Global revision: Change from “Kim” to “Jin” edit

Could we make a global revision and refer to Jin as “Jin” rather than “Kim”?

First, “Jin” is how he’s known as a BTS member. While the stage names of other BTS members are used in their respective wiki pages, “Jin” is a more appropriate option for the sake of coherence.

Second, “Jin”, “Seokjin”, and “Kim Seokjin” – but rarely just “Kim”, if ever – are how he’s addressed officially by his music label, by the media both foreign and local, by his fans, and in his own introduction in various appearances.

Also, using “Jin” helps avoid misunderstanding because two other members also share the same surname “Kim”. ElfZiry (talk) 05:39, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Read Frequently asked questions (FAQ) above. Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 06:03, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
The other BTS members all have their stage names as the title for their page, could we change Jin’s page title from “Kim Seok-jin” to “Jin”, for the sake of coherence?
By doing so, we can then make a global change from “Kim” to “Jin”, which is a better option for the reasons cited above, in the original question. ElfZiry (talk) 06:26, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ElfZiry Not sure if you read the FAQ above, but I will linked it here again in case you didn't actually read it or couldn't find it. The FAQ already answered your queries. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 06:33, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I had only read FAQ (A2) before I made my previous reply. Thanks for pointing me to the full FAQ section, where (A1) has answered my question. ElfZiry (talk) 06:43, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Photo edit

Could you add a newer and nicer photo of him, please? There are so many photos of him from the Astronaut promo and his photofolio. Looks like you didn't even put effort in searching. And refer to him as Jin under the photo because is his stage name. Thanks 181.94.233.126 (talk) 16:50, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Kim Seok-jinJin (singer) – Per WP:COMMONNAME, precedent from other members of BTS. No demonstrated WP:N under current article title. Seungri400 (talk) 03:20, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose - This was last discussed here Talk:Kim_Seok-jin/Archive_1#Requested_move_19_August_2019 and the same concerns remain. I don't think Jin (singer) is enough to disambiguate from other singers with this stage name. Evaders99 (talk) 04:43, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree, especially since Seokjin has other business endeavors besides being a singer. He's a restaurant co-owner and establishing a brewery. Having his wiki page under "Kim Seokjin" seems appropriate to highlight all these different professional avenues. 2607:FEA8:33A0:D400:ECFD:6FB0:4AF7:AC52 (talk) 12:22, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. Jin is his official stage name. His official artist profiles also refer to him as Jin. Examples: Official website: [1] Spotify: [2] Other articles that are disambiguated as Jin use it as a surname, Astro's Jin Jin doesn't use the singular name. Jin is the only notable person that qualifies to be distinguished as a singer. Refer to this list of people with the name Jin: [3] Btspurplegalaxy 🗩 🖉 06:30, 1 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Support per nom, he is well known as Jin not by his real name Kim Seok-jin. Lightoil (talk) 13:05, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom (also agree with DanielleTH's comments). It doesn't matter if he has other business endeavors; he is mainly known for being a singer. The average person googling BTS members will look up Jin, not his actual name. - Ïvana (talk) 15:00, 2 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
    • Support and agreed with this.

– Both singers are CLEARLY the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, as they are popular worldwide as members of BTS. I searched for both "Jin" and "RM" on Google and both BTS members popped up first. Whaddaya think? RMXY (talk) 02:39, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Survey for Jin (singer) → Jin edit

  • Oppose, based on the sheer number of topics of greater historical importance by this name. Any of the half dozen subjects at Jin Dynasty alone is more significant. BD2412 T 14:34, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per User:BD2412. "Jin" is a common surname, the name of more than one Chinese dynasty, another word for a catty, and a language variety spoken by 60 million people. Looking at the criteria at WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, the singer clearly fails PT1 (long-term significance) and is at best questionable for PT2 (usage). —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 14:40, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • If you're thinking of the usage criterion for primary topics, please do have a look at https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=Jin where we can observe some of the actual reader behavior. It shows a wonderful spread of reader interest across dozens of different topics, none of them close to overarching all the others. Now, this could indicate that our navigation is horrible and we're detracting most readers from reading about the actual primary topic, but that seems exceedingly unlikely. --Joy (talk) 15:09, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Jin dynasties. Long-term significance exists because of cases like these. Srnec (talk) 03:07, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Survey for RM (musician) → RM edit

  • Oppose, based on the sheer number of topics of greater historical importance by this two-letter acronym. BD2412 T 14:34, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • As noted above, looking at https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=RM we see a lot of interest in the musician, however, there was a relatively small total traffic of 788 or 737 in a month (this difference is a bit confusing in itself, but helpful as it reminds us not to treat this data as gospel), and then 242 visits to the proposed primary topic. That's just ~30-33% going there. It could mean that they can't find the musician, but it's the first entry in the list, so that seems unlikely. The more likely explanation is that the remaining ~67-70% of the readership is interested in something else. It wouldn't make sense to send all those people to the musician and have them click a hatnote to get back on track, unless the musician's long-term significance is also overwhelming compared to all the other topics. --Joy (talk) 15:15, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per BD2412. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:25, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Comments applying to both topics edit

  • Oppose: Regardless of Wikinav and measures of current popularity, these RM proposals seem to fail WP:PT2, as the boy band members don't seem primary with respect to long-term significance. This tends to be a problem with names that contain only two or three letters. — BarrelProof (talk) 19:05, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose both of them are far from primary topics. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 23:42, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, no evidence of these being the primary topic. 162 etc. (talk) 05:09, 27 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. No long term significance, cultural recentism here Evaders99 (talk) 03:51, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Strong oppose WP:RECENTISM clearly not. There is nothing showing either of these are primary topics. "Jin" has many long-term significance topics, and Jin is a common name. RM has so many uses with greater significance -- 65.92.244.99 (talk) 05:15, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose: Both subjects are not primary topics and the long term significance is unclear. Lightoil (talk) 10:30, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Absolutely, clearly, definitely, not the primary topics for either term. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:14, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Clan edit

He's currently categorized under Category:Gwangsan Kim clan, but there's nothing in the body of the article to support that. Can someone find a source for that and add it into the body? toobigtokale (talk) 12:27, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

You can use the same source used for RM, both Jin and V said their clans immediately before (or after) him. Chiyako92 16:42, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
