Changes
editChanged spelling from Je to Jey and Me to Mey, to be consistent both with the spelling of Jamchen Chojey and with popular pronunciation - they are pronounced "may" and "jay", not "mee" and "jee".
Added information about the post-exodus Sera Mey monastery. I hope this isn't stated in an undiplomatic way - comments are solicited.
Added "famous graduates." I'm not sure this is the right thing to do. It seems relevant, and the names I've added are, to my knowledge, the better known graduates, but my knowledge is necessarily somewhat skewed, since these are all Lamas in my lineage (Sera Mey) or in my lineage's sister lineage (Sera Jey). It could be that if a truer representation of the Lamas were placed here, it would be unweildy.
I am also not sure about providing details about these Lamas. On the one hand, I think it makes the list more interesting, and suggests directions of research. On the other hand, it's hard to give a a balanced list that doesn't make one Lama seem more important than another (what do you say about a Lama whose most obvious contribution is simply to embody the teachings and pass them on to anyone who asks, as opposed to a Lama who has written a well-known book or founded a well-known organization?) Also, the information is (hopefully) duplicated on their own pages.
So I hope this update is valuable, and I equally hope that if someone feels my changes are inappropriate or too extensive, they communicate that rather than remaining silent.--Ted Lemon 22:15, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

1947 Rebellion
editNothing on the 1947 anti-Taktra rebellion? Sounds pretty important to me! Fred 163.1.234.221 (talk) 19:13, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Sera, India
editThe article mentions Sera, India, but where is that place? --DThomsen8 (talk) 14:26, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- The article says it's in Mysore, in or near Bylakuppe—Greg Pandatshang (talk) 16:48, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Two articles?
editI think this should probably be split into two separate articles — one for Séra Monatery in Tibet and one for Séra Monastery in India. Both are very significant and deserve their own articles - keeping them together gets a bit confusing. Chris Fynn (talk) 14:18, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Activity attributed to the Dalai Lama?
editOn the Festival section of the article, it says:
"The Dalai Lama offers prayers to the Buddha to bestow strength and blesses the Pestle."
This refers to the activities performed during the Sera Bengqin Festival in Sera Monastery in Lhasa, in current times. It's incorrect, since the Dalai Lama has not been in Tibet from 1959 onward. I'm not sure if the text meant to refer to some other Buddhist authority or it meant that the Dalai Lama performs those actions from away (in India).
Thanks, this is my first contribution to Wikipedia.
