Quebec articles

You're most welcome! Funnily enough, you caught me right in the middle of wrestling with trying to find adequate sources to get a long-overdue article about the actor and writer Marcel Sabourin done!

I'm one of those editors who, while I don't write French well enough to actually be a contributor on FR as such, I can read it well enough to pull out the important facts from a newspaper or magazine article — and since we do have a problem with a lot of Quebec topics getting inadequately addressed on the English side, I do make an effort to help fill in some of the gaps when I can.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a database of older French-language newspaper content the way I do for the major English dailies, so I'm mostly stuck with what I can find on Google — which (as with Sabourin right now) isn't always very solid or reliable for people whose peak notability and sourceability was 30 or 40 years ago instead of within the past few years. But I try to do the best I can with what I've got. Thanks again. Bearcat (talk) 20:52, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

Well, if you ever need some help with French translations I'm your guy. I do whatever cleanup and wikifying I can but I'm not that good at creating brand new articles indeed! BAnQ has thousands of archived newspapers. Some source ideas for Marcel Sabourin that are not about specific works (these are too many to list but often not in-depth):

Administrators' newsletter – July 2021

News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2021).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

  Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

I'm trying to help you

But these problems frustrate me, and that people refuse to think about what I'm saying is even more frustrating. I'm not asking you to take my word for anything. Just read what I have to say and think. I want things to get better. I'm tired of things being so terrible. DesertPipeline (talk) 10:52, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

I've read what you said. I understand your point about the risks of using non-libre software. My point is that you are hurting yourself trying to fight a tiny battle when the entire war has been lost a decade ago. Privacy is dead. Everybody carries a surveillance device everywhere, every word you say or type, everywhere you go, all of your data is stored on countless servers. That's how the world goes. Putting disclaimers on stuff will not effect even the tiniest bit of change. The only truly private place is inside your brain (for now). So enjoy the privacy of your thoughts while you still can. Ben · Salvidrim!  11:03, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
Believing that certainly helps them, but it doesn't help you. If there really is no way to save ourselves from the oncoming destruction, then at least we can die trying. If you do nothing, you will automatically fail. If you try, there's a chance of success. Even the lowest possibility of succeeding is better than no possibility at all. Slime Rancher page improvements

Hey! You appear to have created the article Slime Rancher and I figured it would be a good idea for you to check it out and let me know of any more improvements you think could be made. Thanks! Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry | Discord: Blaze Wolf#0001 (talk) 21:51, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Looks pretty good! I'm surprised to see how much of my original text still survives. What the article really needs is info on development. Ben · Salvidrim!  02:54, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
I was actually thinking about that last night as the Slime Rancher Fandom Wiki has SOME info on Development (including some images from early stages of the game) so there must be sources out there with info on it (besides the Fandom Wiki). Thanks for your feedback! Blaze The Wolf | Proud Furry | Discord: Blaze Wolf#0001 (talk) 13:11, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

A Humble Sea Snail

User:AHumbleSeaSnail hopes to be unblocked at UTRS. you may remember him as User:LouisPhilippeCharlesNew. I see no way forward. Global lock. Needs to request on original account. No insight offered, only an emotional appeal. On and on. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks, --Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:01, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. For what it's worth, the ceaseless flow of insults interwoven with pleading from this guy has been neverending since 2015 in my e-mail inbox and other social media platforms. Would suggest you move to a different country and perhaps get a new identity. (Non-administrator comment) Ben · Salvidrim!  20:19, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi there! You closed the AFD on this one in 2013. I believe that we can find enough sources to make it worth bringing back; would you mind restoring and moving it to draft space? BOZ (talk) 16:24, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

  • I'm not an admin anymore so I can't restore it myself but I think it's reasonable to have another admin draftify it for you; the AfD is pretty weak and I said in my close I'd do it myself upon request. Ben · Salvidrim!  16:28, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
