David Wu (entertainer) → David Wu (American actor) – He is known as an actor, not an entertainer. A Google search for entertainer david wu gives 143,000 results, while actor David Wu gives over 2 million. Taylor Trescott - ^{my talk} + _{my edits} 17:48, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

• Oppose. Subject is known as both an actor and a veejay - and even as an entertainer. Simple Google searches are not very reliable. Google books shows one result for "veejay David Wu", two results for "entertainer David Wu", and two unique results (the Bruce Lee results do not actually mention this subject) for "actor David Wu". No term predominates. Especially since he is WP:CRITERIA 2. Naturalness "actually called" an entertainer, the disambiguator is fine as is. Dohn joe (talk) 03:38, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Dohn Joe. Your support of the dab (entertainer) for various BLP titles has usually been based on a tiny minority or zero references. Therefore your claim here about whether a term "predominates" is surprising. On your search how many results do you get for "the entertainer David wu" and how many for "the actor David wu"? Obviously plain Google since he is barely mentioned in books and books when he was a MTV VJ obviously couldn't anticipate him growing up to be a well known actor. Try "Hong Kong actor David Wu" vs. "Hong Kong entertainer David Wu" since 2005. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:46, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

In ictu, please see WP:RS "reliable for the statement being made" "best such sources". We don't typically use low-quality fansites and pdfs for titling decisions. The actual reliable sources who discuss this subject do so in the ratio mentioned above. Dohn joe (talk) 05:09, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

No one is asking you to use low quality websites. You are simply being asked to provide some evidence for your claim that "entertainer David Wu" is the predominant description of this BLP. Google Books provides 4 books, 2 on films say actor, 2 on TV say entertainer. Nothing compared to 90,700 for "actor David Wu". In ictu oculi (talk) 07:46, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

You and the nom, apparently, are proposing using plain Google searches - i.e., "websites, blogs, and tweets" - to determine this article's title. WP, however, uses WP:RS "reliable for the statement being made" "best such sources" and WP:BLPSPS - "Never use self-published sources – including but not limited to books, zines, websites, blogs, and tweets – as sources of material about a living person." Is this serious? The purpose of searching is like-for-like, comparing plain Google for "actor david Wu" against "entertainer David Wu". You've found 2 sources from 2005 when he was known more as a TV presenter, describing his a TV show host. 2005 is 8 years ago. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:53, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Yes, it's serious. It's a bedrock principle of WP that we don't rely on flickr or twitter for our editorial decisions. BLPs in particular require heightened reliance on reliable sources. But you know what? I ran the plain Google searches anyhow. Here's what I got:

• "actor david wu": 10,800 results
• "entertainer david wu": 15,200 results

Even wading to the end, you get 135 results for "actor" and 87 results for "entertainer". So what's your evidence? What are we even doing here? Dohn joe (talk) 05:48, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

• @Taylor Trescott: Most of the Google hits do indeed refer to the ex-TV presenter, now actor. Problem is the other former actor David Wu (Hong Kong actor) = now David Wu (director). So this article should be David Wu (American actor). In ictu oculi (talk) 00:53, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

• David Wu (Hong Kong actor) → David Wu (filmmaker)

– The so-called American actor self-identifies as a Hong Kong entertainer on Chinese social media (see [1] in Chinese), not to mention the majority of his acting career has been in Hong Kong, see [2] (Probably the only American film he's ever done is Restless (1998 film) which was completely filmed in China.) Since he's clearly a HK resident, and the second guy a naturalized Canadian, the current disambiguators are imprecise; while we could title them David Wu (actor, born 1966) and David Wu (actor, born 1952), I can't find any reliable source that specifically states the second guy was born in 1952. The first guy is actually better known as a show host/VJ, whereas the second guy directed 7 films, wrote 8, edited 70 and composed 73 (see [3]). • Support As the nominator notes, formal legal nationality is a poor way to disambiguate these two people, and birth year wouldn't be that great even if we had better sources. David Wu (Hong Kong actor) is better known these days for directing & editing films than starring in them. 210.6.254.106 (talk) 03:35, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
• Oppose as proposed; "personality" is too PoV and unencyclopedic, like calling someone a "maven" or a "kingpin". Support alternative David Wu (actor). He's most notable as an actor. The fact that, like many actors, he's also worked as a TV presenter is irrelevant.
