Israel Law links edit

I added the links to the specific pages of the Law translations - why just one link to the header? The title of the site is not specific enough. The translated laws are commercial laws and not just insurance laws. I beleave the deep links are better.

Wikipedia is not a link directory. Having that many links to the same site is not useful: People who want to find information about commercial law elsewhere can find it with that single link, it's not like the information is hidden on that site. If you wanted to you could put a brief list of the topics mentioned on the site after it, ie "Isreal Insurance law, a site with information on Isreali commercial, tort and insurance law". By the way, you can sign your name and the date by typing ~~~~. --fvw* 10:59, 2004 Dec 20 (UTC)

Six million edit

At Wikipedia:WikiProject Numbers we are drafting guidelines for what kind of information we want to include in articles about numbers. The guideline for numbers of statistics is that the number must either be axiomatic to statistics (i.e, 1, 2, π) or be a statistic that has gained historical or mythical significance.

Would you say that the number six million has historical significance in Israel? If so, could you provide references to back this up, (i.e., a book titled something like Requiem for the Six Million?) PrimeFan 22:23, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I wasn't asked, but I'm sticking my nose in anyway. I'd say absolutely, the number six million has near-mythological significance to Israeli and other Jews. How's this for a book title: The Seventh Million by Tom Segev, a book about the aftereffects of the holocaust. Look it up if you like. --Woggly 07:06, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Thanks - feel free to stick your nose anytime. I changed the article accordingly Deror

Hi, I noticed your image Eshkoltower.jpg, and was wondering where it came from. JerMM.JPG edit

G'day there. This little notice is about Image:JerMM.JPG - an image you've uploaded. All images on wikipedia need to have
a) source information (where you found the image, where it was published, or its owner)
b) copyright information (choose the appropriate tag from this list)

At the moment some of this information is missing, and images like this are usually deleted within a week. If you want to keep the image on wikipedia, you need to update this information on the image page as soon as possible. (Agnte 14:57, 19 November 2005 (UTC))Reply

Hi Deror avi; I noticed you edited some of the articles for the Hebrew alphabet. You may be interested in looking at what I've done here as a model for the Hebrew letters articles. I'd love to hear your comments. Thanks! Sputnikcccp 14:02, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would add the modern uses of the letter, for example "ל" is a symbol for a car that has a driving student in it, etc. as well as the hebrew brail see betDeror 16:37, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:CDV109.jpg edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:CDV109.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. The images edit

You asked "what was wrong" in your edit summary when you removed the "no source" tag from a couple of your images. I though the boilplate message I dropped here would have explained it, but anyway: The images have no source info. You need to say where the images came from, or if you made them yourself you need to explisitly say so. Additionaly if you did not make them yourself you need to carefully explain why you say that the copyright holder have released all rights to the images as well (if they are self made we can just take your word for it, but you need to first explain that they are in fact self made first). Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 09:11, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

As specifically written there - the images were taken by a friend of mine - named Gabi, the dates are there, and he allowed usage of the pictures in all events (according to the license specified there). Deror 09:15, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Okay. It would help if you explained that in a little bit more detail on the actual image pages though (you know something like "This image was taken by by Gabi, a friend of User:Deror avi, at <wherever> on <whenever> and he/she has released all rights to the image" or something like that, just so it's spelled out unmistakedly). Just a (first?) name and a year is very little to go on to verify that the images are free. Considering how many outright copyright violations there are in that category, images with very little information where they came from and why they are lavbeled as free use tends to be looked at with some suspicion. Better to not leave any room for doubht as to the status of images. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 16:13, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
sorry for the misunderstanding - I thought the license info was sufficient. Deror 21:11, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Israeli Sea Corps edit

Hello. A motto (מוטו) is a short phrase (i.e. הטובים לטיס), and while I don't doubt the usage of that passage in the ISC, by definition, it cannot be the "motto." My other corrections that you reverted: Maj-Gen. should always be wikified as Aluf (the other Aluf derivative ranks, except the Ramatkal, should be denoted in English); the Sea Corps is the Sea arm (זרוע), not a branch (אגף), as the author of חיל הים הישראלי, youv'e written so yourself; I forgot to note why I've hidden the image links - I will be uploading them in the next day or 2 into the article, so they are for my reference; the maps of Israel is not really topical, so I removed it. Hope all of that makes sense. El_C 00:34, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Deror 06:48, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. I think you are confused, a motto is a "סיסמא/קו מנחה". I'm surprised you would think the ISC would be different than any other IDF unit in that regard. At any rate, I found a source, so I trust that settles the question. El_C 08:42, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and "כשהגלים מתחזקים החזקים מתגלים", is the motto from that passage. But at the event, I believe it is the motto of שייטת 13. El_C 09:03, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Deror 10:47, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Likewise for S-13. It dosen't matter, my main point was about the length of the passage (i.e. it not being the motto itself). El_C 22:00, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Julis edit

Well, several things:

  • It's ugly
  • It's not a template, which means changes in a similar template (such as {{Infobox Israel municipality}}) will not affect this table
  • There is already a template for Israeli municipalities, Template:Infobox Israel municipality
  • It's taken from the Hebrew Wikipedia, which does not take into account some standards set forth by the English Wikipedia
  • It has outdated information, which isn't really important anyway (percentage of matriculation graduates? Who cares? It can be included under Education in the text of the article)
  • Etc.

Hi. I recently created Operation Summer Rains suboperations. My opponents, however, do not see appear to see the relation between these haveing been undertaken within the framework of Operation Summer Rains. On Talk:Operation Autumn Clouds#Name change, I brought a source whose excerpt I translated, which reads in the original[3]:

Still, this does not appear to be enough. They claim that a similar list on the Hebrew Wikipedia as invalid for being unsourced. It reads:

Unspecified source for Image:Herodium from above.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Herodium from above.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Fair use rationale for Image:UofH.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:UofH.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hi I notcied that you are doing translations into hebrew of the wikiworld comics. Have you stopped, or taking a break. Im just curious to know which ones you want to do next, which ones you arent going to do, and anyones you want to do on your own. Zobango (talk) 22:57, 29 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The translations are done for the Hebrew Wiki monthly newspaper - i.e. they are done once a month (and I need to do another one by tomorrow for this month edition). The topic which is chosen - is chosen according to an appropriate existing article in Hebrew wiki - unfortunately, the number of articles in he is significantly lower than in en - thus the choice is very limited. the next article will be the Exploding Whale. Why do you ask? Deror (talk) 07:08, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just wondering —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zobango (talkcontribs) 18:43, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:LevitanLogoen.GIF edit

Thanks for uploading Image:LevitanLogoen.GIF. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Spelling edit

I believe you have misspelled the links to the Hebrew pages of Ephesians (extra yoods)so that it reads (in translation) Epistle to the Ephesian Twins. Also Epistle does not have a yood. I tried to correct the spelling, but an editor reverted my edits because they would have broken the link. A Georgian (talk) 12:40, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

In other words - that is the correct spelling. Deror (talk) 12:45, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your response; but with this spelling, would not the meaning be "The Epistle to the Ephesian Twins"? Is this not the consequence of the extra yood? Does it not turn a plural into a pair?. A Georgian (talk) 13:51, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
no, just plural. the "twin" form is not common and not used in modern hebrew - but we checked and apparently in most translations it is only with 1 yud, so we changed accordingly. As to the (Igeret) איגרת, without the י it comes אגרת (Agrat) which is modernly used for taxes or fees. Also a leangthy discussion (here) took place whether an "ה" is required (as in some it is always needed) and decided to add it to all. Deror (talk) 10:17, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The "pair" forms in modern Hebrew with which I am familiar are garbayim, mikhnasayim, pa'amayim, shenayim, oznayim, 'inayim, yadayim, raglayim, and etc. (clothes, pants, twice, teeth, ears, eyes, hands, legs - I haven't figured out how to get my Hebrew keyboard to work in this box). I agree with the use of H, the definite article; otherwise you would have "Epistle to", which, in Hebrew would more likely connote the indefinite article (a or an) than "the". Thanks for the feedback. A Georgian (talk) 13:10, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The "pairs" you said do not relate to persons - for example חיפה (Haifa) חיפאי (belonging to Haifa) חיפאים (people of Haifa) חיפאיים (of Haifa or belonging to Haifa in plural) - and not a pair. Thus of the Epistle is to plural it is one י and if it is belonging to them it would be doublt י (a letter to the people of X will be one י and a letter to people belonging to a city i.e. citizens would be double י) . as to the H - the problem is only with the one which is numbered - האיגרת הראשונה as you can not have איגרת הראשונה. The rest will be with ה for the sake of conformity. Deror (talk) 17:27, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see what you mean. A Georgian (talk) 17:40, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Paint? You manage to do all that complex lettering with paint? Impressive. Im wondering how you are going to do it for W(which you are probably going to do next) and Cursive. Anyway, great job, and thanks for all of your kind responses P.S.: I not telling you what to do, but Fall Out Boy would make a good choice for the next translation i.e. fairly well-known topic, corresponding hebrew article. If you modified the Nocebo effect and focused just on the placebo bit, that would also be nice. Take care: 96.240.0.213 (talk) 22:44, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum edit

Hi Deror avi/Archive,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Orphaned non-free image File:PG142.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:PG142.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. File permission problem with File:Kofi Annan PA210124.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading File:Kofi Annan PA210124.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. License tagging for File:Lulu 1.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Lulu 1.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Speedy deletion nomination of Levitan, Sharon & Co. edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Levitan, Sharon & Co. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mtking (edits) 08:43, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with File:Boutros Boutros Ghali PA210123.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading File:Boutros Boutros Ghali PA210123.JPG.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Kelly hi! 20:37, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Adi Sened edit

The article Adi Sened has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. JohnCD (talk) 09:23, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

2 articles edit

Hi, added Canaan as it was possessed both in Abraham and Israels dayes with the stations and bordering nations and Bünting Clover Leaf Map, but the second had been tagged with "no footnotes". Don't exactly understand in such case, as the external links provide the general info on the map and the other content is mostly a description of the map, with the map image shown as well so also acts as a verifying source for the map's written description. If you have more sources-links, or you have an idea in which places exactly within the content itself its best to use the external links also as footnotes, you will save me further complication with this. אומנות (talk) 15:14, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:PG142.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:PG142.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:28, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.138.61.41 (talk) 19:58, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Deror (talk) 21:36, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.138.61.41 (talk) 00:14, 2 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wiki of Functions followup edit

Hi there, I'm a researcher for the Wikilambda project. Last month we held a naming contest and I'm following up with those who voted to see if you might be willing to provide some feedback to help guide the project.

This would be a 45 minute conversation about your past experience with other Wikimedia projects and thoughts about the future of this new initiative. I'm hoping to gather a wide range of perspectives so I'd be interested in your opinion regardless of whether you plan to have further involvement.

As a way of saying thanks, the research team is offering a $35 gift card (in your local currency) for participation. We could chat by phone or through a website for audio conferencing.

If you're interested just pick a time slot from this calendar link:
