Some tips for you! edit

Hi Jeevanantham Karunanithi, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:Jeevanantham Karunanithi/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you. Pesky (talkstalk!) 12:17, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

How references work edit

Simple references edit

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References ==
{{reflist}}

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Jeevanantham Karunanithi/reftest and try it out.

Named references edit

Chzz was born in 1837. <ref name=MyBook>
"The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009.
</ref>

Chzz lives in Footown.<ref name=MyBook/>

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates edit

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation
 | last = Smith
 | first = John
 | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century
 | publication-date = 2001
 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]]
 | page = 125
 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4
}}
</ref>

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.

Something to make your life easier! edit

Hi there Jeevanantham Karunanithi! I've just come across one of your articles, and noticed that you had to create titles for your url links manually, or were using bare urls as references.

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. Happy editing! Speedy deletion nomination of File:Engeu080811 8.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Engeu080811 8.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please undo your edits! edit

Hello Jeevanantham, you've added that certain actors have won ITFA Awards for the years 2004-2007 based on the list on this and this page. Sorry, to disappoint you, apparently no ITFA has been given during these years, the lists were fake, I have correct them again. You were too hasty and have added this on the pages of several actors. I would like to request you to undo your edits on the pages such as Suriya, Karthi, Ajith Kumar, Priyamani etc. Thank you! Johannes003 (talk) 20:35, 6 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Velayudham edit

the source you have updated in velayudham article is a reliable source but it affects the neutrality of the article and they have not reported a proper collection report to prove their claim like they reported clearly in 7aum arivu article so we have removed it .The same thing goes with Mankatha as well that it was a loss making venture for the producers despite collecting 50 crores at the boxoffice .This sentence could not be added in Mankatha article because they have not reported proper collection report like 7aum arivu.A collection report is more important than a just a sentence that the film is a hit or flop as per wiki rules — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bothiman (talkcontribs) 06:18, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Good work! edit

Hey Jeevanantham Karunanithi, first of all I would like to say that you are doing some good work here. Nice to see that you are continuously updating film and film related articles. Keep it on! Two points I noticed: 1) It is advisable not to open new articles for all films hastily. Some films might already have been shelved, some might simply fail notability guidelines (if there are no or hardly any sources available, that film is unnotable and doesn't need an article) or it is too soon to open create a new article. Venkat Prabhu's Untitled Project is still in its pre-production stage, hence it fails WP:NFF and may get deleted. And 2) I see you taking over claims from websites without making any changes. Try rewording certain sentences, so they make sense in context. :) Otherwise, continue your good work! Cheers! Johannes003 (talk) 13:50, 4 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey, could you take a bit more care with your edits - recently you added Sasanam to the filmography of Madhavan - some troll had obviously edited the Sasanam page and inserted a fictional plot adding Rajinikanth and Madhavan to the proceedings! Obviously you were also fooled into believing so - hence take care in the future and check for verification online before making such edits. :) Editor 2050 (talk) 13:49, 5 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Promotional song edit

Hi, who are you to make a judgement on whether it's a part of their body of work or not? The rule of thumb for this issue is taken form the case of the Hindi film Alag (2006), where an appearance in a promotional song does count toward their body of work. File permission problem with File:First look.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:First look.jpg, which you've sourced to Times of India. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Hello edit

Hi, i was wondering about why you moved the article Dhamarukam to Damarukam. If you do know Telugu, then you must know that there is a difference between da (ద) and dha (ఢ). The title is pronounced with the later. If you could, please look at the Telugu article Dhamarukam, which clearly shows how its spelled. Do reply back, thanks - Krzna (talk) 00:33, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

And also the film has been listed as Dhamarukam at IMDb. I don't see any reason to change the title. Krzna (talk) 00:43, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

  Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Shamna Kasim, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please stop editing without a summary! You have been told n times and yet you fail to follow!!! Your edits could be considered disruptive and repeatedly doing so will have you blocked. Understand?! Proposed deletion of N. R. Raghunanthan edit

The article N. R. Raghunanthan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP: Notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Not again! edit

Hey dear, Yen Endral Kadhal Enben is nothing but the Telugu film Endukante Premanta. It does not need a separate article. If there are not considerable changes in the cast, crew, the story or the script, there is absolutely no need to create an article, that is just called a replica of an already existing article, and Wikipedia doesn't like replicas of existing articles. So please do refrain from recreating that page. There are many other films that do not have articles yet, you may work on them if you wish! I think you are long enough editing here to understand this. Have a nice day!! Johannes003 (talk) 16:24, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Raindropss.png edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Raindropss.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Senator2029 ‖ Talk 19:35, 27 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Moodar Koodam edit

The article Moodar Koodam has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of meeting film notability criteria outlined at WP:MOVIE.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

- Vianello (Talk) 20:24, 6 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Moodar Koodam edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Moodar Koodam, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Alexf(talk) 12:29, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Prakash musician.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Prakash musician.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included.

Proposed deletion of Simhasanam (2012 film) edit

The article Simhasanam (2012 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable film, nothing found in a WP:BEFORE to help this pass WP:NFILM

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
