The 2023 season was Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas's 119th season in existence and the club's second consecutive season in the top flight of Brazilian football. In addition to the domestic league, Botafogo participated in this season's edition of the Campeonato Carioca, Copa do Brasil and Copa Sudamericana.

On 4 January, the team canceled its scheduled pre-season tour in Florida, United States due to the regulations of the Rio de Janeiro State Federation (FERJ) regarding the necessity of the participation of key players in the Campeonato Carioca.[3] [4]
