Death edit

I'm seeing reports on blogs that Mr. Jackson has passed away at home. I'm still looking for a verifiable source. —Wrathchild (talk) 16:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

This seems pretty good, http://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/news_detail.aspx?articleid=49858 Zzorse 16:33, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Seeing Michael Jackson's name in the death page scared me edit

I thought it was the Michael Jackson everyone knows - Jcdizon 17:53, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, not the pop singer, and although he may not be known by "everyone", this man was quite famous in his own right. Microbrewers and pubowners all over the world, as well as beer drinkers such as myself, are quite familiar with Jackson's work and legacy, and are saddened by his death. --buck 19:47, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Jcdizon's post here makes me sad and even a little angry, mainly because i know he's not the only one who will have that reaction. Seeing Mr. Jackson's name on the death page scared me too, but i wasn't for a moment thinking about the has-been 'king of pop'. I love single malt whisky and flavorful beer. for the popularization/availability that those drinks are enjoying at the moment, i think I owe Michael Jackson quite a bit of thanks. I hate to think that the other guy is the way this name is going down in history. 66.148.132.114 18:53, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow, interesting to see this nearly two years later, after the singer has died. 75.182.106.197 (talk) 01:03, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Expanding edit

This article is really shamefully short and would really need to be expanded. MJ was probably the most well known beer (and whisky) reviewer. A good starting point would be to look through the different language wikipedias for tidbits of information. --MoRsE 22:34, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good job all on the expansion of this article. It looks much better than it did a day ago. Too bad it took the subject's death to spur us into action. —Wrathchild (talk) 18:38, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. It would also be nice if a better photo could be found. Zzorse 19:34, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
The extra information is mainly from the Dutch wikipedia...any other information would greatly be appreciated. --MoRsE 19:37, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I had the luck to meet Mr Jackson some time in the mid-1990s, when he was touring Finnish micro-breweries. He was just as fascinating in real life as in his stories, although I remember he preferred to talk about whiskies that time. --MoRsE 19:45, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
The best was when he appeared on Conan O'Brien and was drunk and his fly was down.--Apples99 02:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Apples99 (talkcontribs)

Sexuality edit

I don't quite remember the criteria for commenting on a person's sexuality in an article, but the last paragraph from the Guardian obituary, unless I misunderstand, seems to indicate Jackson was homosexual. Perhaps bisexual?

He is survived by Paddy Gunningham, his partner for 26 years, his stepdaughter Sam, her children Ben and Emily, and his sister Heather. [emphasis mine]

Worth noting? --BDD (talk) 05:45, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Paddy Gunningham was his long-term girlfriend. --MoRsE (talk) 08:07, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The problem with the web is that people like 'the person questioning Michael jackson's sexuality' make assumptions based on sensationalism. You fail to think that these are real people with real families, real lives, and real emotions. As the most authoritative voice in the beer and whisky world, Michael Jackson had a passion for fine reporting. He was a journalist first, and often cautioned me about lifting unconfirmed information from inanimate sources, particularly the Internet. Certainly, it does no good to split hairs at this point. Michael has died, and nothing will bring him back - although, as the legendary St. Michael, he may surprise us. Many sources say that Michael is "survived by his girlfriend, Paddy Gunningham." Old news, indeed. Paddy left Michael in 2000 - moved out. After his death, she did tell the Associated Press that she was his "partner." Might I add, this was not a falsehood. She WAS his "former" partner. However, the words, "his girlfriend, Paddy Gunningham" are dead wrong. In "A Taste of Whisky" by Hans Offringa, Michael confirmed this fact. He wrote the Foreword for Offringa's book only 5 days before his death: "When we met, Hans and I had different partners. Soon afterwards, he met and married Becky, who is from Charleston, South Carolina. Then I met my present partner Carolyn, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hans has translated my work with meticulous care. When Carolyn and I have been separated by the Atlantic, and I have been ill on the road, Becky has looked after me." There are, perhaps, a million sources on the internet that claim Paddy as his partner. As Michael cautioned me, one error on the Internet is impossible to correct. He would be appalled... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beer Fox (talkcontribs) 13:55, 9 April 2009 (UTC) Beer Fox signs this commentBeer Fox (talk) 16:17, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

'Paddy' a woman? Sounds like a male name to me. 82.141.119.79 (talk) 14:35, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't remember writing this, and I disown it as very sloppy. It's right there in the statement I quoted: "her children Ben and Emily." --BDD (talk) 17:00, 6 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
