File permission problem with File:BPMN 2.0 example.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:BPMN 2.0 example.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 21:38, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:BPMN Event Types.png edit

A tag has been placed on File:BPMN Event Types.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Mephistophelian (contact) 14:22, 15 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

In the future I will tag these dupe images myself. I was unaware of the protocol. Thanks.

June 2013 edit

  Hello, I'm Dawnseeker2000. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Piping and instrumentation diagram, because it seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Link on page Circuit diagram edit

You wrote on my talk page:

>I added an external link to circuit diagrams since there is a free tool to make them.

On the link https://www.lucidchart.com/pages/examples/circuit-diagrams, that you placed on Circuit diagram, there is only a free trial available. F.i. saving is not even possible without paying. IMHO this site pretends to be free but is not. I suggest you remove this link again. --Ajv39 (talk) 12:44, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

  This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. Explaining edit

Explaining edit

I patrolled your page. I went through the enormously-backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that your page was okay: not spam, not an attack page, not a copyright violation, not any of the other reasons for which I would delete someone's page without asking. Then I clicked "patrolled" to remove it from the list of "pages that have not yet been patrolled", and moved on to the next entry. That's all. DS (talk) 16:22, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

WPEL edit

MrOllie thanks for watching out. Here is a link to a talk page where I explained what I was doing to another moderator. User_talk:TheOriginalSoni/Archive_6. Wikipedia:ELNO doesn't apply because the tool is completely free. Thanks! Wanting to move wikipedia out of the downloaded software dark ages doesn't make me a spammer. ;)

I hope reading that thread will help. If you still feel like it violates Wikipedia:ELNO will you be more specific about which policy (reference #) it violates? You will see that I got in some deep waters because I wasn't explaining what I was doing and why I was doing it, but everything was resolved once I explained myself. Bhanks (talk) 18:32, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Specifically it violates WP:ELNO points 4 and 13. Also, Your repetitive additions of this link on numerous articles (especially after being warned) are link spamming behavior. If you keep this up any longer, your link will be added to the black list. - MrOllie (talk) 18:34, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
    • I'm not sure helpful that threats are helpful in this situation. I think there is a difference between a disagreement about what is considered a good external resource to a page and name calling. If someone is repeatedly doing something you disagree with that doesn't make it inherently mean it is done in bad faith. Like I said before I do appreciate your position and am sure you have had it up to your eyeballs in bad actors. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bhanks (talkcontribs) 18:58, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
(4)The primary purpose is to let a visitor know that there is a free resource that they can use to make the kind of diagrams that they are reading about. Would you be opposed to it if I put up another free tool? Would that resolve this issue? (13) I disagree that this is not directly related. Most people visiting these pages are students looking for answers to a problem. The next logical step is to build something. This isn't true for every page but anytime you have some sort of diagram a link to a tool is in order, in my opinion. Did you have a moment to read the thread I linked to you? I mean the DFD page until recently didn't even have any images. I want to move away from garbage wikipedia pages that don't actually help you get anything or teach you anything. Those are just my thoughts. Thanks! Bhanks (talk) 18:55, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
A 14 day trial is not a 'free tool'. If you put up another free tool I might or might not object, it would depend on if you added the same link to dozens of pages, for one thing. I will say that it would be a very good idea for you to find something totally unrelated to LucidChart to edit about. I did read the thread you linked, and I really don't see how somebody telling you that they 'have no other knowledge of the policies in this case' was a green light for you to continue with your link additions. - MrOllie (talk) 18:57, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Also, if you are employed by LucidChart, I suggest you review our guidelines on conflict of interest. - MrOllie (talk) 19:22, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
(Uninvolved editor) normally, a conversation about external links placed by Bhanks belongs on Bhanks' user talk page, so I am WP:BOLDly moving this from User talk:MrOllie to User talk:Bhanks. If anyone objects to this, WP:BRD explains what to do. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:05, 18 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

COI editing and required disclosure edit

  Hello, Bhanks. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. People with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, see the conflict of interest guideline and frequently asked questions for organizations. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, its competitors, or projects and products you or they are involved with;
  • instead, propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

Last but not least: All contributors must not contribute content that violates conflict of interest laws (just as all contributors must respect copyright). The Unfair Commercial Practices Directive is valid throughout the European Union. In a German court decision in 2012 (that also relied on the directive) regarding Wikipedia: "The court held that when a company edits a Wikipedia article, the resulting text falsely creates the impression that the edit has no business-related purpose. By implication, the judges found that the average reader of Wikipedia articles expects to find objective and neutral information." That is a very very important condition, comparable to the FTC Guide" that consumers are likely to believe reflects the opinions, beliefs, findings, or experience of a party other than the sponsoring advertiser”. This expectation by consumers of neutral information on Wikipedia, requires that companies not write "their" WP articles for PR/marketing purposes.

Editors who are compensated for their contributions should make the disclosure by placing the {{connected contributor (paid)}} template at the top of the talk page of affected articles and filling in the parameters. They should also supply this information as part of a list on their user page of all their paid contributions.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing, and autobiographies. Thank you. Kuru (talk) 11:26, 20 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of AccountingWEB edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on AccountingWEB, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Hey guys! I'm not affiliated with accountingWEB in any way. There are a couple major online accounting new sites and I noticed that Accounting Today had a page so I figured I should also create one for accountingWEB. They have been around since 2001 and are well known in the industry so I don't think section G11 applies here. Let me know what you want to do here. Bhanks (talk) 20:56, 18 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Editing with a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Bhanks. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Largoplazo (talk) 20:51, 18 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Richard II edit

Hi Bhanks,

Thanks for helping out on Richard II! I had to revert your changes for various reasons, and just wanted to drop you a note saying thanks and explain the reasons for reverting.

  1. You generally shouldn't use Britannica as a citation for information on Wikipedia. Britannica, like Wikipedia itself, is a ternary source: it summarises the secondary sources. What you want are good secondary sources, preferably ones published on a university press or in a peer-reviewed academic journal. There is no bright line rule about sources like this, but in an area like Shakespeare, where there are so many high quality sources available, other ternary sources would need a very strong reason to be used.
  2. The lead section of an article should summarise the rest of the article. Thus any change you make there should have been preceded by changes to the body of the article somewhere, where it's possible to go into far more detail. This is, incidentally, why lead sections generally do not need to be cited: they just summarise the article body, which should already be cited.
  3. The syntax to add a citation is actually <ref>…</ref>, and the {{cite encyclopedia}} template just formats the ref properly for display. There are tons of citation templates, but most of them do not add the <ref>…</ref> tags, so they need to be wrapped in those in most cases (unless you're using shortened footnotes).

Anyways, I didn't want to revert your changes without explaining why. Cheers, Xover (talk) 04:56, 19 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ramaksoud2000Bot (talk) 23:01, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:AccountingWEB logo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:AccountingWEB logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. AntiCompositeNumber (Leave a message) 14:19, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Investment edit

Hey there! I just re-launched the WikiProject Investment.

The site has been fully revamped and updated and I would like to invite you the project.

Feel free to check out the project and ping me if you have any questions.

I'd like to invite you to join the Investment WikiProject. There are a lot of Investment related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help get this project off the ground and a few Investment pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks!

Cheers! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 15:26, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

There's enough warnings on this page; please stop adding links to ZipBooks. I will blacklist the site the next time you add it. Kuru (talk) 15:01, 17 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom 2017 election voter message edit

Hello, Bhanks. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Bhanks/Edward Leo Lyman edit

A tag has been placed on User:Bhanks/Edward Leo Lyman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
