Vandalism

Dear Sir, I noticed that 72.74.145.96 keep edit warring and provide incorrect data on List of universities by number of billionaire alumni. I have checked the IP's contributions and it seems like it was doing the same thing on Eric Schmidt, Cher Wang, Walter A. Haas and Jared Goff...Could you help me with this matter as it is impractical for me to inspect these pages once every 3 days. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:B011:E00B:5C0C:9531:E576:F548:5E79 (talk) 19:01, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

I've reverted some of the edits and issued them a final warning. --Bongwarrior (talk) 19:56, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Dear Sir, this IP just won't stop vandalizing List of universities by number of billionaire alumni, and it has been doing it for more than a month (please see page history). Could you please block this IP or semi-protect the page. Again, thank you for your help.

Non admin heads up

Hey Bongwarrior. I know you are an admin and I am not, so this might not be my place, but I wanted to do an unofficial friendly warning to you. Please don't post an ITN nomination 20 minutes after it starts. Don't take that the wrong way, but yeah, you posted it way too fast...almost showing a lapse in judgement. Please don't be mad at me. Elijahandskip (talk) 21:28, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, no. This was obviously going to be posted, and there is absolutely no need to wait x number of hours to give everyone a chance to filibuster because the story isn't important enough to people in Tonga or wherever. --Bongwarrior (talk) 21:32, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
I too was in the process of posting it when I saw Bongwarrior already did it. Good posting. -- Fuzheado | Talk 21:37, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
And as an aside, admins aren't special. If you ever see one making a mistake - and many of us do - absolutely ask them about it. Most will welcome the scrutiny, as I do. --Bongwarrior (talk) 21:43, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Request for Revision Deletion

Hi Bongwarrior!

You probably don't remember me, but back in 2010 (when I was a very young child) a classmate used my account to make some especially inflammatory remarks. You blocked me from editing. Then later on when I wanted to use this account, I petitioned to you to unblock me and explained my situation. You unblocked me.

I'm wondering if you are able to delete those contributions from April of 2010 (which I, again, did not create when my account was stolen) as an admin? From what I understand from Wikipedia:Revision deletion this is a thing you can do. And it seems reasonable.

Much appreciated.

Seems reasonable to me too, so okay. --Bongwarrior (talk) 05:45, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Administrators' newsletter – July 2021

News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2021).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

  Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Thanks for dropping in and ending that. You could probably block the IPs too as they are almost certainly proxies. This seems to have been one person behind these edits, and the speed that were changing IP ranges at would suggest that those IPs are proxies. Mako001 (C)  (T)  08:06, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

Page needing moving

Hey. I see that the 2019–2021 Persian Gulf crisis page is outdated due to the page name. It should be located at 2019–2022 Persian Gulf crisis. However only admins can move it. Felicia (talk) 23:41, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

That would probably need a WP:RM discussion. --Bongwarrior (talk) 00:45, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
I wonder why since it has gone well into the current year. Felicia (talk) 01:39, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
That part of it is currently being discussed on the talk page, and it's the reason why it was move protected in the first place. --Bongwarrior (talk) 01:45, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

141.237.8.245 (LTA)

Thanks for blocking them for 1 week - this is an LTA who is currently traveling Greece (WP:LTA/WKHF). I told Widr to not block for just 31 hours due to the history of disruption and this LTA's tendency to wait out blocks, but they got unblocked normally and did it again.

Is there any way that you could semi the 4 latest pages targeted - The Curse of La Llorona, Crikey! It's the Irwins, The Evermoor Chronicles, and Black Shuck? I had asked on the 27th at RFPP but was declined. Thing is, there's been quite a few pages protected due to this LTA and those protections do indeed work; Evermoor Chronicles was also vandalized right off of its page protection expiring. Thanks. wizzito | say hello! 10:56, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

I'll try to keep an eye on them. I don't think all of those pages need semiprotection, but some of them probably will. --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:47, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
It's me again, just editing as an IP (I do so sometimes because lazy). Thanks for protecting two of the pages. Can you block 79.103.60.119, the newest IP, a little longer? The history of the LTA shows that they simply wait out blocks. Thanks, Wizzito [IP] 16:50, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
I will confirm that this is me, and that this is technically allowed. All my IP really gives is a general location, so I don't find it that bad.   wizzito | say hello! 17:04, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
It's probably fine for now. If they return with that IP, they'll be blocked. --Bongwarrior (talk) 06:27, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Said user is being disruptive at Chevrolet Corvette (C7), where it has been established that the Equus Throwback & IsoRivolta GTZ are built upon existing C7 & C7 Z06 chassis, as such qualifies to be placed under the related section, akin to the Lotus Exige & Hennessey Venom (or whatever its called). Said user has removed this, despite a past discussion on the talk page regarding this subject & has included insults in their edit summary. Seeing as you have previously blocked them for disruptive editing, I unfortunately have come here again to say that it doesn't seem to have changed.
