Rower or coxswain? edit

I've had a look whether this Belgian was a rower or coxswain and the official 1924 Olympic report lists him as the coxswain for both the coxed four and the eight. Given that the document was written at the time I assume they got this detail right. Schwede66 05:00, 9 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hm, I've had a second look and this is more complicated. The official 1924 Olympic report lists Van Silfhout as the cox for the Belgian coxed four and as a rower for the Belgian eight (with Marcel Wauters as cox for that team). That sounds highly unlikely. If Van Silfhout was a cox then we have two coxes and seven rowers for the 1924 Belgian eight; that is of course not right. I've put a query on the Facebook KRC Gent; Van Silfhout was a member of that club. Schwede66 03:49, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Akadunzio, can I invite you to post here what it is that you know about van Silfhout? Schwede66 22:58, 22 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
The Belgian Rowing Federation gives for 1924 Maurice Delpancke as cox for the 2+, Georges Anthony for the 4+ and Sauvage for the 8+. Jean van Silfhout was a rower of about 80 kg. In newspapers I never found him as cox. In La Dernière Heure of 22 July Wauters was cox of a mixed Ghent 8 at a Brussels Regatta. In Sportwereld of 10 June 1924 Sauvage was cox of the mixed Ghent 8 and Wouters cox of the 8 of Sport Nautique Ghent in Oostende. Akadunzio (talk) 18:59, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Akadunzio, that's excellent. Thank you. Canadian Paul, have a look whether that's of interest for your purposes, too. Schwede66 19:29, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
