Category:British people of Irish descent

Hi. I've removed the Irish descent category you added to David Murphy (footballer), and out of courtesy I should explain why. Firstly, you were quite right to supply a source for the category, I wish more people realised they're supposed to do that! But, if you look at the page Category:British people of Irish descent, you'll see it says that In accordance with Wikipedia:Categories, the applicability of the category should be based on a consensus that the connection to Ireland is important enough to include in the article text before this category can properly be considered. In this case, Mr Murphy describes himself as "English through and through", and mentions the Irish great-grandparent in the interview you cite, only to disprove any speculation about him possibly qualifying for other national teams. So although the Irish connection exists, it really isn't important enough to go in the article text, and so shouldn't go in the categories either. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough. I have edited the body of the article to reflect the fact that people have looked into whether he is eligible for Ireland and Scotland. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 15:34, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Brash

If you're also of the opinion that the league wasn't fully pro, why did you remove the prod tag with the rationale that he passes WP:ATHLETE (played in a fully pro league)? If it's to do with the cups thing, that is irrelevant to the criteria. Cheers, пﮟოьεԻ 57 11:56, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking that he played for a few years with Raith Rovers, who have been fully professional at times over the last 20 years. But this article confirms that he was never fully professional. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 12:05, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Good evidence. Would you mind re-instating the prod? Cheers, пﮟოьεԻ 57 12:11, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
I swear this article was cursed. I am a prod patroller and when checking an article that has been prodded I check the article history to see if a prod was removed before, or had survived AfD, etc. I saw that twice the prod was re-added, and removed the prod. Then, I looked closer and realized the people who re-added the prod in each case was the person who removed it! So of course I re-added the prod myself, the prod isn't contested if the person objecting changes his mind. The prod expires today so the article should be deleted. -- Atamachat 21:31, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Professional league, professional club, part-time professional players. There's nothing amateur about it. Foxtrot1985 (talk) 17:26, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
The key word in what I said was fully. All the clubs in the bottom two divisions of the Scottish Football League are semi-professional. Their players have day jobs and only train two nights a week. Please read WP:ATHLETE and WP:FOOTYN. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 19:10, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Kingdom of Scotland?

Hi Ive been trying to change the Kingdom of Scotland Article to make it reflect on the modern Kingdom as well as the past to promote Scottish Independance and to identify Scotland as a kingdom, not a seperatist region. I see from your user page that you also support Scottish Independance so I would ask you to please stop reverting my changes as we are on the same side in this.81.79.221.243 (talk) 13:41, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

My views have nothing to do with it. The Kingdom of Scotland is a historic state, it no longer exists and it has not existed since 1707. See Kingdom of Great Britain, Kingdom of England, etc. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 13:43, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

North-East Derby

The reason why it is listed as a derby match is because it is considered a derby by fans of both Aberdeen and also by fans of Inverness Caley Thistle due to the fact that it is the closest thing to a local rivalry that Inverness have in the SPL and it spans the fact that when Caley first got into the SPL, they had a lot of ex-Aberdeen players in their squad - eg. Dennis Wyness, Russell Duncan & Stuart McCaffrey - and also due to the fact that ICT ground-shared at Pittodrie.

There are also currently a few ex-Dons involved with the Caley team - Phil McGuire, Craig Brewster, Markus Paatelainen & Ryan Esson. -Dreamweaverjack (talk) 16:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough if you want to list it as a derby, but I'm certain that it's a term that hardly anybody will have heard of. I'm a football fan and hadn't heard of it until I read it on here. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 17:45, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Charlie Richmond (referee)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Charlie Richmond (referee), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Charlie Richmond (referee) seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Charlie Richmond (referee), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

You and oldelpaso have been the two editors providing counter points to my image query which have given me cause for thought, Domiy doesnt appear to be making a positive contribution to the discussion. Would it be possible for you to argue against the flag being "acceptable for encylopedic purposes" (WP:NFCC), rather than for the logo. The merits of the logo are quite clear and if licencing was not an issue, it would be my first choice, however this is WP, and it has aims. Thanks Fasach Nua (talk) 12:48, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Scott Ramsey (Scottish footballer)

I see you want to delete Scott Ramsey (Scottish footballer). I think it's a fairly decent page with referenced information. I've seen worse pages. And for the record, I did't know he was a killer when I created it so my original intention was to write about his football career, not a murder. Please explain why you want to delete it. - WölffReik —Preceding undated comment was added at 17:29, 18 September 2008 (UTC).

I didn't think he had played professionally, and therefore would have failed WP:ATHLETE. The next editor has provided a source which says he played for Partick Thistle, a professional team in Scotland, so I won't pursue the nomination. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 17:31, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Scotland_Wembley_1977.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Scotland_Wembley_1977.jpg. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 05:41, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Scottish football

Hi there, I notice you have done a lot of excellent work on Scottish football. There is a question I would like to ask you. Why do the infoboxes for players state that appearances and goals are for the domestic league only? I find it makes it more difficult to find this information rather than goals scored in all competitions. Should the domestic goals statement be taken literally? Cheers. Thanks for your reply. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong websites. Hello again. I've come to you with a little bit of a dillema about Paul Wilson (Scottish footballer) and his Indian hertage. I always thought I knew he was half Indian, and when I looked for a source to confirm this I found this one. That was that I thought, then I came across this source looking like Paul Wilson telling the story himself and saying he had an Irish/Scottish father and a Dutch/Portugese mother. As I said, a dillema. Any advice on which source I should go with? ThanksTitch Tucker (talk) 20:18, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I already had the information and source on his place of birth, it was his racial mix that was puzzling me. Request to move article List of foreign footballers who played for Scotland incomplete

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page List of foreign footballers who played for Scotland to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added a place for discussion at the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved. This can easily be accomplished by adding {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the page, which will automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 07:02, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Cambusbarron Rovers Amateur Football Club

Sometime ago you were responsible for the deletion of Cambusbarron Rovers Amateur Football Club. I just wonder why you have not proposed deleting others like Bannockburn, Glasgow Harp, Danderhall MW who are at best an equal standing or in the case of Danderhall, a very much minor club in the amateur game in scotland. Cambusbarron Rovers three scottish cup wins were all played at Hampden indeed they beat the illustrious Queens Park in the 68 final and Queens had nine of their twelve players stripped that day with first team experience. The competition is entered each year by around 700 teams from the length and breadth of Scotland. Cambusbarron have consistently competed at the serious end of this competition and their record in National and district cups is second to none in the amateur game. I would like to suggest you look at their website and at least get some idea of what you are talking aboutSlippy lizard (talk) 21:55, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Scott McGrory

Just letting you know that I removed the prod you put on the Scott McGrory article as the reason was that his time at Barnsley F.C. was not cited and I have been able to add a citation to that effect. However given that, although he was at Barnsley, he made no appearances for the club I am not sure if this means it should be deleted anyway as I think there is some clause about footballers having to actually play for professional clubs to be notable, rather than just being on their books. But, as I say, I'm not sure so I'll leave that up to you. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know so as you didn't think I was one of those nuisances who goes around removing prods for no reason. Opinion welcomed

Soccer-holic and I are trying to improve league articles in general, especially when talking about colors used in league standings. We are thinking that codes (colors) should be unified and used in the same way in all articles. So take a look at this Soccer-holic's subpage: User:Soccer-holic/League season article, which explains parts which every league articles should consist of, as well as using the colors in the right order and code. Please leave your comments and improvements (if needed) so we can take the final proposal to the community on Wikipedia:WikiProject Football.

Jimmy Murrays

Hi, noticed your moves of the Scottish Jimmy Murrays. When I created the more obscure Scottish Jimmy Murray, I deliberately put him at (Scottish footballer born 1880) and left the existing (Scottish footballer) where he was, as outlined at WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. As (in my opinion, anyway) the existing (Scottish footballer) is clearly the primary topic among Scottish Jimmy Murrays, being a well-known player and Scotland international. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:07, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Template:Main

As per the template documentation, Template:Main is to be used at the top of summarised sections to link to the article it summarises (e.g. see Aston_Villa_FC#Stadium). It is not to be used at the top of an article to link to a 'parent' article, as you did for 1959 Scottish League Cup Final. Admittedly the name of the template makes it ambiguous (personally I think it should be called sub-article or something similar), but this is currently the correct usage nevertheless. Hope this is helpful, cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 13:23, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

junior footballers

could you change it? the sjfa players thing would work, but it's not allowing me the option to change the title! Salty1984 (talk) 13:21, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

Steven Fletcher

Steven Fletcher does not play for your team anymore; stop changing the infobox! All Burnley players use the 'Football player infobox' not 'Football player infobox 2'

LOI prods

I see that you have been prodding LOI footballers due to their WP:ATHLETE failure, but then after the prods are unjustifiably removed, not taking them to AfD - is this because you don't have the time, or are you planning to take them at some point in the future? пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:23, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

DYK for John Brown (footballer born 1915)

On July 16, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article John Brown (footballer born 1915), which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Seamus Coleman

I'm not sure, to be honest. I closed it as Delete on the basis of the LoI being non-pro, but then was sent sources showing that it was, which rendered my close invalid. I'm guessing that WP:DRV would probably be the best place to send it. Black Kite 16:28, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Tim Wooding, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Assessment

Hi J - I noticed that you reverted my C class assessment of the Gerry Taggart article. I upgraded it to C class based on the the current assessment criteria. I thought it was much closer to the Yma Sumac article that is being used as an example of a C class article (as opposed to the Start class example here). No big deal, but I wanted to point out why I had upgraded the assement prior to the revert. Happy editing...--Jezebel'sPonyoshhh 19:54, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Smith dab

I'm currently dabbing "Gordon Smith" to "Gordon Smith (politician)" using AutoWikiBrowser, so you don't have to do it by hand. -Rrius (talk) 20:37, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

The pages with transclusions of templates that used to link to Gordon Smith will take a while to stop showing up in the "What links here" for Gordon Smith, but that should be fine by tomorrow. I was also spotty about non-article namespace links, but they don't really need to be changed, anyway. (Some aren't even supposed to be.) I think it's all done, but it'll be easier to tell tomorrow. -Rrius (talk) 21:15, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Page Deletion

I don't understand why you deleted the article on Ewan Moyes. What was the point? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arsenallivi (talkcontribs) 20:26, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

But Livingston have a squad full of professional footballers. Every player, who is at least contracted to Livingston, are professionals. They are a professional football team that just happen to play in that league. Even so, all that is required is for the page to be edited surely? Not deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arsenallivi (talkcontribs) 22:52, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes I know, I agree with you. However, the situation at Livingston is different, they are the only full time club in the 2nd and 3rd division. Moyes may not be a professional (this would make him the only semi-pro footballer at Livingston), however that doesn't explain why the article needed to be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.241.225.193 (talk) 12:50, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Football hooliganism article

Hi JMorrison, is that in ref to the lizard king? Anyway i have a dispute with someone on the article in question about his entry into the 'Ireland' section. If you were to read it you will see what i mean, it is largely unsourced, pov, and uses youtube as a ref. I tried to undo it but dont want to get into another edit war, i have already asked another editor (admin) for help but to no reply. Thanks if you can help(Monkeymanman (talk) 15:05, 30 October 2009 (UTC))

sorry another editor has taken this up with the person. Thanks anyway(Monkeymanman (talk) 23:56, 1 November 2009 (UTC))

AfD nomination of Alan Black (disambiguation)

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Alan Black (disambiguation). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alan Black (disambiguation). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:13, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Edit war

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. Uffiziuzi (talk) 23:08, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

James McDonaugh

Just a friendly note on James McDonaugh. An IP editor added a {{hangon}} tag after you prodded the article, so I assume they meant to contest the prod and I've removed both the prod and hangon tag. Feel free to take it to AfD. Cheers!--Fabrictramp | talk to me 17:38, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

UEFA ELITE STADIA

What makes you think that Celtic park was 4 Star? I think you will find that the only difference between the now historic 5* and 4* rating was to do with capacity. Ibrox and Hampden were both 5* there were no 4* stadia in Scotland. I know that Ibrox is now classified as elite as I have a link to Rangers that says so: http://www.rangers.premiumtv.co.uk/page/tours/0,,5,00.html "FOLLOW in the footsteps of Rangers Legends on an Ibrox tour and experience the magic of this world famous UEFA Elite stadium!"

If you can prove that Celtic park is on the UEFA elite provide a source, but it isn't on the list as it does not meet the requirements. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.180.162.193 (talk) 23:28, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Elite_stadium

It does not state that UEFA elite stadia was required to host UEFA cup final only EUROPA and Champions league finals. 86.180.162.193 (talk) 23:37, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

As I said before, provide the evidence that Celtic park was 4* or is now on an elite list. 86.180.162.193 (talk) 23:44, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Your statements: " I have read the article and I don't see anything in the regulations which mean that Celtic Park isn't also an elite stadium." - What even though you were trying your hardest not to allow Ibrox to be described as elite, even when evidence was presented. " I'm not stating that Celtic Park is a UEFA Elite stadium, as I have no evidence of this either way. " - What you just declared that you could see no reason why it wasn't "You are definitively stating that it is NOT." - Correct. It isn't. I can probably make many statements of fact that you don't like, does not make them wrong.

I know that Celtic park isn't a UEFA elite stadium. My view was simple, I can provide a reliable source that states Ibrox is Elite and can not find one which states Celtic park is elite. If you want to say Celtic park is elite provide the proof. Maybe you could email Celtic football club or UEFA to ask them. Encyclopaedias are to provide facts, accurate information, even if you don't like it. 86.180.162.193 (talk) 00:04, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
