Why "Thomas"? edit

I am curious as to why she changed her name to Thomas. I kind of expected there to be something in the article explaining this. BD2412 T 16:48, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @BD2412: Thanks, good catch. I added a bit to the text. Some religious orders have their members take new names, usually those of saints or with some other religious significance. (Two other examples of women who took men's names are Sister Gregory Kirkus and Mother Joseph Pariseau.) Welder was probably named after one of the men listed in Saint Thomas#People. • Thanks - I suppose, at least, that they didn't choose that name for themselves. BD2412 T 18:19, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Death "hoax" edit

An IP has been trying to remove referenced information of the subject's death, stating it was a hoax. I find no reliable reference for that, indeed all reliable reference point to the subject's demise. Ifnord (talk) 00:51, 25 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • The University of Mary (and presumably her religious community) have referenced it here: [1] so I think that's uderlying confirmation. It seems unlikely that the news organizations have been duped. KevinCuddeback (talk) 02:03, 25 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
