Carey Mulligan

Hi, I'm the user who tagged the Carey Mulligan article you've been working on for grammar and worldwide issues yesterday. The worldwide issue I was specifically referring to was the summary of An Education; the article currently refers only to the film's release and box office performance in the United States, and reaction to Mulligan by American critics. As An Education is a British film and Mulligan a British actress, attention should also be given to the film's release and performance in the UK (maybe even greater emphasis than the US release). Secondly, the article is in good need of a copyedit. I've left a note for extra help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers (which, by the way, you are more than welcome to join). The grammar issues shouldn't hold up the article's GA review, since GAN is backlogged by about two months due to other users flooding it with about five articles each and then not reviewing any themselves. I do hope this helps. Bradley0110 (talk) 14:59, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

peer review

I hope you don't mind but I added the Precious peer review to Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Review so hopefully it will get some more eyes from the project. --BelovedFreak 19:42, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

I see you intend to close the peer review. I have some points I was going to add to it, where do you think the best place for me to raise these points would be now? Regards, --BelovedFreak 20:36, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh sorry I wasn't aware that you were going to add to the review, sorry if it caused you any in-connivence, I had closed it because someone said it that the article shouldn't have two reviews open (peer review and they were planning on reviewing the article soon), but your more than welcome to add any points and or list any problems with the article on it's discussion/talk page here. Crystal Clear x3 (talk) 20:57, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I've left some comments. I've rambled on a bit, and as I say on the talkpage, it's just my opinion, just hope some of it helps.--BelovedFreak 22:25, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Do the Bartman

Hello, excellent work on the article. Just a small suggestion, if you are planning on taking it to FA, it would be good to add a section on the composition/structure of the song, like in the FA Smells Like Teen Spirit. Some more reception would also be nice (though I realize that finding such info for 20 year old works can be rather difficult). Either way, great job, and it would be nice to see you become more active in The Simpsons WikiProject (unless you're more of a Michael Jackson fan and not really a Simpsons fan... In that case, you should ignore that last bit). -- Scorpion0422 02:37, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments on the article, actually I'm a fan of Michael Jackson and the Simpsons. Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 03:03, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Michael Jackson's This Is It: The Music That Inspired the Movie

Hi, I browse GAN alot but never actually review articles (I stick to Featured Article Candidates). Still, I thought I'd point out some issues you'll want to remedy on Michael Jackson's This Is It: The Music That Inspired the Movie:

  • Per WP:ALBUM, reviews in the infobox are being phased out as we speak. If you still wish to showcase reviews, a new review template has been created to go into the critical reception section. Personally, I like to forgo the new template and simply keep the reception details in prose, because I don't feel a template/infobox listing is all that helpful for conveying critical consensus.
  • You need to explain the certifcication levels in the lead section. A gold or platinum record means something completely different depending on what country you are talking about.
  • Aside from the lead, it takes until the third paragraph of the critical response section for a mention of the context of Michael's death to show up. That seems like the sort of thing that should be more prominent in the article.
  • The soundclips are not valid under fair use. To include them, you need to comment on the clip itself to warrant their inclusion, and the clips must accompany relevant prose sections (don't stick them in the tracklist). Compare to In Utero, which utilizes fair use soundclips properly. Also, five is an excessive amount. Keept it to one or two.
  • I'd recommend doing away with the Relesae History section. Details about various release formats usually work better as prose. Even if you do have a lot to talk about to warrant a Release History section, it should be in prose. Also, don't rely on retailers for verification. Stick to news sites. We Are the World 25 for Haiti

There appears to be a problem with one of you edits, pertaining to the songs charts in France. You provided the reference "ChartsInFrance.net", and I do not feel it meets Wikipedia:RS. Websites such as "LesCharts.com" are considered reliable sources and are frequently used, on the website I checked both the top 100 singles and top 50 digital singles and it shows no listing for the song, at all. I'm removing the information for now, if the song shows up on LesCharts.com then I'll re-add it's charting position, until then the information should be removed. If you have any problems please respond here or on the articles talk page. Thanks Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 17:20, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Charts in France are available on lescharts.com, disqueenfrance.com, musiqueinfo.com and chartsinfrance.net, and that's a reliable source that has existed for 10 years, you'll see Friday when lescharts.com will publish the full charts "We Are the World 25 for Haiti" will be #25. On Tuesday a news is published by chartsinfrance with some positions, Wednesday or Thursday we can found on Ozap the sales and this is just Friday that authorized the dissemination of full charts on various websites, and then Friday I will change the link chartsinfrance by disqueenfrance or lescharts. I've just made numerous edits regarding the references, I think I've removed all the unreliable sources. I think I'd be able to properly format the references over the period of a few days, due you think you'd be able to hold the reassessment for that long? Thanks, Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 21:40, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

We Are The World 25

I saw on the talk page that you are listed as an active user on the new version of We Are The World, and I was hoping for your opinion.

I added a number of Navigation baoxes at the bottom of the page for a number of artists involved. I limited the additions to only those artists that were conductors or soloists on the song, and who have solo navigation box templates (i.e. Adam Levine is a part of the template for Marron 5, but does not have his own solo template, therefore he has no listing.)

I wanted your opinion as to whether navigation boxes should be added for the multitude of artists featured only in the chorus. Personally I felt that adding boxes for all those artists would crowd the page. Again I welcome a second opinion. thanks for your time, --Spence The Chef (talk) 04:00, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

In my opinion, due to the number of artist with involvement in/for the song, I think it would be better suited if the page contain templates for artists that are credited as conductors or writers or soloist, because while people credited as being part of the chorus have involvement in the song, theirs too many templates to be listed and they really do not have significant involvement in the song. Listing their names in the "Artist for Haiit musicians" should be enough. Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 04:11, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Amanda Seyfried

Hello, just to let you know, I'll be taking on the GA review for Amanda Seyfried. Normally I'd go for an article higher up the list on GAN, but I happened to be looking at the article and saw it was a GA candidate. I'll create the review page now but it might be a day before I can give you any useful feedback. I tend to do GA reviews quite informally to help improve the quality of the article rather than give a straight pass/fail, so if you need any help or you have any questions during the review, just ask. Look forward to working with you! Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 08:12, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi,
just FYI, you're article of "The Only Exception" has been restored; now that the single was released, the song has charted, and there are reliable sources covering it in detail, it passes WP:NSONGS. Stark Raving Dad

Hello, I saw that you are interested in improving the page to FA status. There is one thing I think the page is missing and perhaps you can help. Did Michael Jackson ever say anything, in an interview, book, etc., about the episode? Or, did any members of his family ever say anything? Also, I think the reception section could use a bit of expanding, so could you help with that too? Thanks, Scorpion0422 19:46, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

I haven't been able to find any reliable sources with any information about Jackson or his family members discussing the episode. Although, on the topic of the articles reception section, I added a quote box from one of the reviews. If there are anymore things I can do for the article to bring it to to FA status please let me know, thanks, Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 03:42, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

WP:GANs for Michael Jackson articles

It's great to see someone else working to improve the articles for a specific musical artist. However, in regularly checking out the list of Good Article nominations, I'm seeing a pattern of mistakes/issues that you're making throughout the Michael Jackson articles you are working on and nominating. I've tried to correct them as I see them, but I think it would be to your benefit if you understood what these problems are:

  • Neglect/misunderstanding of possessive case - please read about possessive case, as there is a difference between "songs composition" and "song's composition". The same goes for "countries chart" (this implies multiple countries) and "country's chart" (this refers to specifically one country's chart). I've see this as a pattern throughout articles you've worked on. If you're referring to a specific quality/attribute/object of a noun, you need an apostrophe and then an "s", not just an "s".
  • Misspellings - misspellings should not exist in an article that exemplifies "Good" quality. These are easily solved if you open the article editing window in Firefox, as misspellings are underlined red.
  • Jon Pareles - I've seen this writer's name misspelled whenever written
  • Prose in the charting section - the prose in these sections gets pretty repetitive to read after a few charts are mentioned. Most sentences are structured the same way, starting and ending with almost the same format. Try to restructure sentences so they aren't so dry. In some cases, saying how long the song spent in the Top 10, Top 20, and Top 100, the specific date that it did this and that... it's almost too detailed. I would also eliminate the phrase "the charts issue date of" from your vocabulary. It seems unnecessary when simply listing the date will suffice.
  • Prose in the reception section - the prose is also very repetitive in this section. "John Smith, a writer for Magazine, said...." It gets kinda boring to read that 4 or 5 times. Writer may not be an accurate word to call them by, either. It's much easier on the reader to see something along the lines of "John Smith of Magazine...". Or in some situations, sometimes you probably don't even need to attribute the specific author. Attribution is important, but I think in many cases the publication is notable enough and the author is worth mentioning only when they are notable. Work on drawing parallels between other authors' thoughts: "John Smith said this. Jane Doe echoed these sentiments, saying... Bob Johnson differed from most critics, stating..."
  • Numbers - the general guideline is that numbers over ten are written as numerals, but you can write them as prose if you want. Regardless, if you write them as prose, make sure you use a hyphen to connect separate words. "Sixty seven" is just plain confusing, as it reads like "60" and 7". Use a hyphen to make it "sixty-seven", or just write the number as 67 to avoid any confusion.
  • Country names - "Norwegian" is an adjective describing something or someone about the country Norway.

I don't mean to be critical, but I've seen a pattern emerge and I think you should pay attention to these issues in the articles you work on. Work them out, but also let others contribute to the articles before hastily nominating them as Good Articles. I would also encourage you to seek a peer review for each article you work on before making a nomination. Good luck with future editing. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 13:16, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, as well as always correcting mistakes in articles I nominate for GAs. I've always tried to read things like "Manual of Style" from Wikipedia but I always got confused and bored, but now that its been stated in a brief way, I now understand it. Sorry to chirp in here, but noticed your peer review request for "This Is It". I'm not one to particularly pick up on whether an article needs a copyedit (unless it's glaringly obvious), but as a writer of two featured song articles and two featured album articles, I think it stands a good chance at FAC. It might be worth asking SandyGeorgia her thoughts on the article, as she usually has sound advice, and more importantly, she promotes or opts not to promote FAC nominations. Bad (Michael Jackson song)

Hi again, I have reviewed Bad (Michael Jackson song) and placed it on hold for seven days with some concerns. You can see my review here: Talk:Bad (Michael Jackson song)/GA1. Canadian Paul 03:07, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Another Day (Michael Jackson song)

Hi, I've reviewed Another Day for you. Only a couple of things to be fixed, as it's a well written and sourced article. This is my first GA review, so I'm glad I picked it. I have asked another reviewer to have a double check of the article and my review, in case I've missed anything or got something wrong. :) - JuneGloom07 Talk? 17:04, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 17:05, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
Passed, well done. :) - JuneGloom07 Talk? 18:35, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Morphine (song)

No need to reply. It's just a comment. Seriously you think the article fail WP:NSONGS or it is just an impediment to make a GT of Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix album. TbhotchTalk C. 19:48, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

I honestly do not think the song is notable enough to have its own article. The song was not released as a radio or promo single, it did not chart anywhere, there is no information on the song (composition, or any of Jackson's inspiration for writing the song) and the background section is complete original research and speculation. The article has no reason to have its own article, which is why I re-directed it, not because of my planned Good Topic for B.O.T.D.F. Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 19:57, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
As I told you it's my point of view. Also "no information on the song" -> background section; "composition" -> had an Album credit section; "inspiration for writing the song" -> his History of drug abuse after Pepsi commercial; "background section speculation" -> you remove all speculation about. And again, it's *my* point of view. TbhotchTalk C. 20:32, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
The song does not have any information on the song itself because the background section is original research, also, just because the song is about drug abuse, it does not mean it is about his, comments on the Pepsi commercial triggering his drug abuse is also original research. The song does not have any actual information on the songs composition (i.e. the key it is played in, Jackson's vocal range, it's chord production, etc etc). This response is my point of view on the article. Crystal Clear x3 [talk] 20:51, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Death of Michael Jackson

The article Sunny Leone you nominated as a good article has failed  , see Talk:Death of Michael Jackson for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a reassessment.
