Cincinnati Chili revert edit

Yes, this was my first attempt at editing, but it was not done to try to practice. Delhi Chili is no longer open, the owner died. I just wanted to update the article to reflect this information.

Iluvekats (talk) 00:41, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Iluvekats You need to have a source to reflect this. Saying that you "know them/are a customer" is original research. Also, it is more suitable to use the sandbox for any editing tests, rather than articles. Lupin VII (talk) 00:43, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
The owner died, the building was sold several years before he died, it was Delhi Chili, not Deli Chili[1] Can you please fix the article to reflect that he is gone?

Warnings edit

In the past day or so I've declined to act on several reports you made at WP:AIV as the editors were not sufficiently warned. There are four levels of warnings for vandalism, and in most cases it is appropriate to go through all of them, and in most cases a final warning is necessary before a block. Users with only 2 or 3 unproductive edits should not generally be reported as vandalism-only accounts. Obviously in some cases the vandalism is so egregious that it warrants an immediate block, but this is not the normal procedure. The vandalism policy has some more detailed information. Thanks for helping us fight vandalism, and I hope this information helps. Cheers. – bradv🍁 20:05, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Rollback granted edit

Hi Lupin VII. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have temporarily enabled rollback on your account until 06:06, 14 October 2019 (UTC). Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! TheSandDoctor Talk 06:10, 14 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Trials are not something that I would normally give, but your reverts are good. What has given me pause is your account's age and the recent talk page discussion about AIV reports. Please be careful when making reports to sufficiently warn users first. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out/ping me. After the right expires, you may re-request it indefinitely at WP:PERM. --TheSandDoctor Talk 06:10, 14 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Question regarding reporting username violations edit

Hello. I was going through the user creation log, and noticed quite a few names coming up that are blatant violations of the username policy. Such as the one I reported to WP:UAA. My question is do we need wait, including the most egregious violations, until they edit to report? Thanks. Lupin VII (talk) 04:07, 19 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yes, we usually won't block accounts that haven't made any edits, as they aren't being disruptive. – bradv🍁 04:16, 19 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Noted. Lupin VII (talk) 06:18, 19 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
You sure it was noted? Because I just declined three reports from you on users with no edits. Dropping standard template below. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:46, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

WP:UAA reports on users with no edits edit

Generally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations such as names of organizations or products need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports.

I also declined two other reports that were poorly reasoned. Please re-review the WP:USERNAME and WP:UAA/I, thanks. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:45, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Beeblebrox I've re-reviewed the policies and will follow them from now on. It just seems that some administrators have a lower tolerance for violators. Snce I keep running into this issue, I will follow the policies from here on. Sorry about taking up your time. Lupin VII (talk) 05:02, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Query about previous accounts edit

Hi, what other accounts have you edited under? I'm aware of logged out editing before you created this account, but that was not the editing of a new user either. To put it a bit mildly, there's no way that you have not had a previous account, and "I edited logged out" is not a sufficient explanation in my opinion. TonyBallioni (talk) 00:43, 20 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Naoko Yamada edit

I've semi protected the article for two days. A content dispute is not vandalism. Horribly performed edits which break formatting are incompetence, not vandalism. Please don't leave vandalism warnings on the user page of an editor who is not clearly vandalising, no matter how awful their edits. Please report edit warring to WP:3RR. If the editor continues in removing content and arguing about her birth year after the protection expires, it still isn't vandalism; it's disruptive editing, and should probably be taken to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Alternatively, you can request semi protection for a longer period to allow the editor to find something else to do (like maybe even read the rules.) KillerChihuahua 20:34, 1 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request for admin assistance edit

This[3] IP was blocked earlier for disruptive editing by C.Fred. I did some digging, and noticed that the same type of disruptive editing from the same range had been done under another IP that is now blocked.[4][5][6][7][8] I asked C.Fred if it would be possible to block this range, to which I got no response. Now that same range was taking part in a multi-IP attack on Stefon Diggs.[9][10] Would it still be possible to range block this IP range? Whoever is behind the disruptive editing is probably not done yet. Thank you for your time. Lupin VII (talk) 02:05, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

I don't typically do range blocks. This may be an issue better addressed to WP:AN/I. —C.Fred (talk) 02:08, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
In order to block both of the addresses in the 2600:1017:B800:: range, one would have to block 2600:1017:b800::/37, which is far too large of an IPv6 range to block except in extraordinary circumstances. Checking those contributions, I see helpful edits in there as well as these vandals, so I don't personally see this as worth the collateral damage. If one were to try to include the range affecting the Stefon Diggs article, it would have to be 2600:1017:b000::/36, which is double the number of affected IPs, and is definitely out of the question since that's a large chunk of Verizon. My opinion is that the level of disruption doesn't warrant such a huge block, and if you feel otherwise, please post somewhere like ANI where more people can contribute to the discussion. –Darkwind (talk) 05:33, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

3RR at Nakhchivan (city) edit

Please note that your edits at this article could easily be seen as violating 3RR. None of the exemptions to 3RR apply in this case. It is not obvious vandalism, especially since the content removal was explained via edit summary. I have blocked the IP not for vandalism but for the 3RR violation. I am not blocking you because I think you believed exemption #4 applied, especially in light of your AIV report, but please be careful in the future when a person is trying to reasonably explain their edits. –Darkwind (talk) 07:10, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Darkwind They were not attempting to explain their edits. They just kept copy/pasting the same thing. Per WP:3RRNO, "edits that any well-intentioned user would agree constitute vandalism, such as page blanking...". I'm pretty sure that their edits fall under that exemption. Lupin VII (talk) 07:15, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I take that back, as I'm pretty sure I'm wrong. Sorry, Darkwind. Lupin VII (talk) 07:25, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!
