There has been a history over many months of various unregistered IP users adding content to this article without citations to verifiable sources. This has been discussed on the talk page of at least one of the unregistered IP users. Often, family members or friends claim they simply "know" certain facts. And in this case, some information has been included with citations reflected as "according to Chet." Such sourcing does not meet Wikipedia's standards for verifiable sourcing. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and factual statements need to be supported by verifiable sources. Information about Murphy's asserted service in WWII is one example. The information is interesting, but the users inserting the information have been unable to provide a source -- and research by this editor has found none. In addition, there has been a tendency to include a number of facts concerning Murphy's brother, Chet. Some of these are appropriate as they relate to Chet and Bill playing together as a doubles team. Others are not appropriate to an article about Bill, as they relate solely to Chet (e.g., his education and his life after Bill's death). Chet may well pass Wikipedia's standards for notability by himself, and a user may want to consider writing a new article about Chet. But it is a distraction in an article about Bill Murphy to have lots of extraneous details about his brother. Cbl62 (talk) 04:23, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
- A separate article has now been created for Chet Murphy. Any pertinent sourced information on Chet Murphy can now be added to that article. Cbl62 (talk) 00:18, 18 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
