When was she born?

she is great!

Yeah she is great, but the article needs re-writing. I think it's unfair to say that she could be described as a combination of other artists. Perhaps "Her style has been likened to that of...." with a cited source. "intricate tunings" ? Tunings can be different, unusual or unconventional, but it's her playing that is intricate, not the tunings. I haven't got time to make serious changes now, but it would be great if someone could.PunkOn 06:36, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Id have to disagree bro, double open tunings (legs to make us longer), C# combinations, viola tunings, also, random peg turning...her tunings are intricate, at the least, its no drop D half step man, this talent is playing tunings made for slide guitars 60 years ago, and traditionally Russian 7ths in some spots on her first two releases.

i do agree about the influences though, in a world of post modernism, people want to call something something they already are familiar with. I think that she is influenced by micheal hedges playing styles but in her own defence, micheal hedges was not a 4"8 24 year old lesbian woman with a guitar, thus they are different.

get used to genre-izing, its what un intelligent people do to try and paste something familiar on something new, i would just say she is fusion, but that me. LONG LIVE the tapping lesbian guitar goddess, she really is one of the best in the world. GUITAR GOD FOR SURE

Major Reformat of page

I don't know what kind of clarification you need Wiki, but I (kinda want my privacy from here, you know what it is). Reformatting Kaki King's wiki into a more comprehensive page is one of tasks given to me, and I am doing it. How you want me to be more neutral to the subject at hand or verify who I am, I dont know. But Im taking your suggestions. I'd also like to upload a new photo of Kaki to this page if youd like to help out.

You've done a very nice job so far. Thank you. The only articles that get locked in some way are the ones that are being actively vandalized or are frequently vandalized. Wikipedia is a community, and articles are not owned by any one editor (or even group of editors.) As usual, others have expressed it better than I can: WP:OWNER. Don't worry, articles are never really 'done', and there are many editors that keep watch over articles so that any vandalism is reverted quickly.

thanks, and I appreciate it, as im still getting the hang of everything. if there is any incorrect grammar or words that would be deemed as "promotion" or anything like that, please feel free to pull those out. at this point, the general layout of what this page should look like is done, its just about going into details and providing more references and possibly one more photo. it will be completed on monday, as its time to go enjoy myself at ComiCon for a while. lol. if you have any tips or suggestions, PLEASE leave them. also, how would i find out if this will be upgraded from start class to something else?

Empress Ericka, I have to say that you have done a lot of work on this article that improves it due to having inside information, unfortunately when you use adjectives that are flattering and not related to notable criticism you are breaking wikipedia guidelines. Just being a representative for Velour is breaking wikipedia guidelines. I personally don't have any problems with any of your contributions because I think King is a awesome and the new format is great. However, admins could now justifiably tag this article for not being from a neutral point of view or as being written like advertising. My advice would be to just clean up any adjective that could come off as sounding like you are writing an ad for her. Or if you want to include some good endorsements just cite some notable music journalists who I am sure will have excellent things to say. Cleanup

I revisted this article after having some interest in it a few years ago, and was saddened to find that of the well-intended edits since that time, some were certainly not according to our own Manual of Style. We don't use our own Wikipedia on one article to be a "reference" for another Wikipedia article! We also don't use a link to a video alone in place of a reference, as that is also a copyright violation done that way. (We can and do use videos from You Tube that provide interviews, insight, but still must cite several items about the video.) We do not ever use any images that contain a copyright symbol on them, and we favor a clear face shot of the musician in their infobox in a biography over any other "artistic" shot. With that being said, I set about making some changes. E, to edit the Wikipedia, one either registers and gets a username, or an IP address appears when people sign their names. Not being a computer-educated person, I can't figure out why there is no name or IP address and date + time stamp on your messages. I would like to speak to you- please visit my talk page. Next: Outside organizations are strongly discouraged from editing these articles, because this is an encyclopedia, not a promotional vehicle, and the artists and their labels and promotional staff A&R people do not follow our #1 rule of NPOV (Neutral Point of View). MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, and the like are not considered reliable sources, although in some cases, they may be used to back up another reference, or in some unusual circumstances. 50% of what I do when not editing the Wikipedia involves working with a record label and professional photographers- you may check my userpage for a partial list of over 500 photos of musicians for these articles. I had two excellent pics which were removed and do belong here showing King's instrumental versatility, which I'll bring back. One last thing: if you ever consider adding a photo anywhere in the Wikipedia, even if the photo belongs to you or the artist, NO photo can be displayed that still uses a copyright, except when there is no other existing photo anywhere, and it's involved. Russian sevenths are....

Forgive me if you think I am being dense. I am not a slouch musically, on guitar or other instruments, but the term "Russian seventh" baffles me. I'm not alone because I believe that the article calls for an explanation of what it means. I haven't been able to so far, or I would edit it to include an explanation myself. Can somebody explain or, at least, give a source for the term. I suppose it could be another term to describe the same chord (?) that I think of when I think of some 7th chords, for example, dominant, major 7th, diminished, half-diminished, to name but four of many. 72.155.201.9 (talk) 03:05, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Will Clarify in the Article; sorry for confusion. Kaki has a technique of tuning her guitars and lap steel instruments as if they are semistrunnaya gitara (семиструнная гитара), or the russian version of a guitar (Russian Guitar). They call it "gypsy tuning." Its traditionally tuned to the Open G chord DGBDGBD. but she crams this into her acoustic guitar, only 6 strings. Technique is used for song Fortuna on her first album. There is no reference cited in which Kaki specifically states she is tuning her guitar in 'Russian sevenths', or that she was incorporating any of the other techniques mentioned in the statement. Open G is a common tuning used by many guitarists who experiment with such things (i.e. John Fahey, Leo Kotke, etc). Using the term 'Russian sevenths' is speculative. Furthermore I can't see how it makes much sense considering there is no interval of a 7th used in the actual tuning (unless the 'seventh' in the term is meant to refer to the seven string instrument the previous poster described). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.91.8.133 (talk) 12:23, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Some sorely needed updates

I noticed the page was lacking any updates past the release and tour for 'Junior' and also made no mention of the art show she put on in 2009 (definitely a notable event). I did my best to remedy this, however I must admit I'm still getting the hang of Wikipedia's standards. My edits consist of adding the "Guitar Art Show" section and the "Traveling Freak Guitar Show" header under the 'recording career, etc' section. I wanted to add at least an image of Kaki's 'playing with pink noise' guitar from the art show to the former section (and possibly an image of one of the other pieces on display at the show), however I apparently do not yet have clearance to do so.
