TnaG to TG4

edit

How do you assume that one viewer's suggestion was the reason behind the rebrand. I am sure that TnaG had been working on the rebrand for a number of years. Need for some kind of source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talkcontribs) 10:02, 15 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation of the word ceathair(4)

edit

I suppose if we were to anglicize the pronuciation/spelling of the word ceathair would be Ca-Her? But I think Wiki has away of explain pronuciations. IrishTV (talk) 13:56, 27 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Afric" would have been a world-wide-hit if it had been in english: TG4 are selling themselves short!

edit

"Afric" is a great teenage show. Its funny, not over-the-top and its relevent to everyday life. I think if it had been in english it would have been a world-wide-hit.TG4 are really selling them selves short by limiting their audiences to a tiny number of teens that speak a language well ; that most of the world barely know someone that can barely stammer out a poorly pronounced hello in.And yet it still somehow became popular. It should be filmed in english or at least dubbed into it and released onto mainstream TV in Ireland and the UK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.78.170.83 (talk) 22:20, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Most of the world doesn't speak English, the show could be dubbed or subtitled into various other languages just as many US, UK and Australian shows are dubbed into many different languages. TG4 have had international success with animation such as Skunk Fu. There are a huge number of Gaelscoileanna around the country. Surprisingly they seem to have many teens able to speak the language in Afric, Seacht and Ros Na Run. Most of TG4s Dramas have been well received on their Mainstream channelIrishTV (talk) 11:30, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Audience figures

edit

--80.169.162.100 (talk) 15:37, 24 November 2010 (UTC) The audience figures cannot be right. Ireland has a population of just over 4m in the Republic. An audience of 800,000 would be 20% of the entire population, which is obviously larger than the number who watch television. Yet the article says the channel has 3% of total viewing. An audience of 800,000 would be 10 times the upper limit of people who are fluent in the language. It must be massively wrong.Reply

So you're suggesting that more than 80% of Irish people don't watch television (seriously, come off it), that there are no more than 80,000 fluent Irish speakers (looking at Irish language that's the figure for first language and the majority of fluent speakers are second-language), and that no non-fluent Irish speakers watch TG4 (it has many programmes either in English or subtitled in English which are watched by Anglophones who cannot speak Irish fluently)? I think you'll find you're a bit off the mark with those claims! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.79.42.50 (talk) 19:26, 24 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
The figure is of people who simple tune into the channel on a daily basis. The 2 - 3% is the average number that stay with the channel. And yes TG4 provide programming with subtitles and in English. IrishTV (talk) 13:37, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Why is the fundamental role of Michael D. Higgins omitted from this TG4 article?

edit

The article about Michael D. Higgins states that as Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht he "set up the Irish language television station, Teilifís na Gaeilge (subsequently renamed TG4)". Strangely, this very detailed treatment of Teilifís na Gaeilge/TG4 does not refer to Higgins once. Why is that, and can someone who knows the details of Higgins's role introduce them to this TG4 article, please? — O'Dea (talk) 06:15, 12 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have now place a small bit on Michael Ds role in the establishment of TG4, I will try to ad more detail, The Labour Manifesto from 1992 does not mention the channel. IrishTV (talk) 20:31, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Where is Corp & Anam set?

edit

I have the impression that it is set in Athlone but I have seen no direct and unambiguous evidence of that. I have only watched it on DVD and have therefore seen only Series 1 and 2.

Does anyone know the answer? ---Dagme (talk) 02:41, 12 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Home School Hub

edit

On 9 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Home School Hub, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that before becoming a presenter of Home School Hub, teacher Clíona Ní Chiosáin played the title role in the Irish-language teen drama Aifric? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Home School Hub. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Home School Hub), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Corp & Anam

edit

There needs to be a page for "Corp & Anam". I searched for Corp & Anam and was redirected to the TG4 page. On that page, there are just two lines about Corp & Anam and the information presented is far less than anyone searching Wikipedia for Corp & Anam would already know.

Corp & Anam is a major drama and one of the very best European TV series. It does not deserve short Schrift on Wikipedia. ---Dagme (talk) 00:15, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
