this. :) Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 15:32, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Article Speedy Deletion Warning

A tag has been placed on AMISTAD, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template hangon to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. BoricuaeddieTalkContribsSpread the love! 20:53, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello. This is a reply to your hangon message on Talk:Philippine-Cuban_Friendship_Association. I suggest you create subpages for articles that are still incomplete instead of creating new, incomplete pages. Wikipedia:Stubs explicitly warns that if you create very short articles, they may be deleted. Please see Wikipedia:Subpages for more information on subpages. Also, I suggest you check out WP:CIVIL and WP:AGF. Finally, in case the article is not deleted, be warned that I will be removing all the red links in the article and adding several tags. Thank you. Yours truly, BoricuaeddieTalkContribsSpread the love! 21:42, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Philippine-Cuban Friendship Association

A tag has been placed on Philippine-Cuban Friendship Association, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you feel that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add hangon on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. andy 22:45, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Communist Party of the Philippines

yes, i am well aware of the fact that they have become separate parties,
but i have merged information from the original party founded earlier (1930)
the "new" party founded by its exiled chairman started as the radical youth section of the original party, and this section later became autonomous as the old guard tried to isolate them, but the new recruits and other progressive sectors of the party moved closer to the new CPP while the OLD center atrophied and dwindled as the new splinter group became the de facto successor of communist leadership, while remnants of the official party leadership moved closer and closer to the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos just to neutralize the new CPP
i Believe we need to show the continuity of this flux in the CP of the Philippines, like the continuity of CPSU

—-— .:Seth Nimbosa:. (talkcontribs) 11:22, 20 May 2007 (UTC) 11:21, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Please again take notice that PKP-1930 and CPP are two separate parties, both notable enough to have articles of their own. Creating a parallel article just creates confusion. If you would like to write an article concerning more general history of communist movements in the Philippine, I suggest you do that in say Communism in the Philippines. Also, perhaps Philippine Communist Party should be moved to another name. I followed the naming scheme at www.broadleft.org/ph.htm, but maybe 'Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas-1930' is a better name. --Soman 08:16, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, pehaps that is the best solution, but I wanted to move Philippine Communist Party think Communist Party of the Philippines (1930) but that was not possible, how do I ask for assistance?

My original Thought was to have Communist Party of the Philippines (1930) and Communist Party of the Philippines (Maoist) to be completely neutral and also displaye the provenance of the offshoot party

—-— .:Seth Nimbosa:. (talkcontribs) 08:19, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I moved Philippine Communist Party to the name used by the party today. 'Communist Party of the Philippines (Maoist)' would not work, as it would appear as if '(Maoist)' was part of the name (like Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)). In both articles the existance of the other party is clearly mentioned. --Soman 08:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Vmunicipal2002.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:Vmunicipal2002.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:15, 23 June 2007 (UTC). Notability of Anarchist Communist Youth Association of Narva

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Anarchist Communist Youth Association of Narva, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Anarchist Communist Youth Association of Narva seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Azerbaijan Communist Party

Dear Soman, it never existed in Azerbaijan a party named Reformist Communist Party'. The faction of the ACP led by Firudin Hasanov claimed itself to be the real Communist Party. Only media called it reformist to not confuse Hasanov's faction from Ahmadov's one, but it was never the official name. In 1998 Hasanov presented himself as the candidate of the Communist Party. And of course he wasn't pleased of the abjective reformist or cpa-2 that the media gave to his faction. The article had to merged to ACP one or to be changed its name.Musababayev 11:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC) opss sorry for bold letters, i'm new here ans still i don't know how to use letters well Musababayev 11:34, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, they worked as separate entities, each claiming to be the original one. I think it is correct then to move the article to Communist Party of Azerbaijan ( 1996 ) if we decide to keep separate articles. ΟΑΚΚΕ

Hi. This theory is spread mainly from KKE supporters to downgrade any influence small parties, using the word "Communist" in their title, may have or it's mainly said as a joke between people.. It is said the same for M-L KKE in some cases and less for KKE (m-l). I don't think there is any real basis one that and I don't think there is any reliable source for something like that.

Some people may get confused but I don't think that is the majority but a very small minority which it may be smaller than old people voting using ballots from previous elections(!) [This is happening because candidates post ballots with their name marked and some older people use them again after some years!].

The only thing I have read about confusing OAKKE with KKE is a letter to Rizospastis (KKE's newspaper) in 2004 from one of their members claiming that in a polling station there were counted 3 votes for OAKKE and none for KKE even if he and his family had voted KKE there.

Btw, you are doing a wonderful job in Wikipedia -- Magioladitis 07:52, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

At Movement for the United in Action Left the word 'CGT union' is mentioned. Which union is this? GSEE? PAME? -Soman 15:15, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

It's GSEE. Kostopoulos disagreed with PAME and left a little before its foundation. One of the reasons of his expulsion from KKE was his support to a French-like 35-hours-per-week model which declared by publishing a book without the party's approval.
Today i created this article that you may be interested: Movement for a United Communist Party of Greece -- Magioladitis 15:29, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll try to start the article for OKMLE probably today. I have to check some notes I have. OKMLE's blog is maintained by Anasintaxi. I am not sure if the the term M-L-S was first used by KEKKE or by Anasintaxi. I'll check my archive of newspapers. OKMLE didn't split from KKE (m-l), that's incorrect. OKMLE was created from KKE members. OKMLE was connected with the Labour Party (Albania). They never affiliated themselves with OMLE or KKE(m-l) because of the critique the maoists did to Zachariades. Sofianos, who was a leading figure of the Zachariadists in Tashkent, and his wife were participated in the establishment of the the "Temporary CP of KKE", later KKE (m-l) (not the one who occurred from OMLE's split but the one before). The left KKE (m-l) almost immediately. Sofianos died in the socialist countries and never got connected with OKMLE or the Zachariadists in Greece. If he did, he would probably be their leader.
PPSP (Progressive All-student Syndicalist Platform) was the student platform of KKE (m-l). -- Magioladitis 17:03, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
There was no pro-Albania groups in Greece prior to 1982. The majority of the DSE guerilas who were font of Zachariades and later following the Party of Labour remained in the socialist countries. I am not sure of the exact relation between OKMLE and Albania. Their newspaper printed radio broadcasts and brochures were also published. They didn't have a radio station. In the blog there are at least two brochures with radio broadcasts. PSPS was the front of the maoist KKE(m-l) (that succeeded OMLE). The first KKE(m-l), consisted of communists in the SSR and leaded by P. Daniilidis, was united in 60s with the group of communists around the magazine "Anagenissi", leaded by G. Hotzeas and I. Iordanidis, in Greece to create OMLE. They later, after Mao's death split in KKE(m-l) and M-LKKE .
Btw, here and here there are two articles about the Tashkent events in English. -- Magioladitis 20:17, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

As I noted in my deletion summary, the text you copied from that public domain website was itself copied from a 1968 book and is therefore presumptively protected by copyright. It is sometimes very difficult to track down successor copyright holders. That does not make the material public domain though. The best way forward on this issue would be for you to see if there is any other information available on the subject, then write the article in your own words. You can then cite the source as a reference, instead of copying it. Sound good? -- But|seriously|folks  19:40, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits to Communist Party of Indonesia - do the refs you supplied for 2 million people specifically state that this was 3.8% percentage of the working adult population? cheers --Merbabu 23:02, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 12:22, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

MLPÖ

Hi Soman, do you know when and why the article Marxist-Leninist Party of Austria (de:Marxistisch-Leninistische Partei Österreichs) was deleted ?----Sf67 11:24, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

MR-13

I cannot see how this a political party? MR-13 was part of the FAR when they killed John Gordon Mein. Intangible2.0 22:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

This article states that both MR-13 and the FAR were engaged in systematic terror. This article states that MR-13 operated without connections to the national political framework. Intangible2.0 23:37, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Marxism-Leninism

During your last edit you removed the POV tag from the page. We are clearly working through a POV dispute, quite positively. Please be careful to leave the POV tag in place until the POV dispute is resolved. --Duncan 12:37, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Mistranslation?

I believe an article of yours in the Nepali Wikipedia "अन्देअन पुनर्जागरण (Renacimiento Andino)" has a mistranslation. "Renacimiento" means "rebirth", while "पुनर्जागरण" means "reawakening", होइन त ? Perhaps it should be अन्देअन पुनर्जन्म (for the literal meaning) or पुनरुत्थान (for the figurative meaning)? You are probably right. I took the translation from an dictionary, but without proper adaptation. --Soman 06:58, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Antikapitalistiki.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Antikapitalistiki.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:52, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Red-Green Alliance (Denmark)‎ and upcoming Danish elections

Dear Soman, thank you for reverting unconstructive edits by IP 90.184.4.231, a clear cut right wing POV pusher on Danish WP. As perhaps you know, the Danish parliamentary elections take place on Tuesday. No doubt, the semi-vandalism taking place in this article is politically motivated. Bear in mind, that a section of the RGA sympathisers are non-Danish speaking (and prone to search for info on English language WP). I would appreciate very much if you would watchlist the article until Tuesday. Thank you. Alfons Åberg 15:01, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Disambiguation...

Hi - I've been clearing links that direct to cross-country, and it turns out that every-time you make a link to X-country from your User:Soman/Part page, it goes to the cross-country page. So, I doubt that is where you want all those links to end-up, but I'm not quite sure how to fix this particular error. So, I just wanted to give you the heads-up that you're directing a lot of traffic to an area I imagine has absolutely nothing to do with all those political parties. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Cheers, PaddyM 23:19, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Irlandsfronten

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Irlandsfronten, because another editor is suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add db-author to the top of the page.

Better source request for Image:1998mvrchavez.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1998mvrchavez.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talkpage. Thank you. OsamaK (talk) 06:13, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Vkp1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:00, 23 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 20:00, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Dear compañero Soman

Could you please help adding a bit of more content to the Puerto Rico PIP's wikipedia page, a party allied and traditionally supported by the communist/workers' Socialist Front, which in turn is an organization founded and led by the late J. Farinacci.

You may also see, if interested, Ricardo Alarcon speech where he describes the PIP's struggle and other information. As you may know, Ricardo Alarcon is the President of Cuba's National Legislative Assembly. Ricardo Alarcon's speech, where he praises Ruben Berrios and the struggle for Puerto Rico's independence, is available at:

independencia.net/noticias/p_alarcon_discurso_congInd18n06.html (Spanish-language info)

independencia.net/topicos/panama/cpi_panama_nov06.html#ingls (English-language information)

Anticipated thanks for any help you could provide improving and/or expanding that entry in whatever language you could help with!

In solidarity,

Hi - two stub templates which you created have been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub types, which were not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, do not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding these stub types, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 02:33, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

COMRADE,

       red salute,
an anti left personality has add some wrong and fatal data in CPIM article on wikipedia, at the begening he added that "top level cpm leadership is from brhamins", also he gave certain facts in favour of his writeup. All the crux of that page, which i found some months ago as the bestest one, is lost now, yesterday i did some efforts to improve that article, but some body had deleted my little additions within hours from that page. PLEASE PAY SOME URGENT ATTENTION TO TACKLE THIS PROBLEM, otherwise people may be misinformed, and wikipedia will no more be act like relevant free encyclopedia, it will become a tool to publicise the cast politcs of bharitya janta party and others.
     also i will increase the stub on hindi wikipedia under the article सी.पी.एम., इस कार्य में मुझे आमंत्रित करने के लिये धन्यवाद साथी! समय मिलते ही इस काम को करने का प्रयत्न करूंगा । i will contribute to it when i get a little more time.

CPM

I am interested in how to deal with the situation on this page. It looks like escalating into an edit war, since there appears to be no room for negotiation when opinion is presented as fact. What is the solution to this? I am unfamiliar with Wikipedia rules. How can we ensure that NPOV is respected and the article is brought into some order. I have no point of view to promote, just that this article is akin to a car crash.--Conjoiner (talk) 23:35, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

I agree with you. I've lived in West Bengal and my wife is Bengali and while everyone has various complaints about the CPM, the notion that it is some Brahminical conspiracy is entirely new to me. There are important debates within the Indian left and the direction of the CPM which are somewhat obscured by the current affairs-driven nature of this article and the novel theories presented in it. Economic policy is a serious point of contention, the nature of class struggle and revolution another. The actions of the West Bengal government - which should not be conflated with the CPM - in relation to Nandigram or Taslima Nasrin are separate matters and should be filed under the politics of West Bengal or a similar article, apart from those aspects of these issues that are relevant to the CPM as an organisation (eg criticism of its local level organisation). However, I don't feel there is a sensible discussion on the talk page.--Conjoiner (talk) 23:57, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I am familiar with this. It is an approach that is also propagated by Western Christian missionaries who wish to sideline class issues and narrow the focus on communal politics. In fact, the CPM has a sophisticated approach to the issue of caste and class, one that also has its critics. Yet, it is lacking in this article. Indeed, I have been told that the CPM should not be a source for stating CPM policies, a position I think is absurd. Or perhaps I am simply not familiar enough with Wikipedia rules, although I find it hard to believe that I am completely in the wrong on this.--Conjoiner (talk) 00:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Greetings Soman

Esteemed Mr. Soman, I write to ask for your advice about a group of talented youths who are very interested in left-politics and have created an international left-politics club of sorts. As far as I know they have been respectful and disciplined. Nonetheless, a Dutch wikipedian has accused them of being “anti-american” for having asked for the translation of certain political parties that are supposedly “subversive” (which seems to go against, on many levels, the spirit of wikipedia). While I am more of a Marxist than they are, they surely have very good points and present objective information on wikipedia. They have been interested in many subjects. Among these subjects, they have taken an interest in requesting various different language-wikipedias to provide content about political parties they are interested in. A user in the Dutch wikipedia who might be somewhat of a zealot claims that it’s vandalism to request a page and insists on delting the page they got various Dutch wikipedians to create. Now she is claiming that they are “vandals” and insists on blocking their user pages and deleting deleting any page they requested. Could you please take a view at her claims here and give me advice as to how they may respectfully request a revision of that editor’s unilateral actions? They have asked for my advice but I just don’t know enough about policies here to give them a definitive answer. That said, something about how this Dutch editor has proceeded has the smell of not being equitable and fair. In solidarity, Miraclebaby (talk) 17:20, 30 December 2007 (UTC) Thank you for your response, if you have any advice, please let me know. Thank you Soman, Miraclebaby (talk) 17:46, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Indo/Pakistan phobia

Hi Soman,

You appear to be saying that discrimination is unique neither to Indians nor to Pakistanis (or Bangladeshis), but is rather directed towards all of them in the west. If you are correct, perhaps merging all these articles into one would be a better idea than deleting all of them.

After considering your arguments I'm having second thoughts about my support for the Pakistanphobia article. Bless sins (talk) 18:43, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Indophobia AfD

Hello. I wanted to let you know that the term Indophobia is not a nonexistent Neologism. The term Indophobia was coined by American Indologist Thomas Trautmann [23]. Google books shows 77 hits [24]. term is used by academics such as here [25] and here [26]Ghanadar galpa (talk) 19:30, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry I made a date error. It was coined much later.Ghanadar galpa (talk) 19:34, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Could you please respond to this [27]? Do you wish to see some of the papers cited?Ghanadar galpa (talk) 22:44, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Request for further advice due to continued unfounded allegations

Esteemed Soman, I write to request further advice due to continued unfounded allegations wrtitten by the person you questioned recently. This person, MoiraMoira is apparently continuing to allege there is spam/vandalism even though he/she has not answered your query. Here is what that person is alleging on many different wikipedias (essentially the same message posted by MoiraMoira on the Dutch page). Here is a non-exhaustive list of other examples of this person's systematic attempt at making the same allegation without no apparent substantiation. ([28];[29]; [30]; [31]; [32], etc. the list goes on...) Thus, there is an ongoing systematic attempt at spreading that allegation through many languages' wikipedias even though she has yet to address the questions you validly posed. Since I perceive this is something that may establish a precedent that quashes or produces a chilling effect on editors, can you offer any recommendation on how to proceed? Thank you for the advice you can provide, Miraclebaby (talk) 20:41, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Krfuvanlig.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Krfuvanlig.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:04, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Communist Party of India (Marxist)

See talk. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 10:20, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I can see that the discussion on this article has now become farcical and Ghanadar galpa appears unwilling to include anything that is not his point of view or achieves a neutral point of view. I think we should go for this WP:RfC procedure you mentioned. I am unfamiliar with this procedure. Could you advise?--Conjoiner (talk) 23:03, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Until and unless a neutral party or an administrator intervenes and sorts out this mess, there is little point editing the article or engaging in discussion. The article is a mess and fails to meet various Wikipedia guidelines. It misquotes, gives undue weight, is poorly sourced, deeply biased and has poor English grammar. As such, no reader will take the article seriously unless they already hold Galpa's prejudices. So I am waiting for neutral intervention before working any further on the article. Unfortunately, no-one has yet commented on the administrator's noticeboard or the referral for comment.--Conjoiner (talk) 18:40, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
I will add a section on left-wing insurgency in India, ie Naxalism, in the Socialism in India article. I will also write a small paragraph on the Gorkhaland movement in the CPM page, once the controversies section is settled. Currently, all my edits are being over-ruled by Galpa, including grammar and spelling corrections in the "criticism of economic policy" section. As such, I won't waste my time on this article at the present time.--Conjoiner (talk) 18:59, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

I uploaded this photograph I took of a mural for Sujan Chakraborty in the 2004 Lok Sabha election campaign for Jadavpur: [33] I inserted it into the CPM article, but it has vanished. Did you remove it or was it one of Galpa's reverts of all my edits?--Conjoiner (talk) 01:25, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Fdn-mx.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Fdn-mx.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 02:46, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Furugård.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:31, 5 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nicke L (talk) 16:31, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Askelogo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Askelogo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. - AWeenieMan (talk) 22:32, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

The best way is to keep everything sourced by WP:RS/WP:V. That in itself should cut down on "maut kaa sadagar/nandigram butchers/pseudo-secular" cruft from popping up. I dont see how an essay would help per se, but perhaps an effort to source the articles is what is really required.Bakaman 03:52, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Can you give an idea of what's going on? I mean about the article. I know the situation in India. Why an edit war started now? How should we react in your opinion? Give me sometime to study the edit history. Friendly, -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:37, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

About the controversy section: I think it has to stay and shorten a lot. I don't know if you can do this in this panic of edits. Certainly something must stay. The two Nadrigram subsections can be treated very easy. We just reference to the proper article and its ok. I can't figure out how can we treat the rest. -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:45, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer. We really have to take care. This guy really pushes POV and if we don't stop it early this is gonna spread out in much more articles. Btw, please move the image warnings from your talk page. It takes me ages to load it. --Magioladitis (talk) 18:44, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Ghanadar galpa

Since the administrators have nothing to say about this user's disruptive behaviour, despite previous warnings for personal attacks [34] [35] [36], I think the best source of action would be to completely ignore this editor and to revert all his edits. He is obviously a troll causing problems, rather than a constructive Wikipedia editor. If administrators won't enforce rules, then I guess it is up to ordinary editors.--Conjoiner (talk) 18:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
