Otago Boys' High School Board of Trustees Student Representative Election, 2009

I've added the 2009 election to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Otago Boys' High School Board of Trustees Student Representative Election, 2008. Would you be willing to offer an opinion about it there? Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 15:44, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Nothing personal, of course

It's just we've had so many admins who've been recently unmasked as banned users and the like. –xenotalk 21:00, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

I entirely understand. Additional back at WP:BN. —DoRD (?) (talk) 21:30, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

No worries, I figured it was a mistake! —DoRD (?) (talk) 14:49, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
It's weird. I got an edit conflict, but your change didn't show. So I submitted, but all that happened is that I reverted you. I'm sure I missed something... or perhaps something isn't working right? - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 14:50, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
Hmm...well, I saw that you responded to their unblock request, so I went to remove the message I left at ani, but then saw that my later edit (which was above the unblock message) was gone, so I fixed it. Maybe it's something I did (I haven't had my morning quota of coffee yet!) —DoRD (?) (talk) 15:03, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

FC Barcelona season 2009–10

Hi. I will explain. I made up some guidelines as "Edmílson José Gomes de Moraes" for "Edmílson (footballer born 1976)", for example, in season 06/07. In 09/10, there is no need to put "V. Valdés" or "A. Iniesta," just because you are subscribed on his kits. It is simply "Valdés" and "Iniesta". Like "Eric Abidal is "Abidal" and not "E. Abidal", for example. Similarly, "Sergio Busquets" is just "Busquets" and not "Sergio". The problem is that he wants to put the name that appears on the kits, but that is always how the player is known.

Thank you for your attention, I just want to cooperate, but with consistency. Chapecoense - talk) 25 January 2010 (UTC).

Russia

I saw you protected Russia. You changed the move-protection as well. Most country names are move-protected, and so was this article. When you restore the move-protection, please also undo my last edit, which was removal of the move-protected-template to avoid an error category. Debresser (talk) 12:14, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that was all done in quite a hurry last night as we were being hit on several articles by 4chan people with nothing better to do. Anyway, the move protection was restored and I undid your edit as requested. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be more careful next time. —DoRD (?) (talk) 13:25, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Appreciate it. Debresser (talk) 23:50, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

I think you are warning the wrong person. Look at the article history. I added the CSD tag. ProveYouAreHuman (talk) 15:22, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Admin Noticeboard

[[1]] - Could you please address? Much appreciated. Wipkipkedia (talk) 13:12, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

I decided to rethink and have a read of the discussion between gadfium and I. When I read it, I was left wondering how I could be accused of rudeness by Wikipedia administrators.

I am blown away by the above comments. I conducted myself in such a friendly manner and even offered assistance where I could. If someone could clarify or justify their stance, it would be greatly appreciated. Wipkipkedia (talk) 12:50, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

I have moved your question here because you really shouldn't be adding to an archived discussion. I will invite the other user here, as well.
That being said, I think that the exchanges here and here speak for themselves. In no way, shape, or form did Gadfium misuse, or even use, for that matter, his admin tools. If you feel the need to address this further, start a new AN/I topic rather than modifying the archive. Thanks. —DoRD (?) (talk) 14:47, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you! :)

Thanks for the swift action on Jeffj196. Twice today there has been swift action against accounts that are obviously for vandalism... this is a very welcome improvement and I appreciate the swift and appropriate action. A big thank you and please keep up the awesome work! Srobak (talk) 01:11, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

I was about to decline the report because the last warning was well after the last edit, but clearly, that account isn't here to be productive. Cheers. —DoRD (?) (talk) 01:18, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Sandbox Article

Hi, I would like help on my sandbox article. Nks1 (talk) 19:59, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Not being much of an article creator myself, I will suggest that you should probably start by reading WP:Your first article and then return to WP:New contributors' help page with any specific questions. —DoRD (?) (talk) 20:29, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

"doppelganger"...

...wants to come back as a different user. I would say your best bet is to look at some of the users Alison has blocked recently. Be aware, though, that this character wants you to think he's somebody else. Probably the same clown that impostored Axmann8 last summer (notice he hit up that guy's page on this go-round) and is also probably trying to impeach Belchman. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots00:27, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

I was on hiatus last summer, so it looks like I've got some reading to do. lol —DoRD (?) (talk) 00:36, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
There was a strange user called Baseball1015 that I think Alison blocked recently, for example. If I wouldn't waste too time and energy trying to find the right sockmaster. The most likely one I can think of is Pioneercourthouse, though he hasn't been visibly around for awhile now - but he did impostor accounts. One of the socks Alison blocked recently had only 1 edit, to something to do with Notre Dame, I think. Axmann8 is from Indiana. But that could just be to draw false attention. The complication is that Axmann8 DID do some sockpuppeting not too long ago. But the pattern of the impostor(s) is to interpose themselves into a dispute and fan the flames to try to get somebody else blocked. See the tangled web? I've talked with some admins about this kind of thing, and they've got me pretty well convinced that the best course is just to ignore those idiots in general, and whack them as they come up. But that's all up to you. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots00:43, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Regarding this: you wouldn't be the Department of Redundancy Department without linking to diffs of an edit I already admitted to making, huh? ;)

Sorry, just had to! I actually don't mind at all that you added the diff, I just couldn't help leaving this message... rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 00:28, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Classic Bugs. Of course your "friend" doesn't seem to know the difference between the rabbit and bugs. :D —DoRD (?) (talk) 00:39, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
I posted an idea for a pictorial representation of my user ID, on Alison's page. Bugs Bunny is generally fair-use-only, and besides it's not quite literal enough of a "rebus", so I substituted photos of insects. That's probably where the impostor got the idea. And the impostor knows that I know a little bit of Spanish. Among other things, he probably hangs around the ref desk to look for stuff to try and cause trouble with. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots00:45, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Re ANI regarding me

Sorry, but these guys are being appallingly rude in this ANI, as in the last comment: "You are clearly a troll". What am I supposed to do about this? You've warned me to stop what I'm doing, so I'm in a bind here. -- spincontrol 01:26, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Go back to ANI and listen. You were told that it is against policy to re-add a PROD tag, but did it anyway. There are concerns that you are editing to make a WP:POINT, but you are arguing rather than discussing. Ignore other editors' opinions at your peril. —DoRD (?) (talk) 01:37, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
I replaced the PROD (23:22, 1 February 2010) half an hour before American Eagle set me straight (23:55, 1 February 2010), so I left it as is. What I hear in the ANI are some people who want to make personal attacks. Please clarify what you want me to do here. -- spincontrol 01:46, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
I apologize for getting the timing wrong, but even not knowing the policy, you should have known not to edit war. But I suggest again, for your own sake: Get back to ANI and discuss. —DoRD (?) (talk) 02:04, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the comment. I don't see anything I would normally consider edit-warring. Are you referring to my removal of the fake references to WASM? I tried to follow indications as to correct procedure. I would have thought editing twice doesn't constitute edit warring. -- spincontrol

GFDL and Wikipedia

Hi DoRD. I noticed that you recently removed a copyvio tag from the Pencubitt House article because the content was released under the GFDL license. However, GFDL-only text can no longer be used on Wikipedia since the switch to dual licensing on June 16, 2009 (see Wikipedia:Licensing update). Just thought I'd let you know. :) Regards, Theleftorium 23:12, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Block of user 76.165.219.34

I was looking into contribs and it doesn't seem like a single constructive edit has been made using this IP. After the last block expired the vandalism started up again almost immediately. While I'm not going to question your judgement regarding issuing a one week block and I do understand the policy regarding educational / IP etc... accounts might I suggest at least considering a longer block period if the vandalism starts up directly after the current block expiry? Nefariousski (talk) 00:15, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

I understand your frustration, but looking over the contributions, I see some probable vandalism, but many of the edits prior to this month look to be either good faith or misguided with a few anti-vandal edits thrown in. Clearly, though, this IP is shared, so we don't like to block for any longer than necessary to protect the encyclopedia. Hopefully the vandal will get bored with WP this week, but if not, I'm sure a longer block will be applied. Cheers —DoRD (?) (talk) 00:54, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

As uninvolved and seen at WP:ANI, I've flatly reverted the article back to where it was before the edit warring early UTC of 26 February. Pending all discussions and the like, leaving it there is probably best. The article has a handful of minor troubles (grandstanding is my biggest worry) that will need fixing, but top priority being to avoid a nasty 3RR mess and talk it out. Any more changes I make to keep it "safe" for now will be small, I do promise. daTheisen(talk) 03:36, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

DODR, I'm not sure why your talk page is on my watchlist, or what caused me to peek in just now, but the IP editor above is pretty clearly User:Ian McGrady, editing while logged out. Ian has edited since the block, so it probably doesn't require undoing. I've left a note on Ian's talk page. --Floquenbeam (talk) 18:03, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I was just noticing that. The other IP - 74.72.119.125 (talk) - that has edited the page is also probably him. They all use the atypical present tense ("adds", "talks", "fixes") in their edit summaries and both geolocate to NYC.

Just following up on this comment [2]. If it had been an ip, then we would be obligated to assume a different user who perhaps wasn't aware of our policies or the previous warnings. Since it was a registered user with a history of vandalism, and they were repeatedly recreating an attack page I felt a block was justified. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:30, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Shared IP address

Hi. DoRD. I saw that you placed a sharedipedu template on one of the newly blocked IP addresses. Is there a tool or site that helps to find out if a school or organization belongs to a certain IP address? Just curious as how you were able to find out the school district so quickly, as it would be nice to be able to help assist placing those from time to time as warranted. Thanks in advance. Kindly Calmer Waters 18:01, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Yes, just click the WHOIS and RDNS links in the report to see who "owns" the IP and what the IP's domain address is. Usually, you can easily tell from the WHOIS output, but sometimes you can get a partial website address from the RDNS result. Then simply use WP:FRIENDLY to add the template. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 18:08, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Please do a checkuser on User:Lucap1978. It's not me and it must be someone involved as it seems to be a single user account. SpigotMap 11:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
After reviewing the contributions again, I doubt it's anyone involved, probably someone from the Planeshift community. I just thought Xyz231 was a little quick to jump the gun and blame me. SpigotMap 11:54, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) SpigotMap is not a vandal and your referring to them as such is a personal attack, so it needs to stop now. SpigotMap's removing your unreferenced and/or copyvio edits to the article is not vandalism, it is valuable cleanup. —DoRD (talk) 11:57, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

If someone posts something yon your talk page that you believe should go in a new section can you just copy the comment and paste it in a new section? Clerkenwell TALK PAGE! 19:35, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Salem Witchcraft Trials Task Force Banners

Hello, My research indicates that perhaps your deletion of my posting was a mistake of process. You seem to have both the experience, and the powers, and nothing better to do than get to involved in the Salem Witch Trials Task Force. How about you consider helping with replacing the banners to our articles ? If you folks don't like the old ones, and are offended at the neopagan pentagram, then perhaps you could design us a new banner and put it before the membership of the task group for a vote on its propriety ? John5Russell3Finley (talk) 15:58, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

I have no opinion of, and until yesterday, was unaware of any such task force and have still not even seen the banners you are concerned with. I only removed your post because it did not appear to be an appropriate request for WP:AIV nor was it a correctly-formatted AIV report. If you are aware of a specific user or users actively committing vandalism, please don't hesitate to report them to AIV. Otherwise, your request is more appropriate for WP:AN/I, particularly since you are concerned with the behavior of an admin. —DoRD (talk) 16:12, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

User:Raytrix

Hello. I reported this one to AIV for spammy entries but you wrote that the user had been insufficiently warned. If you take a look at their contributions though, I think it is rather obvious that this account's sole purpose is to promote the Raytrix camera, not to mention the questionable username, which on its own should be worth a block imho. De728631 (talk) 13:08, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

You're right about the username, but if they don't know they're doing something wrong, they can't be expected to stop doing it, hence the need for warnings. —DoRD (talk) 13:40, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Marcuard Family Office

Dear DoRD,

You deleted the page Marcuard Family Office. Could you please explain to me why? And what would need to be fulfilled that you think it would be worth to have an article on Wiki?

Minders1 (talk) 15:08, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello Minders1. Here are a couple of useful links:
The page was deleted by four different admins for two different reasons. One deleted it because it appeared to be advertising, but the other three of us deleted it because there didn't appear to be justification for its inclusion in Wikipedia. For additional information, see WP:CORP, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask here. Thanks —DoRD (talk) 15:38, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Sri Chinmoy

Hey Department, could you have a look at the history? I think there's some sock puppetry going on, but I am not entirely sure, nor do I know what to do about it--and I need to get to work, haha. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 17:17, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

I agree that at least two of the editors, Baikelin (talk · contribs) and 弥勒佛 (talk · contribs), appear to be making nearly identical edits. For example, Baikelin and 弥勒佛 are the same except for the white space. I think that Boulayp (talk · contribs) could also bear some scrutiny, but I'm not convinced they're related to the other two.
I could block the first two per WP:DUCK, but because of the third user, I have filed this case to get a checkuser's advice. —DoRD (talk) 18:01, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

"Meat Puppet" is not an insult or "personal attack"

DoRD, you seem to have mistaken the term "meat puppet" for an insult. It is not. It is a recognized Wikipedia techincal term. Thank you for your interest. AshtonBenson (talk) 17:43, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Wait, what?

Hey there.

I'm a little puzzled by why you chose to delete this revision, and especially why you have hidden the log entry itself (which is almost never the right thing to do). Normal disruption rarely deserves revdel to begin with, and this seemed rather tame to me. Perhaps there is context I did not catch? — Coren (talk) 01:32, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Nevermind. I see it was a manipulation error.  :-) — Coren (talk) 01:34, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
(ec) Yeah, that was a big mistake, and I've reversed it just now (I hope!). I was trying to undo the hiding of the username, but my lack of experience with the tool led me to hide the log entry instead. The comment was made by a grawp puppet and I was following what was also done on ANI. —DoRD (talk) 01:38, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey DoRD, I appreciate you weighing in here. That block was the first where I was confronted with an individual that had incurred previous long blocks and I was attempting to walk the line of treating IPs fairly and trying to prevent further disruption. Continued Sockpuppet Activity on AppleTV

Hi. Any chance we can get partial protection on the AppleTV article to prevent anon editors from making trouble? You know who is back at it with these edits from various socks. See [4], [5], [6], and [7]. Mattnad (talk) 11:23, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Done Yes, I was considering protecting the article earlier today and your request spurred me to take action. I also blocked the disruptive user for logging out to continue his edit war aka sockpuppetry. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 14:58, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
There's a new sock from our good friend.Mattnad (talk) 10:16, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
I hate to come back to you again. The anon editor is reverting to a version with the disputed content. I suppose we are at a point where we can try semi-protecting the article again. Mattnad (talk) 00:16, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Hi. Sorry, your earlier message somehow went unnoticed, but I did block AB2 if that's who you're talking about. As for protecting the article, I'm not inclined to do that unless the activity picks up somewhat. I've got it on my watchlist to keep an eye on it. Thanks —DoRD (talk) 14:30, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Also, I'm not comfortable calling those edits "vandalism," rather they are un- or poorly-sourced edits that are also somewhat POV-ish. If he keeps it up, I guess we can semi the article again, but I'll probably enlist a more neutral admin to have a look at it first. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 04:17, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

please be careful

Please be careful collapsing discussions as you did here [10]. His reasoning for the templates he is giving is tucked away in the first one.--Crossmr (talk) 01:26, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, I don't dispute your uncollapsing, but if there's a valid reasoning in there, I'm not able to make it out. Then again, I have scant knowledge of that sort of football and, frankly, that wall-of-text is coming across as a bit impenetrable. —DoRD (talk) 02:09, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
It's not a valid reason, it's his reason. He talks about how IPs get a warning on the edit page before editing this is why he templates with level 3.--Crossmr (talk) 03:10, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Ahh! Okay, I see what you're saying now. Sorry if I trampled anyone's toes, and good luck with that situation. Methinks you're going to need it. —DoRD (talk) 03:18, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

McYel

Why did you grant this editor reviewer rights? Already blocked once and probably a WP:POINTy sock of someone (note continual snarkiness about "minor edits"). I check this ones contributions out periodically because of the image problems, and was fairly surprised to see the granting of reviewer rights.—Kww(talk) 21:38, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Hmm...I'll admit I didn't see the block log - since I was handling 2 requests at once, I guess I must have closed that tab before seeing it. Anyway, the guidelines say that recent blocks are not a reason to decline reviewer, and a cursory glance at their contributions didn't raise any major concerns except for marking everything minor, for which I left a note. Digging deeper, including the exchange between you and C.Fred (and McYel's responses!), I now share your concerns. However, since this simply restores a right they'd have had anyway, I don't see much harm in leaving it as is. On the other hand, you won't get any argument from me if you see fit to remove the right. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 22:14, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

AIV

[11] May I know why it wasn't vandalism? Where should I report the matter to? Thanks. 61.18.170.176 (talk) 01:44, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

The edits are not vandalism as defined. In actuality, this is a content dispute, and you should wait until discussions with the other editor fail to produce results before filing a report at a noticeboard. Regards —DoRD (talk) 01:48, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
It's rather apparent that he is disruptive. He removes a whole paragraph from List of railway companies, he removes several sections from List of Asian films, and he removes the names of the Chinese provinces from List of museums. 61.18.170.44 (talk) 02:13, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Again, have you tried discussing it with them? 1) The edits are not vandalism (AIV is for vandalism) and 2) no, at least not from this address. Good night and regards —DoRD (talk) 02:56, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Weren't those edits disruptive acts? 61.18.170.110 (talk) 16:57, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

off topic discussion

Thank you - and sorry for my engagement in it. Orderinchaos 16:45, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Not a problem. There were no technical issues raised in that thread so I moved it to where content discussions are supposed to be. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 16:47, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Then what forum would be more appropriate then? Because a minor discussion at Talk:PNG is never going to get a broad consensus. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:52, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

I saw no technical issues in that thread so I'll first say that WP:VPT is not one of the steps in WP:DR. I would suggest asking for a third opinion or posting a request for comment if the disagreement cannot be solved at the talk page. Hopefully, it can be peacefully resolved without further escalation. Cheers —DoRD (talk) 16:59, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
(Although I'd note 3O or DR would probably be rejected because the first step - try to resolve the problems by negotiation first - has not been so much as attempted yet.) Orderinchaos 17:02, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
Hence my qualification, "if the disagreement cannot be solved at the talk page." :) —DoRD (talk) 17:04, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

I think I have demonstrated that I do have a better grasp of the policies of Wikipedia. I certainly do know the difference between good and bad faith edits and I haven taken time to revise and evaluate the previous mistakes I have made by apologizing and receiving and working by constructive criticism. I was told that I am doing good work by: Reverting vandalism, marking articles for creating correctly, leaving constructive criticism, leaving warnings where appropriate, reading guides about Wikipedia before attempting or applying for something new. I kindly request that you provide me a more deatialed explanation of the closing statement as I think I have demonstrated a deep understanding. Thanks Ratinator·Talk 18:02, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Concern about Wlmg

Hello. I'm bringing this to you simply because you approved this user's reviewer status a few weeks ago. I'm concerned because of this edit to Nixon Shock (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). The user removed a cited section and replaced it with disinformation. They then followed up the edit with two minor edits, perhaps to disguise it? An IP then removed the disinformation, with the result that the original cited section was deleted. I put a warning on User:Wlmg's talk page, but it was simply removed w/o reply. Since this user appears to have been on Wikipedia for a while, and was trusted with reviewer status, these actions make me wonder if perhaps the account has been compromised. Yworo (talk) 20:59, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this here, but I'm not currently able to spend much time on WP. I'll keep an eye on their contributions, but if you spot anything more like that, feel free to flag down any admin or take it to AN/I. —DoRD (talk) 21:30, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Oh I see Yworo is already here. Yworo is in violation of the three revert rule.http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nixon_Shock&action=history He's unhappy he's not getting his way on the Nixon Shock article so he tries to dig up dirt on me and dump here on your talk page saying my account is compromised. My puerile changes to the section probably weren't a good idea especially the day before requesting rollback rights. Maybe I'm not a mature enough wikipedian for rollback rights at this time, and I withdraw my request. Please punish Yworo for violating the three revert rule. Let's keep wikipedia kosher together. Wlmg (talk) 21:52, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

That undo of your puerile edit (your words, not mine) was undoing clear vandalism. Doesn't count toward 3RR. That leaves me with 3 reverts and each of those for controversial additions about a living person without any sources. Also excluded per WP:BLP. But do have a go at reporting it... By the way, is that IP editor you? Why log out to make those edits? Yworo (talk) 23:00, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Ahh, I see. Please take your dispute elsewhere. Thanks. —DoRD (talk) 23:52, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
