InternetArchiveBot error

Sorry, I tried reporting the bug at wmflabs.org, but I have no account there.

In this talk page edit [1], documenting the article edit [2] the bot is leaving the wrong URL.

The actual old URL was [3] (archive-it.org); the new URL place by the bot is [4] (also archive-it.org) . It's a good edit actually; the issue is not the article-space edit, but the talk-page notice. The URL placed on the talk page is [5] (yamaha.com), i.e., as if it were not an archive link. TJRC (talk) 19:05, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

@TJRC: I'm a little confused, then maybe you just don't know. :-) If you have a Wikipedia account here, that's all you need to access your account there. I'm not exactly sure which tool specifically you are referring to however. I appreciate bug reports, but they are easier to manage if reported in the right place. :-)—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:49, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
BTW, the bot always uses the original URL when referencing sources. It helps for clarity since the archive is just a snapshot of the original.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:52, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

BIL

Hi Cyberpower. There's a comment over at WT:BIL about the lack of sync between the bad image list and the templates, which is handled by Cyberbot I. Would you be interested in taking a look? Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:47, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Døde kilder?

Hva hjelper det å markere kilder som "død", når en besøksdato er notert? Wikipedia er ikke en lenkesamling? Luke (talk) 13:47, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Sorry but I don't understand. You're going to need to speak English, or have someone translate.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:46, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
@Cyberpower678: The above message from Luke is in Norwegian and appears to be related to the recent activation of IABot on nowiki. The heading is "Dead sources?", and the message reads (roughly): "What's the use of marking sources as 'dead', when an access date is noted? Wikipedia is not a collection of links?".
@Luke: På enwiki må du skrive på engelsk. Cyberpower678 bare kjører bot'en sin på nowiki etter en tidligere forespørsel fra samfunnet der (du finner sikkert diskusjonen på Tinget eller Torget). --Xover (talk) 05:43, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
What an odd question. It should be clearly obvious why sources are marked dead. It means a new source needs to be found or the article becomes useless.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 12:56, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
That is a very peculiar interpretation of the rules. That means that all internet sources are prohibited, since they all will be dead eventually. Does the same apply if a book is out of print? Luke (talk) 19:11, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
@Luke: IABot checks links in citations and if it finds them to be non-working, tries to add an URL to an archived copy of that page. For dead URLs, regardless of whether there's an archive available, it flags the link as dead so that editors become aware of the problem and can decide how to deal with it. A web citation that is no longer resolvable does not provide for verification and thus has very limited utility (it serves as an assertion that the original editor had a source for the information, but does not allow others to verify it). This is somewhat unlike citations to physical (non-ephemeral) media, like books and journal articles, that are usually possible to find in a library somewhere (using inter-library loan if necessary). Journals and journal articles in particular use extra identifiers (ISSNs and DOIs, typically) that are independent of hosting for this very reason. --Xover (talk) 05:34, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot on NO:WP

Hello Cyberpower678. I noticed this type of edit from the InternetArchiveBot, and observes that it removed the added section at the archived page-URL. Could that be fixed from your bot or do I manually have to go thru your edits for these types of edits from your bot at NO:WP ? Best regards Migrant (talk) 22:05, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

@Migrant: Yea, that's a bug. It should be respecting URL fragments. When the bug is fixed, the bot should be able to fix the missing fragment issue on its own. If it's not too much trouble, can you report this with this tool. It helps me to keep track of the issues needing fixing.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:55, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
Cyberpower678, is this the same bug Special:PermaLink/779961889#False_positive.3B_Internet_Archive_with_Anchor previously reported in May 2017 and commented on by User:Green Cardamom? —Sladen (talk) 00:20, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Unfortunately it looks like it, and I thought I had fixed that issue already. Apparently there's still something broken. It seem to successfully recognize the anchor, but doesn't add it back when altering cite templates.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 00:24, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Given the recentSpecial:Diff/789843250 self-nomination at Wikipedia:Bot_Approvals_Group/nominations/Cyberpower678_3 in the last hour, and the possibility that other editors might also arrive here looking—what is the proposed plan/course of action? —Sladen (talk) 00:41, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Obviously fix it. For good, and make sure it's fixed this time. I don't like half-assing my bot.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 00:45, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
@Sladen: So I've been digging around for the culprit for a bit, and there is a separate issue in the code that is causing this from the original I fixed. There's miscommunication happening.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:53, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Confirmed  Fixed in v1.4.1—CYBERPOWER (Message) 00:05, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into it, and hopefully it is fixed now. My reported probelem in this thread is a concern with mostly www.skatebase.com-used references at NO:WP. So is it possible to do a rerun on those to update after this fix ? Best regards and thanks from Migrant (talk) 00:33, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
The new code needs to be deployed first, and I still have A LOT of code tweaking to do before I do that.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 00:35, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
So it's not fixed, only committed? (ie. at this point in time buggy code is knowingly continuing to be allowed to run?) —Sladen (talk) 05:43, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
There are other changes I need to make to the code before I can deploy it. It's fixed in the new version, it just needs to be deployed. If you feel it's a big issue you are free to stop the bot on its run page until the new code is deployed. I personally think its minor and only effects a small subset of edits.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 13:32, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Vote on the Alemannic Wikipedia concerning the InternetArchiveBot

Hello Cyberpower678,

User:Holder asked you on the German Wikipedia if you could activate the InternetArchiveBot on the Alemannic Wikipedia, and you said you needed consensus first. We voted on the question, and the result is clear! --Terfili (talk) 05:52, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

It's scary how similar that language is to German. I can partially understand it. :p I created a tracking ticket.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 13:36, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot

Hello, is it possible to run your bot (InternetArchiveBot) on Wikinews Dutch? The project has been launched for a few days, and I think this bot is a good addition to fix broken links. To get a "botflag" on Wikinews NL, you can put a request on: https://nl.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Bot underneath "Aanmelding nieuwe bot". Thanks in advance! --LIVE NIEUWS (talk) 21:56, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

I need consensus first. Can you start a discussion there to see if it would be welcome?—CYBERPOWER (Message) 00:06, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
I will do that, but first a question, If community consensus is "yes". Is there anything we still have to do? (about translation or so?) Or is everything arranged? --LIVE NIEUWS (talk) 15:17, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
Since it already runs on the Dutch Wikipedia, not much needs to be done to set the bot up there. However, the interface could use translating. Go to https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&group=internetarchivebot&language=nl to translate it.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 15:37, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
I asked the question in the editorial room of Wikinews NL. (see here), already 2 users, including me is 3 are in favor of the proposal. The wiki is quite small now, we are with 4 main contributors (the wiki is brand new). And I'm sure the fourth is also in favor. You can install your bot! Greetings, --LIVE NIEUWS (talk) 19:42, 12 July 2017 (UTC) ps: If I have some time left, I will translate some things on Translatewiki

BBC Radio 3 download

Thanks for getting back to me about whether a BBC audio download is a dead-link or not. The url works for me, but on reflection I remember that the BBC has recently strongly encouraged users to register for access to its audio material. My computer will be automatically logged in to the BBC, whereas many other people wil not be registered. We probably need to say "subscription required" or something like that.--Thoughtfortheday (talk) 17:46, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

If it was a subscription site, I would see the requirement of needing an account on the page. Instead I just get a 403 forbidden error. Just two lines. Nothing related to BBC. If you say it works, then let me do some further investigating.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:53, 13 July 2017 (UTC)
@Thoughtfortheday: Alright I know what's going on here. The error message, which I perceived to be some foreign message for Forbidden is blocking the bot because it's based in the US and not the UK. When I activated my VPN and changed my IP to a UK address, I was able to access the site. So it is indeed alive, and needs to be whitelisted.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:56, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Not sure if InternetArchiveBot is doing the right thing

I'm not too technically savvy so I couldn't figure out what to do at the IABot Management Interface, but I've found a series of edits made by InternetArchiveBot that look wrong to me. For instance at this edit IABot marked this link dead and created a link to this archived version. The original link goes to a database where one can look things up about moths; for instance, pasting "Agastophanes" into the "taxon contains" field and clicking on the link gives good information that could be used as a reference, however that doesn't work at the archived link. The archived link seems to have the appearance of the database but not the data. If I'm understanding what's happening correctly, I think the archived links are not helpful and in replacing the good link actually unhelpful. Does that make sense? Thank you.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  23:09, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Yep, there's a bug here somewhere.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 23:36, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Clearly you've got a lot going on, but I'm restoring this from the archive as it is unresolved. When I search "Globiz.pyraloidea.org. Archived from the original" I get 6,751 hits and the number is growing. Would it be helpful for me to see if I can use AWB to go back and fix them, or is there another approach? Thanks,  SchreiberBike | ⌨  22:11, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, it's hard to keep track of bugs on my talk page. It's why I direct users to my tools to report bugs and fix issues. I should point out the original link looks just as blank as the archive.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 20:53, 13 July 2017 (UTC)
The link goes to a searchable database. For example, pasting "Agastophanes" into the "taxon contains" field and clicking on the link will give good information. That doesn't happen on the archived version.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  22:17, 13 July 2017 (UTC)
Oh right. Sorry. Like I said, hard to keep track of bugs on my talk page.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:22, 13 July 2017 (UTC)
@SchreiberBike: It would seem I cannot replicate this in the newest version of IABot. So I'm calling this  Fixed.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 01:14, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
So then would it make sense for me to go through the articles which say "Globiz.pyraloidea.org. Archived from the original" and change those so they only go to the original?  SchreiberBike | ⌨  01:46, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
Yea, just revert on those pages.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 01:47, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot at NL-wiki (again)

Hey,

I just want to inform you that I enabeled the bot again at nl-wiki since the last problems are solved. Natuur12 (talk) 17:07, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Natuur12: You might want to disable it again. It's fixed in the new version, but I haven't deployed it yet. I'm still hammering out the bugs that resulted from fixing the reported bugs as well implementing a new formatting handler.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:08, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
Whoops. Done so. Natuur12 (talk) 17:09, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

rfc draft at deWP on InternetArchiveBot

Hi, we started drafting a request for comment on InternetArchiveBot at de-Wikipedia. There are some (really valuable) technical questions on its functionalities. Could you please have a look and answer them? Let me know if you have any language questions; I'd be happy to help. Thanks much --Martina Nolte talk 02:39, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

Disruptive interface

Hello,

I edited User:EEng's page because the navigation column is filled with images making the links inaccessible. Furthermore, on mobile devices (specifically iPhone 6), the column prevents me from tapping the talk, contribs, and uploads link. I edited it out but EEng undid my edit and asked me to consider requesting a self block for five years. WP:SMI states that disruption to the MW interface may be remedied by any user. The column disrupts the mobile site, vector, and monobook. I am not sure about the others. Any advice?

InternatArchiveBot at NO:WP (again)

Hello again CyberPower678. An update from User talk:Cyberpower678/Archive 49#InternetArchiveBot on NO:WP, cause it looks like for me the fix created another problem in this type of edit at Rjukan stadion because it added the url-fragments up so it is twice in the same url and that doesn't look correct to me. Any idea of how to get it right this time ? Best regards and hoping for a better fix next time... Migrant (talk) 14:07, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

It's truly saddening that I just can't win here. :( I'll look into fixing it by the end of the day.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:20, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
It's the same issue as T170735. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 15:09, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
This is fixed in v1.4.2. This was a different bug caused by the enhanced string generator.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:47, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Looking forward to a better bot in next version 1.4.2 :) Best regards Migrant (talk) 19:31, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Hmm, not completely sure about this one works either, see for instance this edit -> at NO:WPs Sandnes stadion Best regards Migrant (talk) 22:13, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Try redoing the edit by using this tool. I snuck in a patch after deploying 1.4.2, when I caught another bug related to that.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:34, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Make sure to revert the bot first.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:36, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Removing of port in archived urls
Hmmm, another little error occured here where the bot removed the port in the URI-address at the NO:WP-page of no:Skien isstadion. Hopefully this can be fixed too ? Best regards Migrant (talk) 09:51, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
Why was the port necessary in the first place? Does the URL fail if it is omitted? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:27, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
Well, I got a gateway-timeout when I posted here at 09:51 earlier today, but that doesn't appear now... So I thought there was something wrong... sorry for not investigating into the problem earlier. It is most probably okay now... Yeah!! 👍 Like Best regards Migrant (talk) 15:33, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

EEng's user page

I saw this notification, but you should be aware that several times in the past EEng has ignored, disregarded, contradicted or rejected my suggestions outright.

I don't see your problem: but that may be because of the problem that I have - the user page and talk page are both way too big to load on my desktop PC - my browser eventually times out.

I know how to write CSS rules that apply only to mobile devices:
@media handheld {
...
}
but Wikipedia doesn't let us create stylesheets for specific pages, only for specific users or for everybody and everything.

The only practical solution is for EEng to remove most of the images, and also every element that has absolute positioning. But I bet that they don't. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:03, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

The problem in our past interactions has been that, instead of just explaining how to do something someone wants to do, you have a bad habit of insisting they do something else instead. This would be a great chance to break that habit. The question is simple: is there, or is there not, a way to selectively include or exclude a piece of content depending on whether the page will be displayed on a mobile platform? There's a precedent: {{Hide in print}}. EEng 23:24, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
Of course there is: but you won't let us teach you to fish - so how will you manage when we're gone? That's we, not I, because I'm not the only person whose advice you reject: this is how you treated David Eppstein (talk · contribs) just 23 minutes after posting above. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:17, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
I think you misread that comment. —David Eppstein (talk) 07:20, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
Redrose, your matchless talent for forming a completely mixed-up idea of what's going on, then stubbornly clinging to that construction, has not abandoned you. Nonetheless, this [6] remains the gold standard of such cockups. EEng 11:37, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Notification about needing more volunteers for joint closure on referrer info RfC discussion

Hello again. For notification, I started the discussion about needing more volunteers to help you and Winged Blades of Godric properly close the ongoing RfC discussion about sending referrer information. InternetArchiveBot: strange FORMAT parameter

Hi, see this edit - what is |__FORMAT__={key}={value} for? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 09:36, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

IABot's new formatting engine at work. That's an internal parameter and shouldn't have gotten leaked into the template itself.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 15:37, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
Still doing it. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:20, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

I cleaned up 344 articles with AWB (example). CB: is it fixed or should a ticket be created? -- GreenC 01:22, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Another. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 09:35, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Yeah that was added after AWB sweep yesterday. They will keep being added until it's fixed, probably around 24 a day. I'm going to wait until it's fixed before running AWB again. Not a serious bug, doesn't effect final display. There's an open ticket at Phab. -- GreenC 12:53, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot edits on svwp

Currently nearly all the edits by #IABot (v1.4.2) on the svwp are only doing this: webbref| till webbref |, adding a space character to references already updated by earlier versions of IABot, see [8]. Now and then it also writes 1500+ bytes on the talk page about these edits. Plumbum208 (talk) 19:10, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

That looks serious effecting nearly every edit. I've issued a shutdown to the bot. -- GreenC 20:59, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Time frame for German IABot decision

Hi Cyberpower678; just as a heads-up... As you're likely not very familiar with German-language Wikipedia's usual processes, I thought I should give you an estimate of the time frame to except for the community decision. From my experience with the "Meinungsbild" (MB) process, the MB vote will probably be ready to start not earlier than in a month or two. Then, it will most likely run for two weeks before assessment of the result. So you can expect that a decision will be made in two to three months. The process is rather slow, but the advantage of it is the very high status that MB results have in German-language Wikipedia. Unlike mere surveys ("Umfragen") they are seen as binding decisions and even opponents accept them (grumbling ;-) ). So, if the result of the MB is to use IABot in some form, this will be the binding, unquestionable result (well, not quite unquestionable, but it would then need another MB to change it). On the other hand, of course - if the community should reject IABot in the MB, this would also be a quite final rejection and close the door for any IABot use in the foreseeable future. Gestumblindi (talk) 18:22, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 18:26, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

IABot error?

Hi Cyberpower. I noticed twice today when I ran IABot that it seemed to have made erroneous changes (See [10], [11]) changing the {{cite web}} template to "{{cite web|||||||}}". Not sure if these are the only examples of it happening, but this might present itself as really quite problematic if people don't notice. Can you take a look? Thanks in advance —72 talk 15:26, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

The IABot appears to be making images and links inaccessible (at least on mobile devices).

I have been looking through a number of pages including LAW 72 and can't access the images/links...... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8003:3913:1700:5DA1:9669:88F8:8FF7 (talk) 22:33, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

The error found by 72 is seen in 59 articles. Anyone want to volunteer to fix them? I think it has to be done manually since data needs to be restored. The easiest solution would be revert the IABot edit. -- GreenC 01:32, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

IABot repeatedly "rescues" a live link even after multiple reports

Despite multiple reports that this link is very much alive over the past few weeks at the IABot Management Interface, each of which reports "These URLs were not found dead and will be reset in the DB immediately", the link is still being needlessly "rescued" as often as several times a day, most recently at this edit.
Please ping me and let me know why this error has persisted despite multiple reports that the link is working and what will be done to resolve it. Alansohn (talk) 11:54, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
@Alansohn: according to the URL log of the URL in the diff, found here, you haven't reported this specific URL as a false positive yet.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 12:16, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
I just submitted the link again for about the tenth time in the past ten days; can you confirm that it went through this time, as it appears that there's something wrong with the reporting tool. Alansohn (talk) 14:08, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
@Alansohn: According to the logs, you have reported the URL and it was automatically reset. I do see you reset a couple of different nj.us URLs, including the one you just reported a moment ago. So the you keep reporting URLs in the same domain, but are actually different URLs. It may seem the entire domain needs resetting.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:11, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
It's possible that there are other links, but I'm absolutely certain that this link was reported multiple times, usually after each IABot run that fixes articles with the link. There may well have been others, but this link has popped up very frequently. If this link hsa been reset in the database, a huge percentage of the problem is solved from my perspective. Alansohn (talk) 14:27, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
According to the logs however this link was reported only once, based on your user activity. If you feel this issue is occurring where reported links are not being resetting despite it claiming to, check your activity logs, and let me know with the URLs that were ignored, so I can investigate.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 14:29, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for supporting my run for administrator. I am honored and grateful. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:13, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
For crying out loud, Cullen328, if you thank everyone that supported you you'll break the Foundation's budget for server expansion. EEng 17:32, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

User:TohaomgBot

This bot doesn't have a user page or in any way reference its task, or its approval. This is normally a basic requirement so that other editors can track down what it is doing and why. Linked edit summaries can sometimes help with this as well. Since you speedily approved the operation - would you please consider why you think this isn't appropriate - or work with the operator to update their pages and or summary if it was an oversight. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 20:41, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Yes, this was an oversight. I was more concerned about why the user ran the bot without approval, and forgot about the user page.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 20:42, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
@Tohaomg: As I just mentioned above, I forgot about your userpage. Our policy requires that your userpage explain the tasks it does.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 20:53, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

TohaomgBot

I became aware of Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/TohaomgBot via a comment at wp:BN. I have some comments and I'm not quite sure to put them but I'm pretty sure that BN is not the right place. So I'll start here.

@Tohaomg:

I spend a fair amount of time fielding requests for logos in articles. While some logos are in public domain, most are not. My typical work process involves taking a logo provided by the company and reducing the size to comply with what I believe are fair use rules. On occasion, the original logo provided is an SVG but in most cases it is something else: JPEG, PNG and other options.

I know there has been some discussion about the use of SVG for logos. (Unfortunately, I haven't seen it in quite some time and don't have a link handy.) The obvious problem is that one of the main attributes of SVGs, the scalability, is actually a problem when it comes to a fair use image where we do not want an image that can be scaled up. I don't recall whether the consensus of the community is that this is not an issue we should worry about, but absent some clear consensus that we as a community no longer care about the reduced resolution aspect of fair use, I'd like some assurance that this bot won't be doing any conversions of their use images.

I note that the scope of the request refers to all name spaces, so I don't see anything in the discussion (I haven't looked at the source code) to ensure that such fair use images are not in scope.

I will also add that I can imagine some other exceptions, although I haven't tracked down an exact link. Presumably we have some articles either in mainspace or in Wikipedia space talking about conversion of or comparison of images among formats and would obviously not be a good idea to convert raster images to SVG in those articles. Has that been considered?--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:03, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

I can't speak for the bot operator, but if I understand the task correctly, the bot is started up by the operator by specifying an existing image, and then specifying an existing SVG replacement for it. So both images would have to exist in the first place. If the images themselves violate the copyright policy, and the operator is instructing the bot to make all these replacements xwiki, then I would say the botop is responsible since the bot isn't fully automatic in regards to what images it should start replacing on pages.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:35, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
@Sphilbrick:,
  1. I do the replace ONLY IF new image is on Commons. If it is uploaded locally, I do not.
  2. Generally I work with insignia of administrative units of Ukraine or neighbouring countries or with logos of government or government-owned organizations of Ukraine. All of above are not subjects to the copyright (in case of Ukraine by the 10th paragraph of the Law on copyright and related rights).
--TohaomgTohaomg (talk) 17:49, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you. I had the impression (although I now realize it was not explicitly stated) that you were generating SVGs not just identifying existing ones. Regarding my concerns for fair use images, the fact that you ensure that the image is on Commons should be adequate, as none of these images should be on Commons.--S Philbrick(Talk) 18:18, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

Wikinews NL Internet Archive Bot

Following this, there is consensus and your bot is listed on the request page. We are ready to submit a request to the stewards, then it will take another 5 days before a botbit is given. Maybe you can create a botaccountpage on the project? Later, you can activate it without any problems. I see you're busy, so take your time. --LIVE NIEUWS (talk) 22:58, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

Thank you

Complaint

How many times do I have to say this? STOP ARCHIVING ISURESULTS.COM. And no, I won't use some tool to report errors. You use this bot, so you should be careful. Trijnsteltalk 01:46, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Trijnstel, the last time you posted here, Cyberpower asked you a question and you never answered. So before you go yelling about how terrible the world is, maybe you should try explaining what's actually going wrong. Primefac (talk) 02:03, 23 July 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker)
Primefac We did explain [13]. The problem is clear, that is not the issue. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 07:20, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
@Trijnstel: This is the very first time you are asking me to stop rescuing sources to isuresults.com. The first time you came to me you gave an edit the bot made and told me something was wrong with it. That wasn't very helpful. You and Taketa came by and clarified the URL was dead. My response was in turn that the easiest way to report those issues is to use the tool I mentioned. It's easier for the reporter, and it's easier for me. I have since not heard back from either of you which suggests to me that the issue is resolved. And it was at that time resolved. Effeietsanders used the tool to report that URL on 4 July 2017, and it was automatically corrected and perceived as alive. See this. YOU NEVER MENTIONED THAT THE ENTIRE DOMAIN HAS AN ISSUE. An issue which apparently the bot has since picked up on and adapted to. Do you have any recent examples for me to look at, because IABot shouldn't be touching isuresult.com URLs?—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 12:44, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Yep, many. These are a few since 16 July: [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] [22]. I was extremely busy at work, so didn't have the time to give a comprehensive response sooner. And apologies for my language last night. It was simply annoying to login for the first time in seven days and to see so many of these edits on my watchlist again - I've reverted a bunch a few weeks ago as well - without the ability to do something about it. Trijnsteltalk 12:54, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
I'm glad we can converse productively over this. :-) I'll investigate immediately.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 13:01, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
@Trijnstel: So there is indeed a bug in the bot. The domain is locked into the Paywall state, meaning the bot can never be certain if the URL is alive or not. As such, it should be ignoring that URL in terms of establishing whether it's alive or not. However, the bot is rescuing the link anyways. This is an indication of a bug unrelated to its ability to see links dead or alive. This could be a consequence of the latest update (v1.4.2). It fixed several problems, but apparently brought several more to light. If I had rollback rights there, I could quickly revert the problematic edits for you with a script. IABot keeps track of which pages have URLs, or domains. Responding to your comment on nlwiki, I agree bots should do useful edits, but a bot like InternetArchiveBot is a bot project that has been attempted over and over again on enwiki and ultimately failed in the end. The reason why IABot is able to be a success, is the sheer complexity of the bot code driving it. It's really advanced, and it tries to apply thinking equivalent to a human to do its job. Naturally, the more complex a bot, the more work it takes to fix issues and make it more reliable.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 13:12, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
You might try to request rollback rights at nl:WP:AT, but not sure you will get it for this reason... (the crats usually only give it for antivandalism work). But is the conclusion that the problem is fixed now, or not yet? Trijnsteltalk 22:50, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Unfortunately not yet. But I can tell you this is contributing to the high false positive rate, if it isn't entirely responsible.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:55, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
@Trijnstel: I have found the bug and fixed it. You can expect to see this problem resolved when I deploy IABot v1.5.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 02:15, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
That's also the reason why I created these tools. I'm just one person working on a massive bot. If I could have users using the tools for simpler issues that I could have the tool fix for me, that would allow me to stay focused on code related bugs.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 13:15, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
  • @Trijnstel: Side question: Are you attending Wikimania 2017?—CYBERPOWER (Around) 20:01, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
    • No, I'm not. Trijnsteltalk 22:50, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Bummer. I would've have loved to talk to personally about IABot. :)—CYBERPOWER (Around) 22:55, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Not sure what to do

Here is the edit that the bot made to the page Britannia: [1] Neither on the "Original" link nor on the wayback machine link can one access the pdf that is linked to on the page.

However, here is the new ref I put in, and it works: [1]

Recommendations? I don't want to have to go in and fix by hand all the changes the Bot is making. Acad Ronin (talk) 03:17, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

As far the bot is concerned, it provided a working archive of the original URL. There's nothing more to say.—CYBERPOWER (Message) 03:26, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

IABot: Batch edit live status

Is it possible to batch edit the live status based on a URL pattern? It seems like all URLs with the pattern "http://valgresultat.no/xxxx/yyyy/?type=ko&%C3%A5r=2015" have live status "dying" now, and a few has already been marked as dead. I cannot change the whole domain however, since URLs with the pattern "http://www.valgresultat.no/bs.xx_xx.html" are actually dead. – Danmichaelo (talk) 14:55, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Hm, it's possible that whitelisting valgresultat.no and not www.valgresultat.no might work?Danmichaelo (talk) 14:56, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
@Danmichaelo: You can only change the states on a domain level. You can have a bot use the tool's API and make those changes to suit your pattern.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:54, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

IA Bot run for Snopes

I'm going to suggest that you run the IABot through any article that uses Snopes.com right now, as they are currently in danger of being shut down. I am letting you know, since I do not currently have the "changedomaindata" permission that seems to be needed to run that process. Elisfkc (talk) 16:43, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

IA is in contact with Snopes about archiving their site.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:54, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
