F.A.K.-Volksangbundel moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, F.A.K.-Volksangbundel, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Redirects

edit

Hallo, Thanks for creating Spatalla racemosa. I see that you have bolded the common name in the lead sentence, but you forgot to make a redirect from Lax-stalked spoon. I've done so, but please remember that the bolding of such names is only used to indicate the target of an incoming redirect (see MOS:BOLD) - and redirects are a vital part of the encyclopedia as they help the reader who knows the common name, and also make it less likely that a future enthusiastic but less-than-thorough editor will create a duplicate article. PamD 12:26, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Looking above, I see that someone else has already created redirects from Golden spiderhead and Star spiderhead to articles you've created. PamD 12:28, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Dagbani Wikipedia

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dagbani Wikipedia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Fram (talk) 14:53, 14 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Spatalla ericoides into Spatalla colorata. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:50, 16 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

The pages that I create I mainly translate from the Afrikaans Wikipedia. 505noscope (talk) 19:06, 16 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Attribution is required for that as well. Please do an edit summary similar to the above (here's an example), and also if the copying is extensive, there's an optional attribution template {{translated page}} you should add to the talk page. — Diannaa (talk) 22:17, 16 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Draft

edit

If you are going to create articles without wikilinks or in-line references, please do so in draft space, they aren't ready for article space. Also book refs need page numbers. I've moved some, haven't the time to shift them all Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:44, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Jimfbleak: Hi, this editor's initial versions of articles don't have wikilinks because they use Google Translate. With this in mind, I'd like to consult you about a specific set of their articles:
  • Groote Kerk, Graaff-Reinet. In May 2022 Buidhe stubified it as an uncredited machine translation from afrikaans wiki. That article was created in March 2022.
This August, more similar articles have been created:
  • Moederkerk, Swellendam — another uncredited machine translation with nonwords such as "drosdy" and unseemly Google translated WP:POV prose such as "Times of extraordinary spiritual blessings and revivals characterize the congregation's history and have contributed much to its rich past." (I was specifically able to confirm that it's Google translate)
  • Moederkerk, Stellenbosch — another uncredited machine translation (also confirmed Google Translate) consisting of the first three paragraphs of the first h2 of the Afrikaans article
  • Dordrecht Reformed Church — another uncredited machine translation of the Afrikaans article lead + list of ministers
  • Dutch Reformed Church, Alexandria — same as previous
  • Dutch Reformed Church, Aberdeen — this one is not an uncredited (machine) translation but it has many problems; this is the article which I first encountered and then did this research; the editor has opposed my bold merge while not leaving as much as a summary (fine), and has not made any comments either on this talk page or on the article's talk page.
I think the editor should engage in a discussion. I also think that they should be warned not to create articles with these specific problems in mainspace. Among the problems which I won't elaborate on are: poor quality of prose (even if the translation and copyediting was good), really poor verifiability, and the occasional POV. Another massive problem is the lack of focus, whereby it isn't clear what the article is about (they seem to be about churches at first but talk about the churches as buildings very little or not at all).
Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.—Alalch E. 21:19, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Alalch E., thanks. 505noscope, please read the above carefully. If you translate a text, you must credit the source, and if you have used machine translation, you must copy-edit the text, add wikilinks, remove opinions (eg Times of extraordinary spiritual blessings and revivals characterize the congregation's history and have contributed much to its rich past. for Moederkerk) and make sure all your text is properly referenced. If you are unwilling to do that, or lack sufficient fluency in English, please create as a draft. Otherwise, it's likely that future versions will be moved to draft by others, particularly if you don't engage with other editors Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:30, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Dutch Reformed Church, Aberdeen

edit

Hello, 505noscope,

Thank you for creating Dutch Reformed Church, Aberdeen.

I have been reviewing the page as a part of our page curation process and I'm notifying you about the following:

This page which you have created is about the history of Aberdeen, South Africa and its content has therefore been merged to that article. The history of the congregation, which is at the same time the history of the church town, should not be a separate article per WP:PAGEDECIDE. The article did not contain practically any content about the church building while being named and categorized as being about that. It could be that the actual building is independntly notable. If sources are found about the building, it could be a good idea to replace the redirect with new content about the building.

Hi thanks for creating this article. When we translate or borrow from other language wikis it’s a requirement to acknowledge the source. The best way to do this is to include it in your edit summary (e.g. “translated from nl.wiki”) and there’s also a translation template you can add to the talk page. If you can confirm where material for this article was sourced I’ll add the template to the talk page for you if it is needed. Happy editing and please leave a message on my talk page if you need any help Mccapra (talk) 19:10, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Dutch Reformed Church, Alexandria

edit

The article Dutch Reformed Church, Alexandria has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The only available independent coverage appears to be a brief mention in a book about the Voortrekkers ([1]), no other usable results showed up in English and Afrikaans Scholar, Books, and internet searches

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 14:57, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
