I am note sure if you are following the deletion request discussion for Made in Romania (products), but I would like to invite those interested to a rewrite effort following Made in Germany, Made in China, Made in USA and other similar examples. Updating the History of Abortion, Abortion in Romania pages

Hello! I am interested in updating the History of Abortion and Abortion in Romania pages, which cover a very important topic dealing with women's reproductive health in Romania. For being the main pages about the history of abortion, both in Romania and internationally, these pages are very undeveloped: the former covers the medical aspect of abortion and the way society's views changed on the subject over the years, but it has little to nothing written about the effect of reproduction legislation on populations and focuses more on distant history than it does on more recent events. The latter has some current statistics, but has very little in regards to the reproductive policy under Ceauşescu's rule.

I intend to focus on the section on abortion law on the History of Abortion and hope to include more historical information on past legislation, as it is not only not very well organized, but needs to be expanded upon. Neither page goes into detail as to why these laws were implemented, how these laws affected a population, or why they may have been revoked, and I wish to remedy that. I also plan to highlight Romania's history, as well as China and India's, on this page, and will be linking the Abortion in Romania page to it, too. The Abortion in Romania page's section on the abortion during the communist regime will be more fleshed out as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me in this endeavor? I would appreciate your feedback and your help, as I would like to represent the country's past policies fairly and accurately. Thank you! Scb3 (talk) 05:34, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Finding old offline sources

In 1936, Adolf Ongar was the Dean of the Bar Association in Timisoara; on March 3rd of that year, he was arrested due to allegations that he had committed war crimes during the First World War.

(I have no idea whether the allegations had any merit; the Jewish Telegraphic Agency noted that Dr Ongar was Jewish and that the allegations had been made by the "anti-Semitic Lawyers' Union".)

I'm pretty sure that Dr Ongar meets notability criteria; however, the JTA's archive is the only mention I can find of him online (although future searches will no doubt find this page as well). Would anyone have access to offline sources which might discuss or mention the case of Dr Ongar (was there a trial; if so, was he convicted, etc)? I quite realize that there was considerable turmoil in Romania in the intervening 76 years, but it's worth a shot. DS (talk) 14:43, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Use of S-comma T-comma D-comma

Hi, this is about Talk:Judeţ. Everyone probably knows that S-comma T-comma D-comma show up on many if not most computers outside Romania as "JudeT". This issue has just - inevitably - been raised on Talk:Nicolae Ceaușescu, where the page title uses an S-comma, but the text uses the S-cedilla. I see that the S-cedilla is also used for the Ceauşescu (surname) page, and all the ones listed on it, so I guess this would be a rather large job to correct, and not one as a non-Romanian speaker I would even like to attempt! Eustaţiu Stoenescu

Hi, I have created a stub article for the artist Eustaţiu Stoenescu, as I saw enough to see that he was clearly notable, although the huge majority of reliable sources online are in Romanian which I can't read, and online translators aren't really doing a great job. I have linked to a couple of the best-looking articles, there were plenty more interesting looking sources on Google. The English language material I found was mainly blogs (so not really reliable sources) or very tiny little snippet views of printed books. If someone who can read Romanian and has an interest in Romanian art history could take a look and see if they can expand the article further using the Romanian language sources, that would be great, I am happy to return the favour in any way I may be able to. Dacian fortress of X

I've seen an inflation of one-line articles on "Dacian fortresses" being created mainly by Saturnian (talk · contribs): Dacian fortress of Beidaud, Dacian fortress of Beștepe, Dacian fortress of Telița just to name a few. There are several problems with such articles: on one hand, these settlement where by no mean fortresses, just some more or less fortified settlements [1], [2], [3]; on the other hand, these fortified settlement are classified as Iron Age by the National Archaeological Record (Hallstatt or La Tene, according to the traditional periodisation in Romanian historiography), as current research on such sites does not allow a clear ethnic identification (considering that identification --Codrin.B (talk) 12:11, 15 February 2013 (UTC)of ancient ethnic character through material remains is becoming increasingly obsolete in modern archaeology, such identification may never be established). Finally, and most importantly, the current state of research allows at best a paragraph to be written for most of these "fortresses", thus making the articles perennial stubs. The little info could easily be presented in the article about the commune (most communes are one-liners nowadays, but they have a better chance of being expanded). Giving the inaccuracy of the current titles and the lack of perspectives for expansion, I'm inclined to just redirect and merge these article into the articles about the communes. This is also preferable to using a more accurate, but very long title ("Iron Age fortified settlement of X"). Any thoughts? Anonimu (talk) 01:27, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

If they can't really be identified with Dacians in any way using the material culture, matching the ancient writings etc., I would agree that it would be more accurate to title them "Iron Age settlement of X." But what would we do with settlements which span Bronze Age and Iron Age let's say? I see the point of merging with the communes, but I see a number of disadvantage: 1. It would be hard to categorize them using categories like "Iron Age settlements" for example; 2. Stubs (even though they might seem like perennial - let's be more positive) still have the purpose of inviting contributors; 3. More importantly, these specific articles are used for nice Google Maps/Google Earth meshups (see [4]).; 4. These individual articles are referenced by lists of monuments and archeological sites. You know my philosophy. Instead of spending the time to merge or delete, I would rather add some content to some of these articles. Can somebody open sockpuppet investigation about accounts Koertefa and Csendesmark? I think there is enough evidence for sockpuppetry. Account Csendesmark was not active for whole month since 15 December 2012 and now appear only to assist account Koertefa in two articles: Banat of Temeswar and Hungary. In 13 January 2013 in article Banat of Temeswar User:Csendesmark reverted article to version of User:Koertefa and in Hungary both accounts appeared to edit in same time (about 22:14 - 22:27 in 12 January 2013‎). A little grammatical sense needed

I have no connection to Romania, but I am a linguist (language researcher), and in Manele#Etymology and usage I found the following sentence:

• The Romanian present participle [of "manea"] is manelizat that always has a pejorative connotation, giving a sense of "rough".

This is nonsense: nouns don't have participles. I've written my comments in detail at Talk:Manele#Present participle?. Will someone who knows Romanian and understands grammar please fix that? You can put any questions for me on my talk page. Even better, put them in that section of Talk:Manele and Template:Ping me. Thanks.

The problem is that Tradiții... presents details, descriptions of the Romanian traditions. The most important holidays, events of human being etc. Everything is very detailed and it doesn't match (Not at all) with general descriptions from Culture.... My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. Political parties

I've just started creating articles on some historical political parties in Romania, and was wondering if people could help with some queries? With regards to the Democratic Nationalist Party (Romania), Google translate suggests this source mentions something about integration into the People's Party or possibly the Romanian National Party, but I have no idea what exactly it says. Arcul de Triumf (1878, 1922 and 1936)

Would anyone here be able to help answer a question related to the Arcul de Triumf? Over on Commons, there is a category and a page on this arch. The current structure was inaugurated in 1936. There was a temporary structure in 1878 and another temporary structure in 1922. I suspect that this image shows the 1922 temporary arch, and that this image shows the 1878 structure (the two structures depicted look different). On Commons, the page says that they are both the 1878 structure, but I think this is incorrect. I'm posting here to get some help to make sure this is all correctly sorted out. I think I have found a picture of the 1922 structure. It is an image in use on the Romanian Wikipedia's article ro:Arcul de Triumf din București, and uploaded over there (i.e. not on Commons): [6]. The Franz Mandy photograph must be the 1878 structure, as Mardy died in 1910. Am now trying to work out the best way to get a copy of that image uploaded to Commons or en-Wikipedia... The singer Celia

I learned that there is a Romanian singer named Celia. As of 2015 Her article on the Romanian Wikipedia is now a "good article" but I do not know if the sources shown here count as "reliable sources" for Wikipedia. If they do, we can revisit establishing her article.

See the 2011 AFD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Celia (singer) - It does mention that people saw many sources cited in the 2011 Wikipedia article for Celia but they weren't reliable.

Is anyone familiar with Romanian newspapers and magazines? Which ones are considered "reliable"? If/when I get this list I can do a site search to see if there are articles about Celia. All it takes is two, and the topic should meet WP:GNG WhisperToMe (talk) 16:50, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Should Kingdom of Hungary be a child category of History of Romania?

With User:Redbluelighting I've had a discussion here among others about the question whether Category:Kingdom of Hungary should be a child category of Category:History of Romania (and more generally whether Kingdom of Hungary should be a child category of the history of all of Hungary's surrounding countries). The discussion hasn't led to consensus. Could you please share your opinion on this issue? 07:44, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Iron Guard

The following was recently removed (at my suggestion) from the article on the Iron Guard, the radically antisemitic political party in Romania in the 1930s until its suppression in 1941:

The internal situation was favouring the Jews, as they were in direct charge of Romanian press, politics and public life. As the First World War ended, the Jews turned to pro-communism, an attitude strongly condemned by the population, as the Soviet Union was growing more and more aggressive.

I don't have time at present to work on the article, but given that that statement had stood there for quite a while it looks to me like the article could use some serious attention. It won't surprise me if whoever added that also may have removed some worthwhile content. The claim of Jewish cultural domination read like something out of the Iron Guard's own propaganda and the claim of Jewish support for the Soviet Union read like a justification of the Iași pogrom. Probably further discussion should be at Talk:Iron Guard, I just wanted to raise a flag here and call for some attention to the article. - Jmabel | Talk 04:49, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Gelou

Eurocentral, has been for months attempting to write the following sentences in the article about Gelou: " The 19th-century French historian, Edouard Sayous, also mentioned Gelou and his Vlach land." or "French Edouard Sayous wrote a History of Hungary where affirmed that Gelou land was a Vlach land." I would like to understand Eurocentral, but he has been making quite strange declarations (all can be read on the relevant article's Talk page under several subtitles). Why is this 19th-century French historian is so important? Did he write a well-known monography of Gelou? Or was he the last non-Romanian scholar who believed that Gelou had been a real person? Eugen Lozovan

Eurocentral, claims that the Romanian linquist Eugen Lozovan writes that river names of Romanian origin constitute the oldest layer of toponymy in Transylvania, but Eurocentral has not listed any of those river names. Did Lozovan write that statement or it is only a new example of Eurocentral's creative work? If Lozovan did write that statements, did he mention any river and what rivers? Notability of Leonard Oprea

I'm reasonably sure the article creator was the subject or someone closely associated with him, but nevertheless, Oprea is a Romanian author, who seems to be notable more for being a dissident in the 1980s than he is for writing (not that there's much on that). However, that notability is traced to only one Romanian critic, Tudorel Urian, and all of the sources are also in Romanian. There is zero substantial coverage of him in English. I can't source any of the awards the article claims he won in Romania (nor would I know if they were major if I could). All his books in English are published through XLibris or AuthorHouse (and therefore vanity press), so they can't be used to establish notability even if they were reviewed (which they haven't been). He has absolutely zero coverage in English. All of the other Romanian sources either give personal info (which doesn't establish notability in and of itself) or focus on one work of Oprea's, Radiografia clipei. So I'm not really seeing enough to say for certain whether he is or isn't, but I can't speak to depth of coverage in Romanian. Could someone help out? MSJapan (talk) 16:57, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Antioh Cantemir and "Antiochus Kantemir"

actually have exactly the same name. "Antiochus Kantemir", with its Latinate personal name and Russified surname, is also almost certainly wrong. China's blocking ngram and Google Scholar (use those, not vanilla Google, since its "hit count" is essentially an asspull) but could someone look into what the Russian prince's actual COMMON ENGLISH name is and report back here? Britannica (1878) has "Antiochus Cantemir" and (1911) "Antioch Cantemir", which means that he and his uncle should both be at "Antioch Cantemir" with some form of dab between them. — LlywelynII 01:44, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

Dahn, drew my attention to the fact that leading Romanian historians, such as Ioan-Aurel Pop, Ioan Bolovan, regularly published together with Larry L. Watts (who allegedly denies Holocaust) and Kurt W. Treptow (who is said to have committed serious crimes). If this is the case, I think Romanian wikipedians could assist our community to provide a list of unreliable Romanian historians. Transylvanian peasant revolt

Rgvis, has been attempting to add quite strange pieces of information in the article about the Transylvanian peasant revolt.

First, he wants to state, based on a books published in 1934, that the Vlachs "were still on a footing of equality" with the Hungarians, Saxons and Székelys in the late 13th century. However, a Vlach knez was not "on a footing of equality" either with a Hungarian nobleman or with a Hungarian peasant. (Because a Hungarian nobleman was exempted of the taxes, but Vlach knezes had to pay special taxes. On the other hand, Hungarian peasants had to pay, for instance, the tithe, while Vlach knezes were mostly exempt of this tax). Neither was a Saxon burgher "on a footing of equality" with a Hungarian nobleman or with a Vlach or Székely peasant. How could we state that Vlachs were "on a footing of equality" with Hungarians, or Hungarians with Székelys, etc., if an individual's legal position was independent of his/her nationality?

Secondly, Rgvis wants to state, based on a terciary source, that the Orthodox Vlach peasants were extremly suppressed and regarded almost as slaves in the Catholic Kingdom of Hungary. However, a Catholic peasant always had to pay the 10% tithe, while an Orthodox peasant was to pay this irksome tax only after he/she settled on a land abandoned by a Catholic peasant. Moreover, a Vlach commoner paid only a 2% tax on his/her most common animals (sheep), while a Catholic peasant paid a 10% tax on his/her livestock. If a Catholic peasant was always taxed at 20%, while an Orthodox peasant was taxed at 2-12%, how could we state that Vlachs were regarded slaves?

I came across it which reviewing a list of old articles, and while I cannot read Romanian to any great extent it didn't seem to me that the very few book sources I could find (all from the 19th century) contained the information in the article.
