Hi MarnetteD, I have a problem with your erazing of a contribution to the Titus Andronicus' authorship section. What exactly is the reason for not admitting research results that are published and available for everyone to see? Eric Sams bitterly complained about his research not finding the recognition he deserved. What he said about editors was not very kind, but I have become very suspicious recently that he may have been right and that there is some research OUP doesn't like. Nhtnilse (talk) 09:36, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Nhtnilse

You will need to read item number one at WP:NOTFORUM as that is what this theory is. Next, see WP:SIGCOV since, at this time, this theory has had no commentary from other scholars. There are plenty of places on the web, other than Wikipedia, for this theory to be disseminated. FYI I could care less about Sams complaints or your suspicions. My editing is policy based and it would behoove you to read and learn from those policies. MarnetteD|Talk 13:33, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Marnette is correct in deleting that addition to the article. This theory has received no coverage whatsoever in any publications, nor has it been discussed or analysed by any notable (or non-notable) scholars. In short, it is non-encyclopaedic. If at some point in the future, the theory is discussed in reliable sources, that's a different matter, but at the moment, it's original research (with this in mind, another link you may want to take a look at is WP:PRIMARY. Wikipedia is not the place to push original research). Regarding Eric Sams. He was a brilliant scholar, no doubt, but overly emotional, and when his theories weren't accepted, he was prone to throwing tantrums. In one of his rants he referred to Peter Alexander's work as "disgraceful nonsense." Steven Urkowitz is as much of an opponent of Alexander's work as Sams was, but I'm not aware of Urkowitz firing juvenile insults off at any point. Finally, I'm not sure what the OUP has to do with anything, other than the fact that Sams hated them! Bertaut (talk) 17:58, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Not sure how that happened. I do notice that my "up arrow" key gets stuck. I'll try alcohol and then exorcism. But thanks for fixing it. Coretheapple (talk) 20:28, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
You are welcome Coretheapple. You know what alcohol and exorcism have in common? They both can lead to upchucking. Yes some (many) of my jokes are real groaners :-) Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 20:59, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

"cult classic"

No problem on my end. As I said in my AN/I report, some of the usages might not have been appropriate, but it was the mass nature of the removals without consensus that I objected to. Hope all is well with you. BMK (talk) 02:38, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your message BMK. Things are going okay here. If memory serves - several years ago - there was an editor who wanted to add "cult classic" to all manner of films whether they were or not. Maybe this is the yin to that yang :-) I would like to take a moment to say that I appreciate your efforts here at WikiP. You've been through a lot and you should know that it wasn't all in vain. Threemonths

Hi MarnetteD, In reference to Bill Maher, I have not read anything that says that the degree achieved & year is not for the infobox. Can you point me to your source? Threemonths (talk) 16:00, 24 October 2015 (UTC)Threemonths

Thanks for your post Threemonths. The field you used is "Alma Mater" and the documentation for that field reads "This parameter is a more concise alternative to |education=, and will often consist of the linked name of the last-attended higher education institution." The field for any degrees earned is "Education" since its documentation states "Education, e.g. degree, institution and graduation year, if relevant." I hope this helps and I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 20:22, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Hey, what's going on over there? I see that the IP was blocked previously, but at a glance the lack of edit summaries and the ping-pong editing between you and the IP doesn't look great. A discussion at the Talk page over there or at least an edit summary would be helpful. Thanks! DonIago (talk) 16:26, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi Doniago. This is one of our LTAs. Harvey C at a guess. The hidden notes are unnecessary as are the changes to at least one of the cats. I'll try to get to the talk page when I have time - but I am headed out the door in a couple minutes. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 17:03, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Adam Richman

Hi Marnette, I hope all is well with you? I meant to reply to your comment on the recent RM but it's closed now so answering here: The page hit mention brings up a question for me - if five or six years from now this AR has retired and the singers career is flourishing and their page hits outpace the ones for this article do we have to have another page move discussion? Absolutely! Primary topic can most certainly change in 5 years, I agree this could well be worth revisiting in the future, I'll admit I'm unaware of the singer but if his popularity grows he could well overtake everyone's favourite hamburger guzzler! :) Zarcadia (talk) 17:54, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Great to hear from you again Ebyabe. I removed it for several reasons as you can see from my edit summary. WP:SELFPROMOTION being the main one. To be fair I am in awe of how the show is an inspiration for creativity among its fans but they just don't belong on WikiP unless they illustrate some part of a show that could not be represented by a pic. I hope that you have been enjoying this season. For me the performance that Capaldi gave in his speech near the end of "The Zygon Inversion" was particularly marvelous. Enjoy your week. MarnetteD|Talk 19:34, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
Hey! I thought it might be something like that regarding the image. Otherwise Wikipedia would basically become DeviantArt. Which is the proper place for all the great fanart. I am enjoying it on and off. I thought the season opener was amazing. Twelfth's obvious angst in The Zygon Inversion speech was so moving. I never imagined Clara's ultimate fate to be what it wound up being in Face the Raven. Now I'm really interested in how this season will end and what Season 10 will be like. ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Your drop to pos. 345

Hi, re this edit - if you look at the update of 24 November you will see that Jaguar (talk · contribs) leapt from pos. 369 (95,783 edits) to pos. 340 (101,446 edits). Not all of their 5663 edits were useful (see their talk page) and I suspect a case of editcountitis. Whatever, they're not registered as a bot but are acting like one. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:31, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the info Redrose64. I have seen editors like "Trappist the monk" and "ÄDA - DÄP" move right on past me but I noticed their names moving up the list for a few days before that happened. On another note I remember your mentioning that the distance between editor edit counts increases as one moves up the list and I am at the point that I know what you meant as the next editor in front of me has 500+/- more edits. I know it is just a fun item to keep track of but as I have my own strain of editcountitis I appreciate you tracking down what happened. It satisfied my curiosity. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 23:48, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

J. H. Putman Public School

I'm having a hard time understanding why this article exists. Seven years with no sources, and no claim to notability as far as I see. If this were a new article I would redirect it to the school board and merge anything useful. Meters (talk) 03:39, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your note Meters. I was taken aback at how much stuff/nonsense/BLP violations had been added to the article. I agree with your assessment of the page and add that it looks like a magnet for the kind of edits that I mentioned. My experience with school articles (other than reverting errant nonsense) is very limited but the conversations I have seen about them are along the lines of "if they exist they are notable." I think your idea of a redirect has merit in spite of the age of the article. OTOH I am not sure which noticeboard you should go to for more input. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 03:48, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
School articles are an exception to some of the normal rules. They are exempt from speedy deletion based on notability, for example. The general rule of thumb is that high schools are always found to be notable (if they really exist), but elementary and junior high schools are normally redirected to the community or school board articles unless they have some clear claim to notability. The first school built in the area might qualify, a designated heritage building would qualify, location of some famous event, etc. This school article seems to have been grandfathered in, and I see nothing in it to justify keeping the article. Meters (talk) 03:57, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
I appreciate you filling me in on all of this Meters. I had seen bits of this over the years but I haven't had all the details until now. 10+ years here and there is still stuff to learn :-) I hope that you have a pleasant weekend! MarnetteD|Talk 04:53, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Team info

Okay, so what can I do to include the information about the Nuggets in their article? What I stated WAS true. If you take a look at the eleven NBA franchises that have never won either an ABA or NBA Championship, the Nuggets are the oldest. Please answer me again on my talk page.50.136.139.204 (talk) 10:03, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

I never said that they were eligible to win an AFL Championship or that they were in the AFL. There are other teams that have never won an NFL Championship but have won an AFL Championship. The Vikings are the oldest team to have never won either (not including their 1969 NFL Championship, which Wikipedia has determined doesn't count the same as other NFL Championships). How can I include this in the article? Please answer me on my talk page. It may violate NOR, but it can easily be verified and is "common knowledge." Not EVERY bit of information on Wikipedia has a source.50.136.139.204 (talk) 10:06, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Again, easily verifiable and "common knowledge." The St. Louis Blues article also has NO LINK supporting its assertion that they're the oldest NHL franchise without a championship, but it is common knowledge. Please answer on my talk page.50.136.139.204 (talk) 10:09, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

First, these are all the same thing so you don't need to a new header for each one. Next Wikipedia entries need WP:RS. The entries you are making are WP:OR and WP:SYNTH. What is needed is significant coverage in WP:SECONDARY sources. Otherwise this is just WP:INDISCRIMINATE info. MarnetteD|Talk 15:03, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Many thanks Sundayclose. A plush anything would be nice but these "best wishes" will have to do - and, in fact, are more heartwarming!! MarnetteD|Talk 19:06, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

I, Claudius

I removed Category:Novels by Robert Graves because it's parent to Category:I, Claudius. --Antiquary (talk) 17:04, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to explain this Antiquary. I am not sure how a reader is supposed to know that and, to my eyes, it is a non-diffusing category situation. But that is just me so please feel free to restore your edit - if you haven't already that is. Cheers and have a nice week. MarnetteD|Talk 17:11, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Hello again Antiquary. I want to add that if I were only a reader of wikiartcles I would like to have the cat "Novels by XXXX" to click on. Otherwise I would have to click on the authors names and then scroll through their page to find a list of their works (and sometimes that requires a further click if there is a separate article for those) so IMO it is easier to have the cat. Again this is just me but I wanted to pass it along to you as food for thought. 17:22, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I was just applying the rules, but now I'm not sure how useful this one is in this case. I'll leave well alone. --Antiquary (talk) 17:36, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply Antiquary. I do appreciate your listening to (er I mean reading) my thoughts about this. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 18:44, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi G. Thanks for the congrats. Congrats to you as well as you keep moving up the list! And you are welcome for the item on your talk page. The pic is wonderful. It reminds me of this documentary Horatio's Drive: America's First Road Trip which takes place the same year. If it is available to you I think you would find it enjoyable. Enjoy the rest of your week! MarnetteD|Talk 15:25, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
I peaked at 192 a couple of days ago. There are now sufficient fast-movers (Severo, Tony1, TheRedPenOfDoom, Trappist the monk, Lord Cornwallis, Beyond My Ken) on my tail that I won't be able to keep ahead of them, I've already dropped to 193 when TAnthony passed me the very next day.

NI Rape addict - again!

Hello MarnetteD, Just to inform you that our disturbed "rape addict" has emerged again under IP 31.54.250.128 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), with the usual nonsense - although I'm concerned about the contribution on The Searchers Talk page. I have reported the latest to Ponyo who will no doubt block this address. I'm just wondering if there is any more we can do to stop this person. Going to open a bottle of wine now (day early!) best regards, David, David J Johnson (talk) 21:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the update David J Johnson. Your vigilance in this is always appreciated. I recently discovered that they are making wine scented candles. I think they would be perfect for the moment that the question comes up "Did you just spill a glass" - "No honey, I just lit a candle" HeeHee MarnetteD|Talk 22:27, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Whaddya think? BMK (talk) 15:07, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

I am not quite sure BMK. The articles seem new (to my knowledge but I could be wrong) but the editing is familiar. Bears watching though. MarnetteD|Talk 17:45, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, just keep on eye on them, I will too. BMK (talk) 00:25, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
HomerSimpson543 also bears watching - could be related, but that subject area is lousy with socks. BMK (talk) 21:32, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
There was a sock that used a name from the show before Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bigshowandkane64/Archive#23 July 2015 BMK. Thanks for the update. MarnetteD|Talk 22:16, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
I just saw the list of socks caught by the checkuser and your sense of things was correct BMK. As ever thanks for your vigilance and your work here at WikiP. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 17:15, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

December 2015

The reason why I have changed the parameters of the infobox for Doctor Who episodes is so, when more than one Doctor features in an episode, the infobox says Doctors, rather than just Doctor, making it more correct.Theoosmond(talk)(warn) 23:43, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

You should have read my edit summary - "it is 90 minutes long which means it gets Italics - there is long time WP:CONSENSUS for this". TV episodes of feature film length like this one get italics. This is the very same policy and guideline that is used for Doctor Who (film). I know that you are working to improve the DW articles but please be aware that the Wikiproject for Dr Who has been around for over a decade and its MOS has been developed and refined in that time. If you have questions about why things are the way they are your best bet is to post questions at the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Doctor Who. MarnetteD|Talk 00:27, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
OK, got that, but I don't remember seeing an edit summary like that.Theoosmond(talk)(warn) 00:50, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
The summary is right here. It was made a couple hours before you next edit to the article. While I can understand how you might have missed it you could have researched things before you opened this thread. I'll just say again it is always better to ask questions as you learn the ins and outs of editing. No one is expected to know everything and I have been here for over ten years and am still learning new things all the time. MarnetteD|Talk 01:03, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates

Hey MarnetteD! Thank you as always for kicking ass clearing out Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates and working with me on preparing the bot! However right now, as in today until about midnight GMT (4 hours from now), I'm doing some testing with the bot off of production data. So I was wondering if we could leave the pages in that category be, then I'll manually fix using whatever the bot came up with in order to see if it worked. I figure this is the best way to do testing, as moving the pages over to testwiki one by one is tedious. I will do the same procedure tomorrow from about 16:00 GMT to 00:00 GMT, but I'll be offline during the weekend. If you could work around those hours that'd be super helpful. Thanks! MusikAnimal talk 20:35, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

I'll be happy to leave things so you can work on your project MusikAnimal. You might drop me a note when you are done - especially if you run long on either day - but no worries if you don't have the time or if you forget. Cheers MarnetteD|Talk 20:40, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
