This page lists Evita as having shipped 2.5 million in the U.S, not forgetting though, the RIAA counts double album twice towards their certification, only when the album exceeds 100 minutes in length, Evita does not, it's 77 minutes, that means it's actually shipped 5 million through the U.S as of March 1999 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.195.33.197 (talk) 10:10, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

I have changed the opening from:

The old version seems to be a modification of the standard template "Foo is the nth studio album by Bar". In this case, category Category:Madonna (entertainer) soundtracks is heterogeneous...

...and whether the album is "by" Madonna is debatable. I'm sure all Madonna fans will include it in her oeuvre, but what proportion of trade publications, chart companies, awards certifications bodies, etc credit it to her, or to the composers, or under the general OST, is a question that needs further research. jnestorius^(talk) 23:59, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

The only source currently cited for the statement "it is considered a Madonna album since she sang majority [sic] of the songs" is a listicle which doesn't actually make that claim. jnestorius^(talk) 16:02, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

The listicle states clearly "The album, which featured Madonna on most of its tracks", and its credited to Madonna's top-10 albums. Might I also recommend you to see RIAA.com, Official Charts Company, BVMI, IFPI Swiss, IFPI Netherlands and countless others where it is credited to her? Its the same thing with The Bodyguard soundtrack which is credited to Whitney Houston by the RIAA and is considered in her chart number-ones and certification totals. —IB ^{[ Poke ]} 16:15, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Considered a Madonna album

I find the current claim that this is a Madonna album to be odd. What is said in the lead is not what is said in the source, and to interpret that as this soundtrack album being a Madonna album requires some original research. Certainly it contains Madonna, and she sings most of the songs, but the music and production were not under her control. On this album she is a hired hand. SilkTork (talk) 09:07, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

IndianBio has already explained it very clearly. The source credited the Evita soundtrack among one of "Madonna albums" which reached the top-ten of Billboard 200. Music and production were not under her control --> who says it should have had her as the producer that it could be considered hers? Celine Dion never produces her albums, so what? If you're talking about iTunes, they list it as "Various Artists". [2]. While for convenience I can see it as acceptable to casually identify this as a Madonna album and to have it group with Madonna albums, it is another step entirely for Wikipedia to be authoritivaely stating in Wikipedia voice that this is considered a Madonna album. That's why we have the Madonna slash various artists on the infobox and description. Some sources consider it as a "various artists" album, some others consider it a "Madonna album". Spotify also list it as a Madonna album. Bluesatellite (talk) 10:28, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

All Madonna albums in this period were released on her own label. This was not. It's a soundtrack album. The main creatives are Lloyd Webber and Rice. The assertion in the lead that this is considered a Madonna album because she sang most of the songs is misleading as the source doesn't say that. I have amended it. I think it is possible that it would be valid to class and group this as a Madonna album, but as it stands at the moment there is no evidence for that other than listings, and given that some listings group it under Madonna, while others group it under Various, and others under Lloyd Weber/Time Rice that we need to look more closely at the issue, and get a statement that is sourced and agreeable. An edit war is starting up here. The source does not say " it is considered a Madonna album since she sang the majority of the songs", it says: "Evita, starring Madonna, saw its soundtrack released on Nov. 12, 1996, in advance of the musical film’s premiere in limited theatrical release on Dec. 25. The album, which featured Madonna on most of its tracks, bowed at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, but then fell out of the top 20 in its second week, sliding all the way down to No. 28." The line "featured Madonna on most of its tracks" says that she sang most of the tracks, it does not say that because of that it is considered a Madonna album - indeed, the wording is more neutral and inclines toward saying that its a soundtrack album. I am adjusting the wording again in line with what the source says per WP:OR: "Wikipedia articles must not contain original research. The phrase "original research" (OR) is used on Wikipedia to refer to material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published sources exist. This includes any analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to reach or imply a conclusion not stated by the sources." Please do not simply revert again. Please address the concerns and put forward on the talkpage your rationale and evidence for this soundtrack album being considered a Madonna album. You may well be right.
