Also, I'm spending the next few days adding the Cherokee Language and Syllabary to specific topics and words where appropriate so if you run into anything on the Cherokee that looks like it may need it added let me know. I'm currently running down the nav template. GenQuest - I'm sorry to drop in randomly, but my name is Clark, and I'm a fellow member of the American Revolutionary War task force over at WP:MILHIST. I've got an article (Robert Howe (Continental Army officer)) under A-Class review at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Robert Howe (Continental Army officer). It's having a hard time attracting reviews, and is in danger of being closed out for lack of interest despite having one full support. Would you mind giving it a comprehensive review? Lanka Premier League AfDs

Hi, hope you are well. In the AfD nomination of Galle Gladiators in 2020 you included Kandy Tuskers, Jaffna Stallions, Colombo Kings, Dambulla Viiking, List of umpires and captains. On the other hand, you also created a separate AfD page for each of the article stated above. However, I wante to ask you that should we redirect other AfD nominations to Galle Gladiators in 2020 AfD nomination? There'd be a single page for all the articles of LPL. If you agree then I think it would be fine to do so. Whereas in the separate AfD pages, it's difficult and a burden to vote for each article separately one by one. Thank you. I am going to object to this on the basis that each article should have a chance to be retained based on merit. When you pull these together into one AfD you run the risk of having an article deleted that could have been saved had it been evaluated on its own. You could also, potentially, have articles retained that would otherwise be deleted. I am not a fan of doing this under normal circumstances. --ARoseWolf (Talk) 13:13, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

I see no rule stated there. That states how you can bundle AfD's if you feel they should be. That denotes the possibility you may feel they shouldn't be. It also says this in bold letters If you're unsure, don't bundle it. Hardly sounds like a rule or requirement as you have presented it. GenQuest did not break a rule or do anything improper by submitting each as individual AfD's. The only one conflating issues here is the one crying foul and projecting their own subjective views as Wikipedia policy/rules. Clearly not the case. --ARoseWolf (Talk) 16:34, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Why do they always resort to personal attacks about a person's intelligence and comprehension skills when they are faced by someone who calls them out on their false sense of superiority? It's clear to me that Gen attempted to link them together. However, he also may have thought best to leave them as individual AfD's so they could be, each, judged on their own merits. I won't pretend to assume Gen's intentions as he hasn't expressed them directly. The reason you even came here to spew your unwanted and unsolicited personal opinion on what Gen should or could do is what is baffling. The bundle wasn't completed properly by me, although I thought I had followed the convoluted directions. I don't do these things too often, but ran across the articles and the issues with them. In my haste to keep multiple editors from wasting time on these and facing a RL personal deadline, I got the process wrong. Apologies. That said, it's too late at this point to redirect the components to the bundle discussion, so they can just be separate discussions. The closer will take that into consideration. Thomas Sowell Tags

Good Morning GenQuest,

I wanted to chat with you about your addition of Better Source tags to this article. I agree that quite a few could use a better source (some are just Townhall searches of everything written by the author there). But the areas where I removed the Better Source tag were uses where the reference was citing the author's opinion directly. Per [WP:RSP]'s list of sources, "opinion pieces in Townhall are reliable as a source for the opinion of the author of the individual piece..." The second tag removed was a reference to the fact that he contributed pieces to their site. Surely their author's biography page would be a sufficiently reliable source for that. The same [WP:RSP] argument could be made for the Washington Times and National Review tags. These are references to specific pieces to cite the author's specific opinion on a topic and fall within the realm of the reliable for those sources per the summary notes.

I hope this clarifies my edits a bit, I'm curious your thoughts on my points and, more importantly, your concerns on removing the tags.

Hello, Squatch347. Thanks for dropping by. I marked all the Townhall refs as "Better Ref Needed", as they were flagged by the 'Cite Unseen' gadget. That Sowell page lit up like a Christmas tree when I passed by it. At the time, I didn't have time to verify each reference item, but if you have found a few that are directly attributed to him (no editorial comments or tweaking involved), those tags can be removed. I certainly trust your discretion in the matter as I hope—but can't promise—to do a review of the article's references this coming weekend. The Times and Nat Review, however, have been totally knocked down to barely useable for referencing (WaTim just recently). Check out List of unreliable sources. Ahh, that makes sense. I think what I'll do is for any that I think can be safely removed, I'll remove them each with individual edits and a brief synopsis as to the rationale. Ok, I went through and was able to purge all but one of the tags (often by replacing the generic link to his bio page with an actual reference). Most I feel pretty good about, there is a group of uses I'm a bit less certain on. It is in the scenario where it says "the author has written on X" and the link (now) directly links to an article example where he has written on the topic. Thoughts? @GenQuest: I keep bouncing around, I know. I think I will just post about the everything here so we can keep it in one location from now on. Here[3] is a completely unscientific list of settlement names but every little addition helps. This[4] is a good reference to Brown's Town, as well as others, in Alabama. Here[5] is another. May have to open a cache version. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Adding towns

Etowah; the many

GenQuest, The map provided with the list is pretty confusing. It shows Chatuga down near Etowah but most maps have it further up along the Chatuga Creek between Lookout Town and New Echota/Oostanaula/Ustanali (The Cherokee "Metropolis" as I like to call it). One of the Etowah's we have listed is most likely also called Hightower or High Town which is near the hill (Myrtle Hill) where the Battle of Hightower took place. It could be that the other site, which is much further east than Rome and where Hightower or Etowah is located, is the town of Two Runs or Six's Town which does appear on some maps east of Etowah and on the south side of the Etowah River which would potentially put it across from the mounds south of modern day Cartersville. I pulled this from an old print of the Cherokee Phoenix in regards to the boundary line between the Cherokee and Creeks: "Turkey Town on the Coosa River is the lowest down the river where there has been any Cherokee settlements that he knew of, they settled that place on both sides of the river about forty years since-about 8 or 10 miles below the junction of Hightower and Oostanali, is the Turnip Mountain town settled o both sides of the Coosa River, that place has been settled about thirty years since. The village of Two Runs, about ten miles above the fork of the river, Hightower and Oostinalee were settled thirty years since. The old Hightower Town on the south side of the river twenty miles above the junction of the rivers was settled when I first came to the country forty-seven or eight years since. The Six's Village about thirty -eight miles above the junction of the rivers was settled on both sides of the river about 30 years since. The Red Bank Village about six miles above the Six's was settled on both sides of the river; this place was settled about two years after he came to the country. Hickory Log Village, two miles above Red Bank, has been settled on both sides of the river about 30 years since. The Long Swamp Village bout 12 miles above Hickory Log was settled on both sides about 35 years since-besides the villages before mentioned, there are numbers of Cherokee families settled and living all through the country out from the river, on the south side of the Hightower as far up and down as the villages are settled." It looks like a sworn statement provided to the Cherokee courts upper circuit.

Hightower River is Etowah River.

Down is west to southwest and above is east to northeast following the direction of the rivers.

The old Hightower Town is a completely different town. That's the only way to make sense of the statements. The new town or Hightower was built on the hills overlooking the "Hghtower" or "Etowah" River near the confluence with the Oostanaula.

One thing that strikes me is the mention of the Pumpkin Patch Village 10 miles from Old Hightower town. "George Still, a half breed Cherokee, aged about sixty years, has been born and raised in the Cherokee Nation-when he was a small boy his father and mother moved and settled a short time in the Old Hightower Town, and then moved and settled in the Pumpkin Patch Village on a creek about 10 miles from the river on the south side-they lived there one year. They then went down the country and lived with the Creeks one year, and then they returned and lived one year again in the Pumpkin Patch Village, then they moved and settled on the south side of the river opposite the mouth of Oostunnahlee" There is a creek south of the Etowah mounds called Pumpkinvine Creek. Coincidence? I don't know but its pretty convincing. I think the town south of the mounds is the Old Hightower town with Two Runs down the river towards the new Hightower and Six's Town above towards Long Swamp. --Tsistunagiska (talk) 14:18, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

I hate to say I knew about that site before but I did. I just didn't want to bring it up because you have been working so hard and we can't verify that even that is 100% accurate. I don't think there is any way we will ever get it completely right but it looks amazing now. I really appreciate you and the way you take things slow and verify before just adding it. I wish others would do the same. I always pause before posting anything on the Cherokee and ask myself what I think my ancestors would say about what we are doing to categorize their existence. Well, I think it's worth it. This article comes together from gathering clues which are really, really scattered around. I find new info, and that launches me in five different directions before getting back to where I wanted to be. My past genealogy research helps with that. I don't intend for the list to ever be "complete" before publishing it, as that just won't be possible, I think. I do want it to be good enough, and pull enough of the disparate threads of the Cherokee village story together to be a jumping off place for future researchers of the people and their society though. Creek Path or Kusa-nunahi (ᎫᏌ ᏄᎾᎯ)

GenQuest: Check out this site. It gives the description of a few Creek and Cherokee towns in Marshall County, Alabama, including an alternate or the Native name for Creek Path. It could be that it is a Creek name but it fits the Cherokee lexicon too. Part of the Cherokee for path is "nvnohi" (ᏅᏃᎯ) but the Cherokee for creek is "niladvyi" (ᏂᎳᏛᏱ) and the Creek people were called "Anigusi" (ᎠᏂᎫᏏ). It could be that the town was called "Gusi Nvnohi" (ᎫᏏ ᏅᏃᎯ) as a shortened version and later corrupted by interpretation to "Kusa Nunahi" (ᎫᏌ ᏄᎾᎯ). It fits pretty well within the parameters of what we know they did back then. Familiarizing names was common and once familiarized they were usually shortened. The "G" and "K" or "C" are interchangeable in the language. It could also be the Creek name for the town but it does very much resemble the Cherokee. --Tsistunagiska (talk) 15:21, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Cornsilk is "Unenudo" (ᎤᏁᏄᏙ) in the Cherokee language. It could be that Corn Silk the person was named "Selu Unenudi" (ᏎᎷ ᎤᏁᏄᏗ) or that could be the town name. It's sometimes difficult to decipher the pieces to know for sure. --Tsistunagiska (talk) 15:52, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Red Clay

I don't see Red Clay. It was a Cherokee town located where present day Red Clay, Georgia is. It was called Elawo’diyi (ᎡᎳᏬᏗᏱ). The apostrophe just designates a long vowel and does not appear in writing the Syllabary. "Elawodi" meaning "red earth" with one of the Cherokee descriptive roots for location or person, "-yi" or "place". Other spellings call it Elawa'diyi (ᎡᎳᏩᏗᏱ). As with some Cherokee words they are both correct and it simply is left up the preference of the speaker. --Tsistunagiska (talk) 15:06, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Interesting: Muscle Shoals ~ Daguno’hi ~ ᏓᎫᏃᎯ

Muscle Shoals, though not a town, was a location of Cherokee hunting grounds. Dagu'na means mussel and you add the location descriptive -hi to get Dagunohi. It played a significant role in the lower towns that were settled by the "Chickamauga"'s and also is the location where several prominent Cherokee purchased river boasts for the water route to Oklahoma during the years before the Trail of Tears. --Tsistunagiska (talk) 15:20, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Nickajack ~ Niquatsegi ~ ᏂᏆᏤᎩ

The Chickamauga town name was Niquatse’gi (pronounced Nee-kwa-j[ch]ay-k[g]ee). Nickajack is actually a corruption of this rather than what was called Coosa Town as indicated in the article on Nickajack. The town was attacked and burned by an army of American frontiersmen. About seventy, mostly warriors, were killed near Nickajack town and Running Water town. It led to the Chickamauga signing of the treaty of Tellico and the settling of most of what is, today, Tennessee. --Tsistunagiska (talk) 16:01, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Hello. This was not a unilateral decision on my part, unlike your revert of the careful merger work I did. The merge was done, by me, at the request of the folks at AfD. The result of the merging is out of my hands, as the merge was decided to be done by a Wikipedia community consensus, as opposed to outright deletion of the article. Alternate Versions of Supergirl Merger/Deletion

Hello Genquest, I was looking at the Supergirl a bit ago and noticed that the link to the page "alternate versions of supergirl" under the "other versions" section redirected to the Supergirl page itself, rather than to the "Alternate Versions of Supergirl" page. Upon further investigation I found the discussion that was started about the topic here (Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Alternative_versions_of_Supergirl) with the consensus being a merger. However, the page was deleted without being merged. I poked around a bit more and found that History lists you as the last one to have edited the page, wherein your comment was "Complete the merge", so I figured I would let you know. I'm rather new at Wikipedia editing, still, so I'm not sure how to recover the information that was deleted in this now deleted page, or what protocol dictates should be done in this case. Hi, CassandraPrime. Your post is fine. The content of merged pages can be found in the History Page of the source article (the one merged into the target). What you came across is a circular link, which should have been fixed during or sometime after the merge took place. Apologies for that. As far as recovering content from an article that has been merged, realize that all Reliably Sourced content should have been / has been merged to its new home. Anything left behind was either unsourced / uncited or not backed by what is considered a reliable source. You can see the merger here. As you can see, not much content was moved over. This was due to the issues above, which led to the article being put up for deletion to begin with. You are certainly encouraged to find additional sourced content to add to the target article.

Merge - need advice

Hi! As merging is not a process that I deal with often, I would like to ask for your advice on this case where I believe merger would be appropriate. While reviewing new articles at NPP, I came across these 2 - Supadmavyākaraṇa and Padmanabhadatta. The first one is a Sanskrit grammar and the second is it's creator. I started to improve the second article as I saw it first and I couldn't find significant coverage (even though he is often mentions in books and his work is important). The article about the work can be expanded as there's more analysis on it than currently presented. I thought it would be sensible to merge the articles into one Supadmavyākaraṇa and dedicate a section to the author. What do you think? Hi, Less Unless. Yes, I think a merge is appropriate here. Right now, both articles contain a large percent of duplicated materials, and share weak referencing (that I notice you are improving as we speak). The merge could probably go either way, but I lean more towards merging the Supadmavyākaraṇa article into a renamed Padmanabhadatta (but using his full name). You can merge them yourself, either BOLDLY or by going through a merge request process. Bold merges can be quickly reversed, but in this case, I think that should work. If it does get reversed, just file a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers, and we'll get more eyes on it.

Snow shoes are a must (if you visit during winter). You don't need bear spray. It attracts more bears than it deters. If you want to visit where I grew up then Tlingit will definitely help but English is fine too. If you would like to travel to where I live now you would need a guide but we have one of those. You might meet some Athabascans depending on the time of year. You can land on the lake or on the gravel airstrip and take a short ride or hike around the lake to the cabins and houses. We're about 100 miles from the closest "town" but we have plenty of supplies flown in throughout the Summer. I've been helping them organize as much as I can this year but its mostly falling on them since I am in Anchorage and may be for another month or so. Gen, when life throws you so many curves you learn to accept that's how it goes. Once you realize that then a very freeing experience occurs. You can let go of the stress and worry and focus on details most people overlook. I exist in the details of life around me. The pink puppy bow in a young girls hair as she plays on the swing set in the park a block away. It catches my attention because the ears wave at me in the wind as her father pushes her higher. She feels the sensation of flying in her stomach and loses her breath as I catch mine. I see and feel the pure emotional connection between a father and daughter, their two song's interacting in the dance of life. The crack in the sidewalk made by the shallow roots of a tree along the path to get to the park. How long has the tree been there? What is its story? It has stood watch over this ground for decades and still claims control over it between the broken pieces of concrete. A single yellow flower blooming on the side of the road. What made that particular patch of ground just perfect for that single flower to grow and bloom just so I would see it and admire its beauty? The way the sunlight bounces off the fountain across the road from my apartment at exactly 8:52pm. The fact that the sun sets between two buildings angled just right to allow that sunlight to hit the water at just that specific time to give me that spectacular view. This issue have been kind of in stand by since an editor merged the articles back in 2018, but there's an long consensus against the merge and pro the split in the Talk page. You need to have access to your authenticator or your scratch codes to disable, if you've lost those I don't think there is a way to get back in to your account, but you could ask at WP:VPT. Everything is pretty much up to date regarding tagged proposals and archiving of proposals that have been decided on (bar one query in the new merges section which I'm not sure how to answer at the moment). Wdmjun, You need to upload a new file with your modified graphic. You can:

1) start from scratch, making your own graphic file, or

2) download the existing file, make the desired cosmetic alterations, and re-upload using a new name for the file. (Be sure to give attribution to the original if you do this.)

(details) February Blitz: This one-week effort focused on requests and a theme of Africa and African diaspora history. @A WEIRD AND VERY ODD PERSON: Wikipedia does not have user profile pictures as part of its common practice. You use the Four Tildes (~~~~) for your signature, as you apparently did above. Under your Preferences button, you can create a personalized signature that includes graphic elements, but that practice is generally discouraged. Users can, however, opt to put a user Infobox on their individual user page if so desired. These can contain a picture from the file: system or commons. The code and information for implementing the template for that are in the first link below.

Fixing the problems with Two Pieces of Nuts

Hello, GenQuest. I saw the warning atop the article page and was wondering: barring the "LEDE" section, what does it mean to be an "indiscrimate list"? The extensive "See also" section? The tales listed at "See also" are other tales from the same tale type, collected and published from all over the world and separated according to geography and common motifs - of course, based on the appropriate scholarship. Historic Cherokee settlements

It's been well over a year since our collaboration on this article and I must say, it is one of the most meaningful articles I've had to privilege to work on in my short time here on Wikipedia. I am glad that it is still an article that comes to your mind from time-to-time and even more glad it is still being worked on. @ARoseWolf: It was a joy working on that article with you, too. Funny you should write today, as I was just getting ready to write you. Must be on the same brainwave or something. I took today off from work (something I never do) due to the heat, and have just attempted to de-conflate (is that even a word) the two historic Cherokee Pathkiller chiefs, in conjunction with clarifying edits to the Charles and (especially) William Hicks articles, and was about to ask you to have a go-thru to see if you think there may be additional needed. It appears one Pathkiller (buried as "Chief" Pathkiller in Alabama) was a town chief; the other Pathkiller (buried near New Echota under "Colonel" Pathkiller) was actually the Principal Chief of the Nation. Both died on January 8, just one year apart; and with both being chief, historians have conflated these two for almost 200 years. I thought today a good day to tackle this problem. If you don't mind, I would appreciate (if you get a chance) your inspection of these three articles to see if perhaps I'm confused about anything, or if there may be more to bring to the articles, especially the Pathkiller and William Hicks articles. I'm also torn about doing a new article on the Alabama Pathkiller (who I believe was chief at Turkeytown), in regard to notability and the return-on-investment time-wise due to the apparent lack of reliably identifiable information and how difficult the further separating of information may be. Let me know.

I'd heard about the confusion between the two. I read the articles during my editing of the Cherokee Nav Template where and I believe they did combine information on both or something. I also ran across an article on Pathkiller from Turkeytown. You are correct that he was the Ugvwiyuhi of Gundigaduhunyi (Headman of Turkeytown). A local historian visited his gravesite there in Alabama and wrote about him, as much as they could find anyway. They distinctly mentioned this was a different Pathkiller than the "Colonel" buried in Georgia and how many historians conflated the two. Hi GenQuest. Thank you for taking the time to close the merge discussion at Talk:Bullshit job. However, I think you made the incorrect call by closing the discussion as a 'rejection' of the merge. Instead, I think the outcome was no consensus. Of course, the factual result would be similar—both articles remain—, but I'm asking for the change because a no consensus close would allow editors in the future to reassess the question without the burden of precedent. The no consensus outcome is pretty clear to me in this case: we have 4 support/3 opposes and, as you note, "a comparable number of arguments made on both sides of the issue".
