About the (MTR) Infobox

Well, everything seems all right there. I guess this means 1 MTR infobox is enough for all stations in the network.

Cheers. --Kylohk 15:25, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I have added infoboxes to all stations in the MTR network but Airport, AsiaWorld-Expo and Nam Cheong.

Thank you for your attention.

New problem

Image:Motorola MING.jpg

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Motorola MING.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a free image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.– Quadell (talk) (random) 13:24, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Template:Countries and territories of East Asia

Hi Peterwhy,

[1]

Suggest that if flags added to this (or similar) templates, they are vertically aligned so as to keep the template from looking cluttered. What do you think...?  Yours, David Kernow (talk) 19:12, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

...I found that there were some similar navigation box with flags, and so i added flags to the Template:Countries and territories of East Asia. Here are four boxes which show the previous version, the current version, the version if countries are aligned vertically, and my suggested solution...
Thanks for including these. I experimented with them and produced:

The code, however, is more complex, so I'm thinking it might be worth creating a {{Navigation with table}} or the like for Navigation templates featuring flags. On the other hand, tidying the flags as above produces a template that doesn't use its full width; I also wonder whether it's worth including flags, especially in templates with relatively few links such as the above... If, though, people reckon they're useful, I think one or more templates that assist in their alignment are needed. Yours, David (talk) 18:40, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

...Have created and used {{Navigation with columns}} with {{Countries and territories of East Asia}}; what do you think...?  David (talk) 05:21, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Hong kong express logo.gif

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Hong kong express logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:08, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Venue suggestion needed for a meet-up in Yuen Long

Template:Aviation lists

Yes, "Template:Navigation" has been used for a long time, but on 8 August a change in the wiki code forced this navbox to display in an autocollapsed state. The change to a different base template preserves the original functionality of the box (displaying expanded). Of course, if you know how to force the box to display expanded, then please feel free to revert to Template:Navigation and implement this fix. Cheers --Rlandmann 07:47, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Hong Kong Metro Station Formats

Hello. I noticed that you have changed the names of the KCR Stations, dropping the "Station" part.

To be honest, I have been a long supporter of changing the names of all metro stations by adding "station," thereby using the actual name of the stations.

So what you have just done is undo that effort.

Bourquie 17:42, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

I'd like to point out several things that have been posted to me by you.

"For example, in their announcements, 'Station' or '站' is never added after 'Central' or after 'Tai Po Market' or after whichever station."

The word "station/站" is dropped because the sentence already includes the word "station."

"All their maps drop the last word 'Station."'

Please check the external links on Lo Wu Station and see the map.

Although the platforms don't have the word "station/站," the facades and entrances do.

Also KCR maps all have the word "station/站."

In conclusion, I don't see how MTR or KCR "seldomly" use the word "station" in their systems. Futhermore, it only makes sense to have "Station" on the title of the article, like the Chinese version.

Thanks for adding the info the the article. Please ensure that you don't use identical wording to the original source. I've changed some of the wording to make it more different. I also removed some of the detail that I felt was excessive for the article. Obviously, feel free to edit my changes! Cheers! Flyguy649 talk contribs 15:25, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Template:BS, Template:BS3

I didn’t take any screenshots, but what happened was that diagrams which mix together multiple types of column rather than sticking to just BS or just BS3 didn’t line up properly. The one where I noticed it most was Template:Cross Country Route, which switches between BS, BS3, and BS5 depending on the complexity of an individual row; with the modified templates, every row aligned to the left, causing them not to flow into each other.

This sort of switching is also necessary to use the branching symbols, as in my experimental Copenhagen diagram, which rendered perfectly before the changes, but incorrectly afterwards; Nørreport through Christianshavn, instead of being centred between the two branches, were on the left, directly above the Vestamager branch. David Arthur (talk) 14:20, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

This picture demonstrate the problem. The image on the left is the correct diagram, which I see with the unmodified templates; with your modifications, it becomes the incorrect version on the right. David Arthur (talk) 17:44, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
I’m afraid it‘s still wrong, and in the same way. David Arthur (talk) 16:55, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Rail pictograms

I note that a range of rail pictograms I've created in the past week or two have been re-uploaded by yourself under different codes. Whilst there is nothing intrinsically wrong with that (though I think a far better practice would have been to discuss with me why you thought the codes were incorrect and to let me do something about that) you have chosen to assign the release of copyright to yourself when you downloaded-and-uploaded them, rather than duplicating the information section relating to me. I find this pretty unacceptable and reprehensible, not to say a poor way to make yourself look better at the cost of the efforts of other editors. --AlisonW (talk) 20:18, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

My apologies for the brusqueness of my tone; it had been a shock to discover what had happened and as I had taken steps to ensure I copied the originator data when moving pictograms myself I had presumed that others would to. As regards the errors in naming for some of them it was, in part, due to pre-existing 'wrong' codes being in general use and thus seeking at that time to retain the naming style from those earlier creations by others. --AlisonW (talk) 21:11, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

GRENZE: Fine by me; I picked up one of the existing ones to base the mu icons on and found them both with svg coding errors so all to the good if you've sorted the lot. --AlisonW (talk) 16:03, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

BSicon ueGRENZE.svg

As far as I know image files can not be edited, even svg files. You have to upload a new version using the same file name, it will clobber the old one and replace it. I can't help you about moving to commons. I have seen a lot of files that need to be moved to commons, and there is a bot that does that, but it has to have a category on the commons to move it. 199.125.109.102 (talk) 07:09, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

The problem is, i can't even re-upload that file, due to the protection. That's why I was requesting for edit. – PeterCX&Talk 07:16, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I was trying to see if it was protected. I couldn't see that it was. 199.125.109.102 (talk) 07:25, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

railway system graph

Hi, i write this for discussing about the future railway route map we may draw. I actually do not like the style in my Image:WIL-SIL-Proposal-4 20080131.svg for having the planning or constructing line in solid color but the existing in faint. I did that for uniting the style with the updated scheme by user:Xavier114fch. I prefer the style of Image:FutureMTRNetworkAfterMerger.png but with the inexistent line in

rather than in lower opacity for color-blindness-free. How do you think? -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 01:12, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

We've had to correct the rank at least 4 times or more due to the sorting by gold issue. I think it's best if we left it there for now. --Jh12 (talk) 09:23, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

This IP address is very different from the other one that recently blocked you. If you are connecting in an unusual way, through proxies, you are quite likely to run into blocked proxies. Can you tell us about how you connect to Wikipedia? Mangojuicetalk 14:50, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
I cannot confirm that this IP address is not an open proxy, and in fact I'm showing several open suspicious ports. Please be aware that for security reasons, and according to Wikimedia policy, we do not allow users to edit from open proxy servers. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:40, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
I am not sure how was my internet connected, but only that when I tried to edit, it shows "Blocked" blah blah blah. Anyway, thanks for your help – PeterCX&Talk 00:17, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Celebrations for 2nd Anniversary of Wikimedia Hong Kong

Orphaned non-free media (File:KMRT logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:KMRT logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 07:59, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Original Barnstar
I randomly find out your invention of BS#-replace. I must say your idea is brilliant. Please ask for asistance whenever you need. Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 04:49, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
File:Sameboat temp.PNG
BS3-replace breaks in IE7 when "shown". (May require purge and refresh for correct version of the image.)
Hi Sameboat! Since long ago I have been thinking collapsible might make some diagrams which does not make sense, either when collapsed or expanded. So I had been trying some kind of replacement in BS3 (where all sandboxes exist) last month.
Since the template is related to CSS, I want to try the effect thoroughly among browsers before introducing. However the progress is paused because I am quite busy currently. So as you can see, {{BS3-replace}} is only used on Thalys in the article namespace.
What else do you think about the "invention"? – PeterCX&Talk 10:01, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
I really like it and want its series to be completed. It looks perfectly fine in Firefox 5, but the replaced icons are misplaced (move half an icon width to right) in IE7 when the collapsed section is "shown". Personally I don't think we should stop this project if it turns out to be incurable, because be honest IE7 and older versions should fade from the browser market long ago. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 03:27, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Sameboat, thank you for your improvement! As I have said, I am prtty busy now and was not aware of your contrib on BS-replace... Though, the current effect looks good in my IE7 here! – PeterCX&Talk 06:31, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for bothering you when you're busy. We all know there's no need to get hurry. Just I didn't contribute to the BS-replace, just some failed experiments. And that text-align:left really does nothing, Firefox simply ignores it but IE7 regards it as incorrect script, so the replacing icons appear instantly over the startCollapsible icons and the [show/hide] button is removed. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 07:45, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Location maps

I see you have corrected maps on Hoxne Hoard which I created (but I forget how!). I need to create an important one for the MonmouthpediA project.... would you help? Victuallers (talk) 09:50, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Coins from the hoard came from a number of locations across Europe.[1]
Hi, do you have the specific page/template for me to help on? If you would like to try by yourself, generally the procedure is
  • to find a suitably scaled and correct base map in Category:Location map templates;
    • Here "correct" includes a map coloured using a preferable scheme
    • and with correct x and y formulae
    • if there are variations (e.g. political boundaries v.s. relief maps, equirectangular projections v.s. equal distance v.s. equal area projections), use the one that suits your needs or the one that is more popular
  • to find out the longitude(s) and lat(s) of the points you would like to place;
  • fill in the template parameters like the one in Hoxne Hoard;
  • if necessary, create more {{Location map~}}s.
I have copied the location map there for your reference. Most of the parameters can be figured out easily. The only parameter that might cause confusion is the first (and unnamed) parameter in both {{Location map+}} and {{Location map~}}. (both Europe in this case) That is the name in {{Location map ____}}, the template you looked up from Category:Location map templates.
Anyway, please tell me if you need more help on location maps :) – PeterCX&Talk 10:53, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the offer of help. I'm trying to recreate the map at the start of Monmouth Heritage Trail. I can see how to add each of the "pins" but I can't remember how to pull in the map image. The map image I'd like to use is the one from open street map. Victuallers (talk) 18:26, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm thinking that this or this could do as the background image Victuallers (talk) 18:31, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
To make a new background map template is also very simple. First upload your new map with suitable permission tags. Then with reference to {{Location map Wales}}, create a new template, fill in the boundary longitudes and latitudes of your new map (precisely, given your locations' small scale), name the template according to conventions in Category:Wales location map templates. After these steps you should be able to use your new background map by {{Location map}}. – PeterCX&Talk 18:46, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Well I tried that. I loaded "Monmouth.png" and used the lat and longs from http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.8099&lon=-2.716&zoom=14&layers=M embedded in the Wales Location Map ..... but I just got syntax errors. Care to demonstrate? Victuallers (talk) 19:15, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Check the one out on the right by {{Location map Wales Monmouth}}.
Just now I understand why you have encountered error. You will not be able to see the effect in the template page {{Location map Wales Monmouth}} when you are in Edit preview, because the template {{Location map/Info}} inside that page could not get your edited data before you create the page. Even after you saved your page, you might have to purge that page to check its effect. Don't be worried and that is normal.
By the way, for that Monmouth location map, I assumed the coordinates in File:Monmouth.png description are its boundaries. Please check if I have done that correctly. – PeterCX&Talk 03:01, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
Wow thats great! .... and now you remind me I can dimly remember that this was the problem that I overcame the first time I tried. Thanks! Is there any chance you fancy translating the heritage trail article into Chinese? BUT very big thanks anyway! Victuallers (talk) 10:57, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

white-space: nowrap

I don't know what's the problem with table-layout:fixed and overflow:auto, just to remind you I voided the white-space:nowrap in BS-map (not BS-map/map) because something strange happens when the title text is too long, I don't remember the exact circumstance but I guess this has something to do with the navbar and collapse/expand button. I suppose white-space:nowrap should be fine in /map, though. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 13:15, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

For nowrap in {{BS-map}}, if the title= or top= or bottom= sections are too long and are not allowed to wrap, I guess that that will make the whole {{BS-map}} table too wide. Differently, since inside each {{BS-map/map}} table no line is supposed to wrap by default, I cannot think of situations that behave differently yet. One thing that I didn't test thoroughly is that when map-title sections are collapsible. See if you have any example that you knew for me to check in mobile and on desktop. – PeterCX&Talk 13:31, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Route diagram template/BSicon-hubs

Any particular reason that you made this change? It's unlikely that many of the full width HUB icons will ever be needed in the narrower widths, and some (the diagonals and column shifts) would be pointless and/or impossible. Useddenim (talk) 17:32, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Useddenim! I personally think by merging the two previously existing tables, the template actually use less space. And I don't mean to expand all HUBs to dHUBs or cHUBs, so I didn't even bothered to make all 0-100 rows for the two narrow sets. – PeterCX&Talk 15:28, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia namespace BS-anleitung templates

Just looking at the MfD for Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia namespace BS-anleitung templates. I'm happy to take care of it except there seem to be some pages, such as Wikipedia:Route diagram template/Catalog of pictograms, where they are still in use. I can use WP:Twinkle to mass delete all of them, redirects, and "Remove usages of each file (in all namespaces)" but it would be better if you were able to remove all uses of the templates. But not were they are used with each other. Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 08:23, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you. Yes, they are currently included in the Templates section of Wikipedia:Route diagram template/Catalog of pictograms, because that section is a(n incomplete) list of templates in this series. Let me remove the usages in that section, and if they are still used after that removal, please let me know. — Peterwhy 15:57, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm pretty sure that I got all of them and the subpages. There is a list of the deletions at User:CambridgeBayWeather/List. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:38, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

You could probably add Template:BS-any to your list of proposed deletions. Useddenim (talk) 05:02, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

You've done an excellent job of fixing this template and updating the documentation, but I'm not sure to what end as it is only used in one user's sandbox … Useddenim (talk)

Your access to AWB may be temporarily removed

Hello Peterwhy! This message is to inform you that due to editing inactivity, your access to AutoWikiBrowser may be temporarily removed. If you do not resume editing within the next week, your username will be removed from the CheckPage. This is purely for routine maintenance and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You may regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MusikBot II talk 17:20, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
