a biography should have a date of birth (and death, but not applicable in this case)

His memoirs have most of the personal history section. Look at the bibliography in NEJ for the rest.Wolf2191 (talk) 23:34, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I toned down the end of "controversy." The previous version stated "This view was seen as being in direct contradiction to the 8th principle of Maimonides 13 principles of faith, which states "the Torah that we have today is the one that was dictated to Moses by God". Maimonides says that this applies to every single word in the Torah . As a result he was rejected by all orthodox rabbis, who declared that Halivini has firmly placed himself in the conservative-reform camp.[3]" Where does Maimonides state that the 8th principle applies to every single word in the Torah? A source needs to be cited for that. Also, it is not necessarily a direct contradiction because Maimonides himself never wrote the line about "all of the Torah that we have now..." That version is found in the back of the siddur (Jewish prayer book), but was not written by Maimonides himself. The original version in Maimonides' Commentary to the Mishna does not have the word "ata" (now). In any case, many rabbis disagree with Maimonides, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_principles_of_faith#Maimonides.27_13_principles_of_faith. Also, not all Orthodox rabbis rejected him (that is a sweeping generalization that obviously cannot be supported). Finally, it should be noted that the source, Yated Neeman, is an Ultra-Orthodox, right wing source and does not speak for all of Orthodox Judaism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielatwood1 (talkcontribs) 15:52, 16 December 2013 (UTC) Danielatwood1 (talk) 15:56, 16 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
