Happy New Year edit

Heya. Happy New Year. Don't know if you're still tidying up London 2012 BLPs but just came across a cluster of Senegal team bios with ASCII names: Amy Mbacké Thiam, Ndèye Fatou Soumah, Mamadou Kassé Hann, Moussa Dembélé (athlete) and handballers Siraba Dembélé Laïsa Lerus‎ Mariama Signaté. Despite Finnish relatives I've steered clear of Finnish opera due to lack of the language. Madetoja I mentioned creating orchestral song. As an experienced editor you should be thoroughly ashamed of trying to "move" Mamadou Kassé Hann back to Mamadou Kassé Hanne using copy_and_paste. If I had actioned your delete request, I would have thrown away all the edit history which would not have been fair on Dr Blofeld and the other contributors. Help on using AWB edit

I read your page on using AWB and a few terms seem to differ from the version I accessed a few weeks ago - has the end-user interface been updated since you wrote the article? Also in general I'm looking for a good task-oriented guide to using AWB. I might be a bit slow on the uptake, but (although I've already used it), I find it difficult to understand what it does and what it is good for. Coming from a tech-writing background, I find the "user manual" particularly bad in not explaining how to use it. For example, I'd like to see: This is what you can do with AWB: task1, task2, task3, etc. How to do task1, task2, etc Hohenloh + 15:08, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Category:Bien de Interés Cultural buildings edit

Category:Bien de Interés Cultural buildings needs moving to Category:Bien de Interés Cultural landmarks and ideally if you could then split it by province using the Category:Bien de Interés Cultural landmarks in the Province of Cádiz system of naming and organization in both by autonmous community and province, might require more manual labour though. Landmarks is technically better because a few of them are things like gardens, historic sites and even things like stamp albums. Also can you start applying Template:Cádiz-struct-stub, Category:Buildings and structures in the Province of Cádiz should be a good place to start but you might find a lot more in the Andalusian categories.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:15, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've got a few things I need doing with the film lists. For the list of Argentine films by year can you use AWB to replace the following in all of the lists: the word película with film (except the es: wiki link), Comedia with Comedy, Animación with Animation, Documental with Documentary. And de enero with January, de febrero with February, de marzo with March, de abril with April, de mayo with May, de junio with June, de julio with July, de augusto with August, de septiembre with September, de octubre with October, de noviembre with November and de diciembre with December. ONce that is done I need the bold five italics markers reduced to two in simple italics for Hong Kong films by year and from 1954 to 1969 the extra row needs removing too like thisDr. ☠ Blofeld 13:26, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Maths rating edit

When you add a {{maths rating}} tag to an article, please remember to set the field= parameter as well as the quality and importance. Otherwise, someone else will have to come after you to fill it in separately. The math project, in general, does not tag all articles in our scope with a bot, so that editors can set all three parameters by hand when the articles are tagged. There is no reason to tag articles solely to indicate they are related to mathematics. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:05, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

stop your sexist recategorizations edit

please stop changing to the sexist "actress"- the proper term is "actor". -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 22:36, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sadly he's right, it's no longer politically correct to call actresses "actresses", it's female actors now officially, apparently. We had this discussion a few years back when I proposed splitting actors by gender. I know it was another editor who started the actress categories a week or so ago and you're helping out but pretty sure they'll hit the CFD soon and all be reverted. I think it's ridiculous, but apparently that's what the status is nowadays.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 23:40, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, when I proposed this about 2 years I got a strong response saying that the Hollywood Guild of Film Critics or something were no longer using the term "actress" for gender equality reasons and lots of actresses were offended by the term, I'm just saying that there was a strong consensus against it at the time. Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2013 January 4 at least indicates that there are a lot in support which surprises me given the way many are very sensitive on here over such issues. The splits make sense to me and I've long thought it appropriate and actually better for browsing but I'm sure a lot would disagree.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 00:09, 3 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

If we're going to use the term actress instead of female actor then the male equivalent is simply actor not male actor.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:33, 3 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

If we had male and female actors categories the name would make more sense but as it seems we're using actresses than actor will suffice!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:14, 3 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thumbs Up Award for being at the right place at the right time and doing the right thing

as the TWO Thumbs Up Award you would have just earned it for your images at C. Adrian Pillars and Frederick Triebel. Getting these two stubs up has almost finished my cleaning up of the missing sculptors at the National Statuary Hall Collection. I don't do modern sculptors and I think that there are only one of two ones from the "historic era" left. I have a book on Triebel so can expand that a bit more, but first there is some housekeeping to do, cleaning up in a attempt to find my pictures ot the Sherzer Observatory fire, then a few other "other life" details to attend to. Anyway, thanks for filling these articles out. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:42, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

You are probably familiar with the old adage "If it plays in Peoria", well it was never truer than with Triebel, who was born there and ended up there, along with much of his work. There is a sad story (I might add it later) from his daughter about how his home was emptied out by persons unknown after he died and before the rest of the family could get there. Sigh, 21:55, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Adding article to WikiProject Film edit

Hello! I've noticed that you added the {{WikiProject Film}} banner to several articles using AWB, and I was wondering if you could answer a question for me: The templates that you've added all have |auto=yes, as if they've automatically been assessed by a bot. Was this just a result of copy/paste, or is there a setting in AWB to have the software automatically assess articles? Thanks! Fortdj33 (talk) 19:00, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

It was a result of copy/paste, but I chose to do it that way. While technically they weren't vetted by a bot, I did create the pages automatically, with AWB, and I wanted that reflected in the way they were marked. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:33, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the clarification. It's probably good that you did it that way, since that's how I discovered them in the first place. BTW, I understand that when you added the film banner to those articles, it was done in good faith. But some of those articles were for people, and the film project already covers so many articles, that it was decided (not by me) to exclude actors, filmmakers and screenwriters. Please be aware that those people are covered by adding the parameter |filmbio-work-group=yes to the {{WikiProject Biography}} banner instead. Fortdj33 (talk) 21:49, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Villages of Kiribati edit

Many years ago, in 2008 and 2009, you created a set of pages for villages on outer islands of Kiribati. These remain stubs, and in some cases even the whole island only rates a stub or start-class article. I am working through the islands of Kiribati improving and updating the articles and as part of this process I am putting redirects on all of the village articles which are still stubs, back to the main island article. An example is Antai, in Marakei. Just letting you know, as the creator of the original articles. I haven't deleted anything so if you want to revert these redirects go ahead. Thanks, --Obkiribati1 (talk) 02:02, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'll personally revert you for doing so Obkiribati1. Ser didn't start them to be redirected, try to expand them, not redirect them!!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:53, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK, I can leave these stubs as is, but my inclination is not to link to them if they provide no information beyond that available on the island page, and a link to a stub is not reader-friendly. Some village pages (eg Kiebu have already been turned into redirects by other editors. The problem is not so much that the villages are small in population (though some are very small indeed - perhaps a few households) but that there are so few references to these villages in reliable sources. This means there is nothing to create a village page from, at this point. I accept that this may change.--Obkiribati1 (talk) 20:54, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Update AWB edit

Could you update to the lastest version of AWB. This edit incorrectly removed the multiple issues template and added an outdated version.

Lastest version is 8964 and is located here. Bgwhite (talk) 05:53, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

That same edit changed Category:Sesame Street actors to the non-existant Category:Sesame Street actresses, so I reverted your edit. GoingBatty (talk) 12:15, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hrmm. I tried updating it a couple of days ago, and was told by the auto-updater that no new versions were available. Thanks for letting me know; I'll fix it tonight. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:59, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
There are two different versions of AWB. One is the official release, which is what you are currently running. Second one is the SVN release, which contains the newest code. SVNs are released every month or so. The auto-updater only checks for official releases. The link I gave up top is to the SVN release. Yes, it is confusing. Why are this version more reliable than the previous version?! edit

There are NO secondary sources in this article. Every other site that have the same information as here, are taken from THIS wikipiedia article. The previous version I wrote had every source listed, whereas this version have sources based on it's OWN article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doona Bae (talkcontribs) 11:24, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

A Barnstar for You! edit

  500,000 edits passed on wikipedia!!!
You definitely deserve one of these, I believe you only had about 40,000 edits when we met and I had several hundred thousand already. I'm a slacker nowadays! I enclose a fee of $500,000 dollars, only they're Zimbabwean so based on Mugabean economics probably worth half a cent LOL.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 08:32, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Trillion dollars LOL. Yeah, twas I the stub builder but in browsing wikipedia, I can't help but think now is the time to concentrate on getting some of the topics we all want decent articles for up to scratch. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:42, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I'm of the opinion we should be strict on those sorts of articles and only permit them once they've actually been held, state elections anyway. Not sure how many article come in a day on average nowadays but it definitely exceeds the amount of editors who will expand and nurture them. The problem is then articles grow stale and a lot of our older articles when accessed you find they should probably be swiped and restarted. That's the problem with an open ncyclopedia is that we tend to accumulate haphazard text which affects readability.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:51, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dunno, articles generally seem well-categorized, maybe look through some of the stub categories, occasionally some have a stub tag but no category.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:02, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Women writers from Alabama edit

In the discussion, you noted that you were ok with these cats as they seemed a good way to divide up larger categories. However, as I'm sure you know, presence in a gendered cat does not imply removal from the parent, so creation of the gendered cat doesn't reduce the size of the parent at all. Secondly, WP:EGRS explicitly states that these last-rung cats should not be created. Would you mind reconsidering your vote, based on that? Cite Journal vs Cite Document edit

Hello, recently you made some edits to Blackford County Courthouse. Thank you for your interest in the article. I always appreciate improvements and second "sets of eyes". It would be great if this article could be improved to Featured Article. There were a few minor changes, which I can "live with", but mystify me. A National Register of Historic Places nomination form citation was changed from a Cite Document to a Cite Journal. That seems unlikely to me. Perhaps this is the work of a bot? If it is proper to cite a NRHP nomination form as a journal, I have some changes to make in other articles. Are you sure? A few other Document citations were also changed to Cite Journal. Some are 3 to 5 page documents held by a local Historical Society, and were probably used in presentations. In one case, the document is the agenda/program for a ceremony. Should those really be called journals? I had been calling something a journal only if WorldCat calls it a journal. Is there some type of Wikipedia guidline that I should read? Thanks. Better source request for File:Temistocle Solera.jpg edit

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. June 2013 edit

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Fleming Allen may have broken the syntax by modifying 34 "()"s and 34 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 20:15, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

GeekNation edit

Hi. I am contacting you since you are the largest contributor to the wiki page, Clare Kramer, who owns GeekNation.com.

We were hoping to build a wiki page that would contain facts about the site but really don't know the first thing about building a wiki page and did not want to disrupt the wiki community or do anything incorrectly.

Is it possible for you to lend a hand in doing so? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
