A goddess descends to your talk page

Hi, I noticed your username appears on this category and would like to invite you to take part in a general improvement drive on all articles relevant to Oh My Goddess! including character articles, episode articles and others. -- Cat chi? 21:43, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

WP:NOT

Hello, Rubenerd. This is in regards this edit you made - please be aware of what Wikipedia is not, especially that talk pages are not forums for general discussion of an article's subject. Your compliance with these policies would be appreciated. Thank you. BlueAg09 (Talk) 21:47, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

I appreciate your response, however I believe my comments were in line with the legitimate questioning of a subjects notability for inclusion in a global encyclopedia. A rivalry between two universities which results in a ritualistic bonfire just doesn't seem to be that important. I respect your opinion though and will try to adhere to Wikipedia protocols. Cheers --rubenerd (talk) 03:36, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Would be interested to know how you used WikiMedia to run a "computer parts inventory list" Did you write a special module for this ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 56.0.103.24 (talk) 17:19, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Australian Central Credit Union

The article Australian Central Credit Union has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

not clear how this orphaned article meets notability guidelines, lacks any references to 3rd party sources

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RadioFan (talk) 16:15, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Articles for deletion nomination of Australian Central Credit Union

I have nominated Australian Central Credit Union, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Australian Central Credit Union. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. RadioFan (talk) 23:37, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad the consensus was keep. I'm getting pretty fed up with heavy-handed deletions justified by verbose copy/pasted boilerplate. I've updated my talk page welcome in the hopes this doesn't happen again. Cheers, --rubenerd (talk) 03:55, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Jeff Lorber Wizard Island album.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Jeff Lorber Wizard Island album.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. More information needed about File:Michael Franks Love Songs CD.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Michael Franks Love Songs CD.jpg. However, it needs some more work before it is okay to use on Wikipedia.

Please click here and do the following:

  1. Add a description of where the image comes from (not what it is) and who the creator is. Please be specific, and include a link if you can.
  2. Find the appropriate license from the list of free, non-free media, or public domain options. Copy the license template and paste it in the file's page, and save.

If you follow these steps, your image can help enhance Wikipedia. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at the media copyright questions page.

Thank you for your contribution! --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:05, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome

One of the more fun, although quite time-consuming, things I do on wikipedia is assessing Unassessed Album and Song articles. It exposes me to music I've never heard of and to the work of a variety of different editors. Most are obvious stubs. The articles you've created are borderline stub/start-class, I think, but they are nicely organized and sourced. Typically, I look for "start-class" articles to have an intro (more than a single sentence is nice) and another section (whether it be reception or background), along with the necessities - an infobox, track list, and personnel section. Welcome to Wikipedia and keep up the good work. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 08:05, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Template:Malaysian Expressway System

Hi. The Malaysian Wikipedians and I would like to extend our gratitude in helping to improve our Malaysian articles. Recently, when you converted the navbox template above into 'hlist' class in your revision 477693959 on 19 February 2012, there was a display problem, in that the navbox was so long that it went off the main screen and the user have to scroll far to the right to read the other links. I predict that there may be a source code problem at the moment, so I have reverted the edit and the other following edits for now. Please check the source code and your revision before changing the navbox back to the 'hlist' class (as I have no clue on how to do it). Thank you and please continue improving Wikipedia! Orphaned non-free media (File:Whole Wheat Radio logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Whole Wheat Radio logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:52, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:32, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Invitation

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on Saturday 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Invitation to Adelaide Wikipedia Users Group meetings

Hi, in case you're not already aware of it, a group of Adelaide Wikipedians has been meeting on a monthly basis since April, with the aim of improving the scope and quality of articles on South Australian topics. We meet at UniSA's City West campus, and our 23 July meeting will have a guest speaker from the National Trust of SA.

This coming Sunday, 6 July, we will be holding our first Edit-a-thon. This will be an opportunity for new editors to come and learn either basic or more advanced editing from very experienced wikipedians, so if you know anyone who would like to get some practice, please let them know - and beginners will be very welcome. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 06:27, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/The 50,000 Challenge

You are invited to participate in the 50,000 Challenge, aiming for 50,000 article improvements and creations for articles relating to the United States. This effort began on November 1, 2016 and to reach our goal, we will need editors like you to participate, expand, and create. See more here!

Michael Franks jazz album feedback

I apologize if you know all this information already, but I've been finding the same mistakes on Michael Franks's albums either by you or someone else. If it's not you, please pass this note along.

  • See the latest version of the infobox album template and the tracklist template
  • Quotations get quotation marks, not italics.
  • Albums, newspapers, and magazines should be in italics. Songs should be in quotation marks.
  • Any possessive can't take an apostrophe "s", even if it already ends in "s", so you can use Franks's if you want. [Ruben: I think you meant can here]
  • Don't put language (usually English) in the infobox
  • Pipe labels in infobox
  • Don't pipe Christmas music to "holiday" music
  • See Manual of Style for capitalization rules, esp. regarding song titles.
  • Amazon can't be used as a source because it is a retail site and it relies on user-generated content.
  • There's usually not much point in writing an article about a compilation of songs that have already been released, as in Best of or greatest hits package.
  • Personnel sections, especially in jazz, are usually formatted this way: The person who made the album (the leader) comes first, so Michael Franks should come first in the list, not the bass player or the photographer. Link musicians who have articles. Name comes first, then the en dash, then the instrument. Musicians are listed according to instrument in this order: leader first, brass, woodwinds, strings, keyboards, bass guitar or doubler bass (specify), drums, percussion, and vocals. Instruments are lowercased except in rare examples. This information should be sourced.
  • Opinion: I find Reception sections to be mostly a waste of time. Particularly unhelpful are comments by music critics that say nothing more than "this is a great album". It's not against the rules to include such comments, but I find that they diminish the quality of Wikipedia and they add little one's appreciation of the album.

Response

Hi Vmavanti, thanks for taking the time to write this. Please include headings in talk pages as per the talk page guidelines, or they run into previous comments and aren't linked in the Contents.

All your technical points are valuable, especially the personnel sections. I thought I was already doing most of these, but there's a good to fair chance I butter fingered or didn't understand at the time. The Michael Franks articles were my first stabs at jazz album posts on Wikipedia, and I like to think I've got better since.

Only caveats: I find reception section quotes helpful establishing notability for lesser-known acts. And as a reader I've found compilation albums useful for finding which albums songs originally came from. If you feel strongly about these, it deserves proper discussion over on WP:ALBUMS and WP:JAZZ.

Cheers! --RubenSchade (talk) 04:19, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
