Proposal to Merge edit

Shouldn't he and Matthew be under one page as Nelson?Ohyeahmormons 01:47, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think I was the one that started both pages, but I kinda agree with you. Most of the stuff said here in Gunnar's page applies to both of them. Perhaps a merge is in order. Thief12 03:15, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gunnar Nelson weighed about 190 lbs. ,then on his own lost some weight. Then he got the chance to be on CFC3 and arrived on that show at 175 lbs. Since then after completing CFC3 ,he is at 145 LBS.,Which is about the weight he was in the early 1990's which ranged from 135 to 145 lbs. by the end of Nelson's "AFTER THE RAIN "Tour,he was at 120 lbs. He has been through alot in life !!! Gunnar is just a Human Being!!!

I clicked the link to the Nelson family website and Avast! gave a me a trojan warning. Just a heads up... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.115.27.178 (talk) 07:48, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't the article mention that he did 'Team Chaotix' for Sonic Heroes? [1] links to the WP article for the Sonic Heroes Soundtrack but finding a source for this info might be harder. MIVP - (Can I Help?) (Maybe a bit of tea for thought?) 20:29, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

12/3/18 user lucyconlon No they should NOT be merged into the band "Nelson" because Matthew and Gunnar, although twins have separate careers and projects such as Gunnar's project Scrap Metal and Matthews project Red37. Neither of those is anything to do with Nelson. Gunnar is a qualified Chef Matthew is not Matthew is a Corvette expert. Gunnar is not. They are 2 separate people and NELSON (Band) is not their only project - they also have Christmas With The Nelsons and The Rick Nelson Company as entrepreneurs neither of which are relevant to, not fall under Nelson band. Pleae remove this warning / suggestion asap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucyconlon (talkcontribs) 01:32, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

To disambiguate or not to disambiguate edit

I don't log in often, so I didn't see until now that when I made this page into a disambiguation page it was reverted almost right away by BD2412 because it hadn't been discussed.

Fair enough, so let's discuss it. I just moved it because I was looking the fighter up and found it odd that there wasn't a primary disambiguation page for two notable people like this.

This may be my filter bubble but if I search on Google/Bing for "Gunnar Nelson" the fighter almost exclusively turns up, and the singer barely at all.

I also looked through all the hourly pagecounts for May 20th, decompressed them all and did:

$ grep -hE '^en Gunnar_Nelson( |.*fighter)' pagecounts-20160520-*0000 | perl -MData::Dumper -nE 'print; my ($pvs) = m/(\d+)/; my $who = /fighter/ ? "fighter" : "singer"; $main::who{$who} += $pvs; END { say Dumper \%main::who }'

To sum up how many landings each page gets per day. Direct landings from e.g. Google will go to the page for the fighter if people are looking for that, but some looking for the fighter are of course going to go to the singer's page while there's no disambiguation page.

The numbers are:

$VAR1 = {
          'singer' => 130,
          'fighter' => 401
        };

I.e. 401 landings for the fighter, 130 for the singer.

I think that's evidence enough to make this a disambiguation page. I think it's pretty silly to have the less popular page as a click-through behind a non-disambiguation page. But both seem relatively popular, so let's disambiguate it.

Of course it might turn out that once we do that pretty much nobody would go to the singer's page because they were all looking for the fighter, in that case we might want to consider reversing the current situation, i.e. have no disambiguation page but make the singer's page a click-through.

  • What you want to do here is put this information into a move request using the template at Wikipedia:Requested moves. I'll go ahead and do that for you. Note that in a WP:TWODABS situation, it is often more helpful to identify a primary topic, and have the primary topic at the base page name. A disambiguation page is an extra navigational tool, and we don't need one if disambiguation can be accomplished in a headnote. bd2412 T 19:12, 21 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
