annual production edit

4,000 tons of dried pasta per annum seems a very low figure if it includes 40% consumption in Italy and 25% in US. TheOneOnTheLeft (talk) 08:08, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

As far as I can tell, the two US plants were producing 150000 tons/yr in 2007 (the new one producing 50000, half that of the first one) (from the Economist article here) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.66.164.84 (talk) 22:08, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Removed the assertion. If Barilla sent all of its product to the US, which contributed $457m in a year to its revenue, then the cost of that pasta to the wholesaler would be over $50/lb. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444900304577579071446652942.html VmZH88AZQnCjhT40 (talk) 19:19, 26 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Gay advert row edit

Just to say that this is now widely reported: see BBC News, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, and The Independent for instance. Whatever one thinks of Guido Barilla's statement, it's caused a stir which is clearly going to take a while to calm down and will certainly have some impact on the brand's profile. This is no 'flash in the pan' story. Alfietucker (talk) 22:00, 26 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

One more source that is missed in the article: http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/09/26/italy-gay-pasta-idUSL5N0HM2O120130926 --GB1974 (talk) 14:56, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure we need to cite every possible source, but the Reuters story is worth bearing in mind if any other editors think the currently cited sources are inadequate. Alfietucker (talk) 17:12, 28 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I mantain that this row is not relevant enough to be included in an encyclopedia - Wiki is neither Facebook nor a newspaper and should not be treated as a lobbying tool. At the very least it should mention the organisations that supported him, as reported by the newspaper Corriere della Sera:

"Solidarity and praises, instead, from Moige (Italian movement of parents) and from Pdl MP Eugenia Roccella. Paola Ferrari De Benedetti, chairman of the National watch on bullyism and doping, highlights that there is no point in complaining: "Today even simply stating that one believes only in the traditional family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman, is considered by someone to be an example of homophobia"."Immanuel797979 (talk) 19:35, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've now put in mention of both MOIGE and Eugenia Roccella with citations. Alfietucker (talk) 17:30, 28 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

This editing dispute appears to have revived itself. I've reviewed the content and sources. While I generally would consider this degree of detail on the controversy to be off-topic, it seems to have been a major notable event for this organization (though certainly would not warrant it's own article). It could easily be argued, however, that we're going into too much detail. For example, perhaps the extended quotes aren't needed when we could accurately paraphrase.

Let's refrain from continuing to edit war until a renewed consensus has been met. I've restored the article to the state it was nearly 9 months ago when semi-protection was last added. — MusikAnimal talk 00:46, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'd agree that the controversy should be addressed, as it was a major news story and for many readers the only time they've heard of the company. I also agree that it would be more appropriate if shortened somewhat. GCL (talk) 19:25, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Barilla and Oerlikon-Buhrle (the company that manufactures arms) edit

Insert contribution

The Barilla is 49% owned by the Oerlikon-Buhrle Swiss company that produces weapons, including depleted uranium. --37.183.140.178 (talk) 15:15, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

source? 24.8.145.82 (talk) 15:29, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Gratian Anda who is on the board of directors is the son of Hortense Anda-Bührle who came from Oerlikon-Bührle money. I'm not sure if Anda is still connected to OC Oerlikon which is the successor to Oerlikon-Bührle. Either way Oerlikon sold its weapons division to Rheinmetall. (I'm not the original dude, my only research and source are the linked wikipedia articles, to be honest.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.232.5.216 (talk) 11:42, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

LGBT activism edit

It is totally absurd that more than 50% of the article is about this controversy that probably nobody remembers by now. As a matter of fact these declarations should be place on Guido Barilla article and not here. Wikipedia:Recentism should apply here. Triplecaña (talk) 16:11, 23 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I agree with this. The article is seriously lacking in comparison with the articles on the Deutsch, French, and Italian wiki pages. I propose that the section be moved to the article you mentioned. 172.56.39.89 (talk) 00:01, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

"Deceives" edit

@85.48.184.32: and other IPs in 85.48.184.0/23 have been adding the sentence "Barilla deceives customers into thinking the pasta is made in Italy" based on an ongoing lawsuit. There are several problems with this: first it is not phrased neutrally; we cannot assert that the company "deceives" customers based on this; second, there is no source that says the company deceives customers, this is just what the plaintiffs in an ongoing lawsuit asserts, and third, even if the suit were upheld, this is WP:UNDUE for the lead and should be moved to the body. But for now, I think it should be removed. CodeTalker (talk) 19:39, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
