Belgian edit

Surely if she was born in Belgium and lived there for 13 years then she's Belgian by birth but Irish by blood? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8084:9620:1C00:1DC8:DA92:F56A:9E02 (talk) 22:58, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

This reference [1] has her part Irish, not Northern Irish. Just thought I'd mention it as the page now says Northern Irish, but I don't want an edit war. Red Jay (talk) 10:42, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in Stella Maxwell edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Stella Maxwell's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "fmd":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 17:48, 9 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Nationality edit

Surely this has been talked about before, but I have concerns with referring to Maxwell as a "Belgian" model, and what her nationality is in general. She was born in Belgium, yes, but to a diplomat father from Northern Ireland (hence it was his job to represent the United Kingdom in Belgium) and she attended an international school that taught in English, not Belgian schooling. Isla Fisher is not Omani and Keanu Reeves is not Lebanese. I propose her nationality be changed to "Northern Irish-New Zealand".

Northern Ireland – As the child of a diplomat, it is safe to assume she is solely a citizen of the United Kingdom (and perhaps Ireland as a Northern Irish person) and Wikipedia protocol ensures British people are referred to by their home country first unless they have clearly expressed themselves as identifying as British over English/Scottish/Welsh/Northern Irish/etc. which I do not believe Maxwell has.
New Zealand – The country where she began her modeling career and was discovered.

On the her Wikidata page, it's written that she is Belgian and British (Stella Maxwell — Wikidata). Jeanne Angerie (talk) 17:29, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for bringing this up months after @Jeanne Angerie, but regardless, there's no proof she has Belgian citizenship. Belgium does not have jus soli the same way United States does (AFAIK). Either way, her father was a British diplomat and many countries that have jus soli have restrictions against that anyways.
She didn't gain notability in Belgium, does not have Belgian parents and it's largely contextual the same way @Jjj1238 notes that Isla Fisher is not "Omani", Keanu Reeves is not "Lebanese", and other notable people like Tim Tebow isn't "Filipino" and Olivia de Havilland was not "Japanese".
That said, the current wording[1] was added without discussing here, and is extremely clunky. Since there has been zero progress on this, and Maxwell's life is rather extraordinary, I've removed mention of nationality for now. Similar to the consensuses reached for Elon Musk or Paulina Porizkova. I believe some past revisions have tried calling her "Belgian-born Northern Irish-New Zealand" or "British-Irish-New Zealand", which are awkward, and I'd be against noting three nationalities in her lede. Furthermore, place of birth is usually omitted per WP:ETHNICITY. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 09:44, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
