Herbie vs. Christine?

There's a slight allusion to that question in Rosemary Tillman's short story "Mom and Pop Business," in which the narrator's daughter, about to get her first car (a VW bug) and considering what to name it, says that she wants to give it male name so that it will be a boy. She goes on to say that as a child she thought that a baby's sex was determined by the name the parents gave it, and if hers had named her younger sibling Kristen instead of Kevin, he would have been a girl. Someone says "Christine is seen as the polar opposite to Herbie The Love Bug, often prompting online discussions between fans of the two cars as to who would win in a race... or a fight." I'd add a reference tag if it weren't so preposterous - where are these online discussions? What's there to discuss? Differences?

I was wondering if someone could note the differences between the book and the film, most notably the fact that in the film 'Christine' is 'evil' whilst rolling down the production line (crushing quality control guys hand, trapping the black worker inside and suffocating him), whereas in the book 'Christine' herself isn't evil but it is the spirit of the former owner possessing Arnie through the medium of them both owning her... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.3.206.254 (talk) 22:19, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Slight mistake in "differences" section

"In the book, Buddy Repperton's car was a Plymouth Duster. In the film, his car is a 1967 Chevy Camaro."

In the book, Repperton drives a Camaro, just like his film counterpart. It's Dennis who owns the Duster in the book, although in the movie Dennis drives a Dodge Charger. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Clarke Marek (talk • contribs) 04:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Plot classifications

As a horror movie this film shares many scenes and techniques with other. The synopsis of the article should emphasize the special logics of this film with regards to the common classifications, and the info in the section "differences" ought to focus on these important questions:

• How much "witchcraft" are we supposed to accept?
• Or: How much detective work would it take to reveal the magic powers of the car? (as a consequence of the first question - if it is witchcraft this would become clear to eyewitnesses, but nobody would believe them!)
• Is Arnie driving the car? Or, rephrased: how much is he wanting this to happen.
• How much in love is Arnie with Leigh before/after?
• Is the car evil?

Practical jokes

According to Carpenter and Gordon on the commentary, there were many jokes on set. The crew was warned about a street gang that was stalking them. Also Alexandra's twin sister stood in for her in a take of a scene. --TMC1221 (talk) 17:31, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

1957/1958?

the plot starts off by saying the car is a 1958 model, straight out the production plant... around the middle of the plot, it says the car restores herself just like she was when she came off the production line in 1957. shouldn't that be 1958? not entirely sure how car production works in the USA, but surely it doesn't work like that?! can someone confirm?? 77.97.110.57 (talk) 03:08, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Motor vehicles go into production and go on sale in the latter part of the year before their nominal year model designation. Typically, a new model year of a car becomes available for sale at the dealership around the autumn of the year before the nominal year of that model. So a 1958 car would start production on the assembly line around the summer or autumn of 1957. Captain Quirk (talk) 05:39, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Proposed removal of redundant publisher information

A number of citations in this article unnecessarily include the publisher for periodicals and websites that have their own Wikipedia article. This information has no value to anyone wanting to check or track down references. For example, publisher=Washington Post Company for references to The Washington Post, or publisher=IMDB for references to Box Office Mojo, only make the article longer - significantly longer when repeated many times - without adding anything useful. Therefore I plan to upgrade the article's citations to remove all such redundant publisher info, bringing them into line with the recommended use of the cite template (see Template:Citation#Publisher). Caption incorrect

Currently the caption to the photo reads: A red-and-white 1958 Plymouth Belvedere, In 1958 the Furys were only in eggshell white and gold trim being a common misconception in the film Christine. It should read "A red-and-white 1958 Plymouth Belvedere. In 1958 the Furys were supplied new only in eggshell white and gold trim." It is made very clear in the book that the red-and-white paint is a custom job of the owner. There is never any "misconception" in the book about the standard the paint of that model.
