RFA Review

I've created the page but I haven't answered the questions yet. I'll get to it later, been busy the past couple of days. Bearcat (talk) 14:24, 27 June 2008 (UTC) SAME HERE - not finished responses but will do. Plutonium27 (talk) 16:15, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Same for me too - will get to it this weekend. – ukexpat (talk) 17:14, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Likewise. I have work with a Monday deadline. --Rodhullandemu 17:21, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry Gazimoff, I couldn't find time for finishing the responses. And believe I wouldn't find time till the closing date you've mentioned. My apologies for being not able to send in the responses. Warm regards, Mrinal Pandey (talk) 05:35, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to add my voice to the chorus, but I've actually got it half done. I'll go ahead and work on finishing it up if that's all right--should be able to take care of that in the next hour or so at most. --jonny-mt 01:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
There we go--all done (and only a couple of hours lately). --jonny-mt 02:07, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Many thanks for all your contributions. I'm currently ploughing through them and hope to have a completed report ready soon. Gazimoff WriteRead 14:31, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Copyediting Crash of the Titans

I was advised by User:Jappalang to get a dedicated and capable copyeditor to go over the Crash of the Titans article (currently a GA) and help get it to A-Class or Featured Article, and you seem to fit the criteria. Sorry if you're busy, but could you go over it sometime? Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 13:39, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

I'll do my best to take a look at it sometime soon. Do you have a deadline that you'd like to get this done by? Many thanks, Gazimoff WriteRead 14:30, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Not really. I'll wait for however long it takes to get the article in tip-top shape, because I know it'll be worth it. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 22:17, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

  Thank you!
Gazimoff/Archives/2008, it is with deep awareness of the responsibility conferred by your trust that I am honored to report that in part to your support, my request for adminship passed (87/14/6). I deeply value the trust you and the Wikipedia community have in me, and I will embark on a new segment of my Wikipedia career by putting my new tools to work to benefit the entire community. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Battle realms wotw cover.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Battle realms wotw cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:05, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

In recognition of your bold efforts to clear out the accumulated fancruft in World of Warcraft and generally giving the article a much-needed top-to-bottom scrubdown. Madcoverboy (talk) 17:43, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Heh, I'm not done yet, but yes, the article does need some serious work before it can be relaunched as a GA or even FA. It's something I'll be striving to finish over the weekend, section by section. Many thanks though, it's much appreciated! Gazimoff WriteRead 17:45, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Edit war on Diablo III

I admit that my first few edits were disparate due to my inexperience, but my last few are fair;

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view it is ok to show all greater POVs, and according to http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9283, http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10294 and the one in Battle.net (that is down right now), the majority is showing bad reception to the game.

I am really trying to be neutral in my last edits, but showing everything.

The last few edits made by some people in DiabloIII article tried deriberately to remove and omit information. It seems that in the two groups in this edit war, there are many in the minority side editing this article. The majority side can be seen in the several oficial and unnoficial pools like the ones i've posted. BTW, was it ok to answer here? And, as you can see, i agreed with most of your edits, esp the last one.

Atriel (talk) 22:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Answering here is fine. and I don't neccessarily disagree with what you're trying to add, only that the way you're going about it is wrong. It's important to use talkpages, either on user talk pages, the article talkpage (better) or the wikiproject talk page (better still) in order to reach agreement on what should be included in articles, especially when there's a dispute happening. In this case, because the dispute isn't moving far on the article talkpage, you may want to raise it at Wikiproject Video Games in order to get more seasoned videogame editors to chime in with their thoughts. If they agree with you that the material is appropriate, then the content can go in. Hope this makes sense, but do ask if you have any questions. Gazimoff WriteRead 22:13, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the tip! :) Saw it today Atriel (talk) 19:11, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Someone, probably you, requested access to the account creation tool. For security purposes could you please confirm that it was you who made the request so we can approve you, thanks ——RyanLupin(talk) 12:36, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

I can indeed confirm that it was me that requested access. Hoping to help out with the requested accounts process. Many thanks, Gazimoff WriteRead 13:17, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Will do. I'll make sure I read through it carefully before using the tool. Many thanks for the quick response, Gazimoff WriteRead 13:36, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Mentoring

I was reviewing your contributions, and noticed you were looking for mentoring. You mentioned that it wasn't in the pursuit of adminship - which is excellent, since that would make me happier offering my assistance. I looked at what you were after in terms of building up your ability to assist the encyclopaedia, and reckon I could probably offer some help with Knowledge most of all, and resolving conflicts within article space as part of mediation. Not sure if you're happy splitting up your guidance like that, but if you're up for it, give me a shout on my talkpage Fritzpoll (talk) 11:27, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

That works for me. I wasn't thinking of one mentor when I originally set up the mentoring page - different people are experts in different areas and should play to those strengths. I'm definately happy with gaining your input and experience in areas that you're comfortable with. Look forward to working with you! Gazimoff WriteRead 15:01, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Great - in terms of "Knowledge" I guess you would appreciate my sentiment that it would be handy to baseline your knowledge at the moment, so that we don't end up flailing around and wasting time! Where do you want it to take place? Some subpage? Fritzpoll (talk) 19:29, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
I'd probably suggets adding it on the mentoring subpage I've already created and transcluded, under a level 3 heading so that we can collect it all together. I'd prefer to keep all my mentoring stuff in once place, if that's all right, so that I can cross-reference stuff where needed. Many thanks! Gazimoff WriteRead 08:33, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I'll make my next post there Fritzpoll (talk) 08:37, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

How did I do?

Just want to see if I did it right:Chrysler New Yorker Look at the bottom... Sorry I used a car sales webpage, but that was the only verifiable quote I could find on the convertible :( There are only 15 left on the entire planet, so finding data on it was hard...--Ace Darville (talk) 13:16, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

It's close, but not quite right. What you do is add the content you want to say into the article proper, then add the citation after it in the body text. The software Wikipedia runs on will then convert the citation into a hatnote, with the content appearing in the reference list automatically. Also, since you're citing a web page, you can use the {{cite web}} template in order to reference web pages. Hope this helps! Gazimoff(mentor/review) 13:46, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Correcting myself. You used the cite web tag, but I forgot to let you know that when adding them to body text you need to add <ref> .... </ref> around the cite template for it to be picked up as a reference. I've done this for you now in the article. Hope this helps, Gazimoff(mentor/review) 13:52, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

Open Web Foundation

The criteria for speedy deletion states: "Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether it could be improved, reduced to a stub, merged or redirected elsewhere or be handled with some other action short of deletion. If this is possible, speedy deletion is probably inappropriate. Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete".

The article was nominated for speedy deletion just minutes after its creation. I believe this is speedy nomination and that specifically no effort was made to consider if it could be improved in a way to not meet the speedy deletion criteria. Uiteoi (talk) 14:03, 25 July 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Uiteoi (talkcontribs) 14:00, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

I originally tagged the article as it was in breach of copyright (criterion G12) as my primary concern, although there was also another issue of it not specifying what makes the organisation notable (criterion A7) through the use of reliable sources. Once you had rectified the copyvio, another editor changed the speedy deletion tag to reflect a non-notable organisation [1]. However, it wasn't until another editor added references to demonstrate verifiability and notability that the article satisfied all criteria [2]. When creating new articles, you do have a responsibility to ensure that these criteria can be met, as can be demonstrated from other editors comments on the article's talk page. Hope this helps clarify things for you. Gazimoff(mentor/review) 15:00, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Added to your mentoring page

Perhaps a small exercise in the field of mediation - ignore it if you like. MEdiation will be tricky to learn on the job, as it would involve actually starting a dispute! Fritzpoll (talk) 15:05, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

I will take a look at it when I get a moment - I've been asked to take a look at acopyedit, so ti will probably be later on today. Great idea though! Gazimoff(mentor/review) 15:07, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

RFA Thanks

Thank you for participating in my RfA, Gazimoff!
I am grateful for your confidence: My RfA passed by a count of 64/3/3, so I am now an administrator! Of course, I plan to conduct my adminship in service of the community, so I believe the community has a right to revoke that privilege at any time. Thus, I will be open for recall under reasonable circumstances. If you have any advice, complaints, or concerns for me, please let me know. Thanks again! • I don't mean to bother you, but is it possible to put a border around it? If possible please write me back on my talk page. Thanks and Happy Editing Tm93 (TALK) 01:53, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Actually I don't think I want a border anymore. But I still have a question. How do I put another collapsible table inside another one? Thanks again for all of your help. If possible please write me back on my talk page. Thanks and Happy Editing Tm93 (TALK) 02:24, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't respond earlier. Yep, you can put a border around tables, and have nested tables one inside the other. The help page at WP:TABLE should contain everything you need to know. Hope this helps, Gazimoff 18:01, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Sorry to bug you. 2 questions.
  1. How do I make the collapsible table automatically show hidden? Every time I go to the page, so that I don't have to scroll for a while, I would like to just show the one that I want by clicking it. So basically what I'm asking is... is there a way to have the tables automatically hide? The page I'm having trouble with is this page. I want them to be already collapsed when I go to the page.
  2. Also correct me if I'm wrong. But as I was looking for the message section about my table issues. I noticed that someone had said that their vote may not count or something like that. Anyway; my question is can normal users vote? Or is it only already admins?

Thanks and Happy Editing Tm93 TALK 07:13, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

No problem. To answer your first question, to have a table hissen by default just change class="collapsible"to class="collapsible collapsed". I'm not sure what your second question was about - could you provide me with a link to the page where you saw the statement you quoted? Hope this helps, Gazimoff 07:20, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Re : Responding to an old comment...

Of course. I'll get down to writing up the nomination. Hang on!

Before you begin, it might be of your advantage to study the questions and dealing with them of previous RfAs, given that the current RfA is as such questions are in the situation of 'High Alert'. - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 06:45, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I will do, and I'm greatful for your suggestion. I'm going to try to do this as carefully as possible, while remaining honest and open about myself. Many thanks for this, it's much appreciated. Gazimoff(mentor/review) 06:58, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I've finished the nomination, let me know if there's anything that needs tweaking. Giggy would like to add an co-nom, if you don't mind about it. Answer the three essential questions, ensure that the RfA is procedurally correct, and you should be good to go. All the best! - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 08:01, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I will do, carefully and thoughtfully, and will probably take a while doing it. Many thanks! Gazimoff(mentor/review) 08:07, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Best Luck on your RfA

Hey there! I know you are a busy editor, and this is probably a distraction, but sometimes a break is good :D

In any case, I was lurking someones userpage and I saw your RfA. I dont know enough about you on-wiki to really vote (not that my vote carries any weight) but I thought I might as well wish you luck! (It seems to be going pretty good so far... fingers crossed :D )

Enjoy the editing and best luck again! Lucifer (talk) 19:30, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks, I appreciate it! Gazimoff 20:32, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

That's too bad. I guess that you're a bit too far from Portsmouth to join us. Axl (talk) 08:02, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Aye, possibly. I don't travel much unless required by business - I haven't been able to drive since developing Ménière's disease - but the thought is appreciated all the same. Many thanks,Gazimoff 09:20, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

I asked 3 questions on your RFA. Please answer them when you have time. Thank you. Brasil Miami Connexion (talk) 03:29, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

To respond to each of your three questions in turn
  • I hold a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Systems Engineering from the University of Surrey.
  • My time on Wikipedia varies, depending on work, social and family life. I don't set myself around a rota, but instead slot it around other aspects of my life.
  • I haven't served in the military per se, although I did spend some time in the Combined Cadet Force as a teenager. I have also worked in the fields of radar and electronic warfare previously.

Two reviews? That's very interesting - thanks very much for pointing it out. I'll give you a nudge in a week on the Edge stuff as asked. Many thanks, Gazimoff 16:02, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Different scores too, which will make things interesting when you get to the vgratings template :-) - X201 (talk) 16:08, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to report, I've checked my copies of Edge from December 2006 to April 2007 and there's nothing. I've also tried the odd copies of GamesTM that I've got lying around and there was no luck there either. Sorry. I'd try and follow the GamesTM route if you can though, they might have reviewed it for their online section. - X201 (talk) 18:01, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

No worries. I was hoping to get some print media citations in the article, but I'll go with what I can get. Thanks for looking though, it's much appreciated. Gazimoff 19:14, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
