The Living Daylights

I understand. I really need to read Wikipedia's editing guidelines more often lol. NavyBlueSunglasses (talk) 19:06, 31 March 2022 (UTC)User:NavyBlueSunglasses.

If it helps, it's not at all an uncommon thing for editors to expand plot summaries beyond the guidelines, either because they're unaware the guidelines exist or because they didn't 'check their work' after. No worries! DonIago (talk) 21:23, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Sacha Baron Cohen

In response to this, can you explain why it isn't needed here? I can't think of a reason. --IWI (talk) 01:21, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

Because per the infobox documentation, birth_name should only be used if it's different from the person's common name. DonIago (talk) 01:25, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
But it is. The full name is not his common name. --IWI (talk) 01:38, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
To my mind it's not significantly different (isn't it just a matter of whether to include the "Noam"?). You're welcome to ask for clarification at the article's Talk page, or the Talk page for the template or such, though. Ian McKellen and other articles that I've looked at don't use the birth_name parameter to include middle names. Have I misunderstood? DonIago (talk) 03:11, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
Yes you have, that is its primary use across WP. --IWI (talk) 05:33, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
The infobox currently gives the impression he was born "Sacha Baron Cohen" without the middle name, which one could easily assume he added later, despite that being wrong. --IWI (talk) 05:35, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
Again, look at Ian McKellen or multiple other articles about people; the middle name typically isn't included and the birth_name parameter isn't used. If you feel it should be, then I'd ask that you start a conversation at the Talk page for the infobox, because you appear to be arguing against how the infobox is being used in practice. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 05:56, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
I don’t find that to be true, regardless of what takes place on one particular article. This is precisely what it is used for, I believe you are mistaken. --IWI (talk) 15:09, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
Upon further review of several featured articles about persons, I believe you're correct and have reverted my edit to restore the birth_name parameter (I've also added it to McKellen's article). That said, if you had provided some examples to back up your arguments earlier, we could have avoided much of this back-and-forth. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 17:21, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
I would rather give reasons for my edits than make an OSE argument. Thank you, --IWI (talk) 15:39, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
I appreciate that OSE is problematic, but seeing that featured articles supported your argument would have made a difference. DonIago (talk) 02:34, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

Edward scissorhands genre

Hi it's me. I know there isn't an exact source but having seen the film, there are elements of drama and comedy as the film is very funny but can also be sad at times, which is why I added those two to it. Daman2728 (talk) 17:07, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

We need to go by what reliable sources say, not our own judgment; the latter is original research. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 17:32, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

Explain

Thank you and I apologize for not explaining clearly after editing. The movie Shadow of a Doubt was featured on the show Noir Alley. You can find the title of this movie with the word "Noir Alley" on youtube. There are many other movies on wikipedia that are described as Noir but this one is not so I added the word "Noir". JonnT25 (talk) 18:10, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation! DonIago (talk) 18:59, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Unseen Characters

My edit to that page was legit and honest

there are way too many episodes to go through to reference the characters I added to the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GeneralLeeStudios1991 (talkcontribs)

Happily there's no need for you to go through every episode, or any episode. You just need to cite a source that describes those characters as unseen characters. Check out some of the other entries in the list. DonIago (talk) 01:13, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail ending edit

The reason I keep adding: "(despite the three not being responsible for the murder of the historian)" is because I just want to give a more clear view to the people who watch the movie, as the real killer was no one belonging to King Arthur's group. So Arthur, Bedevere and Lancelot were wrongly arrested in the end. But I don't understand why that always gets removed? 87.211.20.184 (talk) 20:12, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

As I mentioned at your Talk page, when multiple editors are reverting you, the best place to raise the question is at the article's Talk page. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 02:37, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

Tomasz Pohl

Hello! Following a discussion on Polish Wikipedia, it was decided to remove the page Tomasz Pohl. He is an author and poet with no encyclopaedic standing, it was probably a self-promotion. Could you please report the bio Tomasz Pohl on en.wiki for removal as well? Zsuetam (talk) 07:32, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

I'm not really comfortable creating an AfD at someone else's behest. You're welcome to follow the process at WP:AFD to request the deletion yourself. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 16:28, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

A League of Their Own

This entry already mentions two actresses who were considered for the movie but did not appear in it. Lauren Holly was a significant female star of the 1990s. I uncovered this heretofore unknown fact that she was once cast in the movie. No one reported on it previously because it was buried in this old interview, only published recently online, and fans of the movie would have no reason to pull up this interview. The criteria for Wikipedia is not whether an article mentions it somewhere, but whether the fact is sourced and relevant. Movie pages on Wikipedia routinely list people who were considered for movies but not cast. See Superman (1978), which has this text, "Over 100 actresses were considered for the role. Margot Kidder (suggested by Stalmaster), Anne Archer, Susan Blakely, Lesley Ann Warren, Deborah Raffin and Stockard Channing screen tested from March through May 1977." — Preceding unsigned comment added by JediJones77 (talkcontribs) 02:49, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Your source didn't make it clear to me whether anyone other than Holly herself had commented on her having been cast for the film. Did anyone other than her comment on it? Ideally someone involved with the film, or is this a random factoid? Also, just because other artices have done something doesn't mean that it was a good idea. I imagine the statement on the Superman article is sourced to a third-party? DonIago (talk) 03:01, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Why remove mine when right next to it there is uncited material? Also the citations are simply on the Almighty dollar page itself. I know how to add a reference, I just didn't. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Human-potato hybrid (talkcontribs) 01:58, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

I don't know what this is in reference to? If there's uncited material, then it should be cited or removed. Additional uncited material shouldn't be added, so if you chose not to add a reference, then why are you surprised material was removed? DonIago (talk) 02:01, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

User talk:Rhyder Hawkman

Hello, this editor has edited offensive language to my user and talk page User:Cardei012597 and User talk:Cardei012597. I discovered you had this happen to you by the same editor. Can you help me in resolving this situation? Cardei012597 (talk) 16:44, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

The situation has been resolved. User talk:Rhyder Hawkman has been blocked indefinitely, due to his recent actions. Cardei012597 (talk) 19:58, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure I'd had any interactions with them since January. Nevertheless, glad to hear that the situation has been resolved. DonIago (talk) 22:51, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Could you weigh in?

Hey, I seen you participating in other character AFDs. Would you mind weighing in on the AFD for Coco Bandicoot? Thanks. MoonJet (talk) 16:57, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Sorry, I just got to this and it looks like the matter's already been resolved. That said, I would have had concerns about weighing in in any case, as approaching me specifically for input on an AfD feels uncomfortably close to canvassing. I'm not saying or suggesting that was your intent, but I'm much more comfortable not being directly solicited for such things. DonIago (talk) 22:27, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Underworld Reference

Hello, my edit on Underworld (film series) was not unsourced. The following reference, which is used in the first line of the introduction in the article, describes Underworld as a dark fantasy series.[1] The Editor 155 (talk) 15:42, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Yes, I self-reverted that edit. Though I think ideally any reference to "dark fantasy" on the individual film articles should also be sourced. As an example, AllMovie doesn't mention that genre at all, so editors might challenge it if it's used without a source being provided. DonIago (talk) 15:46, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for clarifying.The Editor 155 (talk) 16:19, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

I reviewed it

"Ethno-racial "color labels" may be given capitalized (Black and White) or lower-case (black and white).[h] The capitalized form will be more appropriate in the company of other upper-case terms of this sort (Asian–Pacific, Black, Hispanic, Native American, and White demographic categories)." Tytygh55 (talk) 17:45, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Yes, and when I look at the article I'm not seeing much use of other upper-case terms of this sort. I specifically note that there's an instance of "Black" that isn't capitalized. I would appreciate it if you'd stop marking my edits as bad-faith, especially considering that you changed the stable form of the article and are reverting before we've even discussed the matter. DonIago (talk) 19:21, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
I'm not the one who started the first reversion. The paragraph in which the word White is contained also contains the capitalized term "African-American." To bring consistency with the rest of the page I capitalized White. If you would like to captialize black you're welcome to do so; I won't revert that edit. ;) Tytygh55 (talk) 20:13, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Archiving notice

Hey! During your archiving of Talk:The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (film), you seem to have used {{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}, {{subst:BASEPAGENAME}}, or something similar. Please keep in mind that these magic words have some encoding behaviours, and punctuation characters that can appear in titles, such as ', ", and &, may become different. (E.g. ' into &#39;). This encoded version doesn't work with bots, so make sure to double check if the PAGENAME usage has worked correctly. Don't worry, I've fixed it for you - just keep this in mind for the future. Thanks! Aidan9382 (talk) 19:11, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the assist! I have limited experience with setting up auto-archiving. Honestly, it would be great if that was functionality implemented in Twinkle or otherwise there was some configuration assistance available. Anyhow, thanks again! DonIago (talk) 19:14, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
