2007 Byron Beach Hotel Sale Value edit
I just did an edit to the "John Cornell" 'Wikipage'. This 'Wikipage' originally just stated that "Until its sale for a record price of $65 million in 2007, Cornell owned the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay (which he had built for $9 million in 1990).", however, this is a problem as numerous news sources, both then and now, are in contradiction with this estimate, even though a few new sources support it. This discrepancy in the quoted sale price of the Byron Beach Hotel arises from some articles quoting the original sale at $65 million, whilst the majority of other articles quote the sale price at $44 million. The evidentiary sources are split between these two figures, with none of them explaining, or even mentioning, the obvious contradiction in the two estimates for the original sale value. There was only one sale in 2007, making three sales on the property in total as of today (2021), if the $70 million (2017) and $100 million (2019) sales are included. If anyone else can come up with a plausible explanation to this problem, then let's here it. Otherwise, my edit (which is evidenced by a number of inline citations) just states "In 2007, it was sold by Cornell to a consortium of businessmen led by Max Twigg (a Melbourne businessman and racing car driver), with varying reports on the sale price, e.g. either $44 million or a record $65 million".
On another much smaller discrepancy, most sources say that John van Haandel had two 10-year lease renewal options, but one news sources stated he had only one 10-year lease renewal option. Therefore, the passage I wrote only refers to John van Haandel having two 10-year lease options.
Let's discuss here this problem, and whether it was the correct solution. SMargan (talk) 13:43, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
